PS Elements 9 ... Quick Mask?

Hi,
I am assuming PS Elements 9 does not have the "Quick Mask" feature.  Anybody out there know which version of PS Elements does?

No version of photoshop elements that i know of actually had Quick Mask built in other than the selection brush tool as Ken mentioned.
However in photoshop elements 1 thru 3 you could get quickmask mode with actions, usually most people used Grant's Tools to get quickmask in those versions.
Does the Selection Brush Tool not do what you need?

  • Quick Mask Icon

I just found out about the "Quick Mask Tool" in CS5.  I didn't know about it since it didn't appear in the tool bar on the left hand side.  I can't seem to find it anywhere.  I know that the shortcut is "Q", but when using the tool bar icon, there are some other selections that can be made.  I know this only from a tutorial that I am watching.  The person giving the tutorial only references the quick mask icon, but not how to get it to appear in the tool bar.
    Please help

Just to make sure: You are using Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?

  • Quick mask mode problem in Photoshop CS6 64bit

Hi, I have recently installed Photoshop CS6 after previous happy experience with CS3.
The software appears to be seizing up when editing a selection in quick mask mode (image or layer mask) under the following conditions:
    - 64 bit mode
    - image > screen size, especially at 100% maginification
    - or image magnification adjusted whilst in quick mask
The red mask appears slowly and only where I move the mouse curser - but will not cover the entire masked area.
The software freezes, and I have to kill the process from the OS. Task manager shows its status as 'running' and memory / CPU do not appear to be maxed out.

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Quick mask problem in CS5

I am a newbie and I have come across a problem which I cannot seem to rectify, when trying to use the quick mask tool and select the paintbrush it does not work, i.e no mask is created, can anyone help

Adobe Acrobat doesn't have a  quick mask tool.

  • Quick mask mode no longer works for Photoshop CC

I have the latest version of Photoshop CC,  and  the  quick-mask-mode no longer functions as it should. When I try to modify an existing mask with the quick-mask-mode the highlighted read only appears on some of the photo being edited. In additions, those highlighted that do appear red only do so very slowly. This problem appeared after a recent update to Photoshop CC.
I have been using this quick-mask-mode for the last 10 years and have never seen this bug before.
I know how to check the options and my opacity is at 50%.
I use quick-mask-mode frequently and I need it to work.
Is there a setting I need to change?
It is hard to believe that I am the only one with this problem.

I'm having the same problem and I just downloaded the latest updates, which didn't seem to fix it. Here's a screen shot:
And the red just along his tricep I had to draw "blind" because it wouldn't populate the brush stroke to cover his arm until after I moved my mouse to the side of the screen. Any changes or movement on the screen is slower than molasses.

  • Hi All, ready for a quick mask question from a newbie ;-) ?

When I make a quick mask selection, it becomas "red-ish" as it suppose to. When I leave quick mask mode however, the painted area does not become a visible (yes I checked the correct option dialogue box, I guess, according to a friend) selected area though. But when I make any adjustment, eg color saturation, it only affects the area I selected in the quick mask mode, which I cannot see except for the adjustment. How on earth did I manage to make this happen. What have I done wrong or haven't done at all? You kind attention and quick reply is highly appreciated. Best /Stefan

Thanks a lot, Sir, much appreciated. Under View options one can selected "show selection outlines or boundaries", well not in swedish, it says something completely different, but just as you said, there it was!
    Again, thanks a lot!

  • No Quick Mask mode in Photoshop CC Win

My Photopshop CC for windows does not open quick mask mode when I try any of these three (Select / edit in quick mask, or hitting Q on the keyboard, or clicking the washing machine Icon) Instead it goes into and Alpha/8 or 16 mode. And I am not able to paint any masks? What an I missing? I have the latest software (last week) and use the windows version.

Usually when Quick Mask is set up properly, the selected (painted) areas are shown as 50% red. For example when you use a brush to paint your selected areas.  By the way using ordinary selection tools while in Quick Mask mode will not show the red area, you must use the selection tools then go into Quick mask mode to see the red area.
To see what your Quick Mask settings are like, double-click the Quick Mask icon, and the options should look like this:
The 50% red comes from olden days when graphic designers would apply a red film called "Rubylith" to mask off areas in artwork and tailor it with an exacto knife.

  • Problem with quick mask selection appearence

  • Quick masks in Lightroom

This is probably more of a suggestion about the adjustment brush/quick masks. It would be nice to be able to selectively add your to your adjustment while viewing the quick mask. We can do this in Photoshop and it works wonders in narrowing down your area of selection/adjustments. I find myself not using the adjustment brush as much as I could because it’s rather cumbersome, I end up missing lots of spots within my area, you basically have to "remember" where your gaps in your adjustment are. Just food for thought for future updates of Lightroom.
Currently running Lightroom 2.4 on PC and Mac

It would be nice to be able to selectively add your to your adjustment while viewing the quick mask.
You can paint, while viewing the overlay (quick mask, as you call it).

  • CS3: Quick Mask trouble

Quick mask is a fantastic tool but I'm having trouble with it. I used the quick mask to select the area I wanted and hit "q" again to give me a selection, then used invert selection to swap from having everything BUT that area, to ONLY that area. I created a new layer and overlayed the color layer I wanted and changed the blending options for the layer to "Soft Light". I then used Ctrl+D to deselect.
The color overlay I wanted to use is fine, but I have a thin grey line (1-2 pixels wide) running around the entire perimeter of where my selection was. It is part of the base layer, not the overlay layer but I can't for the life of me work out where it came from. I checked whether it was only part of the PSD file but upon saving as a JPG the line is still very much present.
Has anyone else experienced this and or/know of a way to fix it?

Soft for the greater part of the work. However I did no work on the background layer where this line has appeared, only on the other.

  • Doubt on quick mask mode?

Hi i have 3 layers in photoshop.
    Background
    layer1
    layer2
Now on layer 2 i did a selection and entered into quick mask mode and then applied gussian blur. When this is done does the selection borders try to blend with the back ground or will they try to blend with the layer 1 as it is the layer just behind the layer 2. In case if there is no background, I mean if all three are layers then what happens?

Just got more confused. I do understand what do u mean by glass plates. i am not changing the order of the layers. My question is specific. The selection on the layer 2 normally will have hard edges. I want to smoothen them. So i have applied quick mask and after that i have applied blur to the selection edges. So now the edges have to blend into the background. So when i apply blur to edges of the selection on layer 2 which is above layer 1 do the edges try to blend directly with the back ground or will they try to blend with the image on layer 1 which one will it consider for blending the edges?
I have an image in the background and another image in layer 1. when i apply blur for edges on layer 2 and after that i did inverse selection and removed the selected part of the image on layer 2. So at that time we can see the smooth edges.
The following is the tutorial that led me to this confusion

  • CS 4 Quick mask problem

    Hi
    My first posting here
Cant figure out whats wrong. Maybe somebody here can guide me to a solution.
    When selected quick mask.
Masking out an area and using brush to select area.
When exiting the mask i dont get the marked area visible by the "walking ants" showing my what area i masked.
    Regardless of brush diameter.
Before i had the same problem when opacity was set lower than for example 50. Setting the value higher solved the problem.
Now opacity is 100 but i can see through the marked out area
I have choosen red as color for masking area.
Also the brush is "cut" in half when exceeding ca 300 in brush diameter.
    Any tips?
    AVFR

    Thanks for quick replies.
Photoshop is updatet to latest version,
Drivers are not possible to update yet. No newer that the one i am using.
There exist one that nvidia says will fit to my laptop but get a fault message when installing.
    Will examine this further,
    Regarding if color i 100 % black.
    Where can i check this?
When using cs 3 i couldnt see through the quick mask when opacity was 100.
Now it seems like 50 %
Regardless of which color i choose to use when brushing the areas i want selected
Is there another menu option where i can check enter opacity?
