PS Elements won't open image

I'm having a strange problem with the PS Elements 9 software on my wife's mini mac computer.  The program launches fine, and when I try to open a picture (any picture - I've tried lots) I get the various dialog boxes ("reading Photshop format", color mode conversion progress bar, etc.), but then no window showing the photograph.  No error message.   Also, none of the windows (info, history, layers, etc.) that I've selected show up.  If I go to the file menu to "open recent", it lists the photos I've told it to open but have never seen.
I've tried uninstalling the software and then reinstalling it, but continue to have the same problem.  It worked fine when I last used it several months ago.  I have various other Photoshop software on my other computers (CS 5, CS 4) and have never had this problem.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

The editor prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Cmd+Opt+Shift keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or go to applications and hold down the three keys whilst double clicking on the Photoshop Elements Editor application.
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
Click on Yes
Close down Elements and re-open it in the normal way - then wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.

I re-installed my Mac OS, but now Elements won't open. Licensing stopped working. Error code 150:30.
This is Photoshop Elements 8, and I have the original disc with serial number so I can re-install that.
The probelm is I'd need to de-cactivate the serial number before un-installing, and I need to open the programme to do that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Okay, I've found that this is a recognised problem.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS
and all the solutions tell me to find the folder FlexNet Publisher in my library.
Problem is FlexNet Publisher doesn't seem to exist there. Can't find it anywhere on my hard drive.
Gettting down to the end of that page gives me the following info....
The FlexNet folders and files required to run Adobe applications can become corrupted or have permission problems if moved from one machine to another. They can also be damaged through a Time Machine system restore. FlexNet service licensing failures cannot be resolved by reinstalling the application or by using the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool. If permissions issues prevent the FlexNet licensing service from launching, accessing data, or communicating with Adobe processes, a licensing failure occurs.
Well it looks like backing everything up using Time Machine may have caused all this problem. Anyone know how to get Flexnet Publisher back?

  • Photoshop Elements won't open. I have tried re-installing. I have windows pro 7

Photoshop Elements won't open. I have tried re-installing. I have windows pro 7

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Editor and see if you can launch the program directly from the desktop.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New à Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Editor application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: à Program Files à Adobe à Photoshop Elements 9
Within the Photoshop elements 9 folder find PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe (with the blue icon)
Select that file and click Next.
    Then click Finish.
You should now be able to launch by double clicking on the new desktop icon, bypassing the welcome screen.

  • I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

You can never, never transfer an installed copy of PSE. PSE is not a tidy package like most mac apps; the installer strews stuff all over your hard drive and neither you nor the migration assistant can ever hope to find all the necessary bits and pieces.
Now you have kind of a mess to clean up. First download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
It won't seem to do anything, but it's necessary in order for you to be able to successfully manually remove what did get transferred so that you can reinstall PSE.
Then go around and remove all the bits you can find, not only from applications but from your user>library>preferences and especially from hard drive>library>application support. Note that those are two different libraries.
Then you can reinstall PSE from scratch.

  • Photoshop Elements won't open

I've been using this computer in my workshop for simple things, mostly email, fb, etc. It has had Photoshop CS (very old, not sure what version) and Photoshop Elements 2.0 on it and both have been working fine. Just brought it into the house to use in the office after my slightly newer, but still old, iMac G5 died. I'm hoping to use it for a short time while figuring out what to do next regarding a newer computer. I've gotten it connected to printer and scanner with a bit of trouble due to trying to find old drivers again. That's really all I'm aware of having changed. Now suddenly PE and P CS won't open. I reinstalled PE (which is what I use most); no change. It starts to open, then just quits. I've clicked on "report" and see the following:
    Date/Time:      2012-04-11 00:02:41.529 -0400
    OS Version:     10.4.11 (Build 8S165)
    Report Version: 4
    Command: Photoshop Elements 2.0
    Path:    /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 2/Photoshop Elements 2.0/Contents/MacOS/Photoshop Elements 2.0
    Parent:  WindowServer [66]
    Version: 2.0 (2.0)
    PID:    246
    Thread: 0
    Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x6f726b2e
Of course there's lots more but that's the part with the bad words like "bad access" and "invalid address" and such. I'm hoping someone can tell me what is going on; perhaps you know what the above means? Or maybe there is some other clue here? I'd be grateful. Thanks for reading.

PS Just to be clear, no major changes in software; I have been running both Photoshop programs on this computer, with OS 10.4.11, since getting the computer as a hand-me-down a couple of months ago. I did update OS, Safari, and a few other things at that time, as well as maxing the memory, deleting many programs and files I'll never use, etc. Installed PE 2.0 at that time. CS was already on it. Both have worked just fine. When I reinstalled PE the installer said it had installed properly.

Well, just in case someone else checks in here with the same problem. Got both programs working just fine again. I hunted up other threads on the same topic; several had posts suggesting trashing certain plug-ins and/or prefs. I'd tell you exactly what but I did a bunch and not sure which solved it. With Photoshop CS 8.0, I deleted plist in user library; no change; then deleted twain plug-in, now it opens just fine. I don't exactly comprehend why, but so far so good. If I have any other useful observations I will post them.

PS I ordered a PRAM battery and will replace that anyway, just because I'm certain it is quite old; perhaps this will prevent other problems popping up. I need to get a bit more use out of this nice old machine!

  • Bridge won't open images

When I double click an image in Bridge, the image won't open in Photoshop. That's only one of numerous problems I am having with the Bridge that came out with PS CS3, but this has just occurred in the last day. I restarted the computer, but that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

AFAIK, you need to open Bridge, use cmd K to access Prefs, and make sure the box that enables that double click action is checked. hth, kl

  • My free trial download of photoshop elements won't open because of missing elements. I've already installed twice. What can I do?

I downloaded the free trial of Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and now it won't open because it says there are "...missing files. Please reinstall."  I've already downloaded it twice and it still didn't fix it. Is there anything I can do to fix it? TIA.

SkylaNicole what is the specific error which you are receiving when trying to open Photoshop Elements?

  • CS6 won't open images

I can't get images to open in CS6. Get the following message. "Adboe Photoshop CS6 stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working." Reistalled several times. This error also happens with Elments 10.  Installed older verson of Elements 7 and this works fine. HP ENVY 64 bit, plenty of ram, gigs etc. Spent several hour with HP support, checking system, no virus's etc. Can open images in Bridges...Camera Raw

I'm just suggesting that I have to look at all here...that's all. I' m looking for help, trying to resolve an issue has not been changed on my part since I install CS6 7 month ago along with NIK, no updates, no nothing.   You guys got plug - in on CS6 to run third party software, that's why it's there...Correct?  Somewhere, other than yourself, someone at Adobe must have come across these issues with plug-ins and have some sort of guidance.  I read all the issues with CS6 and they are not all related to third party software.  So don't come like to me like Adobe doesn't have issues with a $675.00 program and you all "walks on water." It always the "others guys fault.  I expect support. for Adobe, NIK, Epson and all the other folks That I buy from I'm a photographer, not a software expert. Expect Adobe to help resolve an issue, not blame others....Hope I', clear on this. One way or the other I'll get this resolved with or without Adobe's help.
And if I do run another plug in and it doesn't work then for sure I would expect Adobe to replace the CS6

  • LR4 won't open images in CS6

I cannot get LR4 to open images in CS6 using "Edit in". LR opens CS6 with no problem but no image appears. I have tried everything I know - uninstalled both, reinstalled both, cleared out registry, checked I have latest upgrades and both using same ACR (7.2) etc but it still won't work. Using Windows 7 by the way.

This question comes up at least once a day - have you searched?

  • LR3 Won't Open Images in CS5!

    Hello!
I've been running both LR3 and CS5 for months and months, and now suddenly, when I go to "Edit in Photoshop CS5..." an image, it won't open in CS5! It always worked great before. Now, instead, CS5 does nothing, or throws up an open dialogue box of its own. What gives? And, sometimes, after trying to open images to edit them in CS5, I'll notice that CS5 now has, in its "Open Recent..." drop down menu under the File menu, some strange file names with an .ini suffix, or long strings of letters and numbers that mean nothing to me. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8 Help! This is very strange!
    Tom

My issue is resolved! I simply updated LR from 3.4 to 3.5, and also updated to the latest CS5, and everything is working fine now. My problem does have one similarity to yours, though: I recently added an external hard drive, where my LR catalogs and images are now being stored. I don't know if adding the external hard drive caused LR3 (or CS5) to somehow lose track of where the image was that needed to be opened!
Anyway, all is working fine now, and I'm a happy camper.

  • CS 5 won't open images from Lightroom 3

    Hi,
I just upgraded to CS5 from CS3, and I've been using Lightroom 3 since it came out. The installation went fine. After working on some images in Lightroom 3.3, I tried to open them in CS5 12.02, and strange things started to happen. Some times the images open, some times they don't. This applies to NEFs, TIFFs, and PSDs. Sometimes when I try to open an image from my Lightroom catalog, CS5 mysteriously opens small jpegs of photos that are not even in my catalog. In fact, they are images I don't even recognize and did not even know were on my computer.
I called Adobe Customer Support. They were helpful, and they had me set CS5 as my external editor as well as being the primary editor. They also helped me reset my preferences for both Lightroom and CS5. This seemed to work, but when I opened Lightroom and CS5 the next day, the problem started happening again, even when I open images in CS5 using the second external editor.
I spent over and hour on the phone with Customer Support the first time, and I'm trying to get help elsewhere before I call again.
I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8 with 4 GB of RAM.
Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Another expirience is, when I try to open directly from Photoshop any other image, Photoshop ignores the XMP and opens the original file without any modification.
That's normal if the raw files were originally edited in Lightroom. Lightroom stores all edits in the catalog, not the xmp sidecar. You can set Lightroom to write to xmp as well, but that slows it down a little and so it's off by default. The Lightroom shortcut ctrl/cmd+S will also save to xmp.
I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
That's related to the above, and also normal if you go the other way - edit in ACR and then move to Lightroom. It'll then be in xmp, but not the Lightroom catalog.
As for the missing on-screen image, that's a common video driver bug (although I suppose other causes are possible). For Windows you can download updated drivers directly from the manufacturer's website, but that's not possible with Mac. You'll have to wait for Apple to fix it.

  • CS3 Suddenly Won't Open Images

I've been using CS3 forever with few problems. All of the sudden, today it quit opening images. The program loads and opens without any problem, but I can't open any images. I have rebooted about 5 times and disconnected all plug-in equipment (ipod, printer, etc.) Can anyone tell me how to fix this??
I found a thread on this topic in the Mac forum, but it hasn't helped me. The problem there seemed to be images on a disk, but the images I'm trying to open are on my harddrive. VERY FRUSTRATING! Thanks in advance for any help!!

hit file> open. then hit ESC. then try to open again.

  • Elements won't open when trying to edit from Lightroom

I was trying to move two photos from Lightroom to Elements to edit.  I click on the photos, tell it to edit in Elements and it goes thru the process, says complete, but Elements will not open????  I recently changed the default editor to CS5 with the alternate as Elements.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

Oops, answered my own question.  Seems when I set up preferences, I goofed and somehow didn't get the correct app.  Sorry

I cannot get Photo Elements 11 to open. It installs OK but keeps asking me to to accept the licensing. I keep pressing the "Accept" button but it makes no difference. I have spent 6 hours trying to open this software but nothing works. I paid for this software.
