PS Elements 9 for Macintosh: Crashes on Start Up (after install)
I've successfully installed Photoshop Elements 9 on my iMac (Intel) running the 10.6.3 and 4GB of RAM. After I go past the "Use as a trial" screen (and I skip the login step), it proceeds to load the app -- but crashes.
The Error log contains no apparent clues. I've un-installed and re-installed the app. I've repaired permissions. I have plenty of space on my Hard Drive ( more than 20% free space). So I'm stumped.
Below is an excerpt of the crash report. Cheers.

Hey everyone,
The reason this MAY be happening could be due to prior installs of Elements Trial or even PS Trial. Adobe has a free download that may fix the issue:
http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
So follow these instructions, then re-install the software and it should work. Maybe. It got CS3 working for me (since PS9 wasn't going to cut it for me anyway).

Many applications CRASHING on start up after installing security updates
I recently ran a software update and installed a bunch of updates, probably 2-3 for Mac OS X (security update) and an iTunes one and all the Final Cut Studio updates. After doing this I've been having a lot of problems with programs crashing on start up. Two programs that come to mind are Apple's Motion and the "Stickies" program included in OS X. Is there any way to fix this without re-installing the entire operating system?!
Thanks for the advice baltwo; I followed the suggestions provided in the link and installed Preferential Treatment but the problem is still present with the application "stickies". It doesn't seem to be a preferences issue, since it is exclusive to one account. I tried copying over the StickiesDatabase file from my account to another and then opening stickies only to find it fails to launch in the other account as well. It seems like my StickiesDatabase file may be corrupted? Is there anyway to recover the information in this file?! My main concern right now is just recovering the notes I made in the Stickies.
Btw, I repaired all permissions and did a lot cache clearing and system optimizing and clean up using ONYX, no improvement afterwards.
One other thing: Most other apps are working fine with the exception of a certain project file in Motion 3 crashing on start up..but that's not my primary concern right now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

FF crashes on start up after install
FF crashes on startup, no page displayed. Crashes in Safe mode.
Un-install, re-install gives same result. Crash report is too obtuse for me to understand.Hey everyone,

Can't start Tomcat after installing Bea WorkShop for JSP
Hi,
I have been using Eclipse SDK Version: 3.1.2 Build id: M20060118-1600 and Web Tools Project 1.0.2 and Tomcat 5.0 and Tomcat 5.5 for about 2 months with no problems. But now I Can't start Tomcat after installing Bea WorkShop for JSP plug-in. I get "Server Tomcat v5.0 @ localhost failed to start". Any help would be greatly appreciated.I installed BEA Workshop for JSP Version: 3.1.0
Build id: 536. I only wanted to install the plug-in to my existng Eclipse 3.1 / WTP application. The only option that I saw was to download the entire FullWorkshopFreeInstall-536.zip, which is 192,496 KB. During the installation, there is a screen that you can specify to only install the plug-in - and I selected that option. Today, I chose to uninstall the BEA Workshop for JSP and then I was again able to start Tomcat server. I then did a complete install of BEA Workshop for JSP into a totally separate location. My original Eclipse installation still works fine, but my Workshop for JSP Version (which is now a completely new installation) has the same problem with Tomcat that I reported with the plug-in. I am using j2sdk1.4.2_08 and have tried both Tomcat 5.0 and Tomcat 5.5. I have the same problem with both Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional.
Thanks for your assistance.

Acrobat Pro for Mac won't start, even after restarting the machine. Any suggestions?
Hi Patrick,
Can you please mention the version of Adobe Acrobat that you are using and on what OS version. Also mention whether this problem has started recently and was running fine earlier or is it a fresh install and has never worked for you.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the product after you started facing this issue.

Logic pro not starting up after install.
Ive tried to install Logic pro twice and both time it will not start up after install. can someone tell me what is the best way to install this program correctly? should i just pay apple more money to install the program for me?
I have exactly the same problem. Whilst 8.0.1 would hang during startup without displaying the splash screen intermittently 8.0.2 crashs every time a few seconds after displaying the splash screen.
Although my computer is almost 6 years old it is perfectly adequate for audio work. I hope this is fixed soon. Unimpressed with the quality control. -
No start-up after installing 10.2
Hello All:
I cannot get my iMac to start up after installing OS 10.2
This - one of the last iMac CRT's - is my old computer which I have erased so I may give it to my niece for Christmas. The machine was running OS 10.2; it has 256MB, a 40 gig HD; it is a graphite slot-loader with a 600mhz processor (I believe).
Once I erased it, I began loading new software: it would take up to 10.0.4 and run, but once I installed 10.2 (from a disk I bought from Apple - white background, blue X) I would get a message to reboot in many languages after the gray screen. A few times I got code during start-up and the machine would freeze.
I ran the firmware updater and installed OS 9.2 thinking that would help. I reset PRAM. I reinstalled 10.0 from different disks I had - the ones which ship with the computer. I ran software updater. Nothing works.
The only thing I thought of doing was getting a copy of OS 10.1 to install after 10.0, but before 10.2. Does this make a diffrence? Can I just jump to OS 10.2? Why didn't the machine ask for the second disk when installing 10.2? Did I do something wrong when I erased the disk? What do I do next?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Rob
iMac Mac OS X (10.4.3)Hi Rob, and welcome to the discussions.
The multi-lingual message to restart is called a kernel panic. This can be caused by software (third-party extensions or drivers) or hardware.
You said the machine was running 10.2 before you erased it to configure for your neice. If so, then your firmware was already up-to-date. Did you change anything on the iMac? New hard drive, new RAM, non-apple keyboard or mouse?
Prior to installing 10.2, you installed 10.0.4 (this isn't necessary, by the way; as long as the firmware is up-to-date, you can erase the hard drive and go straight to 10.2). Did you install any other software? When you installed 10.2, did you did an archive and install, or an upgrade?
I'd suggest starting fresh:
Step 1: Unplug all peripherals (except keyboard and mouse) and boot from your 10.2 install disk, then launch Disk Utility from the Install menu at the top of the screen;
Step 2: Erase the hard drive, and install the OS9 drivers (look for a check-box in the erase window);
Step 3: Have Disk Utility repair the disk (if it fixes any errors, keep running it until it finds no errors);
Step 4: Quit Disk Utility, and continue with the Installer.
Good luck!

Can't Start Portal After Install
After downloading and installing the of evaluation Portal 4.0 SP1, I get the following message upon startup when I enter the system password that I entered during installation:
Starting WebLogic Server ....
The WebLogic Server did not start up properly.
Exception raised:
java.lang.IllegalAccessError: try to access method weblogic/management/internal/

at weblogic.t3.srvr.T3Srvr.run(T3Srvr.java:202)
at weblogic.Server.main(Server.java:35)
Reason: Fatal initialization exception
I even tried "weblogic" for the system password and I get the same message.
What password should I use to start the server?I've followed the directions and am experiencing the exact same problem. Brand
new installation of Weblogic server 6.1 SP2 with examples. That install is working.
Then added Portal 4.0 SP1, updated the license file and I have the same issue
with the Illegal access exception resulting in the "Fatal initialization exception"....
Hmm!

Below listed are the common errors you run into during installation
process:
- You need to have the correct version numbers of both the weblogic
server and the portal server. For instance the portal server 4.0 (eval
copy) will only run on WebLogic 6.1 SP1. So check the edocs for
supported platforms
- Make sure you have the installed the full version of the weblogic
server (including examples)
- Finally, you need to run the UpdateLicense.cmd file to update the
license.bea under ur Bea Root
Give it a shot after u have checked all of the above three - goodluck

Can someone help?Hello, bump for me on this really annoying issue. Running Windows 7 SP1, fully updated drivers. Using latest Itunes, 10.7.0.21. Just like the others, every time I try to open Itunes, the Itunes store seems like it's trying to load.. and then I inevitably get the "Itunes has stopped working.. Windows is checking.. blah blah" and then crash. I have tried every fix I could find on these and other forums:
1. Uninstalled/Reinstalled all Apple software as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 along with running CC Cleaner (after uninstall/before reinstall of course). DIDN'T WORK.
2. Did the winsock reset listed here https://discussions.apple.com/message/17412059#17412059. DIDN'T WORK.
3. Corrupt User Profile (Kernalbase.dll) Issue: Did the renaming of corrupt Itunes folder listed here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-HK/w7itprogeneral/thread/be53aac5- c560-478a-9598-e0c6a33d9da7 and that worked the FIRST time after renaming the folder to Itunes.old.. i.e. opening Itunes after doing this was successful and thus created a new Itunes folder. However, after closing itunes and reopening.. I was right back to square one.. Itunes crashing. (This did "work" partially so probable that issue has something to do with Corrupt Itunes User Profile??) Ultimately, DIDN'T WORK.
*BTW, I also did a Run Diagnostics from the help menu of Itunes and got 3 green lights for network connectivity.. one of which is of course "Secure link to Itunes store verified". So Itunes is telling me it seems to be communicating fine with Itunes Store.
There's nothing else that I can see to do short of reinstalling Windows... which I really don't want to do.
HOWEVER, after some trial and error, I found a weird little workaround. It seems like the crash is happening upon the initial attempt by Itunes to connect to the Itunes store. Here's what I did:
1. After opening Itunes (and the initial opening event is so that Itunes tries to connect to Itunes Store -- this will happen if the last page you were on the last time you closed Itunes was Itunes Store), QUICKLY click on "Music" (or any other "offline" library) on the left upper pane of Itunes. This will take you to your Music library and Itunes will STOP trying to connect automatically to Itunes store. So now, Itunes is open at least. Note: Others have mentioned correctly that if you open Itunes with your internet connection off, it will at least allow you to open Itunes b/c Itunes doesn't try to open Itunes Store if you're offline. My workaround accomplishes the same thing while still being connected to the internet.
2. Now, if you now click on "Itunes Store" directly, it WILL CRASH as per usual.
3. Instead, click on "Purchased" which is directly under "Itunes Store". Click ok to the pop-up. Then, on the bottom right of the screen, click on "Download Previous Purchases". This will open the previous purchases page which is actually WITHIN the Itunes store. If you look at the left pane, Itunes Store will now actually be highlighted. You're now in the Itunes store.. just via the "sidedoor" if you will. You will also now see all the usual Itunes Store categories along the top of this page like the Home Icon, music, movies, tv, apps, etc. etc. Click on the Home Icon (music, movies, whatever) and VOILA, it will open Itunes store without crashing!
4. Now that you're "in", you can jump around freely during THIS session. IE, you can freely go back and forth from looking at your left-pane offline music library, movies, apps, whatever.. and click on Itunes Store in the left pane and Itunes will not crash... you know, how Itunes normally works!
5. When you're done using Itunes just make sure the last screen you use before you close Itunes is "Music" or some such. That way, you won't have to do the "quickly hit Music" the next time you use Itunes. It will automatically just go to the offline Music library and not try to access the Itunes Store. Then, just repeat step 3 and you'll be "in" again.
I really hope this workaround works for you until Apple updates/patches Itunes for those of us that are having this issue. If it keeps working for me, I'm gonna live with it until the next Itunes version update hopefully resolves this issue.
OH! PS. I'm also having the Apple Software Update issue mentioned here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4040994?start=60&tstart=0. I have no idea how to solve this.. wondering if it's related to the Itunes crashing issue. I'm also getting the error message when trying to update quicktime from the help menu here https://discussions.apple.com/message/19392457#19392457. -
Firefox crashes on start, even after complete reinstallation. No add-ons.
Every time I open FF, it completely freezes within 5 seconds. I've uninstalled & reinstalled, I've removed FF & all traces of its data using Revo uninstaller, then reinstalled, and still get the same results. I've seen where malware could cause this kind of problem, so I've run full scans with Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Scanner, and Kaspersky Security scanner. They all came back clean.
I'd love to submit a crash report, but apparently these crashes aren't generating them. The only thing in AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports is an InstallTime file, dated today (the date of my most recent reinstall). I also can't add any troubleshooting information, as FF crashes before I can add anything.
Here's exactly what happens: I launch FF, whish responsive for the first couple seconds. After that, it freezes completely, and eventually "(Not Responding)" is added to the title bar. A little bit later, Windows pops up, asking if I'd like to check for a solution. That's it.
Win 7 Pro, FF 18.0.2.Hello bob287, can you start Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#os=win7&browser=fx18 Safe Mode] by holding down the shift key while starting Firefox ?
also, try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
thank you -
malware/spyware removal, searched for backdoor.urlbot.c, etc. now today a pop-up firefox.exe - system error says "the maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded. the length & number of secrets is limited to satisfy the US dept export restrictions. Really? Just curious that this pop up window isn't a spoof. Since this spate of crashing just started could I be infected despite TrendMicro security, Malwarebytes & SuperAntiSpyware being used?
I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account? I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.
