PS3 and linksys WRT54G. found a fix!!! please look

http://vibrantreality.wordpress.com/2007/10/27/ps3-and-linksys-wrt54g-the-solution/ not sure if it has been posted but it works!!! enjoy

Let me review my setup. I have a WRT54g Version2 Linksys Router. The Router firmware has been updated. I have two computers wired to the router and they work fine. I have a Linksys Media Center and a Laptop that work in a wireless environment and they work fine. The ISP is Comcast.
The PS3 is wired through a Linksys switch to the same Router. The switch is a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 8-Port Workgroup Switch EZXS88W ver 3.1. On the PS3 I have tried all the combinations of DNS that I can identify. The setting for MTU is at 1492 which matches the status shown on the Router screen. I have tried UpNp in both the Disabled and Enabled modes. I am currently using the DNS's that appear on the Status page of the Router.
On the Router I have set the IP address for the PS3 up as a static address in the DMZ as 192.168.1.2 UpNp is currently disabled. I have assigned ports to the static IP in the Gaming screen and enabled them..I have entered the DNS's numbers from the Status page on the Setup page for the Router as static IP DNS's.
If I connect the Laptop to the same wire that the PS3 is currently connected to, the laptop comes up fine on the Internet. The PS3 finds the IP address but continually gives me the DNS failed (80710102) error message. This is also true if I run the PS3 in a wireless environment.
Your assistance is greaty appreciated.

  • Successful DSL Setup With Westell 6100G and Linksys WRT54G Router

After a week of searching I finally figured out how to get DSL setup with my Linksys router.
All I could get out of the Westell > Linksys router configuration was DSL downloads limited to less than 0.2 Mbps.   No matter what I did on the router settings that was it.    I had a second eHome router that easily configured and achieved the 1.0 Mbps download speeds so that confirmed Verizon and the Westell modem were not the issue.
So what's wrong with the Linksys router configuration?    I had the Linksys WRT54G router Version 5.   Checking the firmware it was the original release of 1.0.0.   (See your routers instructions which can be downloaded from Linksys for how to check your firmware).   I downloaded the latest firmware version for this router model and version number.    Following the Linksys instructions I flashed the latest firmware 1.02.8.   Now I had an updated modem ready to be configured for DSL.
Assuming you already followed Verizons instructions to set the Westell modem to bridge mode setup your router to work with it.
Step 1: Go into the modem typing its address... Default 192.168.1.1   leave the ID blank and the default password is admin.
Step 2: Go to the Basic > Setup screen.
Step 3:  Select PPPoE and the screen menus will change
Step 4:  Enter your Verizon ID  (exclude @Verizon.net)
Step 5:  Enter your Verizon Password.
Step 6:  Go to the bottom of the screen and hit Save.   Wait and the router will indicate it was saved.
That's it.  All you need are the three entries above to get it working.   Turn off the PC, Router and Westell.   Turn on the Westell, then the router and then boot the PC.   It should work at this point.    I now get the full DSL speed for both downloads and uploads.
The bottom line....check you router, especially the older models for updated firmware before you give up on it.

Glad top see you found a configuration for your Westell and Linksys to function.  Thanks for posting resolution.

  • Airport Extreme and Linksys WRT54G v8 set up in WDS mode not working

Hi, I am trying to set up my Linksys WRT54g v8 router with DD-WRT v8.0.0.6 firmware as a WDS remote to my Airport Extreme Base Station set up as the WDS main, with WPA2 personal encryption, and it appears that they are talking to one another, but when I plug in a mac with ethernet to the Linksys, I can hit the linksys router to program it but it won't go out to the internet and gets a self-assigned IP.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Duane posted a list of known WDS compatible devices about 6 weeks ago and the Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS were shown as compatible, but not v5. Your post indicates that you have v8, so this may not be possible.

  • Router Linksys WRT54G not working. Please help!

My router stopped working yesterday. I suddenly had no internet connection, and I initially thought it was due to my internet provider. So I contacted them and after some tests, I connected my cable modem to the ethernet adapter of my PC, restarted the modem, and the internet connection was restored. So, the problem was in my router.
I'm trying again to connect the router (cable modem --> router ---> ethernet card in my pc) but it doesn't work.
I also uninstalled my firewall in case it was somewhat blocking the router, and updated its firmware to the last version. But still, it doesn'taccess the internet. I can access the router configuration via http protocol as usual but I have no idea what else to do.
Could you please give me a hand?

Have you tried resetting the router after upgrading the firmware not then, Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button..Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable..Now reconfigure your router...
Go to Setup Page of Linksys and Under setup tab, Click on Mac Address Clone,Check enable and click on "Clone Your PC's Mac " and Click on Save setting. Now turnoff computer, router and the cable modem....wait for 1 minute and turn-on the modem, wait for 2 minute and then turn ON the router and restart the computer..It should work now !!!!

  • My New MacBook and Linksys WRT54G v3

*So, I purchased a brand new MacBook from the Apple Store today. I took it home thinking it would connect right to my existing home network and I'd be in business in no time. After all, I was replacing an old PC and had a major project to complete toward my MBA. Needless to say, I wouldn't be losing sleep and posting here if everything had gone according to plan.*
    *Here's the deal:*
My integrated AirPort Extreme Wireless (802.11n) connects to my router, but doesn't hold the connection. I load a web page for a few seconds, and then the connection is useless. The signal strength, even though I'm right in front of the antenna, appears weaker than when I connect to another network in the area.
    *Here's what I've done:*
    - All updates for my MacBook have been downloaded and installed; OS X 10.5.5 is running
    - Linksys firmware has been updated to the latest version 4.21.1
    - Reset my modem and router numerous times
    - Contacted the useless chat support on linksys.com
    *Here's what I've learned:*
    - I can connect to other networks without issue.
    - My router works fine with the integrated ethernet port (I didn't buy a notebook to be tied to a
    cable, did I?)
    - Buying a $249 protection plan that doesn't let you call them after 6:00 Pacific makes that plan
    pretty much useless
I'm hoping someone can help me. I really don't want to be stuck to a cable or stealing someone else's connection when I'm paying for my own. I've read lots of different posts on this, and it seems I'm certainly not alone. I didn't anticipate any problems since my ex-fiancee (yeah, I know) bought a new MacBook less than a year ago and it worked flawlessly with the WRT54G... in fact, its setup was impressive and much, much easier than getting it going with my Dell+Linksys PC card.

    My suggestion:
4.21.1 firmware is not flawless, I've seen it do some pretty flaky things. But you might try this:
    1. Reset the Wireless Security on your 54G, set it to WPA2 Personal, then input exactly a 10 character password. If the password you are using isn't 10 characters long, input something on the end of it to make it 10 in length like 1234 etc.
    2. Go into the 54G Advanced Wireless settings, look for Beacon Interval, change it from 100ms to like 15 ms (think the range is 1 to 255 or something).
    3. Change the packet threshold from 2346 to 2306.
    4. Change the other packet threshold from 2347 to 2307.
    5. And shorten the Beacon interval from default 100.
    6. Hit save on the linksys and let it reboot. Sometimes you may need to disconnect power from the 54G so it reboots correctly (flashing power LED means it didn't boot correctly, it should be solid).
    7. Check the wireless channel in use, try using a different channel, try 3 or 7 or 11 if it is on 6. If you know there are other routers in your area, change the name of your router from default linksys to 'private' or something else.
When you set up your macbook airport, get really close to the router within a few feet would be good. If you renamed your router's SSID to private, input the network name in Airport settings, and be sure to add that network to your preferred network list (under Network, Advanced, Airport, add your network to the list and it will prompt you for the password, input it twice if it asks, that only means it is adding it to keychain access.app.
One other thing you can check, under System Preferences, select Energy Saver, select Options, check the box for "Wake for Ethernet Administrator Access", enabling this will keep it from putting the Airport card to sleep to save energy.
Once you establish a connection with the Linksys remain close and surf the net to test it out, then move away from the router to where you lose the connection, if that happens, check your system.log. To do that,
    1. Click on the Apple icon, click on "About this Mac",
    2. Click More Info, select Software on left panel, click on Logs, click on system.log in upper right,
    3. Scroll down to the very end of the log, it should report the error seen by airport. If it displays airport: MAC Auth succeeded, that means it authenticated with the linksys. Trying a different channel on the router sometimes helps with connection.

  • Bellsouth and Linksys WRT54G Router

    Hey,
I am able to connect to the internet through my modem and can connect to my router from my computer but when I hook the modem up to the router I am unable to get to the internet. I have done all the steps from Linksys and still no results. Does anyone know the exact settings that the router needs in order to get it to work?i.e Do I need a domain name or anything like that? Any help is apprecitated.
    Thanks

There are a few settings you need to understand about having the router connect to Internet through the DSL modem. The router has to first establish connectivity with your DSL service by logging on. This is accomplished via the following settings.
    1. Login Type should be set to: PPPoE
    2. The username/password for your DSL service, must be entered into the router. This is the same uname/pwd that you use when you connect the PC to Internet thru the DSL modem. It should be something like (xxxxxxx)@bellsouth.net for username and then the password.
    3. With Bellsouth there is no need for Host name or Domain name. You can give the router a unique name per your preference.
And finally, In order for your PC to now communicate with Internet via the router, You must setup the router as the DHCP server.
    4. Set the router for DHCP server (enable). The router will become the defacto IP address provider on your network and will isolate you from the direct connection that the DSL modem normally provided.
With these settings your router should log into your DSL service thru the modem and you should be up and running.

  • Airlink101 and Linksys WRT54g

Because of a time clock change, I now have to use an Airlink101 AR504 Router off of my DSL instead of the WRT54g that i've been using for months.  Is there any way to cascade the WRT54G off of the AR504 so that i can still have teh wireless network with internet?
    Thanks in advance

You can follow this link , though the link gives you steps on connecting two linksys routers you can still follow the link...
However port forwarding is not used in this case...

  • Huawei MT882 and linksys WRT54G V2

    Hi!
Since a month ago I have a Huawei modem MT882.
Since then I had to upload the firmware for two times, the router always stops working, i.e., I can't connect to the internet.
Does any one know if there are any incompatibilities between the linksys router and the Huawei modem?
My router firmware is the last available (v4.21.1)

    Hi,
My ISP is CLIX from Portugal.
This router has already some years and it worked fine for about 3 years. But in the last year I changed for a ADSL ISP and it was when the problems started. After chatting with Linksys experts we got the right configuration and it was working fine. However I had a lot of problems with the ISP provider and I changed again. One more time the router started to loose the internet connection.
I tried a lot of configurations but doesn't matter what I do, it just restarts working fine when I program the firmware again.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Droid X WiFi and Linksys Wrt54G

    Hi,
I just got the DX yesterday and it recognizes my home network. However it does not obtain an IP address. I checked the wifi capability on unsecured networks and it works fine. ANy ideas on why the dx and my router aren't talking to each other.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Maybe try going into your MANAGE NETWORKS and select your connection, then click on "FORGET" so that it is removed. (I'd also "FORGET" any other ones that are in your list, just to get a clean start. Then re-add it, including the Key ....   Also, make sure you'redoing this in close proximity to the Router just to make sure you're getting a solid and strong WiFi signal.   Just a thought. If after re-entering your KEY and it still doesn't Acquire, I'd definitely start looking at the Router configuration.

Screen Message on P.C. "File "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
What is this and how can it be fixed, please?

Problem solved by doing the following:
Open PC/Mac and search for iTunes Library.
From the list, select the most recent version of iTunes Library. Save this to a folder.
    Delete iTunes from your computer.
    Install latest version of iTunes.
When I opened the new version of iTunes, everything was there as before.
I didn't need to import the saved version of iTunes Library. Maybe this happens automatically?????

  • How to hook up a Linksys WRT54G to Motorola NVG589. PLEASE HELP!

Hello,  I have recently switched over to AT&T Uverse and I am loving it. One thing I miss is having extra ethernet ports to plug in my desktop computer and my Xbox 360. When the Uverse technician came in, he installed a Motorola NVG589 modem that also has a built in wireless router. He also installed a VAP2500 as a receiver for 2 wireless TV boxes. The VAP2500 plugs into the back of the Motorola NVG589. 3 other TV boxes are plugged into the back as well.  My dilemma is the fact that all of the ports are being taken up. I need at least 2 more ethernet ports free so I can hook up my Xbox 360 (my model doesn't have built in wifi) and my desktop computer as well.  I told the technician this when he installed the system and he told me to go on ebay and buy 2 cheap splitters and split 2 TV boxes that are coming into the NVG589. I did so. It didn't work out. I called up AT&T and the guy over the phone said that was the worst thing I could've done. He told be I should buy an ethernet switch.  I had my Linksys WRT54G (Version 6) router laying around at the time and realized that it had a built in ethernet switch. I want to get this to also function as another Wifi hotspot because I have an old PowerMac G4 downstairs that won't connect to the NVG589 for some reason (it says connection timeout). I am guessing that the wifi card in the system may be too old to connect to the modern NVG589.  So, I need the 2 extra ethernet ports and another Wifi hotspot from this setup. I have tried multiple things to get this to work.  The closest way I could get it to work was when I plugged an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the WRT54G to port on the back of the NVG589. I then plugged the TV box ethernet cable I had to disconnect into the second LAN port on the WRT54G as well as plugging my Xbox 360 into the 3rd LAN port and my computer into the 4th LAN port. This worked great for the TV box and the Xbox 360. However, the computer's ethernet connection ran very slow and the WIfi from the WRT54G was very slow as well. The Wifi from the NVG589 was slow too.  I unhooked that setup and put it back to what it was beforehand.  Is there anyone that knows of a flawless way of setting this up?  Any articles someone can link me to? I've heard of bridging the NVG589...would that help me? How exactly would I do that? Please HELP. I have attached pics. On the back of the NVG589 - green ethernet is the DSL cable, both white ethernet cables along with the black one are TV boxes and the yellow ethernet cable is the VAP 2500.  Thanks!

This will perform a "factory" reset. When the Linksys is fully rebooted, log in to the Linksys. Do not configure the "Internet Connection Type" on the Linksys. Navigate to the "Wireless" section on the Linksys and configure the wireless. Do not use the same SSID (wireless network name) that the NVG589 uses. Save changes. Navigate to the "LAN" configuration on the Linksys and set the routers address to 192.168.1.1 and disable the DHCP Server. Save changes. This step will kick you out of the router. Power down your computer and the Linksys, run an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the NVG589 to a LAN port on the Linksys, then power up the Linksys, and when it's fully rebooted, power up your computer. You should be good to go at this point. You will want to individually configure your wireless devices to use either the wireless network from the NVG or the wireless network from the Linksys. Otherwise they make keep jumping back and forth between the two, which will degrade performance for that device. You may still notice a slight to moderate performance drop for the wireless on both the NVG and the Linksys because they will be competing for the same wireless airspace along with the VAP2500.

  • I downloaded iOS 5 and then I found my Apps were missing. So then I looked it up on the web then found the fix. The only problem is that half the apps I downloaded are gone. One of my favorite, Angry Birds, which I bought is also gone.

I need help! I downloaded iOS 5 on my iPod 3rd generation after backing EVERYTHIGN up 4 times and I think I might have synced it. But just forget that I synced anything. So then when I tried to Restore Back-up it DID NOT work. This was my first time using iTunes, and I ALWAYS download throught the APP store. So then I found the fix online. I actually found 3 different ways:
A). Go to the App store and then go to 'UPDATES' then go to Purchased and download everything you need.
    - This didn't work for halfmy apps.
B). Go to the iTunes store, go to File > Sync iPod then wait a LOOOOOOOOONG time.
    - This also did not work, and not just in the case of my missing apps, all my apps were just sitting there. Nothing happened. I deemed this as USELESS.
C). I have a premonition that this option should work, but I can't find it. I have to go to the SUMMARY tab under device settings then click restore. The onlyproblem is, I CAN'T FIND IT! It probably should work.
BOTTOM LINE: Some of my favorite Apps such as Angy Birds and Madden NFL '11 are now gone. I have no idea what happened. And my backed-up iPod on iTunes only has like 14 apps out of 100sof Apps.
