PS Elements Import Kinda Works, Kinda Doesn't

I imported about 7500 images from PSE4 into LR1.0. My first reaction was "wow!". Keywords are all there (I thought), all the collections as well. Collections have lost their ordering - now just chronological - but I could live with that. However, there are a couple of glitches.
1. In looking at the stuff in LR I discovered a few missing images. It turns out that they were "disconnected" in PSE. My fault - apparently I'd somehow moved them. However, it sure would have been nice if LR had told me, rather than happily finish the import with no warning message. The moral is, check in PSE for disconnected images before you import.
2. The keywords are kind of weird. It nests them, to mirror the PSE structure, but some images also show the same keywords un-nested. For instance, I've got tags "people / family / fred". In the LR keyword list, there's a dropdown "people" list, then "family", etc. However, there's also a "fred" keyword at the top level, but only some images have the "fred" keyword in addition to keyword "fred > family > people", which they all have. I can't see a patterm, thouugh maybe it's jpg's at the top level which might have had tags written to them, while raws and such are only in the nested. Just a bit weird.
3. The biggest problem is that one whole nested "tree" of tags was not turned into keywords at all. I've now got about 1000 images with no keywords, even though they had tags in PSE, and it corresponds to all the images in my "activities" tree (which included sailing, baseball, ...). All the other trees are there. I don't get this one at all. Seems like a real bug.
4. Somehow, I've got about 25 images more in LR than I had in PSE. This one, I don't understand at all. I haven't found the extra images yet. I guess it's better than fewer images, though. Maybe the photos were in the directories, but had never been imported into PSE, though that seems unlikely.
So, it's definitely way better than nothing, but not completely trouble-free.
Still it sure is nice to be in LR now, instead of the PSE organizer!

I had only begun in Elements so I wasn't terribly concerned about how much I lost. I just opened up Elements and it is pretty bad. A number of tags are entirely missing. Some are there but aren't tagging much of anything. For example, the flowers tag is there but it is tagging only 3 photos. In Elements it had 77.
Maybe we were supposed to have written out the tags into the metadata before importing? It clearly read the database so why would that be necessary.
The reason I downloaded the Lightroom trial while waiting for my box is I was working pretty hard on getting scanned slides into the system, organizing, tagging, restoring, and making them available to the kids and grandkids and decided I really didn't want to lose anything, so if I was going to switch I needed to do it asap.
I don't know what I'm going to do with Elements, which I've had for about 2 weeks. I would give it to my sister in law except for one single feature -- emailing photos.

    At the forum level, there is no instantaneous reply. And, there is no "how long before I get someone to post in my thread" expectation.
    This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. Although I personally try to see that every thread has a viable reply before the end of the day, there are no guarantee how long it will take for a thread to be answered with some information that may actually help you resolve your particular issue. I am not affiliated with Adobe in anyway. Just a user with an overactive troubleshooting gene.
    From what you wrote, you no longer have a purchased product. You demanded your money back from Adobe via its Adobe Chat, and you got what you demanded, that is, your money back request put into action. So, I am not sure what you are left to work with.
    If you purchased from an online download from Adobe and the install apparently did not take, then it is not unreasonable to be asked to uninstall/reinstall the program with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled. That may or may not help. There are certain troubleshooting drills that need to be followed as one systematically goes through the progress of ruling factors in or out of the problem equation.
    Part of the drill might have included:
    a. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
    b. Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus installed?
    c. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and with Run As Administrator applied to the desktop icon?
    d. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card? How many video cards/graphics cards does your computer use, 1 or 2?
    e. Is your computer connected to the Internet?
    f. Is the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 13?
    g. Other
    But, none of the above is going to be of use if you do not have a purchased copy of Premiere Elements 13 to work with. You need to sort out your Adobe situation with Adobe.

    You should be able to invert in Lightroom. But choose the point curve rather than the region curve. If the negative is film you might get better results from scanning.

    I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in.   Still no luck.  I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support  This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out. 
    Another piece of the puzzle is that  footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and  I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3.   Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX.  The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
    Any ideas?  (screen shots below)

    FYI Here is what Canon says
      "There is another trick that works sometimes though.  Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility.  Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
    I did do this but no results.  Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.

    Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX.  I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

    Any ETA on when this will be fixed? We work with the Siebel CRM products and the underlying data model is full of DATE fields whose default value is NULL. As a result, there are very few tables which can be imported for diagramming.

    When you click on the Playclaw's Encoder tab, what do you see in the next dialog for Video Compression when the Container field in that dialog is set to .avi?
    Since you are seeing some video at all in Premiere Elements (glitchy as it is), I am assuming the video compression is not AVCHD. If that were the case, I would expect you not to be able to import the file at all. By any chance is the video compression Xvid or DivX?
    It appears that Video compression could also be "H.264 Intel QuickSync" with a mkv file extension. That seems ruled out since you say your file extension is .avi and not mkv.
    So, with the .avi file extension
    what is listed as Video Compression and what have you done, if anything, under the Encoder Setup button?
    Do you have the same issues with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    Also, if you took footage that worked before in Premiere Elements back into today's Premiere Elements, problems or no problems?
    At this time, can you import a bunch of jpg photos into a project and work without this type of issue?

  • Photoshop Elements 7 stopped working

    My Photoshop Elements 7 stopped working.  Error message; "A prpoblem caused theis program to stop working correctly.  Windows will clsoe the program and notify you if a solution is available.  How can I repair?

    Start PSE to get to the Welcome screen.
    Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys and click Organize. Keep holding down the keys until you see the Catalog window.
    Select your catalog and click Repair.  Select “repair anyway” even if PSE doesn’t find problems.
    Then for good measure, click Optimize.
    If repairing resolves your issue then fine else repeat the above steps, but click New to create a new catalog.  If you’re able to import photos into the new catalog and the Organizer works fine, then problem can be old catalog.
    In that case you can try regenerating the thumbnails.  Do Show All, Edit > Select All, and then Edit > Update Thumbnail.
    -Check if AutoAnalyzer.exe is running in your task manager. End the task and try.

    What kind of external camera is this? I am assuming it is a USB camera? Make sure that you aren't using any USB hubs. Also try connecting it to another USB port. Have you installed the drivers from the camera manufacturer yet?

    Have you checked whether you have folder for PSE Organizer?  It is normally at this location in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1:
    <C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer>
    If the folder is there then try double-clicking on the file called:  PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe
    If the folder isn't there at all then you need to re-install the package again using your original disks or from download from Adobe website.  <Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10>

    On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running? Have you had the opportunity to update 13 to 13.1 using an opened projects Help Menu/Update?
    What are the full properties of your source media and how are you importing them that you are trying to import into the project? A quick way to get that information, if you do not know that information, is for you to post the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
    Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Element 13, and are you running the program as Administrator?
    Lots of additional questions, but the answers to the above may give us the answer that you need to resolve you issue.

    Premiere elements 11 stopped working all of a sudden. Says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly" I re-installed it but still the same.
    I haven't installed any other apps except adobe reader and there were a few Windows updates but that was it. Some history - I had defraged my hard drive when this started to happen. Wouldn't the re-install have fixed it if the de-frag caused this problem? What is causing elements to stop loading at the splash screen?

    If this is one of those Importer QuickTime type issues, the answers are few if any.
    If you have not already tried
    Have you attempted to delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary,
    the whole 11.0 Folder in which it exists.
    then, please try the following...
    My expectations for the following are not high, but worth the time -
    1 uninstall the usual Control Panel way - you might want to uninstall QuickTime at the same time.
    2. free ccleaner run through (regular and registry parts)
    CCleaner - Download
    3. reinstall QuickTime and then Premiere Elements with anti-virus and firewall(s) disabled.
    Others on the list...
    1. Create a new User Account with Administrative Privileges and install and run Premiere Elements
    from there.
    2. Use a new set of installation files either from Adobe if you purchased the program from it as an online
    download, or get tryout installation files for 11 into which you can insert your purchased serial number.

    Photoshop Elements 11 stops working after it opens the organizer.  This is after I imported pics / movies from my cell phone which caused it to crash. Any suggestions?

    No.  The program stops working a few seconds after the Organizer opens up.
    The only reason I brought up importing photos is because this problem started after I tried to import photos directly from my cell phone.  The first time I tried to import photos from my phone, I connected the phone via USB.  Then I used the "Get Photos" feature in Organizer and selected the drive which showed up corresponding to the phone.  Unfortunately, I think it downloaded items that were not photos or videos.  It crashed during the attempt to import.  When the organizer opens up I have a few seconds to see my photos and there are a few that look like bar codes and rainbow colors.  I am concerned that the program downloaded files from the phone that are causing the problem.
    I searched through my photo folders looking for bad files but could not find any.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Elements an the problem persists.
