PSC 500 won't print yellow (a few specific questions)

I have tried installing a brand new cartridge, cleaning the connections, etc.  The most common suggestion I've found is that I have two bad or "old" cartridges (manufactured in Puerto Rico, April 2007).  Before I go buy another costly cartridge, I have a few questions:
1) I colored an entire sheet of paper yellow in Word, then printed it.  The printer just spat it out without even pretending to print anything on it.  Does this in itself suggest either a printer or cartridge problem?
2) I recently installed a new black cartridge (a remanufactured or refilled one from simplyink.com--yes, I know that's not recommended), and I'm sure I haven't tried to print anything in color since then (until today).  Could an issue with the black cartridge possibly affect the color cartridge?
3) Regrettably, I can't say for CERTAIN that I've printed in color with the current cartridge; I can't remember when I installed it, but I'm ALMOST sure that I have.  This is another reason that I suspect something internal happened and it's not just the cartridge.  I hope I'm wrong, or that there's a fix that doesn't involve taking the old beast into a repair shop.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Okay, trying to figure out why no one will even look at this...I read the first sticky, so in case this helps in the etiquette department: I have searched, and haven't found answers to these specific questions.  My operating system is Vista, and my printer is connected via serial port.  I think I have done everything that's suggested.  Please, can anyone give me a hand here?

My OfficeJet Pro L7590 suddenly won't print yellow ink.  The cartridge isn't empty.  It still prints everything else.  Things that require yellow ink come out a different color (ie: green comes out blue).  I've cleaned the printheads several times from the "tools" menu and the report says the printheads are in "good" condition.  I've also tried soaking the printheads in hot water for 5 min like was mentioned on here.  Still nothing.  Any suggestions?

Hi - you've worked through all the steps in the support document here? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01957673&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
If you have, and still see bad red and green blocks on the PQ Diagnostic page (as described in the document), you may have to replace the black/yellow printhead (even if the printhead health is reported as 'good'). You can check your warranty on that printhead here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&docname=c00206040

  • Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Wireless suddenly won't print yellow; no error messages

Is it possible that a printhead needs to be replaced even when Diagnostics Pages all say "Printhead health:  Good"?   I don't have any error messages.  There are no obvious white lines through the colored blocks on test pages.  In a couple of blocks on some test pages, there is one, very fine, barely visible line, but it's not the same on all pages.  (Today I've printed about a dozen test pages of three different kinds that have colored blocks on them, and there are no white lines like the ones shown in examples of bad test results.)   I have used the tool for cleaning the printheads many, many times today and have cleaned at all of the levels.  The ink level in the yellow cartridge is fine, and it's been working well until yesterday and today.
The printing of the five colored blocks on test pages is good, bright, and clear.  The only problem is that the block which is supposed to be a light orange color is only pink, and the block that is supposed to be green is only blue:  they are lacking yellow ink.
I haven't had any problems with the paper I've bought at Staples for six years (I also bought my printer at Staples ).  The printer is six years old but has not been used hard.  I use it regularly for a page or two a few times a week, so the printer isn't sitting idle for weeks at a time.
I read something in "help" information about using a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the nozzle of a new ink cartridge, which didn't apply to my cartridge, but I decided to experiment anyway by pushing a pin through the nozzle of the partially-used, yellow ink cartridge,  The test page I printed after that is the page with just four colored blocks on it rather than the five blocks on a different test page.  This is the only time in two days that the yellow ink has printed.  However, it printed in a wide horizontal band a little streaked with gray in the middle of the block.  Then there are fairly wide white bands (no ink) both above and below the wide yellow/gray streaked band in the middle, and there are very narrow, yellow, horizontal strips  printed along the very top edge and the very bottom edge of the block.  In other words, the sequence of horizontal printing in this block only is:  narrow yellow strip, wide white band, very wide yellow/gray streaked band, wide white band, and narrow yellow strip.
It seems this might mean that some yellow ink actually got through after I'd poked the pin into the center of the nozzle of the partially-used ink cartridge?  However, when I tried printing the same test page again, there was no color, no ink showing at all where the partially-printed, yellow block had been on the previous test page.  There was only a totally blank, white space where the yellow test block was supposed to be.  The blue block, the red/pink block, and the black/gray block all printed well.
When nothing solved the problem of yellow ink not printing, I replaced the partially-used, yellow cartridge with a new yellow cartridge, but that didn't make a difference either:  the yellow ink is still not printing.  Yes, I use genuine HP ink cartridges.  I buy new ones whenever I need them -- never refill them or use any other brand but HP.
I used the alignment tool once to fix some slight wavering in the lines on a test page.  The lines are now perfectly straight.
I apologize for being so wordy, but I wanted to send all of the details that might help diagnose the problem.  I read other questions and answers in the forum about yellow ink not printing, but while there were some similiarities, none of them was 100% exactly like my experience with the problem.  What shall I try now?  Thank you for any suggestions.

    Good day.

  • Officejet9120 all-in-one won't print yellow

My brand new hp yellow cartridge C4838A won't print.  The 9120 display shows the cartridge is full.  The confirguration page output contains no yellow.  I have cleaned the print head, reseated the cartridge many times, aligned the print heads, calibrated colors (which of course didn't work because the yellow will not engage).
Until my last yellow cartridge expired, everything worked fine, yellow printed.  The three color cartridged all expired on the same day.  The new magenta and cyan are working fine.  It's just that pesky yellow that's a problem.
Anyone have a solution out there?  I'll appreciate your input.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that your HP Photosmart c6150 will not print black. I am happy to look into this issue for you!  According to this guide, Color Mix or Missing Colors on the Diagnostic Page, it states: Missing colors occur when the printhead nozzles dry out. Since you have tried cleanign the printhead multiple times, and the issue is still occuring, I would consider having the printer serviced/or replaced. Please contact HP, phone support for further assistance. (After you fill out the information, you will be given a phone number.) If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. • PSC 1410 won't print

The printer sounds like it works...the page go through but come out blank.  I get no error messages.
I have tried to print from a PDF, a web page and word and all pages come out blank.   The cartridges seem in place and with ink.
Any advice to get it to print?

  • HP8500a won't print yellow or blue

My printer was working fine and in the middle of a job all of a sudden stopped putting any ink on the paper.  I assumed it was out of ink and replaced the black ink, cleaned the print head, and aligned.  Then the printer said it was out of blue and yellow, so wash and repeat the above steps.  When I went to print again, only very little ink would print.  So, I tried several printhead cleanings as was suggested in a support article, but the print quality just continued to get worse.  Having come to the conclusion that I needed to replace the printheads, I turned off the machine and left it for about two weeks while I was on vacation, planning to buy printheads when I returned.  I tried printing again tonight just to see what would happen and black and magenta are printing absolutely perfectly, but there is no cyan or yellow on the paper!  And, my printer says those inks are almost empty!  I have done a few more cleanings & alignments, but as no blue or yellow is printing, where is that ink going??!?!  It is also now failing alignments. Any ideas or suggestions for where the ink is or how to fix my printer would be helpful.  Thanks!

It sounds like you have a cartridge issue, which you could verify by gently blotting the printhead on a damp tissue.  A good cartridge would have a strong blot of cyan, magenta and yellow.  I suspect your's will be missing cyan or yellow depending on the cartrdige.
Are you using HP cartridges or a third party refill/reman?  The latter often have quality issues, if you are using them I would suggest a genuine HP cartridge.  See the study here for information.

  • Hp designjet 500 won't print in landscape in mavericks 10.9.1

Can't seem to get my hp design jet 500 to print in landscape for arch docs in 10.9.1?  Any help?  Have tried letting mac detect it and add to printers. Have tried downloading the driver from hp, still no luck. Ugh!

I have this same printer and it will not print in landscape if it is selected for portrait unless i go into the control panel and change it like you suggested. When I change it to landscape it tries to print everything in landscape. It does not allow me to change when I click print then properties. Very annoying to have to do that every time i want to print a different layout.

  • Printer won't print after a few mnutes

Printer will consistently print just after it is turned on, but will NOT print after about 3-5 minutes. Printer goes to sleep but will wake up with a touch of the screen. If I try to turn off the printer, it often will not shut down without having to pull the plug. So, when I pull the plug and restart, if I'm quick enough, I can print. We have uninstalled and reinstalled the software both from CD and download 3 times with no luck. We have tried using the rinter wireless and with a usb cable--no difference. The printer also gets lost on my iPad and iPhone after this short amount of time too. What can I do...I am miserable! I have owned nothing but HP printers since the beginning of time!!! HELP!

    HI Kathyju,
Please check the firmware and if the firmware on the printer is older than the one mentioned in the link below, please upgrade the printer and check.
The below link provides you info on how to check the firmware of the printer. If you are not using the one mentioned in the link please upgrade to the new firmware available.

  • Yellow Ink Won't Print

I have a Photosmart Wireless B109n-z which stopped working a while ago because of a "carriage jam".  I've managed to fix that by a service/reset option (hurrah!) but now the yellow ink just won't print!  The printer is recognising that it's there as the levels are depleting rapidly - who knows where it's going though!!!  I've done a second level printhead clean but to no avail.  I replaced the cartridge with a new one today (my retailer very kindly gave me a new free one) but still nothing.
Any thoughts on what could be wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi @Gwen7,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your yellow ink will not print with your HP Officejet 8500. I am happy to look into this for you!
Please see this post, Re: 8500 won't print yellow, by my colleague @X-23.
If you have gone through the guide posted there already, and replaced the cartridge, the next step is to replace the printhead, and as my colleague stated there is a chance the printhead may not resolve the issue, and therefore a new printer is needed, if the printhead does not fix the issue.

  • 6500 All in One - Won't print in black, no error message

Twice now I've returned a black cartridge to Staples, thinking there was something wrong with it because the printer would print fine for the first 20-40 copies, then just stop.  When it happened a third time, I started thinking maybe it's not the ink cartridges.  The printer just won't print in black.  I can change the font color to blue and all's well.  When I try to print something in black, the printer ACTS like it's printing but nothing shows up except any color items.  The diagnostics don't show any problem, the printer has no error message, even shows the ink cartridge full (which it is) ... but it just won't print in black.

  • PSC 500 - Prints fine, but the scanner is not detected on the 64-bit version of Windows 7

Last week I decided to update my computer to Windows 7 x64 since my computer crashed. (It was pure dumb luck that I backed up my computer the night before.) Anyway, soon after I was done, I tried to install my HP PSC 500 (C6680A) and I was happy that It worked, however I soon realized that it lost it's ability to scan. I am not talking about the scan button that according to HP no longer works; I am talking about actual ability to scan from the computer.
Because my computer is telling me that I do not have a scanner connected and hp scanner drivers are missing from the list in the "Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard" and the printer is already installed, I believe I need a driver in order for my scanner to work.
If someone could post a 64bit driver (*.inf) for xp or vista, I can try to see if it will work it will work. (I don't think a 32bit won't work, but I don't know for sure.)

Sigh, I can't even make my HP PCS 500 print. I looked around for the deskjet 500 driver that HP says to use for Windows Vista 64-ultimate.
There's a 450 440c and a 5100 but 500 went poof. If you'd interally email me the link or post here.
Go to the printers folder, Add Printer, Local printer, LPT1, then when the selection comes up click on "Windows Update".  This will load the updated list of available drivers.  Be patient, it can take a few minutes.  Once the list is updated you will find the HP PSC 500 listed under HP (not Hewlett-Packard) in the printers list.  You can then cancel the isntallation and just plug in the USB cable to have the plug-n-play automatically install.

  • Hp psc 500 multifunction printer/scanner

I changeed my PC and the new one has not any paralell port, only USB ports.
There is a pralell-USP adapter or converter that works with my printer ?
    What solution do you recommend?

    Hi, buddy,
    don't waste your time
    legacy devices are dated
recently i also had a psc500 from my friend
(to him, that psc500 is a trash.  he bought a new model recently.)
my laptop/ notebook doesn't have a onboard parallel interface (LPT)
    i have two devices on hand, i.e. (1) usb-to-parallel cable; (2) pcmcia-parallel cardbus
first of all, you should have had the knowledge that XP has a tighter control over port I/O address remapping at driver level, that is to say, you can't have adapters assigned to legacy I/O addresses (LPT1=0x378, LPT2=0x278, LPT3=03BC).  But this is possible in windows 98.
The scenario now is that you won't find a usb-to-pareallel cable that is shipped with a driver for XP, but one for 98 is always available and thus I/O address remapping is made possible.  With this cable, a usb-parallel LPT port is created and I/O address remapping is activated.  Thus, psc500 prints and scans perfectly well in 98.  i guess that pcmcia thing will also work fine in 98.  Obviously, you don't need that pcmcia thing since a usb-parallel cable has been doing the job well.
Now, let's move onto the case with xp:
    - as that usb-parallel cable is not shipped with a driver for xp, you have nothing to do but to reply on xp's plug and play.
xp's plug and play only gives a something usb printing support device driver.
it only acts as a passing through (connection simulation) and neither LPT nor I/O address are simulated.
thus, psc500 only prints but won't scan.
    - as the case with that pcmcia thing:
    http://i3.6.cn/cvbnm/2a/12/a5/8db549119c08d9a462c2503174e9b723.jpg
it is shipped with drivers for 98 and xp
supports for both LPT and I/O address are given by the driver
but as i said above, I/O address remapping is not allowed at driver level in xp
thus, as shown in the screenshot, every piece of hardware and its relevant driver/ system file has been installed and are reported working properly.
but the entry "HP psc 500 scanner" won't move itself into the device category "Imaging Device", so psc500 still won't scan.
after all, i don't know why.
i still believe that the restriction on I/O address remapping causes the hiccup.
    Hope this helps
anyway, forget that legacy device ... it is dated!
