Ps elements 5.0 freezes at "scanning for plugins"

I have photoshop elements 5.0, and have had no problems with it for the past couple years that I've had it until now. Each time I open the program, it freezes, and it says that it is "scanning for plugins". I'm using it on windows vista. I tried uninstalling all adobe software I had on my computer and then reinstalling it on the advice of a friend, but this didn't help the situation. What should I do to get my photoshop to work again?

In the plug-ins folder, under the subfolder of import-export there was a plug-in called Twain_32. Is that the same thing? Because when I deleted that, there was no change.
Same thing. A little late, but you could have just disabled it by renaming it with the ~ (tilde) sign before the name instead of deleting it.
If it was twain, I would think it would hang on building twain not scanning for plug ins. Here's a tech doc on twain anyway...
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408849.html
First, try a reset of the application preference file.
Windows: Press and hold in as you launch, the ctrl + shift + alt keys as you launch the editor. Do not release these three keys...ctrl + shift + alt keys. A dialog box will come up saying something like "Delete Photoshop Elements settings file?" After this dialog comes up, you can release those three keys. click "OK" to accept.
Mac: Use above instructions to reset the application except change the shortcut key combo to cmd + shift + opt.
Check if Elements loads correctly.
(Maybe, you pointed Elements in your preferences to an external folder with a native filter that belongs to another version of Elements or Photoshop which can cause conflict. The application reset will remove that check mark so if it works with a reset then you point the plug ins folder to another folder and you get a hang then you have a conflicting plug in in that folder.)
If it doesn't....
Have you moved a native plug in from another version of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements into the Photoshop Elements 5.0 plugin folder? Having another version of Element's or Photoshop's filter in Elements will create conflicts. You might also check that you haven't installed a version of Camera Raw that doesn't belong in your version of Elements. (The Camera Raw would probably give a Camera Raw error but something to check since it's stalling at plug ins.)
Have you recently added any 3rd party plug ins...meaning downloaded  and installed a plug in that did not come with Elements? If so, rename them it or them with a ~ before the name.
Check if Elements starts. If so, you can remove ~ mark from each plug in one at a time then restart until you get the hang. This will tell you which plug in causes Elements to hang.

A frequent reason for stalling Photoshop on start up, are bad font files, so I would think the same would be true with a corrupted filter or plugin.
CC handles third party plugins differently to older versions, and you can't point to a folder like you could with CS6 etc.  This link might help

  • Crash on startup 'Scanning for Plugins'

Help! In a moment of lax attention I've done something stupid to the Photoshop CS version (original 1) and told it to search C:/programfiles for plugins whereas I meant to tell it specifically where to look.
So now it crashes when it gets to the 'Scanning for Plugins' part and of course I can't alter it back to what it should be.
Now when I run Image Ready the plugins are still as normal...
System Restore doesn't change the settings. Uninstall of the Photoshop component doesn't put it right either.
Can someone tell me what to do (maybe uninstall/reinstall the entire CS suite - but I guess even then it will still have the bad settings)
So is it a registry thing and if so what needs to be done to stop it searching the entire hard drive programs for plugins.
    Help would be most appreciated.
    Kind regards.
    John.

    delete "PluginCache.psp"
it should be in something like:
    C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings
that folder is hidden. make sure you have the ability to see hidden files and folders turned on in explorer.
if that doesn't clear it, delete:
"Adobe Photoshop CS Prefs.psp" (i think that's the name, i don't currently have cs installed...

  • Logic scans for plugins

when i start logic it scans for this NI akoustik piano plugin i had...I had a demo but deleted it because it was annoying me, and now it still scans for the plugin but fails...this causes me to abort the scan...which causes logic to not pick up any of my other plugins. how can i make logic stop checking for the akoustic piano. I cant figure out how to delete/ reset this preference.
    thanks.

One way is to look in Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ directory and remove the Akoustik Piano plug-in.
Another way is using an Audio Unit plug-in manager like Audio Unit Manager:
    http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/audiounitmanager/
Launch this and uncheck the offending plug-in and it'll move it into another folder "Components (Disabled)"

A quick suggestion would be to try it again without the network cable connected.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 Video Freezes After One Frame

Hi, so my Adobe product worked PERFECT for about a year now, then all of a sudden it just broke, When I put a file into it, it shows the First Frame and Freezes, the Audio plays as if the Video was showing, but the Video is just frozen. I don't know how to fix it, I've uninstalled and re-installed it, but nothing is helping.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on, and what video card/graphics card
does your computer use? NVIDIA GeForce?
If so, please read the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA issue
which forces the Premiere Elements 10 user to roll back the driver version to about May 2013 in order to get
Premiere Elements 10 to function properly. For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of that
Announcement which describes the problem, gives how to information, and all the necessary details.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you
are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of
troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained
workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce
video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card
driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as
March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any
corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the
driver roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
Once we have the video card/graphics card driver matter ruled in or out, we can decide what next if indicated.
    More questions will follow including
    a. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 10?
    b. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    c. Does the problem exist with or without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

  • Why is my Photoshop Elements 5.0 freezing everytime I try to download pics?

Why is my Photoshop Elements 5.0 freezing everytime I try to download pics from card?

Thanks for your response. When it comes to computers, I am almost
illiterate. I have a HP Pavillion PC and have used Photoshop Elements 5.0
for a number of years. Computer crashed couple of weeks ago and I sent it
back to HP. They returned it with new guts I think. Had to reinstall my
programs and use my external backup to get all the stuff back, including
about 11,000 pics.  Now, every time I try to put the SD card in to download
the pics to the Organizer, it downloads about 4 or 5 pics and freezes.
Have to use task manager to get PC going again.  Been doing the same thing
for years and this just happened since I got new PC back. Is that any help?
    'preciate your response.

  • My photoshop elements 9 keeps freezing, can you help me?

My photoshop elements 9 keeps freezing, can you help me?

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • When burning a DVD from Elements 13, it freezes at 90%

when burning a DVD in elements 13, it freezes at 90% and locks up elements until I cancel burn.

    Jerry Jarrett
If you wish to pursue your question about burn to disc, then I would be glad for the opportunity to be of assistance.
The following would be my troubleshooting strategy and questions
    1. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
    2. Have you looked at the issue with and without the Intel HD Graphics 2000 and Higher preferences disabled
    (See Edit Menu/Preferences/General)?
    3. Where are you in Publish+Share/Disc/, DVD, AVCHD, or Blu-ray? And, what does the burn dialog's Quality Area
show for Space Required and Bitrate? What brand/type/capacity disc are you using?
    4. Is the issue specific to one Timeline in one project? Or, is the problem there with another Timeline content and another
    project.
I would prefer to see you sort out the burn to disc issue if possible because of the download problems associated with the 3rd party software
that is typically needed to obtain the disc product from the Premiere Elements VIDEO_TS, BDMV, or ISO Image. Excellent 3rd party software if you
can get it installed without a lot of companion garbage. Although how to have been described for the safest possible download and install, there
are no guarantees that you will not be hit with a lot of computer cleanup just to get one excellent program.

  • Elements 13 Editor freezing up

I have spent the last week trying to get help solving this problem. I have Elements 11 on the same computer, and the Editor works fine. But every time I try to edit a photo in Elements 13, the screen freezes within 2 to 3 minutes. Once it freezes, it stays frozen. It freezes when I'm making my selections with the Quick Selection Tool and the Lasso Tool. I don't know if it freezes during other operations because I haven't been able to get past the selection process without the screen freezing. I have to go into the Task Manager to end the program (although it doesn't say in the Task Manager that it's not responding). I also have the same problem in CS6 if I start in the Elements Organizer and then edit the photo in CS6. However, if I start in Bridge and then edit a photo in CS6, it doesn't freeze. So it seems to be an Elements 13 problem. I have tried all sorts of things so far-uninstalling and reinstalling Elements 13, Neat Image (noise reduction plug-in), and Camera RAW8.7.1. I also hired someone to try to fix it, and he manually removed files from Elements 13 after he uninstalled it to make sure it was completely uninstalled before he reinstalled it. I also tried installing it on a different drive on the computer, and that didn't help either. I also called Dell technical support 3 times in the past week, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, either. There seems to be no way to contact anyone from Adobe. I posted this question on the Elements Village forum, and a lot of people gave me suggestions, but nothing's working. HELP!

    Nikita,
I have to leave for work in about 1/2 hour.

  • How to extend AVK to scan for other vendor-specific APIs?

    All--
How do I extend AVK to scan for other vendor specific APIs.
I tried adding another <name> element underneath the
appropriate the <unsupported> tag in the asmt-config.xml file,
    e.g.
    <websphere50>
    <supported>
    </supported>
    <unsupported>
    <name>com.ibm.ws.activity.ActivityConstants</name>
.......... other <name> elements were left alone ..........
    </unsupported>
    </websphere50>
But when I scanned the source code it didn't find an import of that API.
Note: it did find an import of the APIs that were pre-defined in the asmt-
config file; just not the one that I added.
Is adding a <name> to the asmt-config.xml file the right approach?
If so, how does the SourceScan ant task know where to find the asmt-
config.xml file. Currently, I left it in the %JAVKE_HOME%/config folder.
Is that the right place for that file?
Any comments on how to extend AVK to scan for other vendor
specific APIs would be greatly appreciated.

    Oops!
Its probably bad form to answer your own question, but after
sending out the original post, I treid:
    1. opening a new shell
    2. running the %JAVKE_HOME%/bin/javke_setenv.bat
    3. then ran the "asant code-scan" from that shell and viola it worked ...
    Sorry for any confusion.

  • Once OS starts...Freezes..Asks for me to reset.

This problem started a couple days ago. The only changes I had made were updating my computer with the new OS X update and some other updates. My computer would only work on safe mode. Even that's hard to make happen. Once it freezes a message (in gray) pops up asking me to hold onto the power button in order to restart. I have done this many times. I just reloaded the OS and wiped my drive. It worked fine for a while until a slew of updates were installed. I'm not sure whether it's something wrong with the updates or not. I am sure it is not a hardware issue since it worked fine before any programs were added. Anybody experiencing the same problems? Any suggestions how to stop the freezing. MACs aren't suppose to freeze!!!

You can try running "Apple Hardware Test" to see if it confirms it (note: AHT is not fail safe)
If CD's came with your computer it is on a CD labeled "Hardware Test" To test with CD, insert the CD and restart holding the "c" key until you see the spinning gear.
    If DVD insert DVD then:
    1. Turn on or restart the computer.
    2. Immediately press and hold the Option key. After a few seconds, the Startup Manger screen appearsThe Startup Manager scans for available volumes.
    3. Optional: Clicking the circular arrow rescans for other volumes, including NetBoot Server volumes. You can eject any disc in the drive or open an empty tray-loading drive by holding down the Command (Apple) and Period (.) keys. The Command-Period key combination will also close the drive. After inserting a CD capable of starting up your computer, you could rescan for volumes.
    4. Click the startup volume you want to use. "Hardware Test"
If hardware test does not mount or does not run bring the computer to Authorized Apple Repair.
