PS6 raw image thumbnails gone in finder

Recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and as a result raw images thumbnails no longer show up in finder windows. I use the finder for sorting hundreds of images - now it requires me to open Photoshop to see an image. Apple has always supported new version of Adobe raw - at lease for a while.
I know I could update the OS and probably solve this issue, but...
1. I don't like being coerced into doing that and
2. I like SnowLoepard better than the new OS.
Is there not some solution that respects my preferences as a user for at least a couple of years?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello Turlie,
1.) Make sure you have a backup
2.) Hold down command + option on your keyboard and launch iPhoto
3.) Check off the top 2 rebuild options only (they both mention thumbnails)
If that does not take care of it:
1.) Hold down command + option on your keyboard and launch iPhoto
2.) Check off the "repair permissions option"
3.) Allow this to complete, close iPhoto and do the rebuild again and this time with "Rebuild iPhoto library database..." only
If that does not take care of it:
Highlight everything in your library, right click on an image, and choose "Rescan"
If that does not take care of it, you can either restore from a backup you have BEFORE the issue started happening or go to your iPhoto Library (Usually located in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library), right click on the library and choose show package contents, remove anything that says "faces".
WARNING: Removing these files will remove all your faces you've identified thus far. You'll have to re-do them. BUT, it should also resolve your issue.
Hope that helps.

  • Why are RAW image thumbnails not being rendered?

OK. I am not sure that I used the right terminology, but I have noticed that Bridge is no longer rendering (? proper term) the Canon Raw image thumbnails properly in Bridge CS6.
I shoot RAW and Small JPEGs. I copy the folder of images onto my external hard from my camera and open Bridge. I see thumbnails of both the RAW and JPEGs with a black border around each image. As Bridge reads each image, the black border disappears from each JPEG thumbnail, but not from the RAW thumbnail like it used to do.
When I click the raw thumbnail once, I get the larger RAW preview image. When I click the larger image and get the loop, the RAW thumbnail then renders and  either the black border disappears from the thumbnail or the corrections made in bridge become visible in the thumbnail.
When the loop is on the larger preview image, the image in the loop enlarges automatically to 200% and I have to take the time to scale it back to read the image selection at 100%.
When I do a batch edit of many RAW images in Bridge, I can click done and the small slider in a circle icon appears above the RAW thumbnail, but the thumbnail is not rendered to reflect the correctiuons made to the image.
This was never an issue before. Bridge was great in reading RAW images at all stages and now it's not.

Have you selected Prefer Embedded previews from the toolbar, or is it set to High Quality on Demand, or Always High Quality?
Have you tried selecting the containing folder, right-clicking and clicking "purge cache for selection"?
It sounds like you are having problems with the cache. Depending on the number of images you have and the speed of your computer, it might be worth purging the entire cache, but this should be a last resort.

  • Missing image thumbnail/preview in finder?

When scrolling through image files (jpg) within finder as organized in "column view," I used to be able to select an image just once (not opening up the preview application) but seeing a little thumbnail in the column view within finder. This was the case up until Mountain Lion. Does anyone know how to regain this feature?

Just kidding...found it in VIEW menu

  • Nikon RAW image thumbnails can't be see.

When trying to open a file in PS6 (13.0.1 32 & 64) I can't see NEF thumbnails (Nikon D800). Files will open but I need to see thumbnails to be able to selct the image easily. ACR v 7.3.0.71 is installed and I have checked that this is the latest version. I am able to see NEF thumbnail images in Lightroom 4.
Help / advice please as I am new to PS6. Thanks
    Simon

PS is using an operating-system-level function while you’re in File / Open.  You either need to be using an Adobe product such as Bridge that does use ACR to render thumbnails, or you need to update your operating-system with a codec that understands Nikon RAW formats.
You can try the Microsoft Codec Pack:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829
Or you can pay for the Fast Image Viewer Codec Pack that understands how to get at the thumbnails of many different image formats, including Adobe PSDs:

  • Loss of thumbnails of RAW images in Photoshop prior to opening them in Camera Raw

I recently purchased and started using a Canon EOS 7D Mark II.  I found that with my Photoshop CS6 I was unable to open my RAW files in Camera Raw, so I downloaded an update of Camera Raw, viz. version 8.7.1 from the Adobe website.  Now I can open the RAW images from my new camera in Camera Raw.  However, I have lost the capacity to display a thumbnail image of a RAW file when using the open function of the file drop down menu in Photoshop. Now when I single-click on an ID number of a RAW image from the list of images, I see only a blank thumbnail.  I save lots of time using image thumbnails for selecting images for editing in Camera Raw.  Is there some way to restore the ability to see RAW image thumbnails in Photoshop prior to opening images in Camera Raw?

Which operating system are you using?
Are the blank thumbnails only for the files from the canon EOS 7D Mark II camera?
An alternative is to use Bridge CS6 or Mini Bridge to see the photos before you open them in photoshop cs6.

  • PSE7/ACR 5.6 issue with Canon 7D raw images too dark - solution?

Whenever shooting both jpeg and raw images with my Canon 7D and uploading to PSE7 (where I use ACR 5.6 to convert raw) the raw thumbnails are a stop darker than the jpegs.  When converting a raw 7D image, the exposure needs to be increased by a stop (this needs to be done whether or not jpegs are also shot).  This phenomena does not occur with my Canon 50D using the same raw converter - the jpeg and raw image display the same exposure and raw images do not need the exposure increased.
I have noticed in the raw converter on the Camera Calibration tab that - for the 50D - the Camera Profile contains ACR 4.6, Adobe Standard, and the Canon camera profiles, whereas for the 7D the Camera Profile only has the Adobe Standard and the camera profiles.  The converter does say 7D at the top of the screen, however, so the converter recognizes the 7D.  Is there a 7D Camera Profile that needs to somehow be configured/uploaded, etc.?  ( I did run CameraProfiles.exe)
The 50D and 7D are set up the same, so this is not an ALO or some other camera setup issue - I have done extensive testing in this area.  Also, Canon DPP displays the thumbnails (raw & jpeg) and the raw conversion exposure correctly, which tells me that this issue has something to do with ACR 5.6.
Is this a setup issue in 5.6?  Or, do I need to upgrade to PSE8 and ACR 5.7 or 6.1 to get around this?
    Thanks for your assistance.
    Ed

    Update:
I installed PSE9, which comes with ACR 6.1, and the issue was not resolved.  So, I downloaded ACR 6.2 - same problem: EOS 7D raw images (thumbnails and when opened in raw converter) are 1 stop under-exposed.  As stated above, Canon's DPP doesn't exhibit this problem, nor does FastStone Image Viewer, only ACR.  Anyone else having this issue?  Thanks for any help.

  • Can't open raw images in CS2 after install, can't see thumbnails in Bridge

I hope you guys can help.
We just purchased an Acer laptop computer, picked it up yesterday. Hubby is going to use this strictly for working on his pictures when out of town. He didn't even plan to hook it up to the internet. It has Windows Vista Home Premium, 2G of RAM, 120G of hard drive and a CD/DVD player/recorder. I installed Photoshop CS2, Nik Sharpener, Neatimage noise remover and Huey Pro Calibrater onto the computer last night.
When I opened Photoshop & Bridge, opened a DVD of some RAW images, Bridge would not show the thumbnails and I couldn't open any in Photoshop. In Bridge all that showed was a light blue box with CR2 over it and the file name below for each image. When I tried to open one I got a "Can not complete process due to a program error" message. I did open a jpeg image into Photoshop from the ones included in my documents and had no trouble with that. I didn't acutally try to do anything with it so I'm not sure that any of the options in Photoshop actually work, although they were all active with the jpeg image.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to correct these two problems?
Thanks for any help I can get, Linda

    Thanks John,
I actually went into Photoshop and ran the update. This gave me the current Camera Raw file 3.7 and an update for Bridge. I downloaded it and it is installed in Photoshop. This gave me thumbnails for the images taken on our Canon Rebel XTI, but not the Canon 30D. I went to the Camera Raw Update page on adobe.com. Found the 30D back in update 3.4. Shouldn't the latest update have all the previous updates included. As I understand the instructions, you are just supposed to replace the older version of Camera Raw with the newer. Will I have to install each update in order to get the support for my camera?
This leads me to another question, I downloaded the 3.4 and was following the instructions for installing it. It says to go to My Computer, open C, or disk with files installed, then navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS-2\File Formats. My computer wasn't exactly like this, but I did get to the plug-in for Photoshop CS-2. After getting there, move existing Camera Raw.8bi to another location. Copy the Camera Raw Plug-in from the download into the same folder. See why is seems that the current version should have all previous updates?
Anyway, got to the Plug-in file and there is no Camera Raw file in it. I went through all the files in Adobe Program Files that looked like it might have it in it; bridge, ImageReady, and shared files. No Camera Raw to be found. I did open Photoshop up and double checked that it was showing up in the Plug-in list. Yep, it was there. Why can't I find it in the Program Files?
Sorry this is so long, I wanted to check everything I could before replying. Sure hope I can get this straightened out. Linda

  • Image Raw CR2 Thumbnails

When I press File Open in my PSE 11 and look for Camera Raw files, they all show PSE 11 icon which makes it hard to find where is the image I am looking for? How do you make these CR2 ehumbnails to show the actual image?
    Thanks

Simply select a folder containing raw images in Organizer (click the two yellow pins to see the full folder structure) to edit in camera raw. Then right-click a CR2 thumbnail and choose Edit with Photoshop Elements Editor.

  • Only thumbnail image appears in Viewer; RAW image inaccessible

I import Nikon D200 RAW images into Aperture project. The thumbnails appear in Browser as normal. I try to view them in the Viewer or Full Page and I only see the thumbnail sized images; and I cannot make adjustments, print or otherwise process the RAW image. The full 15mb NEF image is visible in Finder in the referenced file on the external hard drive and I can access it in Photoshop CS3, but Aperture does not access the RAW file. I have rebuilt the library and created a new library, but the problem persists. Help!!!

Do the thumbnails have a yellow border? If so, type a "P". You're in Quick Preview Mode.

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Why won't raw images display as thumbnails in organiser?

My raw images display only as the 'egg timer' icons in Organiser.  I can open them individually, edit and save as jpeg but cannot view them on the grid either before or after editing. This has only just started happening - two weeks ago all was well. It's such a nuisance not being able to scroll down my images in order to decide which ones to edit.
    Here's what I've tried:
    Uninstalled Elements 12 and reinstalled
Checked for updates (all up to date)
    Updated thumbnails
Usually what happens after my images are imported is that I see these icons and they gradually open to reveal my raw images.  Now they just stay with the timer icon and nothing more happens.
Anyone help me before I tear out any more hair?  Thank you!

If you can use the 'update thumbnail' successfully on individual files and open those files in ACR correctly chances are that you are facing a computer power problem. Creating a thumbnail in the Organizer means opening the image to create a reduced version. For raw files, that means reading the raw file (32 GB each for my Fuji raws...), converting it using the last settings in the xmp sidecar files, then creating the reduced thumbnail. Several seconds, even with a decent  computer.
To get an idea of your problem, it would be good to know the type and size of your raw files and your computer specs.
Contrary to other viewing softwares which only show the embedded jpeg thumbnail in the raw file, the organizer shows a real preview.

  • After a rebuild/repair of my photo library thumbnails are missing for RAW images.

Every few months I rebuild my iPhoto library to make sure the database stays clean and up to day. This time was different though - after the rebuild/repair of my photo library thumbnails are missing for all RAW images (Canon). Images from other cameras and jpegs are all fine. Only the events with Canon RAW images have no thumbnails.
I am rebuilding the thumbnails once again but has anyone else seen this issue? Losing thumbnails to RAW images during a rebuild?

Every few months I rebuild my iPhoto library to make sure the database stays clean and up to day.
There is no need to do this. It doesn't achieve anything.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.

  • Get gnome to show raw images as thumbnails

I want my gnome desktop to show RAW image files as thumbnails. I have an ubuntu machine that does this by default and I want this feature in my arch linux desktop. I've installed raw-thumbnailer and ufraw, but these didn't add RAW thumbnailing abilites to nautilus.
Does anyone here have this feature enabled on their gnome desktop? Could you tell me how to do this?

I have no idea if the nautilus thumbnailer can do that (not using gnome). You may be able to do it with thunar-thumbnailers though. I think you should be able to change the thumbnailer somewhere in gconf.
