PSA SE to PSE 3.0 Upgrade - No Tags

I just installed PSE 3.0 (full version) and want to maintain the tags I created with PSA SE. Is there a special import function?

Hi Maria,<br /><br />I guess if you open the same catalog on new machine and all images are placed in same location then you should be able to view tags, but it is not a defined process and I have never tried it.<br /><br />Please note that catalog is placed at:<br />C:\Documents and Settings\<Logon name>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album<br /><br />P.S. If you want to move files from one system to another, then you can perform Backup --> Restore in Photoshop Elements. However Photoshop Album Starter Edition does not support these features.

I am not a professional photographer, I just enjoy editing and messing around with my photos and use them for paintings. Please don't give me serious tech advice to try; it may be beyond my level.

Thanks, Michel. I spent another hour working in PSE9, everything going well untill suddenly, it all vanished.
I got this message: "Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 quit unexpectedly. Click to reopen.
Below that message was the usual long page of computer-speak, including
"crashed thread: 0  Dispatch que: com.apple.main-thread
        Exception type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Does this tell you enough to have some indication of what's going on? I guess it could be my 3-year-old MacBook instead of PSE 9?
        What do you think?

  • PSA 2.0, PSE 3.0 und PSA 3.0?

    Hallo zusammen,
Hat jemand mal was läuten gehört? Gibt es offizielle Statements?

This is all very confused - bacause Adobe use complicated versioning.
The last version of PSA was PSA 2.
There is a giveaway version called PSA SE 3, which is mostly a subset of PSA 2.
The replacement for PSA 2 was Photoshop Elements 3 [PSE 3 - its Organizer component], which added more functionality and works fine with CS.
PSE 3 was then replaced by PSE 4 and PSE 4 by PSE 5.
    Forget PSA SE 3.

  • Convert psa-catalog from PSE 5.0 to actual catalog of PSE 13

If have a problem to get an old psa-catalog from Photoshop Elements 5 converted into a catalog of the new Photoshop Elements 13. The way the help forum describt it doesn't works, as in the convert-manager the catalog doesn't appears and the checkbox of the previous converted files is inaktive.

Thanks for the reply. I want to move the photos to my new Win 7 laptop and have everything arranged as before. I am asked if I want to restore to the "original location" or a "new location." I don't know if "original location" means on my old laptop or on my new laptop but filed and stored as before.
If I have to chose "new location" I have to "Specify Destination" and I don't know what to specify.

  • Should I uninstall PSE 10 after upgrade to PSE 11?

I just successfully installed PSE 11 to support my new Nikon D7100's RAW image files. Should I get rid of the older PSE version? Thanks!

It's totally up to you. You can if you want, but you don't have to. I'd leave it till you're sure there isn't some feature you preferred in PSE 10.

  • PSE 8 slows down when tagging and captioning

I'll start off will some system specs:
    i5 m450 @ 2.40ghz
    win7
    4gb memory
approx 200 gb of free hd space
running pse8 with approx 39,000 images, very small amount of video clips.
people recognition and auto analyze are turned off.
The issue is that when adding tags and captioning to multiple files the application slows down and sometimes freezes for short amount of time.
Would installing additional ram totaling 8gb help this out or does ram play any role in the performance of the application?
    Thanks in advance

PSE is a 32 bit application so it is unable to ever use 8gb’s of RAM. If adding information on import try firstly to add the files and start tagging etc after all the thumbnail previews have been generated. Otherwise break your workflow down into smaller batches.

  • PSE 11 - Cannot add people tags to photos from Media tab

I upgraded from PSE9 to PSE11 and now the tags are separated on the right side, with the people tags below a line from which you can no longer add these tags to photos.
How am I supposed to add people tags to new photos?
    Thanks.

To see imported keywords for people, in the Media tab click the menu:
    View >> People Recognition
To add new people tags click the button on the task bar Add People and let the software run.

  • PSE 9 (Mac) Organizer - Category Tag shows no pictures

I have tagged all my photos and have my heirarchy set.  If I click on an upper level tag, the organizer automatically "clicks" all the subordinate tags, and shows me all the pictures for those tags.
However, if I click a category tag, The organizer automatically "clicks" the subordinate tags as above, but tells me there are no matching photographs.
Shouldn't I see all the photos in that category?

    Thanks,
I am in Thumbnail view, and I checked all of the items in the link you provided.  I looked closer, and found that it is only the People category that has problems.  I moved some of the sub-categories to another temp holding category, and found that the problem disappeared when some combinations of sub-categories were moved.  But when all of the subcategories were moved to the new holding category, then the new one failed as well.  So there must be something about the specific set of circumstances in my library that is causing this to occur.  I think I'll just forget it for now and see if the problem still exists in the next release.

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements on an older Mac...just bought Mac Mini and migrated all my files...but 4.0 Does not work....can I upgrade PSE 4.0 to PSE 13?

Yes, any version of PSE qualifies for upgrade pricing, but if you're in the US you might want to consider running the trial  for now and waiting for the black friday specials, when the full version will be a lot less than the adobe upgrade price.

  • PSE 2/PSA 2 conversion to PSE 5 on new PC

I Just purchased and installed a new PC running MS Windows XP Media Edition. I am in the process of converting applications and data/picture files from my old MS Windows XP Home Edition to the new PC. Both Windows XP operating systems are up to date.
The old PC has PSE 2.0 and PSA 2.0.1 which manages just under 2,000 cataloged and tagged photos. I have not installed PSE or PSA on the new machine. Both PCs have a single hard drive c:.
I just purchased PSE 5, but have not installed it on either PC. What would be the best way to convert and copy My_Catalog with all the photos to PSE 5 on my new PC?
    a) On old PC, Backup My_Catalog to CDs (or flash drive) with PSA 2;
Install PSE 5 on the new PC and restore to c: on new PC
    b) Install PSE 5 on old PC and convert My_Catalog to new Organizer
    (however that might be done);
Backup catalog and photos on old PC with PSE 5 to CDs (or flash drive)
Install PSE 5 on new PC and restore My_Catalog
    c) Some other method?
I searched your Tips, Tools, How-to, and Techniques forum and did not find anything too definitive. I would sincerely appreciate guidance on this conversion before I start.

As no one has posted to this entry, I am thinking about doing the following to convert to PSE 5 and moving to a new PC.
    On my old PC:
    1. With PSA Ver 2, File/Reconnect_All_Missing_Files
    2. With PSA Ver 2, File/Catalog/Recover
    3. With PSA Ver 2, File/Backup the catalog and burn CDs
    4. Install PSE Ver 5. Hopefully, this will convert the PSA 2 catalog to PSE 5 format.
    5. With PSE Ver 5, Backup the catalog to CDs
    On my new PC:
    6. Install PSE Ver 5
    7. With PSE 5, Restore the PSE 5 backup CDs

  • Do I need PSE Catalog to re-install after upgrade to Win 8.1?

I was running PSE 11 on Win 7.
    I did a PSE backup.
Upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8.1.
    Reinstalled PSE 11.
But I haven't started the app yet.
All of my photos are in the correct folders.
    I have the PSE backup.
What do I do next? If I start PSE can I get it to rebuild a new catalog by using the info in the backup?
Or is there a better approach?
I only use one catalog. I have about 9,000 pictures in it.
Thanks for any help or advice.

In the newly reinstalled PSE, open the organizer, use the catalog manager (menu File / catalogs...) and see if you have one or several catalogs; a new empty 'My catalog' may have been created, but the old one may still be there in the same default location.
If that does not work, after setting the explorer to show hidden folders, do an explorer search for files named : catalog.pse11db. You may find the old catalog if it has not been wiped in the Win update. Simply double click on that file which will open the organizer with the corresponding catalog.
If you don't find such files, in the catalog manager choose the 'restore backup' option and restore to original location and keeping the folder structure.

  • PSE Upgrade

I have PSE 8 for Windows, however I am changing my computer to a Mac.  If I buy PSE 9 Mac/Win Upgrade will it work on the Mac or do I need to start again?  Any help would be appreciated

It depends on whether Photoshop Elements 8 is for Windiws ( which I presume it is as your using Windows). PSE9 upgrade covers mac and windows but as far as I'm aware is not backward compatible with an upgrade for mac (if that makes sense). 2 options come to mind:
    1) you buy the full version of PSE9 for mac and install.
2)Snow Leopard 10.6 (latest version of  mac software) has a programme called Boot Camp Assistant which gives you the aility to partition the Hard Drive on the Mac and install Windows on the 2nd partion ie a dual boot. Neither of the partitions will affect the other. From there you can install PSE 8 then upgrade to version 9 windows. Sounds complicated but is not as I've done in on my mac mini. This assumes that you have a Windows installation disc to e able to install with.
