PS Enterprise web analytics

Does PS Enterprise Portal has web analytics feature of its own? If not, can Omniture SiteAnalystics tool be used for tracking usage of PS enterprise Portal?
What are other possibilties for tracking web usage of Enterpise Portal?

Hi JBlash,
Have you tried if it could help with adding the permission suggested by Stacy.

  • SharePoint 2010 Web Analytics showing user Display Name and Account Name from the same user

    Hi!
Since July, 16th 2012 the Web Analytics Daily Unique Visitors reports started to show almost the double of visitors we used to have on our Web Application. Here are some of the data (I intentionally deleted the weekend data):
    10/7/2012 2.497
    11/7/2012 2.723
    12/7/2012 2.722
    13/7/2012 2.699
    16/7/2012 5.055
    17/7/2012 4.963
    18/7/2012 4.954
    19/7/2012 4.998
    20/7/2012 4.965
    23/7/2012 5.117
    24/7/2012 5.012
    25/7/2012 5.071
As you may notice the data jumped from around 2.700 unique visitors to around 5.000 unique visitors. As the number of permissioned users remains constant it is pretty odd. I also checked the Number of Page Views report and see no change on its behavior.
The number of page views remained constant.
So I went to look the Top Visitors report and understand why the visitors number almost doubled. The analytics started to count the users Display Name and Account name as two different visitors with a different number of page views. Let me show you an example
from yesterday (July, 25th) Top Visitors report:
    #     Visitor                  Page Views    %
    1    Cinthia XXXXXXXXXX    359        0,55%
    5    Giselle XXXXXXXXXX     143        0,22%
    7    Aline XXXXXXXXXX       138        0,21%
    15  nt\cmazevedo              111        0,17%
    60  nt\gbsantana                 69        0,11%
    73  nt\aglsiqueira                 65        0,10%
"Cinthia" and the account "nt\cmazevedo" are the same person. The same is applied to "Giselle" / "nt\gbsantana" and "Aline" / "nt\aglsiqueira".
As I stated this is an example from July, 25th. If I checked the same report from a period before July, 16th I can only see the users Display Name as "Visitors". No account name is displayed or counted as a different visitor.
    About the environment:
We have two SharePoint 2010 farms: a "corporate" and a "enterprise". The corporate farm contains four web servers and a central administration servers with publishing services. The enterprise farm contains two servers running User Profile Services, Search
Services and some others. Our main version is the SP1 with June/2011 Cumulative Update with a few more hotfixes applied.
This behavior on analytics is affecting all web applications (we have more than 20) installed on this farm and my company Support team said that no change were made on SharePoint on the weekend the problem started.
Does anyone have any tip about what is going on?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, Manas!
First of all thanks for your interest on this issue but I don't think it is related to the User Profile or the Active Directory.
I checked both records and there was no change on the Display Names. All the users have "full names" as display names (first + middle + last name) and not logins as SharePoint is displaying on this report.
But I did a test yesterday and checked the results today confirming that just the access been made using a specific server are causing this. Explaining it better:
I have four web servers on my farm named from P01 to P04. Then I created this test script:
Step 1: Change local HOSTS file to point the web application on the server P01.
    Step 2: Access site "A"
    Step 3: Access site "B"
    Step 4: Close the browser.
Step 1: Change local HOSTS file to point the web application on the server P02.
    Step 2: Access site "C"
    Step 3: Access site "D"
    Step 4: Close the browser.
Step 1: Change local HOSTS file to point the web application on the server P03.
    Step 2: Access site "E"
    Step 3: Access site "F"
    Step 4: Close the browser.
Step 1: Change local HOSTS file to point the web application on the server P04.
    Step 2: Access site "G"
    Step 3: Access site "H"
    Step 4: Close the browser.
I asked three users to execute that script. The results: All access to the sites "C" and "D" were registered on Web Analytics with the user account name such as "nt\cmazevedo". All the other sites registered the user Display Name correctly such as "Cinthia
    XXXXXXXXXX".
With this test we could isolate the problem just on the server P02. It doesn't occur on the others. Now my support team is trying to find any configuration difference between this server and the other three that could point for the root cause.
I am also looking for some information regarding the service responsible for this task ("transform the account name into a display name") to understand why it doesn't work on one server and works on the others.
    Thanks!

  • SharePoint 2010 - Web Analytics - Failed Queries Report

    Hi,
I hope someone has an answer for this.  For some time, I've had SharePoint 2010 Enterprise edition installed and configured on a 3-tier (3 app, 3 wfe, 3 sql) setup.  While the Web Analytics reports have been running since day 1, the "Failed
Queries" report has never captured click-throughs.  This has been bugging me for a very long time... the "Failed Queries" report only ever shows either "100%" or "No results returned" in the "Percent Abandoned"
    column.
Has anyone ever had this issue?

I've enabled Verbose logging for Web Analytics and this is all I get (after performing a search and clicking on a result):

There doesn't seem to be any errors associated with this anomaly.  All the reports and data collection processes work.  The loggers capture all of the queries and whether there were results or not.  It just doesn't capture the user's click-through.

  • Site Web Analytics - no usage data being generated

    Hello all:
I have a SharePoint Foundation 2013 farm with 2 WFE - 1 Search Server and 1 DB server.  Search Service Application has been configured and functioning properly.  Usage and health Data Service Application has been created and started.  Usage
data collection is enabled and the "Analytics Usage" check box is checked.  Usage Data Import and Usage Data Processing timer jobs are scheduled and run successfully.
But, I still get the following error when I go to the Site Web Analytics "A web analytics report is not available for this site. Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the
usage data for this site has not been processed yet."
After doing some research, some folks have suggested the following which has to do with manually enabling the receivers via powershell - which I have done but still no report and same error.
    http://geekswithblogs.net/bjackett/archive/2013/08/26/powershell-script-to-workaround-no-data-in-sharepoint-2013-usage.aspx
Other Internet searches indicate that Web Analytics Reports is no longer available in SharePoint Foundation 2013:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/chandru/archive/2013/08/31/sharepoint-2013-web-analytics-report-where-is-it.aspx
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/63099/where-is-the-web-analytics-service-in-sharepoint-2013
There is also a TechNet question which indicate that "Microsoft Support confirmed me there's a bug in SharePoint Foundation 2013 in the Database that's going to be fixed in the June or August CU"
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/5372109c-8a6e-4d31-aa34-13b6cbde52cf/sharepoint-foundation-2013-web-analytics?forum=sharepointgeneral
But, there is no resolution if this bug has been addressed or not.
Therefore, I would really like to know what the deal is with this issue.  At the moment, I do not see any usage data being generated on any of the SharePoint Foundation servers in the farm.
    Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Rumi

    Hi Rumi,
Find a same issue internaly which says that the links Site Web Analytics is no longer valid in SharePoint 2013 Foundation due to the changes in analytics service application architecture, so you may need the SharPoint enterprise edition for using
    this feature.
    Symptom
    - Recently, we upgraded to SharePoint Foundation 2013 from WSS 3.0. In SharePoint Foundation 2013 sites, we see the option to click on Site Web Analytics reports but when we click on it, we get an error.
    - Clicking on Site Web Analytics reports from Site Settings \ Site Actions produces the error: “A web analytics report is not available for this site. Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been processed yet.”
    - We have ensured we have logging enabled (multiple categories)
    - Example Site: http://sharepoint2/sites/IT/Projects/SAP/_layouts/15/usageDetails.aspx
    Cause
    By Design
    1) The links in Site Settings from a site collection are no longer valid in SharePoint 2013 (due to change in Analytics Service application architecture changes...part of Search Service now)
    2) SharePoint Foundation 2013 does not support Usage Reporting Analytics
    Resolution
o Purchase a license for SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise, and build out a farm for it (the Foundation SKU cannot be upgraded in-place to Server).
o Once built up, you could copy your databases over and attach them to the Server farm and do your cutover.
o Going forward from there, you would be able to have access to the Usage reports.
Also as you have found that msdn blog with the explenation that it is not available in SPF 2013.

  • SharePoint 2010: Scheduled Web Analytics Reports workflow is not sending ANY email

    Hello,
I've a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise farm. I setup a Scheduled Web Analytics Reports workflow in a site collection with different web analytics reports options checked. So far I've not got ANY email. When I went to Site Workflows, I'm seeing that the workflow
is running. When I click on Completed status, I see below outcome in the Workflow History section:
"Email sent but reports with no data were not attached."
And I see below information in the Workflow History list:
"Attached are the daily Web Analytics reports for 1/7/2015 through 1/7/2015 for SharePoint Site Collection
http://server/team/site scheduled by workflow "SharePoint Site Web Analytics Reports". "
I am able to generate the reports manually by going to Site Collection Web Analytics Reports, but I want to schedule them. The problem is I'm not getting ANY email in my inbox. What am I missing here? Are the emails getting filtered by Outlook or workflow
is not sending emails at all?
Please help! This is getting frustrated.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

    Hi Ashish,
Based on your description, my understanding is that the email is not sent from the Scheduled Web Analytics Reports workflow.
I recommend to the things below:
    1. Check if the Outgoing email has been configured for the web application where you run the Scheduled Web Analytics Reports workflow.
In Central Administration > Application management > Manage web applications > select the corresponding web application > click General Settings in the ribbon and select Outgoing E-mail.
    2. Make sure that your account has email address configured.
    Thanks,

  • SharePoint Foundation Site Web Analytics reports

    Hi,
I am currently attempting to get the Site Web Analytics reports to work in SharePoint Foundation.  However, there seems to be little available information regarding this.  What is necessary for this to display a report?  To start with, what
SharePoint & Windows services and SharePoint service applications need to be started?  We use SQL Authentication for the content database because all the databases are in a different domain.
Any information someone can shed would be helpful.
Currently, when I navigate to the page it states "A web analytics report is not available for this site.  Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been processed yet."  I have looked up this
information on the net, but nearly all information applies to SharePoint Server.  I need help setting this up with SharePoint Foundation.
    Thank you much.

    Hi Steven,
Ahhh, I had a feeling that was a problem.
I had similar issues after installing SP1 so I could have some of the new features, like the storage report back for sites, and deleted sites going into the recycle bin. However, I had read that I *had* to install the June 30 CU as well, which may have been
a mistake. Because after installing both and running a psconfigui, it made things as flaky as they were during the beta.
It took my good, stable, trustworthy and solid SPF install and made it unstable. Managed Accounts started acting weird, permissions were odd, BDC service crapped out, user code errors, the works. Bummed me out. I basically blew out the server, did a fresh
install and restored from a farm backup (actually a full then differential, gotta love scheduling backups). Mind you, I could afford to do that, and I simply don't mess around with bad updates.
(I also found a post that said that if you have SP1 installed, a common error is if you delete a list, then delete the site, you can restore the site from recycle bin, but the list that was deleted from that site earlier cannot be restored-- so to avoid/fix
that problem, install the August CU... it's always something...)
Do you have backups of your farm pre-updates, preferably both, but at least the CU? Maybe you can do a restore on a virtual machine to see if it fixes your issues?
Also, here's another question. After you installed SP1 and the August CU, did you do a psconfigUI.exe (or at the command line, psconfig.exe)? It might be good and bad that you didn't (if you didn't). The way to check to see if you didn't is check the database
statuses (review database status under Upgrade and Patch Management in Central Admin). The statuses will say that the databases can be/should be updated if you didn't run psconfig. That means that SharePoint has updated, but the databases in SQL haven't.
Maybe you can make a copy of those databases, and try to attach those databases to a pre-update (sp1 and CU) SharePoint Foundation server to see if web analytics work there again. Although, if I am understanding correctly, some changes can occur on databases
during updates, but they're not complete til psconfig is run. But hey, it's worth a shot.
Or you can use psconfigui.exe (or psconfig.exe if you want to use the command line) to update the databases and see if that fixes the problem.
I'm sorry again about your issues if they are update related. It is so frustrating to think you are trying to stay up to date on your server, being a good admin, and instead it breaks important things without apology or way to fix it (since cumulative updates
cannot be uninstalled, but it is really difficult and potentially expensive to have to fully identical farms running side by side for testing).CA Callahan | Author: Mastering Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 and Mastering Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 | Community Launch Leader |

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Web Analytics

    Problem:
I am using SharePoint Foundations 2013 (no patches) and trying to get Web Analytics working but running into difficulty. The error I am getting is the dreaded, "A web analytics report
is not available for this site. Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been processed yet.", when I click on Site Settings -> Site Web analytics reports
    Items completed:
Enabled Site Usage and data collection in Central Admin.
Logs are full of data in the hive
I can see the data in dbo.requestusage in the WSS logging database.
Possible problem is that Web Analytics has been deprecated in SharePoint 2013 however why would Microsoft have Web analytics link if it was deprecated.
    Question:
How can I get Web Analytics to show data or has it been completely removed from SharePoint Foundations 2013 and the link is just there for frustration?
    Jay

    We’re having the same Problem.
According to the following links, “Usage Analytics” and “Usage Reporting and Logging” are
    available in SharePoint Foundation 2013:

    http://blog.blksthl.com/2013/01/14/sharepoint-2013-feature-comparison-chart-all-editions/
    Are they wrong?
I don’t mean the search related Reports (Most Popular Items), I mean the very simple Reports like
Number of Page Views, Number of Unique Visitors, Number of Referrers, Top Pages/Visitors/Referrers/Browsers (URL: /_layouts/15/usageDetails.aspx)

  • SharePoint 2010 web analytics not working - not all web requests hitting the logging database

Hi there, I have 2 windows 2008 web front end servers, 1 windows 2008 application server and 2 clustered windows 2008, SQL Server 2008 SP2 clustered servers in my farm.
I am having trouble getting Web Analytics configured and googled for days and followed everything I have found but still no luck.  The problem is that the logging database is only logging requests to Central admin URL only but if I hit any other
site in my farm it doesn't log in the database.  Hence why I am not getting any reports in the front end.
These are also missing from the ULS logs too.  Only central admin entries in the logs.
    Anyone seen this before?
    Thanks

    Hi CharlieBoy,
Please enable the verbose ULS log for category "Web Analytics Services category", then see if there are more related ULS log message appearing (may need to wait a day).
Also check the following 2 articles about troubleshooting the web analytics issue, which should be helpful.

  • SharePoint 2010 web analytics not working

Hello guys -I have setup a  sharepoint farm, 1 app, 2 wfe (windows server 2008 r2) and sql server 2008 r2 DB. All service applications are functioning except web analytics. I have deleted and recreated again but still have no effect. It is creating
    usage files.
interestingly Central admin site collection web analytics are working but when i check in a web application site collection web analytics report i have the below message. Not sure what I am missing. Can any one help me how to trace the issue:
There is no data available for this report. Here are some possible reasons: (1) Web Analytics has not been enabled long enough to generate data; (2) There is insufficient data to generate this report; (3) Data logging required for this report might
not be enabled; (4) Data aggregation might not be enabled at the level required for this report
    Appreciate your help.

    Yes, they are also Started.
To make sure - I have checked off and re enabled usage data collection. Restarted the above services. And also re run the timer job "Web Analytics Trigger Workflows Timer Job

  • SharePoint 2010 Web Analytics

    Good Morning,
i need to know where sharepoint gets the usernames for the web analytics reports (for example "top visitors"). I know there is a complex sequence of timer jobs to generate the reports. Does anybody know if the username is imported via the iislogs
(there is a field cs-username) or is it independently collected and directly written to the usage-files?
    Best regards
    Daniel

Good morning, i verified your assumption in my test environment. You're right - Web analytics colltects user data independently from the iis logs (and the selected iis log fields). Anybody knows if there are issues regarding Microsoft Support when manipulating
user name values (e. g. replacing the username) in the Web Analytics Reporting DB? Best regards Daniel

cols are working fine. I'm still looking for other differences between the site cols.
Also, if I go into Central Admin > View web analytics reports > choose that web application, and go to Top Pages i can see stats for both /sites/2007/ and /sites/2010/ so the analytics are being captured for all site collections, I just can't access
the reports on the /sites/2010/ site collection due to the error above.

  • Web Analytics for SharePoint 2010 Issue

    Hi Guys
I've provisioned Web Analytics in our SharePoint 2010 farm.  But I am not getting any figures in the reports.  Just all zeros.  The Web Analytics Service & Proxy are running, the staging & reporting databases appear to be populated
& there are .USAGE files being generated.  I have restarted services & rebooted all servers in the farm.
    Message is:
There is no data available for this report. Here are some possible reasons: (1) Web Analytics has not been enabled long enough to generate data; (2) There is insufficient data to generate this report; (3) Data logging required for this report might not be
enabled; (4) Data aggregation might not be enabled at the level required for this report.
    I have looked at:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5fdd162a-72f2-4146-a3a7-925b86bc085e/sharepoint-2010-web-analytics-not-working?forum=sharepointadminprevious
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint_strategery/archive/2012/03/16/troubleshooting-sharepoint-2010-web-analytics.aspx
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi Darren,
After you have created the Web Analytics Service Application you will have to start two services for populating the data. Go to Central Administration –> System Settings -> Manage service on server. Start the following two services:
    1. Web Analytics Data Processing Service
    2. Web Analytics Web Service
Choose which events you want to log
Once the services are started go to Central Administration –> Monitoring –> Configure Web Analytics and Health Data Collection and set the appropriate logging, you’ll want to make sure you’re logging following:
    1. Page Requests
    2. Search Query Usage and so on
Associate the Service Application with the Web App
    1. You also want to make sure that your Service Application is associated with your Web Application, so go to Central Admin –> Manage Web applications
    2. Highlight the web application you want and click “Service Connections” in the ribbon bar.
    3. Make sure the Web Analytics Service Application is associated with the web app
It is recommended when using a multiple server farm to start these service on multiple servers.
After you have performed these steps you can use the Web Analytics reporting. It can take one day before you can view any results. This because the data has to be populated.
Note: i am assuming that you have already created "State Service" service application which will generate charts.

  • Sharepoint web analytics does not show any data

    Hello,
We installed Sharepoint Web Analytics some days ago (separated application pool).
    Installation completed successfully.
Search works fine and returns expected results.
But reports still don't show any data :
Data Last Updated: 15.08.2014 02:00:16 There is no data available for this report. Here are some possible reasons: (1) Web Analytics has not been enabled long enough to generate data; (2)
There is insufficient data to generate this report; (3) Data logging required for this report might not be enabled; (4) Data aggregation might not be enabled at the level required for this report.
    What I tried :
connect to website using different users (admin user included)
checked that needed services on server are started (especially analytics services)
restart services Web Analytics Data Processing Service and
    Web Analytics Web Service
checked that all services applications are started (WSS_UsageApplication status was
stopped so I started it using Sharepoint 2010 Management Shell)
checked service application associations (especially if Analytics Service Application Proxy is checked)
manual execution of jobs (Web Analytics Trigger Workflows Timer Job, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Import, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing)
    manual start of incremental crawling
    restart IIS
checked scope of data logging (especially if Enable usage data collection and
Enable health data collection are checked)
checked that the .usage file are generated correctly on the disk
checked in the Logging database (WSS_UsageApplication) that the
RequestUsage view contains data collected from the .usage files
checked that data is successfully extracted from the logging database into the staging database (LastLoggingExtractionTime)
checked that data was successfully copied from the staging database to the reporting database (LastDataCopyTime)
checked on the website side that Advanced Web Analytics feature is
    Active
    recreate web analytics application
checked for any message in ULS logs that could help... I only noticed that error :
The SharePoint Health Analyzer detected an error.  Drives are running out of free space.  Available drive space is less than twice the value of physical memory. Can it cause the problem ?
All appears to work fine but I can't see any data in the reports.
The thing is that Inventory data is collected successfully and I can see the related reports. Traffic and Search data are still empty.
Anything else I can try ?
    Thanks.

Yes I have granted application pool identity full control on the Web Analytics Service Application.
I also checked that Sharepoint 2010 timer service is started.
I can't see anything in the logs that could help, when accessing the reports. The only thing I noticed is this kind of log which occurs
regularly and seems to be an exception :
Enumerating all sites in SPWebApplication Name=SharePoint - 80.
    Site Enumeration Stack:
    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPSiteCollection.get_Count()
    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Taxonomy.UpdateHiddenListJobDefinition.Execute(Guid targetInstanceId)
at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerJobInvokeInternal.Invoke(SPJobDefinition jd, Guid targetInstanceId, Boolean isTimerService, Int32& result)
    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerJobInvoke.Invoke(TimerJobExecuteData& data, Int32& result)
Maybe it can be the cause ?
I have also cleaned the drive where .usage file are generated so the error "Drives are running out of free space.  Available drive space is less than twice the value of physical memory." does not appear anymore.

  • SharePoint 2013 site in 2010 mode - Web Analytics functionality?

We recently upgraded to SharePoint 2013 from SharePoint 2010.  Our main portal site is running in 2010 mode.  Are "Site Web Analytics reports" supported for 2013 sites running in 2010 mode?  After our upgrade, it appears that no
new data is showing in these Web Analytics reports, although we can see historic data from before the upgrade.
I know about the changes in these analytics reports in 2013. Note that I can see the new popularity trends and usage reports in 2013 sites located in the same site collection, but they are NOT running in 2010 mode.  My question is only about
2013 sites in 2010 mode and the ability to run web analytics reports of any kind to assess page popularity, document popularity, etc.
Any information would be helpful.  Thank you!

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know if the Site Web Analytics reports is supported in SharePoint 2013 sites running in SharePoint 2010 mode.
The Site Web Analytics reports is supported by Web Analytics Service Application in SharePoint 2010, but Web Analytics is no longer service application in SharePoint 2013 and analyses and reporting process incorporated to search service application. So if
we view the Site Web Analytics reports in SharePoint 2013 sites running in SharePoint 2010 mode, we will not be able to get the results.
    http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=250
I recommend to update the sites running in 2010 mode to SharePoint 2013, then you can get the web analytics reports from Popularity Trends and Most Popular Items.
