PS3 Won't Turn Off Normally - Only Forced Shutdown Works

Hi team, I've had this problem for a few months now and have absolutely no idea how to fix it. If I try to shut down my PS3 by normal means (holding the power button for a couple of seconds or via the controller) it never actually shuts off, the light just continuously blinks green showing a black screen on the TV whilst the fan etc is still working full-pelt. I thought maybe it was syncing data online or something, and have tried leaving it in this state for over 24 hours a couple of times but it never ends. The only way I can shut down my PS3 these days is by holding the power button for 10 seconds (ie a forced shutdown). I really don't want to have to replace the console as this is the only issue with it and it'll take me forever to find and re-download + update all my games again. One big consequence of this problem is that I can't turn PS+ features such as syncing game saves on as my PS3 never turns off after doing so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 60GB PS3 FAT - Ugraded with a 1TB drive (Samsung/Seagate 1TB 2.5 inch 5400RPM SATA II Hard Disk)

Yep, tried all of them apart from 'Restore PS3 System' - in fact, I have a feeling that I did try that option when I first discovered the problem. I get a black screen screen after selecting option 3 and have to do the usual forced shutdown - when I restart the PS3 it says the file system is corrupt and it restores it. Problem still presists. I figured out what the issue is though - I had a hard drive connected via a usb switch, after removing my USB devices one by one I'm pretty confident that's what caused it. Thanks for the advice!

  • Light of nano won't turn off - normal??

    Hi @ all!
    My problem:
While connected to my Computer and also connected to iTunes, my iPod nano doesn't turn off its light as the 2nd gen nano did. It just stays lit on, saying 'Connected' and the 'disconnect from iTunes first' stuff as it should (i hope it should ^^)
    Is that normal?
Shouldn't it turn off the light, as it's kinda waste of Electricity and it might have to load the battery longer as its lit all the time.
Also I think that it's not very good for the display to show the same thing with light on for let's say 3 hours.
Could anyone help me? Is it normal that the light stays turned on while connected to iTunes on 3rd gen iPod nanos?
    Thanx in advance
    elFlexor

It stays on untill you "eject" it. After that you can leave it plugged in and the light will turn off like normal. You can let it charge as is, or you can turn the nano off. Either way it will charge with the light off.

  • IBook Won't turn Off.

Yes, Werid, But My iBook G3 won't turn off. When i Go and click on the apple To "log off, Restart, Sleep Or Shut down" The menu closes and The computer Stays on and does not shut down. I then force Quit all the Programs Runing, And tryed to shut down again, No shut down.
I have to Press and hold the power button And hold it til' it shuts down or Remove the Battery.
I know this is not good for the Hard Drive so I run Safe Boot Regerly, But I really what it to shut down again.
    Can anyone help me?
    iBook G3, 128MB RAM, 30GB HD,12"in.,800MHz, Dual usb, 10.3.9

Do you have to use Force Quit to quit applications? Can you quit applications normally (from the Menu Bar contextual drop-down or using Command + q)?
Do you still have your OS 9 startup volume? If you're not sure, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and see if it shows up as a startup option. If it does, select it as your startup disk and shut down. Then start up in OS 9 and see if you are able to shut down normally from there. (This eliminates the possibility of a hardware problem if you are able to shut down normally in OS 9.)
If you no longer have the OS 9 installation, try creating a new user (System Preferences > Accounts). Log out and log in as the new user. Is the new user able to shut down normally?

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR won't turn off, just restarts

K7N2 Delta ILSR won't turn off, just restarts.  Every time I click on "Turn off computer" in Windows XP, it shuts down, but restarts again. Could this be OS related, or perhaps Bios related. My other machine, almost identical to this one, except that the other machine has BIOS rev 7.6 and this one 7.2.

PSUs seem to be yr favorite subject, but I'm afraid this time it's software. I experimented some more as the problem only occured after installing the Nvidia drivers. Comparing the system settings in the device manager before installing drivers and after installing them, reveils that the problem shows up when AGP HOST TO PCI BRIDGE is installed. When killing this item the PC shuts off properly. Unfortunately when turning back on, Windows automatically reinstalls the PCI bridge and I have the problem again. LOOKS LIKE A MSI SOFTWARE PROBLEM !
By the way I have a PCI graphics board and not AGP in the failing PC (the good one has AGP graphics).
    Now what?

  • I accidentally dropped macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!

I accidentally dropped my friend's macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!
I tried to turn it off and it didn't work... and I held on to the shift key too and it still doesn't work..
    Please help me..

Accidental damage is not covered under Apple warranty.  And it seems there is much accidental damage.  Only a Genius Bar tech looking at it can tell how much it will cost to repair.
Cost to repair will be high, I suspect (though Genius Bar will confirm/deny.
There is no gentle way to say this sir/ma'am ... someone will need to pay for your friend's MBA repairs.

  • I reset my 3Gs, but now all I get is the Apple icon. It won't turn off or anything. Is it bricked? What is bricked? How do I fix it please. Can anyone help me please.

Hi, I've just appear to have deleted my iphone and now all I'm getting is the Apple icon.
It won't turn off or anything. I have tried holding in the off button and home button together,
but the icon goes and comes back again. It won't connect to Itunes, as the device is not showing
up. Can anyone HELP PLEASE. I think I need to reload Iphone back onto the device.

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. If you can't turn it off, please continue. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then you can restore your phone:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

Also tried turning phone off and back on, syncing, but LS remains defiantly on!

  • Airport won't turn off

Hi there, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. My airport has been giving me trouble on and off. It's fine right now but sometimes it will just stop working. I won't be able to connect to any networks even though if I click on the airport icon I can see a few of them there. If I try to click on one it hangs for a bit and then doesn't connect. If I try to click on the airport icon and click turn airport off it does the same thing, hangs for a bit but then won't turn off.
If I try to go to network preferences it also hangs but this won't stop unless I got and force it to quit.
Finally, if I try to shutdown or restart the computer it starts to shutdown, gets to the point where all i see is my desktop but then hangs until I have to hold down the power button to turn it off.
When I turn it back on it seems to work fine but then a while later might randomly do the same thing again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello dathascome. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like you might have a corrupted configuration file or driver with your OS X installation. I suggest the first thing to try is to create a new user account; log off of your existing account, and then, log back on with the new account.
    Did this correct the problem?

  • My Ipad 2 won`t turn off anymore

    Hello,
    my Ipad 2 64GB Wi-Fi won`t turn off anymore. IOS 5.1.1
When i slide the button it shuts down only to restart itself after few seconds.
Tried allready 10 seconds Power/Home button for reboot. Made a restore like new trough iTunes also.
It would turn off only when pluged in charger, or attached to PC.
    Any ideas ?
Btw. i`m in Europe now, is  Apple warranty international or? ( Ipad bought in US)
    Thanks!

Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.
You must see the Apple logo.

  • IPod classic won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock; what's up? will it hurt to leave it on all the time?

I bought a new iPod Classic and it won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock. Is this normal and will it hurt the iPod if i leave it on all the time?

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.
    Apple - Batteries
I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan

  • IPod video won't turn off

I have only had my 30G Video iPod since November and i have taken really godo care of it. Suddenly i take it out charge in my computer, eject and it won't turn off. If i hold pause or wait, it simply wont turn off, but everything elese works. Any advice? Is there a setting i messed up to make it do that or is it simply broken?
30G Black Video iPod   Mac OS 9.0.x

Make sure you don't have the hold switch on first.
Then hold down the Menu and Centre buttons at the same time until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. This will reset your iPod, it will not damage the contents of your iPod.

A few people have reported problems with the hand gestures since IOS 8. It's not normal, I have don't have the problem on my iPad 4.  I doubt it's a major problem but if it happens regularly I'd have it checked out by the Genius bar at the Apple Store.

  • HT6114 Camera Won't Turn Off

Just downloaded the OS X Mavericks v10.9.2 update and now the camera won't turn off!  (green light is on constantly) and FaceTime still doesn't not connect. FaceTime says camera is not available, even though now the green light is on all the time. Any Suggestions?  Have restarted twice with no luck.

This procedure may show which program is using the camera. It makes no changes, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
