PS Elements 12 Freezing

I had PS Elements installed on my previous Macbook with no issues. I recently switched to another Macbook. Now, anytime I try to edit a photo, Elements freezes. Any ideas on the issue?

After updating the OS it’s also best to trash the prefs.
Quit PSE12 if its running.
Launch Finder and find the user Library by clicking the Go menu whilst holding down the Optn (alt) key (n.b. the library is hidden until you press the optn key) and inside the Library folder select the preferences folder. Then trash the following files:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 settings

  • Photoshop Elements freezing on os x yosemite

I have updated to os x yosemite and now photoshop element freezes. How can I fix this?

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • Premiere Elements freezing and closing after adding a Menu.

I have been making movies with Premiere Elements for awhile now.  Ever since I started, I have had the same problem.  It would hang, and eventually close on me.  I then got the new version, PE8 a while back.  Unfortunately, I still had the same problem.
I made an entire video having trouble with the freezing problem.  But I put up with it and saved every few minutes.  Now I get to the end and made the Menu pages.  When I almost finished it, it closes on me.  I keep trying to go back into it, with absolutely NO success!  I have been dealing with this for a long time, so I am well aware of needing to turning off the internet and virus software with the realtime scanning.  I also have been manually closing everything I can in my startup menu.
Every so often I restart to see if that helps, but no help.  So, I have been looking at the conversations here for a while recently and have tried what I think is everything.  I made sure I had the updated version of Elements 8.  I updated everything, all the important and optional updates.  Made sure my graphics card was up to date.  I don't use QuickTime, but I updated it anyway.  I ran Disc Cleanup and Defrag.  I did the MsConfig disabling bonjour, apple mobile, ITunes, Reader.  I had it boot without GUI.  I even disabled the Windows Indexing feature.
Even after all that, every time I open PE8, I gives me the warning message that it is running low on memory!  I don't know what else to do.  Please help.
Now I know you all want to know what the details of my system are, so here it is.
    Dell XPS 420
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 2
Intel Core Quad CPU Q9450 2.66 GHz

    207 Free disc space
My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series with the driver version 8.850.0.0  Dated 4/19/2011.
I believe that is all that you need.  If I forgot anything, please let me know.
    Thanks for your help,  Sharon

Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for video editing

  • Photoshop Elements Freezing on Attempt to Save to NAS

    Hi,
I've just installed Photoshop Elements 11 on a Win 8 system and now whenever I try and save an edited JPEG back to the NAS, photoshop freezes, task status is not responding and it leaves thousands of ~psxxx.tmp files on the NAS.  Only way I can get out is using the Task Manager to kill it  .
Been using Elements 9 up till recently without any problems so am now completely mystified?
I can save fine to a local hard disk however that really is not what I want to do and don't see what the issue is with the NAS - its a QNAP and solid as a rock and have been using it for ages.

  • Photoshop Elements freezes during launch

I have posted this before, and will do so again. I am using Photoshop Elements 13.x with a Mac OS X Yosemite installation. The program freezes during startup. If I follow the advice found HERE:
A Reminder for Mac Folks upgrading to Yosemite | Barbara's Sort-of-Tech Blog
And then restart my computer, the program will load and function properly a few times. It might be once, twice... or five times. But soon enough I have to repeat the procedure. It's unacceptable and if Adobe can't offer support or a solution I would like to know how to obtain a refund.

Hello? Is there anybody out there?

  • Photoshop Elements freezing new iMac Alum 20"

I know a lot of people have noticed freezing with Leopard in general but we have tied it to Photoshop Elements.
    New Alum 20" iMac.
After initial install of Leopard we experienced no issues with freezing. The computer was running great.
Then we installed PhotoShop Elements (latest version bought < 1 month ago) and then the computer wouldn't last 20min without freezing. Removed Photoshop and reinstalled. Still Freezing. Stripped out Photoshop and computer is now running fine for the last 24hr.
Anyone experience this? We need to get photoshop back on the system but I'm not willing to risk continuous freezing. Anyway to trouble shoot this further. I'm curious if its the Adobe Bridge application, the update utility or PS itself. We also noticed a drop in performance of IPhoto once we installed PS which returned after PS was removed.
I'm defining freezing as No keyboard input, the mouse is responsive and moves but unable to click on any buttons. The only way to recover is to force the computer to shutdown with the power button.
Mainly looking for any troubleshooting techniques for handling such a problem.
    Thanks Mark

PS runs fine on my Mac under Leopard, but I've yet to launch Bridge since the update.... Have you used Bridge yet? I think it isn't compatible with Leopard, but PS is completely Leopard compatible........

  • I have been using Elements 12 on my IMAC however since updating to Yosemite 10.10.1 my elements freezes.

So I have elements 11 on my computer also but cannot uninstall it although I have downloaded Adobe App Mge * Creative cloud cleaner tool as instructed.  The error message comes up to install the latter.. I am at a loss.  I have Lightroom as well but have not used it a lot.

Yes the track pad is compatible with PSE 11 and 12 in Yosemite if you either:
    1. Update to 10.10.1
    or
    2. Install the whitewindow plugin, as directed here, but it's best just to update OS X.

  • Premier Elements freezing

Ok...I don't want to waste anyone's time here so I'm going to outline the entire sordid story of what I've been through with PE8.
Several months ago, PE4, came pre-installed from Dell, began to get choppy and slow when working on piecing together a video.  It still worked but I could see that something had happened that prevented the smooth operation I had become used to.
In the interim I got a new camera that was of digital format mp4.  I started using it and downloading the clips straight from the hard drive of the camera to my computer instead of the firewire approach I had been using.
The problem with PE4 got worse.  Thinking there was a compatibility issue with the format, which is supported, I decided to get PE8.  I downloaded it through mozillla, mistake #1, and tried to use the software...totally unusable.  Everything froze..I couldn't get to first base on any project.  Thinking I didn't get a clean install, I uninstall it.
After that, called Adobe...ummm yeah, not so much!
They sent me disks as they couldn't provide me with a link they had just provided me with...so pissed now from being on hold for almost 2 hours total and achieving NO GOAL....
Being that I had nothing else to do but try to figure it out, I went to troubleshooting and have accomplished most of the 24 or so tasks there..all drivers are updated, QT is updated, I turned off a lot of the startup programs and then uninstalled the trial version that I had downloaded and used the serial number they provided to try and get something to work and uploaded from the disk....NOW it's starting to work like it should BUT..I'm still getting the freezing..
I don't want to call Adobe unless I have to..I just don't...does anyone have any tips or tricks I might have overlooked to get this working seamlessly like I know it can?
Thanks much in advance for any help.

Unfortunately, you've posted to the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, where your post is not likely to be seen by most forum subscribers.
First, (download and installation problems aside) your computer could well be too underpowered to effectively run PrE 8, and also edit MP4 material. Please list the complete specs of your computer.
Next, please list the full specs. of your chosen Project Preset and also the specs. of your MP4 footage.
In the meantime, this troubleshooting ARTICLE might be useful. It's written for PrPro, but there are strong similarities in the two programs.

  • Premiere elements freeze

When I use more then 10 minutes of video (MP4 format, 640*480 60bps),
    the software freezes.
My PC configuration seems to meet the requirements,
    AMD 64 X2 4200+ 2.21 GHz, internal memory of 2 GB.
    Regards,
    Erik

Run Task Manager while editing and watch the total memory. In my experience running PE on XP Pro (32 bit), if the total memory figure gets to about 1.4GB for any reason (and editing lots of MP4s will do it), PE can either crash or freeze or get very flakey. You can even get into a situation where it will let you add clips and then the resulting project will crash PE. If you or PE saved just before it crashed, you may find that you can no longer open the project without PE crashing right away.
I have found that if I have another program open in the background, switching focus to it and then back to PE can often free up memory for a while.
Note that this is independant of the amount of physical RAM you have in the system. A 32 bit OS hands out 4GB of virtual RAM per application and that is split 50/50 between the application and system tasks so PE only gets 2GB to play with, no matter what.
I am experimenting with Windows 7 (64 bit) and things are smoother but near as I can tell, PE runs in 32 bit mode on a 64 bit OS so it can't take advantage of the additional memory space the OS can make available. I think Windows 7 gives it 3GB instead of 2GB though. Too bad, this is the one application I own that could REALLY use more memory (and I thought that a couple GB would be WAY more than I would ever need for any application). Oh, and I'm liking Windows 7.......

  • Premiere Element Freezes When Tried to Burn DVD

My computer meets and exceeds the requirements for Premiere Element 4. It also has about 50 GB of free disk space. I put together a file (about 30 minutes) consisting of stills and video clips, sound tracks, effects, and transition. When I tried to burn a DVD the first time, the program froze at the first instance of "burn" after completion of encoding and compiling. I removed Premiere Element and then reloaded it. I was able to burn a DVD. When I tried to burn again after making a minor change (to some text on still images), I then experienced the same problem even though with the same remove/reload routine.
From your website, I tried to sort out if the problem was due to my project or my computer system. I could create a DVD folder of a simple file but not a folder for my project. So it seemed that my project file was the problem. I then took the suggested approach, i.e. to make DVD folders of segments of my project and they all worked.
Finally, I was able to export my project to my hard disk as an AVI file and then load the file as a new project. Then burning a DVD was uneventful. The burned DVD showed that the file was about 1.6 GB in length.
Would appreciate your suggestions on how to identify the glitch that prevented me from burning a DVD in the straightforward manner. I might add that I had burned DVDs of projects of almost identical composition and length and had experienced no such problem.

From your description, it sounds like either the photos were larger than 1000x750 pixels in size and/or that you needed to clear your Media Cache (in Premiere Elements Edit/Preferences).

I really need help fixing this ASAP!!Please help!

Photoshop Elements doesn't respond when you use editing tools in Mac OS X 10.10

  • I am using Photoshop Elements 12 and when I am importing pictures the system freezes and needs to be forced quit. When I restart it it continues to bring the pictures in eventually. What is the solution to this?

I am using MAC os version of elements 12 with OS 10.9.4 (the latest). When I am importing pictures from a card elements freezes consistently and needs to be voce closed. When I then restart elements it continues to bring the pictures in but this is very tedious and I need to get the matter resolved,

I would do another rename to disable or just delete all the OldFilm.AEX and OldFilm.AEXOLD in that NewBlue Folder.
If you do, please let me know if that OldFilm.AEX regenerates itself the next time you open Premiere Elements 13.
Here is the strange story...at least from my Premiere Elements 13 Windows perspective...never had the No Disc error issue
Here are some details to sort through trying to figure out why you have 2 OldFilm.AEX file in the NewBlue Folder.
    1. The original OldFilm.AEX file of Premiere Elements 13 has the date of 9/4/2014 (just before the version was released on 9/24/2014).
After the 13.1 update is done (whenever date), that OldFilm.AEX file has the date of 1/31/2015. I first saw notification of the 13.1 Update
    release early in February 2015.
    2. Now in Premiere Elements 13.1, if I take my OldFilm.AEX (date 1/31/2015) and disable it by renaming it to OldFilm.AEXOLD, close out of there, and reopen
the program, the OldFilm.AEX is not seen to regenerate. The OldFilm.AEXOLD remains there as its lone self.
    3. So, I am thinking that your OldFilm.AEXOLD in the screenshoot is "original equipment" that you disabled to get rid of No disc error.
Why the OldFilm.AEX is there also is not clear, but the dating on it suggests that it came along with the 13.1 Update.
Bottom line: let us try the deletion or disabling one more time and see what happens.
Looking forward to further reports on your findings, as your time permits.
    Thanks.
    ATR
