PS3 - Changing NAT Type

Hi all,
I have a PS3 and it's not allowing me to connect to certain people or even use the communication feature on it. So currently I have Frontier internet with a Gigaset modem, a WRT160Nv3 Linksys router. Currently my NAT type is 3 and I hope to change it to 1 if possible, 2 would be okay as well.
Thanks for your time.

Well here is my Internet IP Address: 192.168.254.1
I'm not sure what to do with that.
Also after looking at the site you gave me, I'm still confused at what to do. This is an e-mail that I got from Sony.
Thank you for contacting Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) about changing your NAT type. Below are the TCP and UDP (firewall) port numbers you will need to connect online with PlayStation® products.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure to enable these TCP/UDP ports in BOTH directions and are entered into the TCP and UDP port fields in your router / modem. Contact your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer for proper instructions on how to input port information for your network.
SCEA Game Servers
All games published by SCEA (first-party) may use the following ports for communication with SCEA (first-party) game servers:
TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070
PlayStation®Network
TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223
UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Regards,
Jason F.
And I don't know what to do with those ports or where to enter them.

A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time. Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa. It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.
Gaming consoles such as Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3, and Wii™ often encounter NAT related issues resulting to poor gaming experience. This problem is resolved by checking the settings on your router which contribute to NAT issues.
This is due to the built-in firewall of the router and to get past this, you will need to open ports on the router. You may do this by either doing Port Forwarding or Port Triggering. Once the ports are successfully opened, the NAT Type issue will change to Open or Moderate thus, making the gaming console work.
Here is the link which resolve the issue: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=2902de6218ed4dc1a4c595595ca1f60a_Resolving_NAT_Typ...

  • How to change nat type 3 to nat type 2 for Plastation 4?

how to change nat type 3 to nat type 2 for adaptation 4? i am havng a complicated time with this im'm just trying to play online and been at it fotr 3 days i have tried about everuyhing n portforwarding.com i have a Cisco Linksys E1000

Hi ceasar14. I actually found some steps (from a source) that worked for me. I'm not sure if it will work for you. Here are the steps:
    1. Get the MAC address of your PS3. To find your MAC address simply go to
Settings > System Settings > System Information
    2. Assign a static IP address on your PS3.
    3. Access your router's user interface to open a few ports.
    4. Under Applications and Gaming > Port Range Forwarding, open the following ports:
    TCP: 80, 443, 5223
    UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658
    5. Once this is done, powercycle your PS3 and the router.
    6. Run a connection test and check if it is now on NAT2.
    Good luck.

  • Time capsule, PS3 in NAT type 3

    Hi Everyone,
I understand this has been asked many times on many forums, so my apologies here.
I have a BT Home Hub 2.0 (wireless disabled) as my modem, hooked up to my time capsule which is acting as the router (WIFI). I have my PS3 connected wirelessly to the network configured with my Time Capsule.
Playing GT5, i cant seem to get my PS3 off NAT type 3.
Can anybody please advise me on how to solve this??
    Many thanks!

I have a BT Home Hub 2.0 (wireless disabled)
Even through you disabled the wireless function, the Home Hub is very likely still providing NAT services for the entire network.
my time capsule which is acting as the router (WIFI
If you have the Time Capsule configured as a router...as you say....then it is also providing NAT services.
You may have an error known as Double NAT on your network. To check and see if that might be the case....
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
Are there any messages there about NAT?

  • Changing NAT type from moderate to open for PS3 on...

    Hello,
    Pretty simple really.
I want to be able to change my NAT type from Moderate to Open whilst playing FIFA 12 on the PS3.
I am using a BT Home Hub 2. I have read various posts about Port Forwarding and DMZ but what is the method that will open the NAT type indefinitely. I have read that it can only be altered temporarily due to the Home Hub updating it's settings periodically and re-enabling the firewall.
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

  • Trying to change NAT type to open from strict

I'm trying to change my NAT type on my PS3 from strict to open. My router is a WRT120N and I'm using cable internet. Please help me, and sort of dumb it down so I can understand what you're saying. Thanks a ton!!

i think strict NAT type is a double-NAT setup. it would really depend on your modem. what's the brand and model of your modem? does it have routing capabilities? what IP address does it give off?

  • Need help changing NAT type (3 -- 2)

    Dear,
I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this is misplaced
Before I bought my router the NAT type was 2 which was fine. Using this router it's NAT type 3 which makes online matchmaking difficult (PS3).
I would like to change it to NAT type 2 but I don't have any experience with ports and changing settings in a router. So if anyone of you could help me out that would be great!
    Router:
    Model number: WRT120N
    Version: 1.0

Try upgrading the firmware of the router first. for instructions, try this

I am completely stumped. I am not a technical person but I'll explain the best I can. I have an airport express.. that's connected to my westell wirespeed modem which gives wireless internet to all my computers at my house.
i also play xbox. i use the internet sharing feature on one of our mac mini's to connect to the xbox. however, the nat type is moderate. i have no idea how to change this to open. please help cuz its frustrating because i pay 60 dollars a year and i do not get the most of my subscription. for example, i can't join party's or join some games..
and also, i read online that if i put my ip address to the address bar, you could change your nat type. but the problem is, every ip address i put into the address bar, nothing comes up. in my airport utility, it says my ip address is like 10.0.1.1.
i am so confused. please help!!!!!!!!!

  • Can't change NAT type from moderate to open.

Hi, this is my first post.
As the title says, my NAT is always moderate in CoD BO2 on the PC, when i was with Virgin cable it was always open.
It being moderate is causing me disconnection problems, which is a huge PITA in gaming.
Things i have tried in order to correct the problem :
    1. I have forwarded all of the correct ports.
    2. I have turned off the homehub's firewall.
    3. I have given the PC a static IP address (in the correct range, i've worked in IT for over 20 years now).
    4. I have turned off the Windows firewall (which was allowing BO2 anyway).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • PS3 Nat Type 3 Cant change Using Wrt120n

    i
have listed all ports udp and tcp i have disabled UPnP i have changed mtu to 1364 and tried 1365. i have rebooted both router and modem. still no success. Cant seem to change nat type 3 to nat type 2. plz does anyone know of anything else i can do. i am use a WRT120n wireless router

I think you have one of those modem/router combos, and that you're cascading into a wrt120n. Does your modem/router combo have wireless or multiple ports?
    I have a suggestion:
Since your wrt120n's ip address is 192.168.1.1, try using the DMZ on your modem and give it to your router's address. Then forward the ports from your router to your PS3. I hope that will help. Also set the PS3 to automatically acquire it's IP address and DNS server.

  • How to set NAT Type in Airport Express for PS3

I just replaced my existing WiFi router with a Airport Express, using the same log in information, and all other devices includin iPhone and laptop can get on line w/o problem, but my PS3 can not seems to log in for on-line game, and when I check the internet connection settings, it show NAT type failed due to timeout error. I have read some articles about the need to change NAT Type from 3 to 2 or something like that, how can not find in Airport Utilities on how to open up NAT to change its type? anyone can help? Appreciate.

Unfortunately there are no specific NAT settings on the AirPort routers to change the NAT type. On the AirPorts you either have NAT enabled or disabled. Other options would be to use either a DMZ or open specific ports on the AirPort's NAT firewall to allow your PS3 to gain full access to  PS3's on-line gaming service.

  • How to get nat type 1 with airport extreme and ps3?

I use airport extreme as my default router. I have my ps3 connected to a separate airport in a different room. I can only get nat type 2 and want to get nat type 1 as I can barely connect to any hosts online.

NAT type 1 is when you connect your PS3 directly to your modem with no router in between.  The problem with this is that there will be no way to share your internet connections with other devices.  NAT type 2 is where you have a router in between your modem and your PS3, and NAT type 3 is where you have some or all needed ports blocked which is where you would have issues.
NAT type 2 is a correct way for your PS3 to work, and your wireless connection strength may be the reason for connection issues.

  • WRT120N How to open NAT type PS3 !!!!

    Hi i have a WRT120N router.
it goes alrite in connection wise but for my ps3 my nat type is strict which wont let me join
in some of my mate's partie's or host a game. And i REALLY wanna fix it by opening my nat
i've bascially tried everything portforwading but when you save it when portforwarding, it doesn't save like it look's like on the
video's i have seen on youtube. Uhm iv'e done that DMZ thing which also didnt work.
iv'e bascially done everything on youtube and other site's
Im just wondering if it's just the router. Or just the way i have it all setup because my router is setup in
a different room with the computer which is hooked up with the modem and my ps3 is in my room which is a different room and is just connected threw WiFi my connection on the ps3 is wireless obviously. Should i buy a new router or just ring a linksey person ? .it's getting to that point.
And yeah i just wanna get it to open HELP PLEASE !!!!!
    GriMxDRiFT3r.

Hi - I think you are wanting to connect your PS3 with an internet cable and go wired , rather than wireless.  Going online means being connected to the internet which you have done already only your PS3 and you router have done this wirelessly.
You need to connect your router to your PS3 with a Cat 5 cable - standard ethernet cable, then look at your network settings on your PS3 - set these to a wired connection and choose the auto and default settings through the next pages and see how that works.  It was really straighforward when I set mine up.
    Hope this helps

  • PS4 NAT TYPE CHANGE

    Hi All,
New to the forum so a massive hello from me
Was hoping you helpful bunch could help me out.
I am living with my Fiancees mum as we are saving for a house, we was on EE fiber optic and we had open Nat type when playing Call of Duty Advance Warefare.
We changed to BT yesterday and when we put on COD we realised that NAT type had changed from Open to Moderate. It made trying to find a game abit slower. SPeed was good though.
COuld someone help me in working out what i need to do to have this open?
I know the type of NAT the PS4 gives were both type 2 on EE and BT but this is specifically for Call of Duty. For some reason it is showing as moderate and i want to get this back to OPEN.
    Many thanks,
    Mark

I switched from Wi-Fi to wired on my Virgin Media Superhub and it changed from 2 to 3, I had to manually set up a NAT 2 connection. I had to set a static IP address then forward ports for PSN, you may also have to forward ports for any online games you play. All this is done through the Superhub or your router settings page, accessed via a PC and entering 192.168.0.1 (these numbers can vary with routers though. The last number could be different on your router) into a browser address bar.
This is a list of ports to forward for PSN: TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223 UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, I believe that's all of them but I could be wrong.
Google your router make and model and search for changing NAT type, it should give you some idea of how to do it. Once you change and save settings on your router reboot it, I had to do that before my PS4 would recognise the NAT type change.I don't have any problem on wired connection. But when i connect ps4 to internet with wi-fi hotspot from my phon my nat change to type 3. I want to know this nat type (3) is ok for online game and connect to psn and store?!
