PS5 running sluggish adn saving files in windows shell common

I recently started working with PS5 and have been encountering some errors recently.
At first my files were being saved as PSD files, then all of a sudden they began to be saved as windows shell comer files. When I try to open them it says I need to find a program on the web to open photo.
I also am wondering about hte fact that it seems to take all my physical RAM memory when I have PS5 in use, I have 4GB of RAM and when I use the program I am at 91% + of memory usage. It is a 64 bit operating system and if needed to know it is a M450 processor at 2.4 GHz.
Seems that PS5 has really become sluggish since this problem with the way the file saves. When working in the program it freezes up temporary and takes a long time to resize a photo and other functions. I also have Perfect size and lightroom3. Not sure if this is needed for a helpful answer, but maybe. LOL

Generally speaking, .PSD is a good format to save your edits in because it's lossless and can maintain all your layers, channels, and other fancy Photoshop features.
You need to check the pixel count on saving as well. If you've used Perfect Resize to radically increase the pixel count of the image you're saving this could help explain some of the speed issues you're seeing. With most image work it's always good to keep the pixel dimensions in mind.
If you're using Windows 7 here's how to show the file extension:
1. Click the Start orb and type folder into the search box. When Folder Options comes up, click it.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Uncheck the [ ] Hide extensions for known file types box.
Now Explorer windows and File Open/Save dialogs will show you the file extension.
While you're editing Photoshop will normally gradually increase its memory use up to the limit you specify in Edit - Preferences - Performance, then hold onto it. This is by design.

I am having a problem with opening some files in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended (Version 12.1) and have Windows 7 64 bit SP1 OS.
I am trying to open a few templates I made in PhotoShop for a client and they worked fine when I used them 3 weeks ago. All were saved as .psd documents. Now when I go to open them they no longer have the PS icon (to show they would be opened by PhotoShop). When I try to open them I get "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I have had this problem once before but it is confusing to me because 2 of the other similar .psd files I saved at the same timeframe(separate elements for the temlate) are perfectly fine, only the ones I need do not want to open.
I checked file properties and it claims these files are now Windows Shell Common Dll files. Any ideas?

I guess you were able to open them in photoshop with open as.
In the future you should probably try to avoid using periods in the image file names other than for the file type extension.
You could use - or_ in place of the periods as in VotePedia Invoice 1_5_13 or VotePedia Invoice 1-5-13
Also, as Noel suggested, going into Control Panel>Appearace and Personalization>Folder Options>View
and unchecking Hide extensions for known file types will help as well.

Slow saving files in Windows 7

I have a new Windows 7 (Home Premium edition) 8 GB RAM. I have just recently installed CS4 Design Premium and I am experiencing extremely long delays when saving files to a USB external hard drive. I used the external hard drive on a Windows XP machine with 3.5 GB RAM and there were no delays saving files. Is this a known issue or is there a work around?

Where are you saving?WAV file?to Can?you check the available?memory?of?the storage location?
A 3 min WAV file?can easily?take up?30mb?or more?storage space.

Saving files for metro apps in Windows 8/8.1 when printing

Hi,
I have a query regarding saving files for metro apps Windows 8/8.1.
Metro apps saves the file automatically to the Document folder when we print.
But I would like to save the files into a recommened folder like C:\users\tmp\
Please suggest me, is there a way to save the files to a particular folder for metro apps in Windows 8/8.1.

As far as I know (and I may be wrong), there's no built-in file saving when printing documents. How are you confirming that?
You can save the file anywhere you want, as long as the user chooses the folder location using the FolderPicker.

I totally agree on the Backup thing, but which exact 3 TB are you thinking of, many are worthless & unreliable???
And BTW, I think Time Machine is the worst backup solution ever invented, but if you have trouble using a TV Remote, it's better than a swift kick in the pants!

Windows 7 + Office 2007 & 2010 VERY slow saving files to on 2008 R2 files shares

OK I have litterally tried everthing in every forum there is to resolve this. It is only happening on our Win 7 workstations that are running Office 2007 or 2010. Our file shares are on a 2008 R2 server. Opening and saving files on the shares using
Office is very slow. I have tried updates and server and workstations are 100% up to date. The server is only running as a file share server. Nothing else on it. We have completely set up new PC's to test with clean Win 7 installs and nothing else except Office.
Nothing else on the network is slow at all. I have tried all the hotfixes in the world that could relate to this from many hours of research into possible causes. I have done the EnableShellDataCaching fix, the SMB 2 disable fix, the windows search/indexer
fix, the pdfmaker fix, the lookup wizard add-in fix, the go to the newest firmware on the cisco switch fix, update workstation nic driver fix, the Trusted Locations in Excel fix, and about a dozen other fixes. NOTHING WORKS! This has brought our Win 7
and Office 2007/2010 users to a halt in their ability to do their jobs. Our company is suffering badly. And did I mention that our IT dept is getting a lot of heat and criticism about it. FYI we are running an IBM E5450 with dual multi-thread
multi-core(8) 3 Mhz Intel Xeon processors with 2008 R2 64-bit, 12 GB ram, and the server is using litterally no resources. Network connected is Gigabit. This has to be a Microsoft issue with 2008/Win 7/Office 2007&2010. This has become a nightmare for
out IT dept and has consumed weeks of our time when we need to be working on other projects. Can anyone solve this. Microsoft: Please release a REAL fix for this that we can run on the server or push via GPO to the workstations.

At this time, I suggest trying to start Excel in safe mode. Then, open the Excel file or create a new Excel file, and save the file to the network again.
Start the Excel program in safe mode
1.       Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.
2.        Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Microsoft Excel.
If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Excel program, we can try to disable them. Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Excel program:
Disable add-ins
Click File menu, click Options > Add-in, click Go button in the Manage: Com-in Add.
Check if there are any add-ins, clear the checkbox to disable them.
Close the Office program and restart it.
Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart the Office program, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.

Let’s disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:
1.       Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.
2.        Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3.       Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.
Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This should not affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later.

When downloading is complete, I can not see, run, nor access the file; it only appears in the "Downloads" window (and not the specified folder) and the only options permitted are to delete it, or to go to the download web site; what's blocking it?

I have a similar problem when accessing .zip files that are attachments to my emails. Here, however, I can place the file in a designated folder, however, the .zip file and it's compressed content files are file-typed as "FireFox Document" and I get permissions errors when running an unzip tool.

Trying to update to iTunes 10.4.1 and I get a message "A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:|Windows|Installer|iTunes.msi" Running WIndows 7 with all updates done. I have never had an issue with iTunes updating before. Anyo

iTunes has tried to update itself and runs into an error and tells me to manually install. When I d/l and run the iTunesSetup.exe file I always encounter the following error message...
"A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C;|Windows|Installer|iTunes.msi" and iTunes does not update to iTunes 10.4.1.

Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

My aim is to run a MS-DOS Batch file, that I created to run a Java Prgram.
I need to call the Batch File from the Oracle Procedure, Also I may need to change the content of the Batch File (Argument to the Java JAR File ).
I can keep the JAR FIle either in the Oracle Server or in the Application Server.
The Java program is to convert XML Format FIle to PDF and MS Word format.
Oracle Version : 10g 2.0.1.0.
