PS4 Party Chat NAT Type Issues

Anyone else completely irritated and annoyed by the inability to party chat because of NAT Type? This is a ridiculous error I thought they'd fix in the next patch, turns out not. I have been unable to chat with anyone because of my NAT Type. I can play online and chat online just fine but party chat doesn't work. My NAT is Type 2. I don't want to hear I need to set up a static IP and DMZ blah blah blah. That stuff is way to complicated and shouldn't be necessary if I or any PS user should want to chat in a party. I had absolutely no issues on my xbox 360 chatting in a party and I'm on the same modem and internet router as it was.  I bought a PS4 to play and chat with friends and so far I haven't been able to chat with my friends at all. It's very irritating and annoying and I would like PSN to do something about it. A simple patch or anything to fix it, instead of being lazy and telling their 13 year old customers they have to set up static IP's and other ridiculous stuff. Please comment if you are having the same issues and hopefully Sony or PSN will see this and do something about it. I paid 400$ for a machine that requires me to hack into my own router in order to chat... Ridiculous.
Party Chat NAT Type Issues on PS4
This issue has been reported to the network team who are investigating the cause of the problem. As a temporary fix you can normally fix the NAT type error by on or more users leaving and re-joining the party.

I draw your attention to the last paragraph where it states a NAT Type 2 connection means its connected correctly & optimal for gaming
PS4 NAT Types:
In the network settings of the PS4, it uses 3 different NAT types to classify how the PS4 is connected to the Internet:
Type 1: The PS4 is sitting directly on the Internet with a public IP address. This setup doesn’t require NAT or inbound port forwarding and is used in scenarios where the PS4 is the only device wanting to use the Internet connection. This isn’t that common as most users share their Internet connection with other devices in their home.
Type 2: This is the most common and ideal type where the PS4 is sitting behind a RG that is performing NAT. The PS4 will have a private IP address which is translated to a private or public IP address by the RG.
Type 3: This usually implies you have a problem in the way the PS4 is accessing the Internet. This may be caused by a firewall or port restrictions. This isn’t ideal and will result in a sub-optimal gaming experience.
The difference between a Type 2 and Type 1 NAT is usually physical and can’t be changed by settings alone. If you have a Type 2 or higher NAT type then you are connected correctly and can have an optimal gaming experience.

A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time. Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa. It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.
Gaming consoles such as Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3, and Wii™ often encounter NAT related issues resulting to poor gaming experience. This problem is resolved by checking the settings on your router which contribute to NAT issues.
This is due to the built-in firewall of the router and to get past this, you will need to open ports on the router. You may do this by either doing Port Forwarding or Port Triggering. Once the ports are successfully opened, the NAT Type issue will change to Open or Moderate thus, making the gaming console work.

the nat type for xbox 360 and ps3, what is it when you set the router up out of the box? are the nat types open moderate or strict

Hi there. It actually depends if the gaming consoles ports are not blocked by your ISP. Moderate NAT type limits your connection playing online games, Strict does not allow you any connection at all while Open allows you to play with everyone online. Have you had a router before with Open NAT on the gaming consoles? Try to check without the router by going directly to the modem and see if your NAT type is open or strict or moderate. If ever modem is fine and it is the router not working right you can port forward ports on the router. I found these usual ports online, for XBOX live:TCP and UDP ports:  80-88, 3074-3074, 4267-4269. For PS380, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.

  • Type 2 NAT Type on PS4

I've port forwarded the specified ports, placed the PS4 in the DMZ zone, even tried disabling the firewall but for some reason my NAT type is still moderate and cannot get it open for some reason.
I've switched to the new HH5 and even still I face the same issue, so I have reverted back due to some compatibility issues with the new HH some devices in my household were having.
    Any ideas guys?

    Hi,
I did portforward correctly and i was getting continous open NAT untill now. For some reason it's gone back to Moderate.
Its a bug that has plagued all home hubs i have owned.
with the hh2 and 3 i could fix it by power cycling the hub.
The home hub 5 though was a pain because the port mappings are stored in flash memory and power cycling didnt work.
I had to regularly do factory resets but that didnt always work.
the hh5 is a piece of junk and more trouble than its worth.
I bought my own router and now have permantly open NATS on my ps4.
Basiclally BT dont care about gamers. If they did they would make sure their hubs worked flawlessly on games consoles without having to jump through hoops to get and keep the NATs open.
My HH5 gives me an open NAT using my PS4.
Just put the PS4 in a DMZ after setting it up with a static IP address and then make sure it is also static in the network settings in the HH5

  • Issue with Nat type 3 on PS3

I'm having issues trying to connect my PS3 properly to the internet, i keep getting a NAT type 3 which restricts certain chat features. To start off I have the WRT54G firmware version 2.00.8
So, I have been trying to follow multiple tutorials on getting a NAT2 on my Playstation3. I have opened the correct ports, enabled UPnP, DMZ'd it, and gave it a static IP and i STILL get NAT 2
    any suggestions?

yea I called my ISP yesterday and explained my problem they said that they do not block any ports at all so it cant be from them anyway because i used to have a nat 2 then i reset my router which made it back to nat 3 so i know that it is possible o get it its just the router's screwing something up. I contacted link sys via phone and i explained my problem to the lady, she said she doesn't have enough authority to go into my router's settings but she can transfer me to that department, i say SURE but then she interrupts and tell me theres a fine of like $25 just for talking to them im like "yea, ill go look and see if theres a solution anywhere else"
so im definately not getting any help from link sys at the moment unless one of you guys wanna give me 25 bucks.
please though, is there anything that may be incorrect? i know it has something to do with the router but even though i tried everything everyone has said it still wont work please help!!!

  • NAT type strict and moderate on two PS4

Hello, I'm having a problem trying to allow both my ps4's in my household to have a Open NAT type or even Moderate. One is usually moderate, while the other is always strict. It really depends on which console connects first. Any way I can get step by step instructions on how to make both open NAT types?

Since noone else has replied can I ask for some cllarity on the issue.
Firstly what type of Hub is it.
You have changed your Xbox by the sounds of it to use a fixed IP address, always my preference for such devices although a lot of people use uPNP instead.
You mention after doing that that "the router woldn't change the setting".
Have you made sure that the fixed IP address you have assigned is NOT part of the DHCP pool that the router uses, there should be a setting somewhere on it's admin screen to say what range it is using for example 192.168.1.50 thru 192.168.1.99 would be one example of a range.
A fixed IP address should NOT be in the dynamic IP address range ideally but must still be in the same subnet as the router, so you may need to change the last set of digits on the xbox.

  • PS4 NAT TYPE CHANGE

    Hi All,
New to the forum so a massive hello from me
Was hoping you helpful bunch could help me out.
I am living with my Fiancees mum as we are saving for a house, we was on EE fiber optic and we had open Nat type when playing Call of Duty Advance Warefare.
We changed to BT yesterday and when we put on COD we realised that NAT type had changed from Open to Moderate. It made trying to find a game abit slower. SPeed was good though.
COuld someone help me in working out what i need to do to have this open?
I know the type of NAT the PS4 gives were both type 2 on EE and BT but this is specifically for Call of Duty. For some reason it is showing as moderate and i want to get this back to OPEN.
    Many thanks,
    Mark

I switched from Wi-Fi to wired on my Virgin Media Superhub and it changed from 2 to 3, I had to manually set up a NAT 2 connection. I had to set a static IP address then forward ports for PSN, you may also have to forward ports for any online games you play. All this is done through the Superhub or your router settings page, accessed via a PC and entering 192.168.0.1 (these numbers can vary with routers though. The last number could be different on your router) into a browser address bar.
This is a list of ports to forward for PSN: TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223 UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, I believe that's all of them but I could be wrong.
Google your router make and model and search for changing NAT type, it should give you some idea of how to do it. Once you change and save settings on your router reboot it, I had to do that before my PS4 would recognise the NAT type change.I don't have any problem on wired connection. But when i connect ps4 to internet with wi-fi hotspot from my phon my nat change to type 3. I want to know this nat type (3) is ok for online game and connect to psn and store?!

  • Party chat keeps kicking me out.

Like the title states, i constantly get dropped from a chat party, even my own. Somedays it only happens a couple of times, other days, like today it's beyond laughable.Every time i rejoin i can hardly finish a sentence before i get the messege "you left the party". I tried hooking up the cable directly to my modem, let my brother do alot of portforwarding and that stuff, even reinitilized my ps4 (wich with al the reinstalling and downloading of games and their updates, takes insanely long to be up and running again). All the obvious things linke nat type etc. are all like they should be. i'm getting realy annoyed by this, definitely googling lots of other complaints that reach back to january and nowhere did i see a solution that worked, if there even was any... Is there any fix for this?

I am experiencing this problem know!! Did you find any solution to this problem??

  • WRT54G with PS3 NAT TYPE 3 needs to be changed!

    Hi all,
I've been trying to change my Nat type from a 3 to a 2. I have a ps3 20gig (sadly) that is directly connected to my laptop (wired). My laptop has wifi and I'm able
to play games online. The only problem is that I'm not able to invite friends into my party or host any games for Call of Duty 4. My ps3 is set at Nat Type 3
and I think that's the problem here. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and UPnP is enabled on it. My laptop has UPnP enabled as well. I've tried everything I could
find, but there's not much info for someone who has a setup like me.
I setup a static ip for the ps3 on my laptop, and the only ip that will work is 192.168.0.10.

Your WRT54G is connected to another router (maybe your modem?) which has IP address 192.168.2.1. To get that working you have to configure port forwarding on 192.168.2.1 and on the WRT54G at 192.168.1.1. UPnP won't help you here because UPnP will only configure the WRT but not the router to which the WRT is connected to. Thus you have to set explicit port forwardings (don't know which ones the PS3 requires).
Otherwise consider setting up the WRT as access point only like this.
Or find out how to set the modem into bridge mode (i.e. turn off the router in the modem). After that you have to configure the router for your internet connection (usually PPPoE for DSL or DHCP for cable). This way you have the WRT54G directly connected to the internet.

  • NAT Type 2 but still strict in MW3 - Help please!!

So here's my dilemma. I've been searching for 2 days now how to get an open NAT type in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
I've got a BT HomeHub 2. Simply connecting wirelessly to the network grants me a NAT Type 2, which I understand is supposed to be moderate, and therefore open to a certain extent ... But in-game is says that I have a Strict NAT type and won't let me connect to friends' parties.
I've forwarded all sorts of ports as instructed to do so by various online blogs, that didn't work, neither did portforwarding's website.
I've tried using a static ip and enabling DMZ on the hub, but that wouldn't even allow my PS3 to connect to the router
I've even tried using PPPoE, entering some random's email and password into the boxes as I saw on youtube.
BT's solution is a load of rubbish ... "Try resetting the modem and select static ip in the HH settings".
Has anyone else come across this problem of NAT type 2 being strict on MW3, and have you managed to overcome it??
I'm not a total gimp when it comes to fiddling with computer settings but I can't work this one out.
    Thanks

    Exact same problem here,
Was the above successful and has it remained open?
I was able to quick fix my Nat type by simply loading the multiplayer on cod4 which must open up the required ports but even that is more complicated with the game not loading now at all unless you disable your router (another kettle of fish).
The strict Nat doesn't seem to be as bad lag wise so that's something the developers have fixed with the last MW3 update, however the lack of ability to connect to your friends with a million dollar multiplayer such as MW3 is quite frankly unacceptable and completely defeats the object of such games.
I've tried forwarding ports and all the other methods to no avail, I've yet to try MW2 too see if that will quick fix the problem.
But please let us know if your forwarded ports are still working with an open nat, and if you can join / hear friends.
    Thanks in advance,
Otherwise I'm going to try some other routers as I have plenty of friends with different set ups playing fine with open Nat, that being said there are just as many with different providers and routers suffering the same dilemma, this is certainly not just a home hub issue although if I get another router to work I will certainly enjoy throwing the hh out the window...

  • How to get nat type 1 with airport extreme and ps3?

I use airport extreme as my default router. I have my ps3 connected to a separate airport in a different room. I can only get nat type 2 and want to get nat type 1 as I can barely connect to any hosts online.

NAT type 1 is when you connect your PS3 directly to your modem with no router in between.  The problem with this is that there will be no way to share your internet connections with other devices.  NAT type 2 is where you have a router in between your modem and your PS3, and NAT type 3 is where you have some or all needed ports blocked which is where you would have issues.
NAT type 2 is a correct way for your PS3 to work, and your wireless connection strength may be the reason for connection issues.
