What display driver version do you have?
Try this:  Go to the ATI web site (really, it's the AMD web site), and locate and download/install the latest Catalyst package for your hardware and OS (if memory serves, it's 12.3).

  • The GPU Sniffer crashed...

My copy of Photoshop CS6 is crashing after startup. I got a crash log and noticed that it says that "The GPU Sniffer crashed". My computer specs are:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Photoshop CS6 (64-bit)
    Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+

You have a third party driver that has a bug in it. And yes, After Effects and other applications that use the GPU do require updated video card drivers, or else they just blacklists the card as not working.
Photoshop is working correctly.  But your third party video card driver has a bug that prevent it from working correctly.  To fix the video card driver, you need to update the driver to pick up the bug fixes made to the driver.
This is not a Photoshop flaw, this is just a bug in your video card driver.
The only thing Adobe can do is blacklist your card and disable all GPU features when using that video card.  But we can't do that because the card is working for other users who have up to date drivers for their card.
Bottom line: your current video card driver software has a crashing bug in it, and needs to be updated to fix that bug.

    HELP - PS CS6x64 Liquify Crash Win7 x64
    current version installed: Photoshop_CS6_13_0_1_3_upd
current version when viewing About: 13.0.1
Liquify tool works, but crashes after closing Liquify window.  A simple 5x5in 72 DPI file will cause it to crash.
    nVidia GTX 680 current drivers.
    Deleting Prefs did not help.
Step 1. Hold down the Alt + Ctrl + Shift keys as you click on the icon to open ps. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes.
Step 2. Reset the preferences as above.
Step 3. Close ps and let the file regenerate.

We have seen similar problems in house. We found the 335.23 and 334.89 drivers can cause crashing or hanging on Liquify exit. But the 332.21 driver seems to work without problems. The 332.21 driver is available from the NVidia website.
We are working with NVidia to resolve this.

  • AIGPUsniffer.exe Crashes Win7 x64 - Illustrator is Unusable

    Hello!
I have recently installed Illustrator via the Creative Cloud onto a brand new Lenovo X1 Carbon (Intel HD graphics). Upon launching the program an error is thrown saying AUGPUsniffer has crashed. If I ignore the error window Illustrator will still launch but when I try to open a file it will crash and require a force close. I have reinstalled the GPU drivers and Illustrator itself. Any help at all would be appreciated as there is not a single mention of the AIGPUsniffer crashing in this community.
    AISPUSniffer.exe has stopped working

I'm seeing this issue as well. I have Illustrator install on two machines--a Surface Pro and a 2013 iMac, both running Windows 8.1 (fully updated). On the Surface, Illustrator successfully connects to and syncs my Libraries from Create Cloud. On the Mac, it doesn't. Similar to what MrJDuff saw, AIGPUSniffer.exe is crashing on the iMac.

  • What is the gpu sniffer?

This app is runner on my Microsoft surface. It uses 30% of my cpu causing the fan to run. Is this app required or is there a way to disable it.

Looks like the driver update solved the problem.
I had to upgrade to Mountain Lion as my OSX was version 10.7.5, and the 304 driver required 10.8
I can now use CUDA in AE and Premiere.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Can CS6 exploit the GPU on my desktop when accessed from my laptop with RDP?

Just to clarify further: both machines running windows 7 professional or better (so the full version of RDP is available), and CS6 runiing on the desktop, accessed from my laptop.
As the GPU is being used as a compute resource, will CS use the desktop GPU for acceleration?
sad day if not - I am considering ditching expensive laptops and use a medium spec laptop together with a good gutsy desktop (which is about 1/3rd the price / performance) as I have a good network to run over at home.

The water is somewhat muddied.  I have only a Windows 7 and Windows 8 system to try it with at the moment.
This is what I got when I RDP'd into a Windows 8 VM from Windows 7:

I have Photoshop working okay on the above system using the OpenGL VMware provides when I log directly into the console...
I don't think the above failure says anything definitive one way or another what's up with your particular request yet, though it does tell me I need to do some additional testing to try to understand what's happening so that I know how my own products are going to behave in this situation.
I have a Windows 7 VM I can test with.  Watch this space...

  • FAQ: What features use the GPU and how do I troubleshoot GPU issues?

    Photoshop CS6 GPU FAQ
    Introduction
This document provides a quick reference guide to video card usage in Photoshop.  Some features require a compatible video card to work; if the video card or its driver is defective or unsupported, those features will not work at all.  Other features use the video card for acceleration and if the card or driver is defective those features will run more slowly.
    Mercury Graphics Engine
The Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE) represents features that use video card, or GPU, acceleration. In Photoshop CS6, this new engine delivers near-instant results when editing with key tools such as Liquify, Warp, Lighting Effects and the Oil Paint filter. The new MGE delivers unprecedented responsiveness for a fluid feel as you work.
MGE is new to Photoshop CS6, and uses both the OpenGL and OpenCL frameworks. It does not use the proprietary CUDA framework from nVidia.
In order to use MGE, you must have a supported video card and updated driver. If you do not have a supported card, performance will be degraded. In most cases the acceleration is lost and the feature runs in the normal CPU mode. However, there are some features that will not work without a supported video card.
GPU features added in Photoshop CS6
Adaptive Wide Angle Filter (compatible video card required)
Liquify (accelerated by compatible video card with 512MB VRAM, GPU mode unavailable on Windows XP)
Oil Paint (compatible video card required)
Warp and Puppet Warp (accelerated by compatible video card, GPU mode unavailable on Windows XP)
Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt/Shift (accelerated by compatible video
card supporting OpenCL, GPU mode unavailable on Windows XP)
Lighting Effects Gallery (compatible video card required with 512MB
    VRAM, unavailable on Windows XP)
New 3D enhancements (3D features in Photoshop require a compatible video card with 512MB VRAM, unavailable on Windows XP):

    GPU/OpenGL preferences in Photoshop CS6
The advantages of using a compatible video card (GPU) with Photoshop are that you can experience better performance and more features.   Problems can occur if you have an older video card with limited VRAM or if you use other programs at the same time as Photoshop that use the GPU.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS).
In the Performance panel, make sure Use Graphics Processor is selected in GPU Settings.
Click Advanced Settings and specify the following options:
    Mode > Basic
    Mode > Normal
Mode > Advanced Provides the benefits of Normal mode as well as newer OpenGL advances that can result in improved performance.
Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate Computation
Use OpenCL Uses the GPU to accelerate the new blur filters (Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt-Shift) – OpenCL will only be available on newer GPUs that support OpenCL v1.1 or higher
Anti-Alias Guides And Paths Allows the GPU hardware to smooth the edges of drawn guides and paths.
30 Bit Display (Windows only) Allows Photoshop to display 30 bit data directly to screen on video cards that support it
    Quick GPU Troubleshooting Steps
You can experience problems such as artifacts, errors, and crashes if there are incompatibilities between Photoshop and the display components that access the GPU.
If you experience crashes, incorrectly rendered windows or objects, redraw issues, or performance issues while running Photoshop, first determine whether OpenGL is causing the problem.
    Turn off OpenGL.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS).
In the Performance panel, uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Click OK.
Restart Photoshop, and perform the same function.
If the problem recurs while OpenGL Drawing is disabled, OpenGL is not the cause. For additional troubleshooting, see Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows (cpsid_82252) or Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Mac OS 10.x (cpsid_82414).
If the problem resolves, proceed with the rest of the troubleshooting steps to fix OpenGL.
Make sure that you're using the latest update of Photoshop.Updates fix bugs and issues.
Update the display driver.Updated display drivers can fix many issues, such as crashing, incorrectly rendered objects, and performance problems. Determine what video card you have and go directly to the manufacturer's website (nVidia or ATI/AMD) and download the latest driver. (Note: Simply doing a Windows Update is does not guarantee you are using the latest driver. You must go directly to the nVideo or ATI/AMD websites to get the absolute latest driver.) After you update your driver, turn on Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop preferences.
    Reset preferences.
Resetting preferences returns OpenGL settings to their default status. Reset Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Shift+Option+Command (Mac OS) immediately after you start Photoshop.
Click Yes when asked if you want to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File.
Retry the function that caused the problem.
Change the OpenGL mode to Basic.
Setting the OpenGL mode to Basic uses the least amount of GPU memory and the most basic GPU feature set.
    Close all documents.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, click the GPU Settings Advanced Settings button.
    Choose Mode > Basic
    Restart Photoshop.
If this solution resolves the problem, switch to Normal mode. See if the issue recurs. If the issue recurs, return to Basic mode.
Note:  If you’re changing GPU preferences to troubleshoot a problem, re-launch Photoshop after each change.
If you are using more than one video adapter, remove the additional cards.
Multiple video adapters can cause problems with GPU accelerated or enabled features in Photoshop. It's best to connect two (or more) monitors into one video adapter. If you have to use more than one video adapter, make sure that they are the same make and model. Otherwise, crashes and other problems can occur in Photoshop.
Note: Using two video adapters does not enhance Photoshop's performance.
    Check your Cache Levels setting.
If you've set your Cache Levels to 1 in Photoshop preferences, you can experience performance issues with GPU features. Reset Cache Levels to the default setting, which is 4.
Choose Edit > Preferences > Performance (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, choose Cache Levels > 4.
    The GPU Sniffer
To help guard against Photoshop crashes related to bad GPU hardware or drivers, Photoshop employs a small program called the GPU Sniffer. Every time Photoshop is launched, Photoshop launches the sniffer. The sniffer runs rudimentary tests of the GPU and reports the results to Photoshop. If the sniffer crashes or reports a failure status to Photoshop, Photoshop will not use the GPU. The Use Graphics Hardware checkbox in the Performance panel of the Preferences will be unchecked and disabled.
The first time the sniffer fails, Photoshop will display a dialog indicating that it has detected a problem with the GPU. On subsequent launches the dialog will not appear unless the Photoshop preferences are reset.
If the user corrects the problem, either by replacing the video card or by updating the driver, then the sniffer will pass on the next launch and the Use Graphics Hardware checkbox will be enabled and returned to its previous state (enabled or disabled).
Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. While the minimum amount of VRAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256MB, some features require 512MB of VRAM to be enabled.
Note: Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 series
    nVidia Quadro 400, 600, 2000, 4000 (Mac & Win), CX, 5000, 6000
    AMD/ATI Radeon 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 series
    AMD/ATI FirePro 3800, 4800, 5800, 7800, 8800, 9800, 3900, 4900, 5900, 7900
Intel Intel HD Graphics, Intel HD Graphics P3000, Intel HD Graphics P4000
Note: ATI X1000 series and nVidia 7000 series cards are no longer being tested and are not officially supported in CS6 – some basic GL functionality may be available for both these cards.
Note: 3Dand some Open GL features are disabled on Windows XP, as stated on : http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/photoshopcs6/

I've had several timeout since the pings were started. Got a some response times > 1ms (nothing greater than 7 or 8ms), but no timeouts.

  • Disable GPU features / GPU Sniffer through install?

    Hello!
New to Adobe and this community, apologizes in advance if placed in the wrong forum.
I am looking to deploy Photoshop CS6 in an enterprise environment. We have a number of clients which meet the requirements of the program, but do not have the video memory to utilize the graphics accelerated features. I've been asked to research disabling the GPU features (or the GPU sniffer) at the install process to avoid the user experience of the pop up. Is there a customization tool or have any users found a work around for this scenario? I have read the sticky here, and also came across a user submitted solution here which I thought might work but is not an option in our environment.
Challenge: GPU Sniffer pops up notice of disabled features when first run with new user on clients that do not meet GPU acceleration specs.
Goal: Avoid/remove pop up, either by customization of installation, of modification of preferences post install from centralized management.
Again, many thanks for taking a look and any feedback you can provide!

Thanks for the answer.  I understand completely.
I apologize if I seemed forward for asking.  I have perhaps an oversensitivity, as I once was at the mercy of a corporate IT department that was staffed by, shall we say, technically-challenged folks who made - without fail - penny-wise and pound-foolish decisions.  I ended up cutting my engineering department off from them completely, and after outfitting my group with Really Great workstations 20 software engineers began putting out the work of 40.  It's amazing what an investment in one's employees can net.
Something did actually dawn on me that could possibly be helpful...  When I set up test systems here (I use virtual machines for a lot of testing), I have been successful in developing an initial set of Photoshop parameters, then just copying all the files and subfolders in the following folder.  Voila, Photoshop comes up with the same setup as the source system.
C:\Users\NoelC\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Adobe Photoshop CC Settings
Perhaps you could develop Photoshop settings that could then be copied to the target environments before Photoshop is run.

  • GPU Settings Became Unavailable PS CS5 32 Bit on Win7 x64

I have an ATI Radeon HD 4670 card by VisionTek with 1 GB of RAM in my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate 8 GB workstation.  I run a dual monitor setup, and have all video driver software up to date (as well as Windows 7).  The system is running perfectly, not logging any errors nor exhibiting any signs of other problems.
My video card/system have supported GPU acceleration since PS CS4, and when I first installed PS CS5 I was able to immediately configure the settings to enable OpenGL Drawing in CS5 32 bit, then exercise the GPU (after a restart of CS5 32 bit) but now the settings are unavailable and the software reports "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard":
The 64 bit build of PS CS5 DOES allow the GPU settings, and it works with them just fine:
When I initially ran CS5 32 bit I was NOT running Aero (i.e., the theme was Windows 7 Basic), as I was sharing my desktop with a co-worker using RAdmin (so we could both experience the installation and setup process).  However, manually selecting the Windows 7 Basic theme now does not re-enable the ability to configure OpenGL Drawing.
The only things I did between the time the setting was available and wasn't was to arrange my palettes and create a Workspace within which to keep them.
The memory setting (shown at 100% above for CS5 32 bit) does not affect this issue.
Any ideas how to get back OpenGL acceleration in 32 bit CS5?
    -Noel

Note:  I edited this response after seeing your second response.
On initial startup Photoshop 32 bit is offering the OpenGL configuration, implying the driver has said that it CAN do the OpenGL operations.  Additionally, when enabled (on the first Photoshop startup or subsequently via the registry tweak) the functions DO work, flawlessly from what I can see.
It doesn't MATTER why it doesn't work.  I (the user) don't have the facilities to MAKE it work properly nor even to diagnose it further.  You do.  Thank you for agreeing to look into it further.
There are several purposes a forum can serve:
    1.  Users can help other users get around problems they have, either because they've done something wrong, or via a workaround.
    2.  A dialog can be created between users and developers.
Please, let's not allow item 2 to be an avenue where Adobe just tries mightily to dodge responsibility for the problem.
It's YOUR application that does not work properly.  Everything else works great.  You'll have to trust me on that - if I could provide some additional proof (system uptime info? reliability index? what?) I'd do it in a heartbeat.  I can assure you've I've installed the drivers correctly as well.
I'm a career software developer myself with 34 years experience.  When Windows 7 first came out users started to report crashes of Photoshop after using one of my plugins.  Did I tell them "It's the fault of Windows" or "It's the fault of Photoshop"?  No.  I apologized that MY application was not working perfectly under those conditions.  I then investigated the problem, found that a Windows call having to do with using a patterned pen was causing memory corruption in Photoshop, and developed a workaround so that with that particular combination of software the crash is averted.  I also then reported the root cause of the bug to Microsoft.

  • ITunes (Win7 x64) is no longer opening after the latest version update

iTunes (Win7 x64) is no longer opening after the latest version update - I have attempted an un/reinstall - can anyone offer other suggestions?
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and am trying to reinstall the 64-bit iTunes from the iTunes website.  I previously have had this working for the last few years with no major issues, the Apple Software Updater has been pestering me for some time so I finally got it to update.  However now iTunes will not start, if I select the icons nothing happens.  There are no iTunes applications running in the background in Task Manager either.
I look forward to your suggestions.
    Thanks,
    James.

    1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Files
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3.  If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime.  START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REAPIR.

I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom 5, now when I try to register I am asked for the original licence/serial number. Where do I go from here??????

If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5.  If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version.  Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.
Serial number and activation chat support (non-CC)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html ( http://adobe.ly/1aYjbSC )
If you did purchase 4.4 then that should be sufficient to use to activate 5.
I can never be sure what goes on with Lightroom, and the Adobe site (even when it works properly) makes finding information about products difficult these days so I am at a loss to confirm anything I say.

  • LR crashes related to the GPU + KB3048761 issue

    Summary
    ========
There is the chance to have LR CC problems if you install the MS KB3048761 update
When LR has issues with the GPU, it doesn't warn you about that, it just crash! We need a better error handling and UX here!!
LR crashes when just disabling the GPU!! Same recommendation as above.
    Detail
    =====
When I started to use LR CC, it crashed (perpetually frozen) very often; in particular when entering into the developing mode. Also, I have a crash with PS CC, and it told me in a popup window it was because the GPU. So, I disabled the GPU in PS & LR CC and as result no more crashes!!
Then, I ran the Windows 7 (64-bit, SP1)  update panel and found out an nVidia update, and other one (KB3048761) related to memory-leak issues when multiple windows are open.
I installed both of them and started to have issues with LR CC temporarily frozen each few second of interaction. I had to switch to another application to go back to LR and have response form it. However, PS and all the other applications I use (Google Chorme, MS Office, etc.) were fine. Then, I de-installed the KB3048761 update, and the life was beautiful again.
I felt it was the moment to test the GPU, and enabled it in both LR and PS CC. LR still got frozen from time to time but not very often as before. However PS is fine all the time! I decided to disable again the GPU in LR CC, but it also gets frozen when I just try to disable the GPU!

Whatever the cause is, it will likely not fix itself, but continue to get worse over time. You could try running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test to see if anything turns up.
Since you're under warranty, you might want to go ahead and report the problem to Apple and maybe get a case number. Very likely the problem will slowly get worse until it happens so frequently that it will predictably happen when the computer is started up. Apple would probably like to see the problem occur before doing a repair.
Of course if you get an error code from the AHT, you would have something concrete to report.
There have been some problems with the GeForce 8600M GT chipset specifically. You might want to check in the system profiler to see if you have this particular chipset.
It could also be a problem with your inverter board or possibly the cable.
    Good luck!

  • Where to download driver for the SD BT2 Bluetooth adapter for Win7 x64?

    Hello,
where can I download drivers for the SD BT2 Bluetooth adapter for Win7 x64?
    Thank you.

    I agree with bluecat.
BT SD card is not on the market for years now and this device is not supported anymore so I think you will not be able to find driver to get it work with Win7.

  • Qosmio X300-14C - Crash during games due to overheating of the GPU

Hi everybody. I recently by a Qosmio X300-14C (core 2 Quad Q9000,? 9700 GTS), and during games, the temperature of the GPU increase till 100 C and the game crash.
So I buy a USB cooler for my X300. Now, the temperature increase ?only? till 96 97C. And there is no crash.
I try to put the last bios, the last Toshiba GPU driver, the last nvidia GPU driver, the same.
When I start Vista, without any application, the temp increase till 65C. The fan increase his speed, so the temp goes to 55. The fan stop running faster, and the temp start to increase again.
During games, the fan made the same noise when the temp is 65C or 95C. So I think the problem is here. There is no increase of the fan speed for very high temp. So only 2 speed: under 65C and over, that?s all.
I install ntune, but the speed of the fan dont move at all. For the GPU I have 20.000 RPM per minute! Is that right?
Some people have the same probleme?
    Thanks!
    Esteban.

I have the same problem with my Qosmio X300 (PQX32E-04H02WGR). Anytime I'm playing games there is a blackscreen and a tuneloop.
I wrote a email to the toshiba-service in germany and they told me to make a new installation of windows, to install the new bios 2.1 and the new beta driver from nvidia. Even this all did not solve the problem.
So I ring up the german hotline and they told me that there is nothing more to do and that they don't know that problem. They sayed I could try playing the games in a reduced resolution and perhaps this could solve the problem!!!??? Yes... I buy a very expensive gamer-notebook to play with it in a reduced resolution - nice idear.
After I told them that I think it could be an overheating-problem they want to get the notebook to find it out on my own risk (I have to pay a service-charge if it is no overheating problem).
    We will see...
