PS3 WRT54G Problem

Ever since I've had my PS3 out WRT54G wireless router has been acting really strange.
Whenever I try to connect to my PS3 using a wireless connection it either tells me i have a connection error, or connects and then the router just shutsdown/restarts =S and i can't connect again.
Anyone got any suggestions as to how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I have version 7.0

Well said FLATLINE!  Although you can connect a PS3 with a wireless adaptor it is much slower then hard wiring it to the router.  However, if that is not a option then you will have to use the wireless.
Try upgrading the routers firmware for that model/version and see if you still have the errors or shutting down on you.

• Another PS3/WRT54GS problem

Hi all, After a year with no problems, suddenly my PS3 can no longer locate my Linksys router. Absolutely nothing has changed between the time it worked and now. I've turned it on/off/reset it several times. The EasyAdvisor seems to indicate everything is ok. The only thing that has happened was we had a power outage. This was right when we got home from vacation so I don't know if the problem began before or after the outage. Any thoughts on why, out of the blue, the PS3 could no longer find the access point? Thanks

• BT Infinity Hub and PS3 connection problem.

I have done a bit of research and it seems the PS3 doesnt support 802.11N? But others say this shouldnt make a difference as it is backward compatible? Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

• Windows Home Server & WRT54G Problem - WHS

I am trying to set up my new Windows home server to work on my (otherwise working fine)home network. WHS is supposed to be super easy. Yes, and the MS tooth fairy...
Anyway, my WHS will not connect to the network or apparently even the WRT54G router. WHS has not yet connected to the internet either thru my broadband router. When I open up the Server Console on the server (other networked PC's can't see the server yet), go to settings to trouble shoot, I am getting a message that the router is not configured & no router IP address is found. I have my router set up for auto DHCP & pretty much everything else on default. Double checked the cables, they are fine. Somehow WHS will not connect to my WRT54G (V. 6, w/latest firmware update 1.025!)
Server console page gives error message at "Verifying that your router supports UPnP standards", "Verifying that your router is accepting web site connections" and Verifying that your router is accepting Remote Access connections". Yet, when I log into router at 192.168.1.1/Manage.htm it says UPnP is enabled. The rest of the networked computers work just fine. But apparently I have trouble between WHS and WRT54G. Is this a UPnP issue? If so, how resolve? MS's web site is really weak on WHS troubleshooting.
ANY ADVISE?????

I think I know your problem: on your WHS machine, go start>right click "My computer">properties>hardware>device manager... I'm guessing you have a yellow question mark sign over your ethernet controller, and no listing for "Network adapters". If this is the case, then basically the WHS install didn't recognise you LAN, so it can't communicate with your network and hence isn't being assigned an IP by your DHCP router. To solve, open you computer, and read off the motherboard product id and manufacturer. Go to their website, find the downloads section, find your motherboard id (i'm assuming you're using the onboard LAN) and download the LAN driver. Move the files over to the desktop of your WHS with a USB key or something, extract and run the installer. Restart, and if we're onto the right thing, then voila! I hope this is it... -Dave

• WRT54G Problem

I've got a WRT54G v2, however, I've got some problem of it when due with ftp service. I've set the ftp service at my wireless router and it works fine. However, after a period of time, the ftp service is unable to connect, even I reset the router or import the saved settings. It only works again when I reset the router to factory default and re-configure the whole settings. I've tired to upgrade the firmware to latest version but the problem still exists. Please help.

Lawrence, I've suddenly got the same problem with mine and it's a v 3.1 of yours!  Only I left my installation CD in my winter home.  I forgot my security code and everything.  So I have to stay tied to my cable connection.  What a drag!
I hope someone can tell us how to get the darn thing working. I even tried making another wireless connection to no avail.

• Wrt54g problem getting to microsoft sites...

I have a wireless wrt54g and cannot get to some microsoft sites such as updates and downloads.  When I disconnect my wireless router and go directly from the modem, no problem.  I am running 3 vista machines and one xp machine and they all have the exact same problem.  No microsoft updates and downloads when using the wireless router -  no problem directly from the modem. Does this make sense to anybody?

I am running WRT54G Version 8 and everything is running fine on my three computers (1 XP, 1 Vista, and 1 Win 98SE) plust 1 wireless print server.  I tried Microsoft updates and can connect with out any problem when connected to router wirelessly.  Google.ca or .com works also.
If you have not changed any settings in your router, everything should work ok. Microsoft updates for XP & Vista came out this week.

• WRT54G Problem- SSID not showing in list & router not sending correct IP address

Everthing was humming along.  Comcast Internet = fine.  WRT54G router, several XP Pro/SP 3 computers, 1 Powerbook + wireless printers. etc = fine.  PCs find network SSID and auto-connect without fail.
Then, Comcast Internet down.  Reboot everything. Network back up.  Computers then get wrong IP Address or do not see SSID.  (No config changes on computers.)
So I:
1.  Reinstall WRT54G firmware (v8) - no change.
2.  Install new fresh WRT54G - using CD to install  - no change
3.  Update firmware in router used in #2 - no change
4.  Complete reset cycle and reinstall -no change.
5.  Repeat same reset with original router -no change
6.  Using static IP address/default gate way/DNS address - PC finds and connects to SSID but does not access Internet.
Result - no computers find SSID.  (SSID is hidden.) Don't find it when it's not hidden either.
Ethernet cabled PC works just fine.  Gets correct IP Address & Internet  access is fine.
Cable modem = Motorola Surf Board.  No physical locations of any omponent has changed.
Is it possible that both WRT54G's are not working?
Is it somehow a Comcast problem?
Should I try some other router settings?
Many thanks!

Thanks.  These are great instructions and quite useful for setup.  Unfortunately, my problems seemed much more complex.
In the end, I redidi all the networking from scratch from the router through all the connected devices.  Finally got things back up.  I don't know how, but the Comcast failure seemed to corrupt lots of the settings even if they all looked OK.

• WRT54GS Problems

I'm having a few problems with my WRT54GS router. I'm sure the problem isn't with my DSL modem, since when I tried my connection without the router, it worked perfectly. Anyway, the problem is that there are times that the router would suddenly get disconnected, then it gives me a really hard time before I can reconnect. I keep getting this error:
CLICK HERE FOR IMAGE, since the big screen shot was messing up the forum width
My router is also using Firmware Version: v7.50.0. There's a 7.50.2 version of the firmware. Would this solve my problem?
Thank you for your time.

It seems to be more or less the same problem as I have. See my post

• WRT54GS problem with bittorrent

I have a WRT54GS, flashed to firmware v 1.52.8. It's been working fine up until a recent move. I set it up after I moved into my new place and got service connected (Comcast) and that's when I noticed the problem. I have a PC connected via CAT5 through the router and use the wireless access point for my laptop. In the past, my average download speed on torrents with decent seeds have been around 1.5 - 3 MB/s (yes, that's MBps not mbps... I know the difference) Recently however they are topping out at anywhere from 150 KBps to 250 KBps. Uploads are not affected... they seem to be averaging about the same. Additionally, while a torrent is downloading, web browsing/email/etc is not functional: everything times out in spite of QoS settings I have in place on the router to avoid these issues.
Initially I assumed it was my ISP throttling my connection--Comcast has been known to do this in the past, after all--but after testing at Glasnost reported no throttling by my ISP, I tested with the PC hooked directly to my cable modem. Result: sustained download speeds of 2.5 - 3 MB/s over the course of two test downloads (Ubuntu install ISO). During these downloads, I was able to browse to wesites without getting timeout errors like I do when behind the router. This pretty conclusively points to the WRT54GS as the source of my problem, so I'm wondering if anyone else has any suggestions for resolving this other than tossing the router and getting a new one.
EDIT: I should mention that I only torrent on the PC so this is not a wireless issue.

That seems to have done the trick. IDK what caused it to stop working, but after the factory reset and putting my wireless settings back in again (plus port forwarding for my games and bittorrent) I'm able to stream video from Netflix while downloading a torrent at a reasonable speed and still click on web links and have them load. Thanks for the suggestion!

• WRT54G Problem Connecting

Recently tried to change security from WEP to WPA. Also tried to disable SSID visibility so that others can't choose and use my network connection. Now I can't acquire a wireless network connection. Do I need to uninstall and re-install setup all over again. Here's additional information: WRT54G is version 6. I have Windows XP Home edition. I changed login information from factory defaults.

Don't mess with uninstalling and reinstalling setup.
Make sure your network has a unique SSID.  Do not use "linksys".
Set your "SSID broadcast" back to "enabled".  You do not need to worry about broadcasting your SSID when you are using WPA encryption.  Many computers have trouble connecting to the router when SSID broadcast is disabled.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your computer software firewall, and see if that helps.
If you still have trouble, then state what kind of WPA is the router set to:
WPA with TKIP?
WPA with AES?
WPA enterprise?  (you should not be using this.  Choose WPA-personal instead.)
If you are using "WPA with AES", this equals WPA2.   To use this, Windows XP requires a patch.  You can get the patch by upgrading Windows XP to SP3.
If you still have trouble, do the following:
In the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  Your computer should connect automatically to the router (it may take 1-2 minutes).  If not, be sure to temporarily turn off your computer software firewall, then try again to connect.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.

Everytime i connect to it i get an ip of 169.I tried everything... and then i thought to myself, i messed up my router. I get the exact same problem =\..... anybody has any idea... ive tried calling linksys but i was on hold for like 40 minutes and i gave up..... can anybody help?

If you have an extra ethernet cable you may reconfigure the router manually. For step-by-step instructions you may check it out from homesupport.cisco.com. You may also download the setup wizard from this website.
