PS Import folder naming standards (whine)

Okay, this is a rant but...
Why doesn't Adobe adopt an import folder naming standards to be consistent across their programs?! I am picking on PSE since I have noticed their naming convention changes/options.
From PSE4 to 6 to 7, they changed a couple of options - to include the manner of which a date named folder is displayed.
LR2 uses "dashes" in the dates where PSE does not - why?
The dashes/no dashes mess with alphabetical folder sequencing...
Can't we just have a standard for this? Please?...whine complete...

  • Import - Folder naming options

I'd like to use a naming scheme for Folders, as can be used for filenames, while importing...
Eg something like /YYYY/YYYYMMDD_Custom_Text or YYMMDD_Caption. I like the ability to sort folders by capture date very much, but miss a bit of describing text beside it.
In an ideal world, this folder name would also be used in the backup, of course!
That'll make the "import from device" function 150% usable for me.
Thanks for all the good work!

  • Lightroom import folder naming - Folder Description Problem revisited

Cam2pc has a very flexible naming system for importing raw and jpg images from card reader to the workstation hard drive.  We have found Lightroom lacking in this area and so have continued to use cam2pc, however cam2pc is no longer supported, we will be upgrading Lightroom to v5 on a number of workstations and I would like to revisit this issue:  See this thread that I started 5 years ago.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/353920
Cam2pc uses today's date to fill everything automatically except that we key in a folder description, %P ( in the example below it would be "Knudson, Sara Graduation" and cam2pc will create the structure shown below automatically.)
The cam2pc template we created is this:
    J:\Pictures\Pictures %Y\%Y-%m %a\[%Y-%m-%d] %P
Because everything is done automatically there is no room for error.  With over a million pictures we don't like errors.  With over a million pictures managed like this, we want to find something that will do this just the same way cam2pc can.  Has Lightroom grown up enough to be able to do this?  (Note: image files are never renamed.  They are as they came out of the camera)
Here is the directory structure that the above template creates.  The "to order" folder is created later in the process by Lightroom or by ProSelect as part of our workflow.

You may wonder how we manage over a million pictures this way, but that is the topic for another discussion some other time.  I just want to replicate this folder creation as the images are downloaded from the card reader.  Breezesys Downloader Pro meets most of my requirements, but I hope LR itself is sufficient.

  • Importing .ISO files into SCVMM2012 R2 - Folder Naming Quirk

We've run into a folder naming issue in regards to importing .ISO's into the VMM Library. When specifying a folder to import the .ISO into, VMM adds %20 to the folder names where spaces are. Not a huge deal but wonder if anyone has a way around this without

is there anyway to stop iPhoto 9.6 creating a new unnamed album within a named album when I drag a new photo into the named album.  for example:  There is a album called Fred.  I have a new photo of Fred imported into the Last import Folder.  I wanted to drag it into the album called Fred but iPhoto creates a new unnamed album within Fred.
Any ideas please.  I am using Yosemite 10.1.1
    Many thanks Jaz Eilles

Sounds like you have a folder with an album named fred inside of it.  Folders can only hold other folders, albums, slideshows, etc. but not just photos.  So you must be sure to drop the photo directly onto the album titled fred that resides inside that folder otherwise it will create a new album.
So expand the folder so the fred album is visible and drop the new photo onto the album.

  • Have saved Bookmarks from my desktop Win XP on a USB stick in a folder named "Bookmarks" How to "import" these Bookmarks in my new new notebook wih Win7 Home Premium with Firefox?

First of all thank you for solving my installation of Firefox on my new notebook. I have successfully installed Firefox on that new PC.
Now I have another problem. I have successfully copied my Book marks from my desktop onto a USB stick in a folder named "Bookmarks" I am trying to 'import" the same Book marks in my Firefox on my new notebook. I cannot. I have tried various ways via "organise bookmarks" or "import" but I do not seem to be able to do it. Any suggestions?

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
Did you save (export) the bookmarks to an HTML file or did you create a JSON backup?<br />
A JSON backup needs to be restored and will replace all currently present bookmarks.<br />
An HTML backup is imported and those bookmarks are merged with the existing bookmarks.

  • How to set naming standards for SQL Developer

I am using SQL Developer version 3.0.04.
In the newly integrated and very useful Data Modeler, we can set preferences for the naming standards to be applied when creating logical and relational model objects ( primary keys, foreign keys, et cetera). I would like to know if there is a way to set naming standards for the relational objects we create in SQL Developer on existing tables ( ( primary keys, foreign keys, et cetera).
Any help in setting such preferences would be appreciated.

    Hi,
If you want to set up a diagram for an existing database, you can use File/Data Modeler/Import/Data Dictionary to import its definitions.
Alternatively you can open a Data Modeler Browser (using View/Data Modeler/Browser), expand the node for Design "Untitled_1",
expand the node for Relational Models, and select Show from the Right-click drop-down menu for "Relational_1" to create a Relational Model diagram.
You can then drag Tables from SQL Developer's Connections tree onto the diagram.
Once you have a Relational Model you can reverse engineer it to an Entity-Relationship model using the << button in the button bar
(or by selecting "Engineer to Logical Model" from the drop-down menu for the Relational Model).
Note that there is now a separate forum for SQL Developer Data Modeler topics: SQL Developer Data Modeler

  • Import folder structure. Incorrect date on folders.

I'm trying to import a bunch of jpg photos taken in 2006 and 2007 to my Aperture 3 library. I use a referenced library in my pictures folder and I would like the files to be copied to new folders named after the year, month and day they were taken. However, each time I try to import these photos some are placed in a folder named 2001, while some of the files actually end up in folders named after the right year. According to the meta data of the photos they are all taken in 2006 and 2007. I tried re-importing the same photos a couple of times and each time a different number of my photos end up in a folder named 2001. It's very annoying and I would be very grateful if someone could help me solve this issue!
    Anton

Hi Anton.  A possible work-around.  Import as you have been doing, then select all of the imported Images in Aperture and run "File→Relocate Masters ... " using the setting "Subfolder format:  Image Year/Month/Day".  I have started seeing similar failures to properly file Referenced Masters on import.  Re-filing them from within Aperture has put them all in the right Finder folders.
Please report back with what you find out.  I have no idea what is causing the problem.

  • Find photos by Folder name or Import Folder name into Metadata

In iPhoto, I can locate photos by folder name. Is this available in Aperture (Managed or Referenced)? From what I've seen, you can only search on metadata fields, none of which contain folder names.
If I cannot search on folder names, can Aperture import folder names into Metadata automatically. In other words, if I import a directory tree 2009Games, with subfolders Game-ABC, Game-DEF, etc.
Can Aperture insert the subfolder name into the photo's metadata? I know I can add the text manually, but I would like Aperture to import a top level folder like 2009Games, and add the subfolder directory name to each photo's metadata.
If that is not an option, how does someone migrate from folder organization to metadata searches without renaming every photo?

What project and folder naming structure do you intend to use in Aperture to manage your collection?
The inclusion of the file name in metadata for searching purposes seems to be redundant as you can always, if you really need to, see where a particular image is located on the hard disk by right clicking on it in Aperture and selecting "Show in Finder".

  • Import Folder Does Not Appear

I have just created a new user account on my Mac (because of a keychain issue that I couldn't resolve) and am trying to import the mailboxes over from my old user account. I moved all the mailboxes from within olduser/library/mail/mailboxes to newuser/public/dropbox. When I login as newuser I can see them there in the finder (with a red 'no access' sign). I open mail and import mailboxes from 'Mail for OSX' adn select the dropbox. I get a list of all the mailboxes (ticked). I click continue and get a message saying "You can find the imported mailboxes in a folder named "import" in the mailboxes list". But No such folder is to be seen.
    Any one have any suggestions?

    Hi Tom,
I think you've got an easy Fix here...
In the Finder, do a Get info on those/that Folder, then look at the bottom of that window for Ownership & Perissions, expand the Details triangle, unlock the Lock, then change the Owner to the New You with R&W privileges, hit the Apply to enclosed item... try to Import again!

  • Naming standards for reports in Business Objects?

    Dear colleagues,
I am about to start development of universes, queries and reports in Business Object for a client. Does anyone of you have any tips on naming standards for the reports? The source system that the dataware house is based on is a fund system. Often the name can be some letters and some numbers. Is there any logic behind this that I can follow?
    I will sign points!
    Kind regards
    Silje

    Hi Silje,
Naming convetions should really tie in with your own processes. So it hard to say there is one for all.
I generally create a report library. This is a simple list in Excel of the reports. It will contain the following
Report Id: A number that is unique to each report, e.g. 1000
Report Name: A short descriptive name, Monthly_Returns
Report Location: The folder path to the report
Report Description: A full descriptive name
Report Contact: The person to contact about the report, developer or support person
Report Owner: Business Owner of the report
In WebI I would then call the report 1000_Monthly_Returns. I generally use the folder name to point to the area, so in the case of funds this report would be in the Funds folder.
    Hope this helps

  • How to Unhide Import button in Standard Extension collection?

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to unhide Import button in standard extension collection "PROJECT SAVINGS" in project.
I have tried with script but it is not working.
    colln=doc.getExtensionCollection("PROJECT_SAVINGS");
    objectref = doc.getObjectReference();
    bean = colln.find(objectref);
    IapiDocumentLockManager.unlockAll(session,bean);
If anyone have achieved this requirement please share.
    Thanks for your support.
    Regards,
    Lava.

    Hi Lava,
The method which you are using is for extension collection, but project savings is a standard collection.
For the class Project in IAPI there is a method named getProjectSavings()
Your problem would be solved if you use the above mentioned method.
Please let me know if you need any assistance.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

  • 'AVCHD content' package instead of a 'Folder' named PRIVATE in Mountain Lion

'AVCHD content' package instead of a 'Folder' named PRIVATE in Mountain Lion prevents FCPX from recognising it as a Camera Archive thus can't import media.
Does anybody know how to work around this issue?
I know how to look inside the package, but seeing the contents does not help importing it into FCP X.

Karsten, I believe you are doing exactly the same steps, but see some kind of different names on the buttons. When I press Cmd+I, I get into the Camera Import dialog. I have to then press Open Archive... to import from a folder, that has a copy of SD card.
That is why I am calling it a Camera Archive.
Then I select the Card1 or Card2 folders that contain a copy. This is a great screen:
Card1 was copied while Mac OS was still 10.7, Card2 - after an upgrade to 10.8.1. Card1 imported into FCP X 10.0.5 flawlwssly, while Card2 gives me an error a screenshot of  which is higher in the thread.
As for Tom's request - I did exactly that. Except for Card1 will not show it's contents in the column view - I have to Ctrl+Click and select Show Package Contents to get inside.
Hopefully this clarifies the situation a bit more. I'm stuck with the project at the moment

  • Backup Folder naming

I'm having some trouble getting the "backup to" feature in the Import window to behave properly.
I would like the backup file structure to be the same on the backup drive as the primary drive, but as in Lightroom 1.X, it insists on dumping the backups into a folder named (today as an example)
"Imported on September 1, 2008". Is there a way around this? I was hoping that Lightroom 2.0 would fix this problem. Possibly it did, and I'm missing something?
    Thanks

Ok, so I have two Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat in that location's folder. One is in a separate folder called "corrupt catalogs." Assuming I don't want that one , I will just drag the other one into my pictures/lighroom (where the normal version resided before the restore)? I already put the one that was there into a separate folder in the same location to archive it jik.
