PSA 2.0, PSE 3.0 und PSA 3.0?

Hallo zusammen,
auf die Gefahr hin, dass dies hier schon ein paarmal durchdiskutiert wurde (ja, ich habe gesucht, aber nichts gefunden ; ), würde es micht interessieren ob Adobe PSE 3 als Nachfolger von PSA 2 (nicht Starter Edition!) ansieht (also die Produktlinie PSA auslaufen lässt) oder ob auch beim PSA demnächst mit Neuerungen zu rechnen ist. Die "Album"-Funktionen des PSE 3 würden ja gut in ein "großes" PSA 3 passen - die Bildbearbeitungsfunktionen interessieren mich eher weniger - sonst hätte ich ja gleich PSE oder das richtige Photoshop gekauft.
Hat jemand mal was läuten gehört? Gibt es offizielle Statements?

This is all very confused - bacause Adobe use complicated versioning.
The last version of PSA was PSA 2.
There is a giveaway version called PSA SE 3, which is mostly a subset of PSA 2.
The replacement for PSA 2 was Photoshop Elements 3 [PSE 3 - its Organizer component], which added more functionality and works fine with CS.
PSE 3 was then replaced by PSE 4 and PSE 4 by PSE 5.
Forget PSA SE 3.

Hi Maria, I guess if you open the same catalog on new machine and all images are placed in same location then you should be able to view tags, but it is not a defined process and I have never tried it. Please note that catalog is placed at: C:\Documents and Settings\<Logon name>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album P.S. If you want to move files from one system to another, then you can perform Backup --> Restore in Photoshop Elements. However Photoshop Album Starter Edition does not support these features.

Convert psa-catalog from PSE 5.0 to actual catalog of PSE 13

If have a problem to get an old psa-catalog from Photoshop Elements 5 converted into a catalog of the new Photoshop Elements 13. The way the help forum describt it doesn't works, as in the convert-manager the catalog doesn't appears and the checkbox of the previous converted files is inaktive.

Thanks for the reply. I want to move the photos to my new Win 7 laptop and have everything arranged as before. I am asked if I want to restore to the "original location" or a "new location." I don't know if "original location" means on my old laptop or on my new laptop but filed and stored as before.
If I have to chose "new location" I have to "Specify Destination" and I don't know what to specify.

Synchronisieren von PSE zwischen Laptop und PC

Ich arbeite oft mit dem Laptop unterwegs mit Photoshop Elements 4.0, lade von der Kamera, beurteile, erste Korrekturen, synchronisiere zu Hause auf den PC, wo mit einem Raid Array auch die Datensicherheit grösser ist und stelle die Arbeiten mit Photoshop Elements 4.0 fertig.
Wie synchronisere ich Photoshop Elements 4.0, so dass ich zu Hause am PC dort weiterfahren kann, wo ich unterwegs am Laptop aufgehört habe. Zugleich steht auch die Frage im Raum wie Backupe ich PSE um die umfangreiche Arbeit zu sichern.
PC und Laptop beide mit Win XP, werden zu Hause im LAN angedockt. Synchronisation mit Microsoft SyncToys.
Wer weiss wie vorgehen?

Hallo Jim,
ich nehme immer den Laptop mit auf Reisen. Wenn notwendig leere ich den Chip in den Laptop. Abends im Motel erstelle ich die Windows Struktur, schaue alles durch, drehe die vertikalen Bilder, kontrolliere ob alles so weit gelungen und führe die eine oder andere Schnellkorrektur durch, danch verteile ich die Tags. Nun wird alles auf eine USB Festplatte zur Sicherheit kopiert. Der Laptop bleibt im Handgepäck, die USB Platte wird im Gepäck verstaut.
Zu Hause synchronisiere ich den Laptop und damit auch die Bilder mit Microsoft SyncToys mit meinem PC. Nun sollten die neuen Fotos dem bestehenden zugfügt werden. Das geht da manchmal um 1000 oder mehr Bilder. Dazu sollte der Synchronisiervorgang einigermassen rationel sein.
Ich habe versucht die psa Datei zu synchronisieren - leider ohne den gewünschten Erfolg.
Ich habe versucht einen Photoshop-Backup vom PC zu erstellen und diesen dann zum Laptop kopiert wieder herzustellen, doch das gab eine Fehlermeldung.
Ich brauche mein Bildarchiv auch unterwegs und bin deshalb auf den gesamten Inhalt im Laptop angewiesen.
Ich habe Deine Englische Anleitung nicht ganz verstanden.
Vielleicht kannst Du aufgrund meiner Beobachtung weiter helfen.

Is PSA 3.0 SE an upgrade to PSA 2.0?

I currently have the full version (not starter) of Adobe Photoshop Album,
and am wondering if Adobe Photoshop Album 3.0 Start Edition is an upgrade
.... or exactly what it is. There is not full version of PSA 3.0, only
the free starter addition.... so I'm wondering what the upgrade path
is for the full 2.0 release?
Does anyone know if any of the features in the full edition of
PSA 2.0 are missing in PSA 3.0 SE?

Since PSA 2.0 is a paid version and PSA SE 3.0 is a free download , it does not have all the features of PSA 2.0. PSA 2.0 has features like Burn,Archive,Creations and Editing which are missing in PSA SE 3.0.As Colin said the upgrade path for PSA 2.0 is PSE 3/4.

DVD Brennen mit PSE 4.0 und PE 2.0

hallo, ich habe mit pse 4.0 eine diashow erstellt und möchte diese mittels pe 2.0 auf eine dvd brennen. so weit so gut, nachdem pse 4.0 eine wmv-datei erstellt hat, berechnet pe 2.0 die dvd-daten und beginnt auch diese auf eine dvd zu brennen (ist auf der dvd ersichtlich, aber nicht abspielbar), aber und nun kommt mein problem die dvd wird nicht abgeschlossen (pe hört immer kurz vor dem ende auf und ich habe schon 6 kaputte dvd`s, habe schon stundenlang gewartet aber pe schließt die dvd nicht ab). habe pe 2.0 heute komplett neu installiert aber es hat wieder nicht funktioniert. wer kann mir weiterhelfen? gruß helmut

I downloaded the trial of Elements 4 primarily for the purpose of evaluating the slideshow capabilities. I liked the idea of being able to create my slideshows within Elements instead of going to another software package.
Basically you can do your steps 2 and 3 [creating the slideshow with the pan and zoom like in PhotoStory]. Then you export to a wmv file which can be used in DVD software.
The pan and zoom tools in Elements 4 were ok at best, but definitely not as easy to use as in other software packages I use for slideshows [primarily Sony Movie Studio - a video editing program like Premiere Elements, but easier to use]. The clip art and text options for the slide show were cheesy. The quality of the wmv file was not as good as the quality I get with Sony Movie Studio. The zooming was somewhat choppy and simple crossfade transitions were also choppy. Elements 4 allows you to select the output resolution and quality of the wmv file, and I chose the settings for a DVD. You might get better results if you selected a higher resolution, but choppiness is usually an indicator of the quality of the conversion engine, and not the resolution you select.
Given the relatively more difficult tool for panning and zooming, and the lower quality output, I would not use Elements 4 to create slideshows. I will continue to use a Collection in Elements 3 to create the order of my pictures for my slideshow, then drag them to a timeline in Sony Movie Studio where I'll apply pan and zoom and output to a DVD compliant MPG file. For me, this is the easiest workflow with the best output. You could replicate this process in Premiere Elements, but the pan and zoom tools in Premiere Elements are not as easy to use as in Sony Movie Studio or ProShow Gold.

PSE Onlinegalerie erstellen und einbinden

habe heute eine Onlinegalerie mit PSE erstellt und wollte diese jetzt in meine Homepage einbinden.
Haben also über meinen FTP Server die Datei hochgeladen und stehe nun vor dem Problem das ich nicht weiß wie ich die Galerie in eine bestehende Seite einbinden kann.
Vielleicht kann mir jemand weiter helfen ?

Welche Version von Photoshop Elements haben Sie? Die Ordnerstruktur ist unterschiedlich in neueren von aelteren Versionen. Egal aber, jede Gallerie hat eine Index.html Datei. Dahin wuerden Sie verlinken. Genau wie ist hier schwer zu erklaeren, besonders dann auch noch auf Deutsch , ich kenne mich besser mit den englischen Begriffen aus. Wenn Sie die URL Ihrer Seite angeben wuerden (evtl via PM), koennte ich vielleicht ein paar Vorschlaege machen.

mal eine Frage an die ersten Nutzer von Photoshop Elements 5: Funktioniert die Funktion "Tag-Info in Dateien speichern" jetzt nicht nur bei JPG, sondern auch bei DNG?

PSE 2/PSA 2 conversion to PSE 5 on new PC

I Just purchased and installed a new PC running MS Windows XP Media Edition. I am in the process of converting applications and data/picture files from my old MS Windows XP Home Edition to the new PC. Both Windows XP operating systems are up to date.
The old PC has PSE 2.0 and PSA 2.0.1 which manages just under 2,000 cataloged and tagged photos. I have not installed PSE or PSA on the new machine. Both PCs have a single hard drive c:.
I just purchased PSE 5, but have not installed it on either PC. What would be the best way to convert and copy My_Catalog with all the photos to PSE 5 on my new PC?
a) On old PC, Backup My_Catalog to CDs (or flash drive) with PSA 2;
Install PSE 5 on the new PC and restore to c: on new PC
b) Install PSE 5 on old PC and convert My_Catalog to new Organizer
(however that might be done);
Backup catalog and photos on old PC with PSE 5 to CDs (or flash drive)
Install PSE 5 on new PC and restore My_Catalog
c) Some other method?
I searched your Tips, Tools, How-to, and Techniques forum and did not find anything too definitive. I would sincerely appreciate guidance on this conversion before I start.

As no one has posted to this entry, I am thinking about doing the following to convert to PSE 5 and moving to a new PC.
On my old PC:
1. With PSA Ver 2, File/Reconnect_All_Missing_Files
2. With PSA Ver 2, File/Catalog/Recover
3. With PSA Ver 2, File/Backup the catalog and burn CDs
4. Install PSE Ver 5. Hopefully, this will convert the PSA 2 catalog to PSE 5 format.
5. With PSE Ver 5, Backup the catalog to CDs
On my new PC:
6. Install PSE Ver 5
7. With PSE 5, Restore the PSE 5 backup CDs

Based on the minimum information available on the Adobe site, I can not tell if the PSE 3 Organizer and PSA 3 SE will conflict either in program files or the Catalog.

This is a strange beast. The default is still My Catalog but there is no
ability to customize where the catalogue will go, nevermind if you want to
create another one.

I'll have to check on the other computer for PSA 2. I just have CS 2 on this
one. For some reason I thought I also had PSE 3.0, but I don't.
Sorry for the screw up Barbara. That said, the extension is the same. This
looks to me as though PSA 3 SE won't read other catalogs... but I'll have to
test it at the house. I'm at the school right now.
It also includes a small item that says "upgrade to PSE", so it is
compatible... but as you are right to be concerned... I still need to
install it with PSE to see about running it in parallel. As I look at
this... I can't see any advantage to.

Als erstes solltest Du (falls noch nicht geschehen) das Update auf Version 2.0.1 aufspielen:

Falls das nichts hilft, kannst Du es mit dem aktuellen Apple Quicktime (das zum Abspielen der mov-Filme gebraucht wird) versuchen:

PSA 2 Update: Wo sind die Präsentationen?

Seit dem Einspielen des Update finde ich in den KREATIONEN/ERSTELLEN nur noch BILDBAND, aber zB keine PRAESENTATONEN mehr. Wo sind sie geblieben?

Schau mal in das Verzeichnis "C:\Programme\Adobe\Photoshop Album 2.0\Shared_Assets\Templates". Dort müßten sich ca. 100 Dateien mit der Endung tmpl befinden. Falls nicht, einfach neu installieren.
Falls doch ist wahrscheinlich der Template-Cache korrupt. Einfach mal die Datei "C:\Programme\Adobe\Photoshop Album 2.0\Shared_Assets\Locales\DE_DE\templates.dat" löschen und PSA neu starten.

PSA 2 - Bilder in neues Verzeichnis verschieben

Wegen einer Neuinstallation möchte ich meine Bilder (sind bereits in PSA2 katalogisiert) in einem neuen Verzeichnis ablegen.
Gibt es in PSA2 eine Möglichkeit, einen komplett neuen Verzeichnispfad anzugeben?

Nicht direkt, leider! Es gibt drei Dinge, die Du ausprobieren kannst. (Mach vorher ein Backup!!!)
1. Verschiebe die Bilder mit dem Windows Explorer, starte PSA und hoffe, daß "Datei > Alle fehlenden Dateien erneut verbinden" tatsächlich alle Deine Bilder wiederfindet. (Bei mir hat das leider nicht geklappt.
2. (Backup zurückspielen) Wechsele in die Pfad-Ansicht ("Ansicht > Sortierung > Pfad"), markiere jeweils ein komplettes Verzeichnis und verschiebe es mit "Datei > Verschieben ..." an den neuen Platz. Mit vielen Verzeichnissen dauert das natürlich recht lange.
3. (So habe ich es letztlich gemacht) Verschiebe die Photos extern wie in 1. Öffne MS Access und lade die Katalogdatei (die dürfte irgendwo unter "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\Adobe\" zu finden sein und heißt, glaube ich, "Meine Bilder.psa"). Dort kannst Du dann per Suchen/Ersetzen die Pfadnamen korrigieren. (Das geht natürlich nur, wenn man Access hat und ein bißchen damit umzugehen weiß.)

PSA 2.0 to PSA SE 3.0 Catalog Issues

I edit my images in PS CS but I paid for Photoshop Album 2.0. because I really liked its tagging facilities and calendar organizing. So I spent a lot of time tagging.
Now PSA 3.0 SE is out and I installed it but after install I noticed it didn't have my old tags. This might be caused by my moving the PSA 2.0 to my G drive to improve drive contention and to make it more noticeable for backups (I believe it was buried in the "Program Files/Adobe/Album" area or something like that...hard to even know you should go there for backups).
So a couple questions:
1) Is this tagging and calendaring stuff available in Elements or Photoshop? In others words is going to PSA SE 3.0 the right upgrade path?
2) How can I get the catalog into PSA SE 3.0? Are the 2.0 and 3.0 catalogs compatible so I can just replace the 3.0 catalog with 2.0? Or is there a hidden import function?
Thanks for you help. I wish Adobe had at least carried the 2.0 features (including have the catalog location listed in preferences) rather than dumbing it down.

PSA SE 3 install preparation questions

I am looking at my brother's computer which has PSA2 Starter Edition 2 downloaded but never used. My thoughts are that it would be best to uninstall PSA SE 2, then download and install PSA SE 3 and import his new photos to PSA SE 3.
He has XP Home SP2 on a Pentium 4, only 256 MB RAM but plenty of hard drive space available. Because of the limited RAM and the fact that he is new to digital photos, I eliminated the possiblity of giving him a Photoshop Elements 4 that I no longer need.
I know Photoshop Album 2 and Photoshop Elements, but have never used the Starter Edition:
1 - To unintall PSA SE2 - I suspect I should use the Control Panel > Add and Remove programs. Correct?
2 - Is there any documentation available as a PDF file for PSA SE 3?
3- Any tips about the PSA SE 3 download, install and registration that I should know?
4 - Can anyone suggest a way to verify the ODBC - MS Database code on this PC before downloading and using PSA SE 3?

1)Correct, you can uninstall PSA SE2 from Control Panel > Add and Remove programs.
2)Yes, there is an online Help PDF file available. For this go to help manu in SE 3.0 & click "Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 Help..."or you can also press F1 directly to go to help page.
This page contains a PDF Help file. Download it & use it.
For further queries about SE 3.0 you can post your problem on this forum as well.
3) PSE SE 3.0 download is free. You'll be allowed to use product for 26 launches without registration. After this you need to register yourself. An email containing an "Unlock Code" will be delievred at ypur mail id. You need to put that unlock code for unlocking the product. After this you can use the product for life.
4) Can you please tell me the steps & the problem that you are facing with this ODBC connection & PSA SE 3.0 thing.
