PS Elements 12 very slow, very very slow!

Hi, I started using Ps elements 12 to try it out. My past experience with elements is flawless speed but with 12 for example using the smudge tool can sometimes take up to 30+ seconds to complete. I can actually watch the progress are the picture as it transitions. Is there a setting that I cant find or something causing this to happen?
Pc specs
Win 7 ultimate
3.8ghz i7 haswell
16gb 1666ghz ram
gtx 770 2gb card
Ps elements and projects I'm working on are installed on a SSD.
So with those specs it should run smooth.
Help please!

My guess, if you aren't waiting for the organizer to generate thumbnails, would be the auto analyzer. It's not as easy to kill in PSE 12. Go into task manager and stop it there and see if it makes a difference.

  • Elements 10 organizer is very slow. Exif-file modification.

    Slow Elements organizer
Problem 1: My elements organiser is slow! Very very slow!???
Problem two:  Why Elements 10 organizer wipes off some data from exif-file, f.e. longitude reference (east or west). It is doing that for my exif-files each time I editing jpg-image. If I start editing with Element 10 editor from Picasa-organizer, then longitude references stays untouchable.
    Please advice!

    Hi MichelBParis!
My Computer specs are as follows:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz
    Memory (RAM):      8.00 GB
Graphics:                   I Radeon HD 5800 Series

    Primary hard drive is SSD.
    Secondary HD is 1.36 TB

The second problem is not yet answered: Why PS elements modifies exif-file. In my case posission data longitude referense?

None of my pictures that I uploaded into iPhoto are in my Finder under Pictures.  Should I copy and paste my folders from iPhoto into here, in case something happens to my iPhoto program (in addition to backing them up onto an external hard drive like I already do)?
No, that's just wasting space.  A back up needs to be on a different disk.
Your photos are within the iPhoto Library.

Hi, likely somethiung else, but Free Sophos...

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Premiere Elements 11 + Windows 8 pro = slow timeline scrolling!

    Hi!
I experience slow redraw of the timeline clips when I scroll,
which makes it very difficult, slow and unpleasant to edit!
This in nothing new to you all, as I have read in many posts about this problem!
And everyone is asking (below these posts) questions like:
"do you have the latest QuickTime codecs?" or "do you have the latest graphics drivers?"
or that our pc are slow or that we work with strange video formats or to change to no thumbnail in the clips or that its
    the antivirus fault or whatever.
    It is not all these!
    As I have read:
-It can happen in many versions of Premiere Elements(maybe in all of them, I don't know)
-It can happen in both ATI/AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards
-It can happen in all hardware configurations CPU/motherboards
-It can happen in all windows versions and both 32/64 bit
So I am guessing it is not our fault.
Can Adobe finally fix this problem with an update? It's been so many versions until now!
    please... Is it so difficult?
Can't the programmers see what are we talking about? Can't they fix the programme?
Before I bought Premiere Elements 11 I had the 9 version in windows 7(64bit)
The same problem, slow/laggy timeline redraw when moving back and forth.
The solution I found was to disable the Aero feature in windows 7!
And oh my god... the timeline then was so fast and smooth, I was so happy to edit!
So I compromised with that(disabling aero).
Recently I have upgrad the same PC to windows 8 pro(64 bit) AND bought Premiere Elements 11. (hoping for speed in every possible way!)
The slow timeline scrolling still happens in both PRE9 and in PRE11.
And guess what? in windows 8 pro you can't disable the "aero feature"!!!
You can only change some visual settings, and even if I disable all of them, nothing changes!
So are we really stuck with the laggy timeline scrolling in windows 8???
Premiere Elements 11 is so much faster in all other things (exept the timeline scrolling)
In the preview window for example. It can play really smooth, in real time WITHOUT render preview
some pretty difficult compositions I make! multiple layers, with greenbox and many other filter effects!
Which in Premiere Elements 9 (in the same PC) the preview play was very laggy!
(don't forget that with aero disabled in PE9(win7), same PC, same complicated compositions, timeline scrolling superfast!)
I think they made some pretty good graphic card use in the preview play in PRE11!
I present and edit a youtube show with Premiere Elements with demanding compositing and everyone thinks I use Premiere Pro CS
version or After Effects CS. But I don't, I want to be legal and I can't aford the prices of these applications
so I buy and use the Elements series which are very powerful as well, if you know what to do and HOW to do it!
See for youselves my show I posted today(in Greek, I am from Greece), which I edited in PRE11.(pefrect greenbox, perfect!)
http://youtu.be/HdKAKI6P8tU?hd=1&t=1m28s (open in a new window)
or move time to 1:28 from the below youtube video window.
But unfortunattely the timeline scrolling made my editing unpleasant and slow!
My question is: Will I, (now that I have upgraded to windows 8 pro 64bit) have to edit ALL my next shows/videos
with the slow/laggy timeline scrolling??? please tell me something to hope for...

I have an ATI/AMD FirePro  v4800 1GB GDDR5 with the latest drivers for this card (8.982.8.3)
Is my video card not compatible?
this slow redraw of the timeline happened way before
and everytime a new driver version came up I had installed it but that didn't change anything.
Only with aero disabled I would enjoy a fast timeline scrolling in windows 7. (now, not possible in windows 8 pro)
Bill how can you explain this? Same video card and everytime with the SAME NEW drivers, aero on=slow timeline, aero off=fast timeline!
Is there some kind of a fix that we can always wait from our graphics card companies to include to new drivers??? (for how long???)
or maybe is it all up to Adobe and its own programme?
Are we all supposed to have old video display drivers?
Can someone make some kind of a poll for people who have this problem to vote to see where this problem apears, in which configurations, in which graphics cards? (assuming they have latest drivers)
so we all finally know what/where is the problem.
I love the premiere elements series and thats why I want this to be solved.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 is running very, very slow at times.

At times, PSE 12 is bogging down. It can take up to 10 seconds just to complete a Smart Fix of a photo. At other times draging and making a selction can be like pulling molases. Completing the same operations on the same file in PSE 2 (my current version) is a snap, on the other hand. Any suggetions? I would really like to upgrade.
FYI: I am running Windows XP service pack 2 on a Pentium 2.8 ghz processor with 2GB of ram, a 7200 RPM hard drive and a very capable  video card  (I run CAD programs with no problem).  No other programs are open when running PSE 12.
    Thanks in advance.

For my catalog of 48,000 items, the thumb.5.cache is 1,217,976 KB... and I have no speed problem. So that seems normal.
Are you having speed problems ? Which PSE version ?
What is indicated when you look at the menu Help / System info ?
Do you use face detection, autoanalysis ?

Things You Can Do To Keep Your Computer From Slowing Down
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Upgraded my ipad4 from ios6 to iOS 8 because the new WSJ app required it. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! I can maybe understand some apps being slower but not Safari or Chrome. Apple must be throttling back the ipad4 processor even more with ios8 to force an upgrade to the next gen iPad whenever it arrives.

  • My macbook pro is running very slow and very very hot

hi everyone I have a 13 inch mid 2012 MacBook pro,
it is running very very slow and extremely hot, I downloaded a program called smc fan control and it is reading the internal temperature of my computer as 80 degrees Celsius. I was looking on the forums and saw that I should run an apple hardware test. which I have done and it is coming up with Error 4/MOT/4/40000002: EXHAUST-2003
what does this mean? is it something to do with my fan?
also there is a very strange clicking noise when I lift the mac up or if its on its side and sometimes it just randomly freezes,  the computer does not respond and then it restarts.
    what do I do?
    please help!

" the fan didn't seem congested with dust, at least not enough to cause any malfunction."

Look at step 6. It's that grilled thing at the top of the fan. If you remove the fan that radiator is probably clogged with lint. Brush it all away and if possible blow out the fan with compressed air. Make sure the fan turns freely and doesn't feel stiff.

This isn't a MBP radiator but the problem will look like this.

  • 3gs unbearable slow and very buggy/crashing after upgrading to iOS4

I have a iPhone 3GS with the most up to date OS (iOS4). Ever since I upgraded to this operating system I have noticed a VERY significant slow down in everything. messages takes ages to open even when "fast app switching". Sometimes up to 10 seconds. Also Ive noticed that my iPod app occasionally skips on songs similar to what CD players used to do when you knock them. I attribute this again to the sluggishness of iOS4. Typing in iOS4 very often results in me typing the message then waiting for 30seconds or more for the phone to register what i typed.
Then loading some apps will take much longer than before and a lot of times (like the farmville app) will load for 20 seconds then crash and take me back to the home screen. (I usually reopen the app and it works the second time)
Then the more annoying part is that my phone frequently freezes up and will either take a minute to unfreeze or about twice a day actually crash and restart the phone. This sort of thing has never happened before with iPhone OS 3. Occasionally that OS would hiccup but it was always speedy.
Ive done the hard reset many times with no improvement. Even tried double resetting (hard resetting twice in a row). Ive also restored my phone to factory settings and wiped it clean twice to see if that would fix it but it didnt.
There is no way it should be this terrible. Apple usually makes amazing products so I cant believe iOS4 has been this bad. Im seriously considering downgrading back to iPhone OS3. At least then it was usable.
If there is anyone out there who knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

If you restore your iPhone as a new phone (not from a backup), you will simply lose your SMS massages and some application data such as game high scores.
e-mail and wi-fi password information will have to be re-entered but apart from that you won't lose much else at all.
You simply have to sync your phone once you've restored it and all your contacts, calendar, music etc will be copied back over from iTunes

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and MacBook Pro Retina : Painfully slow exports, very long renders

    Hello All,
This question seems to have been posted before..
I came from Windows land and have used Premiere since '97..
"Let's try a super spec Macbook and have a mobile editing suite.. Great!"
I generally work with DSLR footage, H264 codec and .wav files.
Imports and scrubbing is great, applying effects starts it slowing down and I'll adjust playback to 1/2 or 1/4 resolution.
And that's just on one layer of video..
Now, when it comes to exporting in general, a 50 second clip takes over 30 minutes to render.
    Very frustrating..
I mainly export using the existing presets for YoutubeHD and VimeoHD.
Can't get my head around why it takes so long and I am hoping that perhaps a re-install or a fundamental preference setting will solve it.
In my preferences, I've allocated 11GB of memory to Adobe Production Suite applications and I rarely run 2 at a time.
Scratch disks are set to project folders, on a 4GB RAID1 drive connected via Thunderbolt protocol
    Tech specs :
    Processor  - 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory - 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3
Graphics -   NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Storage - SSD 500GB
    OS - OS X, v10.8.3
I look forward to hearing back from you and thank you in advance

Well, I've run a few tests, and learned something new.
CS6 on my MacBook Pro has three acceleration modes now: Software, Hardware (OpenCL) and Hardware (CUDA).
I've run software only... not so great. Then I ran Hardware Open CL, and it "acts" like CUDA did on my Mac Pro with GTX 285... bars that were red turned yellow, and some things ran without rendering! I was pretty surprised by this, as I have only 512MB VRAM, not 1GB VRAM on the 650M.
This is only my not-very-serious edit-on-the-road system, so I didn't spec it out to be a monster editing laptop, but I'm extremely pleased by how well it runs with CS6. I have two very nice, new SSDs inside; one for OS X/apps, and the other for media, as well as 16GB RAM. Each SSD runs at 500MB/sec +/- whether read or write, despite the second SSD being in the space where the optical drive was.
It's too bad there's not just a *wee bit* more space where the optical drive was... or I'd try to stuff THREE SSDs inside, and RAID two of them for media.
So far, I'm really pleased with how well it works with only 512MB VRAM, which was the question I had wanted answered.
