PSCS3 & Bridge CS3 complete crash-Help needed
After several months both PSCS3 and Bridge CS3 crashed. After several reboots with no success, I uninstalled everything.
I then reinstalled from scratch. Installed the updates. Now Bridge will not see previously viewed original CR2 files properly. No option to open directly to Camera RAW. When I go to my backup files, the CR2 files work fine.
From original CR2 files and backup files PSCS3 crashes when attempt to move from ACR to PhotoShop.
I am processing a photoshoot. Please help.

Adobe Bridge CS3 is crashing everytime it attempts to open.
I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.9.4. Today when I attempted to open Bridge CS3, it crashed. No error. Just crash. Repeatedly. I have deleted all Adobe and reinstalled, but Bridge continues to crash. I have used the "shift/option" menu to reset prefs, etc, and it still crashes. I downloaded a supposed patch for Bridge & installed it even though my APP store didn't want me to, and Bridge continues to crash.
I'm a photographer and depend on Bridge as my photo browser.
Any other ideas for me to try?Well, I don't know what just happened to the gremlins, but get this:
On a whim, I held down only the shift key while attempting once again to open Bridge. And it OPENED without crashing.
I was afraid to let up on the key...but I did and Bridge did not crash. I browsed a couple of photo folders, closed Bridge....reopened it WITHOUT the shift key & it opened. I've now tried that several times and it's not crashing. And while I'm glad it's working, I'm not holding my breath that it will continue to work. WEIRD.
I'm going to re-start the macbook pro and see what happens. -
Transferring Files Causes Bridge CS3 to Crash
I am using Bridge CS3 as a means of cataloguing a lot of imagery. I have gotten to about 2600 images in one folder and every time I try to drag more into the folder Bridge crashes. Any ideas on how much info a folder can handle, or bridge in general. I am saving these images to a Server so it is not a memory issue on my internal hard drive.
The last version of Bridge CS3 was 2.1.1.9. Make sure you are updated.
That being said, all versions of Bridge 2.x were downright awful, miserable, despicable and intolerable. It should have been fixed for free.
Fortunately, Bridge 3.x in CS4 is a different animal, vastly improved, but it's not free. -
Suddenly PSE 6 And Bridge CS3 Started Crashing
I've been using PSE 6 along with Bridge CS3 on an iMac for about a year and a half now with almost no problems what so ever. Yesterday Bridge crashed and today PSE 6 crashed twice inside of 20 minutes. Idid an update to iTunes and Quicktime about a week or so ago and an update to Flash a couple of days ago. Other than that nothing has changed on my Mac. Has anyone else suddenly starting having problems or is this just my own problem?
Thanks,
lmbNo, I haven't done that. I have never repaired permissions after installing auto updates. I'm not the sharpest on a Mac which leads me to this question:
how do I repair permissions?
Thank you much!

Xserve G5 crashing, help needed please
Hi All
I have an Xserve G5 which has become very unstable. I did post this in another discussion group but figure this one maybe more helpful...
The problem first occurred a few months back with Samba generating huge log files so this service was deactivated.
The CPU activity will go through the roof and the main culprits seem to be PasswordService and cupsd
The services running on the machine are:
AFP
DHCP
DNS
Firewall
FTP - Using CrushFTP 4.4.2
Mail - Using Kerio MailServer 6.4.1 patch 1 build 3801
NAT
OD Master
QLAServer 4.01
Web
The specs are:
Dual 2GHz G5 7GB RAM 10.4.11 Server
Xserve RAID connected
Tandberg StorageLoader connected via SCSI card, Retrospect runs every evening for a few hours backing up a server volume and client machines.
No video card installed so use ARD 3.2 if I need GUI access
I rebuilt OD last weekend and did the 10.4.11 update and all looked ok until both PasswordService and cupsd crashed around the same time on Tuesday morning.
Below is a snippet from some log files:
cupsd error log file is full of the following, approx. 12,000 lines
E 20/Nov/2007:08:07:32 +0000 Unable to accept client connection - Too many open files.
The cupsd access log file has thousands of this entry:
localhost - - 20/Nov/2007:09:50:14 +0000 "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 306
localhost - - 20/Nov/2007:09:50:14 +0000 "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 201
localhost - - 20/Nov/2007:09:50:14 +0000 "POST /jobs/ HTTP/1.1" 200 216
The ApplePasswordServer error log file is filled with the following, approx. 600,000 lines:
Nov 20 2007 08:06:17 Unknown listener exception error.
There are 5 35MB log files full of this error generated from the crash.
Any help in diagnosing this problem would be greatly appreciated and I will post more entries from any log files if needed.
Thanks very much in advance.
PaulShould confirm the Xserve is running 10.4.11
Kerio Mail Server is not running as an open relay and we do get a fair amount of junk mail intercepted by the spam filter which averages about 300-400 per day with an additional smaller number making it through to various users inbox. The mail server user accounts are all synced by LDAP so I assume the PasswordService crash stopped Kerio.
This afternoon java CPU cycles went sky high, which has happened a few times over the last month or so, and returned to normal after quitting the process in the activity monitor. Then found I could not send an email but stopping then starting the mail server fixed this issue.
The following in the console log from this afternoon:

The server had been running Retrospect for about 24 hrs before this occurred and will post the Retrospect crash log if needed.
My main concerns at present are:
Is there too much load in the server which is leading to these problems.
Could this possibly be a hardware fault, though nothing is indicated in the System Monitor.
Could this be triggered by an outside influence such as a concerted hacking attempt?
Many thanks

I would like Bridge, ACR, and PS to be able to read the metadata of pds/tiff files that are "developed" in LR when the metadata has been saved to the file inside of LR. Currently BridgeCS3, ACR 4.3, and PS CS3 don't see these changes.
The only way around this that I have found is to export or edit in PS option - both of which give you a new file. I don't want a new file - I want the original file (psd tiff) that was imported into LR to have the ability to be updated with the changes made in LR.
I have found that when you export the psd from LR it essentially flatens the image so you will no longer have access to any layers done in PS. Depending on how many edits you perform, whether they are done LR or PS, and the order in which you do them in directly impacts the amount of edit files you will end up with for the same photo. Your edit information then becomes scattered amongst all the different files instead of having one central file as a repository for the edits so you can backtrack if you need to (like through layers in PS and the history panel in LR).
I really like the LR interface and being able to drag with the different tools directly on the photo to edit. I just would like those changes to be reflected (once metadata is saved) amongst the other programs as well.I have tried saving XML files with Tiffs and the only way I have been able to get Bridge to see the metadata changes from LR's develop module is to export the file to PS or Bridge. On export the file becomes flattened so you do not have the access to any previous layers made in PS. Also once exported from LR, you are unable to see the files history log (LR) as to the changes made in LR that had been previously written to the metadata. And of course the flattened PS element so you have no way to back track in edits if you chose to do so.

Bridge CS3 now crashes when moving/copying files
As the title says.
A few days ago Bridge started freezing and I dumped the preference files from the user Library, the computer's Library and also the one in the "Save preferences" folder. Now it's giving me problems when moving/copying files with the 'Move to" and "Copy to" commands on the File menu. It works fine when I use one of the options on the "Recent Folders" list, but when I want to select a folder using the "Choose Folder" option, it just crashes.Hi Robert,
I'm a developer from Br team. Thanks for reporting Br. problems.
It seems like a memory issue. Please try this to help us identify the root cause:
1. Disable all startup scripts (Edit->Preferences->Startup Scripts->Disable All), then restart Br.
2. When Br is running, kill "SwitchBoard" process in task manager.
3. When do Copy&Move operations, don't use Drag&Drop, try to use "Move To / Copy To" menu. (A known issue of Bridge, should be fixed in later versions)
Does the crash still happens?
Thanks very much! -
Bridge CS3 Manage Color Help menu wrong
The Help menu says-
Preferences (Mac OS), and click Advanced.
Select Enable Color Management In Bridge.
HOWEVER, the options I get when I go to Preferences and Click advanced DO NOT have Select Enable Color Management in Bridge as an option, see enclosed screen capture of the Bridge Preferences.
Color is going very wrong on my Xerox DocuColor 240, so I'm reviewing the color workflow from input to output.I have already downloaded and installed profiles spefic to my Doc 240, however, I'm having trouble figuring out how best to make use of them. Information as to the interactions between ColorSync and CS3 would be greatly appreciated.Hi
Yes, that is not helpful anymore:P . That only applies to the original 2.0.0 build. The preference was removed and color management is On for all updates (2.0.1 - 2.1.1) when applicable. Draft thumbnails are not managed, along with some formats. This option also only described on screen display and has no impact on print output.
You will probably have better luck asking in the application forum that covers your printing output application, and or image editing/compositing application. Or maybe try the Color managementforum.

Computer Crashed - Help Needed!!!
Hi, my computer crashed recently and we had to have a new hard drive put in. There are a few things I need help with, I'll list them, any help would be brilliant! I've read a few posts on here to do with getting the songs onto iTunes, but I'm worried that I'll use the wrong information so if anyone can give me some help relating to my questions it would be great, thanks!:
1. I've just put the disk that came with my iPod into the computer. After typing in my information a box comes up saying "Please plug in your new iPod so that it can be configured. Make sure you wait a few seconds for the iPod to be recognised by the system. Click Cancel to skip the configuration step.". Now I'm not sure what to do here. If I plug it in will it wipe my iPod? I've got a load of albums on there that I bought on iTunes (which I havent backed up onto cd) and I dont want to lose them!
2. My next question is basically what to do next? Basically I'm not brilliant with computers and am worried I will wipe everything! I have a 20GB iPod and I have about 1000 songs on there.
How do I load the disk that I got with the iPod? Is this disk iTunes or is it just information (I've had my iPod for a couple of years and can't remember!). Do I need to load iTunes from the Internet or is it on the disk?
How do I get the songs from my iPod onto iTunes?
I'm totally confused! Help!!!!Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What kind of iPod are you using? 3G or 4G?
In your situation, yes, you should skip that step.
Basically the disk should install iTunes and the iPod software updater onto the computer. Our advice is that you should not use the CD but instead download the latest versions from the link above, and then install iTunes followed by the iPod software updater.
Then you should follow the instructions in this thread here to get the songs from your iPod back to the computer: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=797426#797426 -
Constant crashing - help needed...
My eMac has started crashing regardless of what application I am in - it is even crashing when I am on the desktop or in system preferences. When it crashes the screen goes all fragmented and I have to restart it using the power button. This is happening everytime I use the computer.
I have tried repairing disk permissions and I created a new user account, transferred my files across and deleted my old account but when I did this is crashed on me, although when it restarted it appeared to have deleted the old user account anyway.
I don't want to have to reinstall as I no longer have the original startup disc for 10.4.7 and I also cannot back up the 30gb of music and work files I can't afford to lose as my internal DVD writer has very recently packed in and it would be very time consumming backing up to CD.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
J MartinOK, I've been browsing through the forums and have come across quite a few posts mentioning the burst capacitors causing problems very similar to the ones I've been having.
I've checked system profiler and this is the most common error message I've been getting:

I've opened up the back of my eMac and it looks the one of the capacitors (with an X shaped vent) is bulging slighty and had a dried brownish substance on it.
Are Apple aware of this problem and if so what are they doing to fix it? Can I just phone them up (even though I am outwith warranty) to find out about this problem or am I likely to be charged their one-off incident fee?
If they aren't doing anything about it then does anyone know how much I would be looking at (in the UK) roughly to get this fixed as I can't afford to spend a small fortune getting the logic board replaced as has been suggested on other posts.
Thanks in advance
JeMx -
I have had relatively no problems in the almost 5 years I have had my G5. The last couple weeks pages have not loaded and the computer is continually crashing. I have copied this report. I hope someone can help me with the problem thanks, Date/Time: 2010-06-25 22:41:29.017 -0700

Bridge CS3 crashes with RAW folder, CS2 doesn't
I have this folder with all my recent RAW files, 319 shots. If I go to that folder with Bridge CS3, it crashes. I can however go to that folder with Bridge CS2 without it crashing, but I have to drag and drop the file to Photoshop CS3 to work on it. Clicking on the photo in Bridge CS2 just opens it in Preview.
I know it's not that big of a deal and I can still view/open my files with at least one of the version's of Bridge. It just frustrates me because I can't use the updated, and theoretically better, version of Bridge on my RAW files. I'm so used to being able to open up CS3, click on my file, and there it is open in Photoshop ready for me to do my edits.
I've tried toying around with preferences, and nothing works. I've tried dividing the files into sub folders, thinking it was the number of large files in one folder...worked for a while and eventually started crashing when I went to the folder that held the sub folders. Any suggestions as to what to do so I can use CS3.Hey mine does this too, some one please help!

Adobe Bridge CS3 - Favorites Disappear
Every time I open Adobe Bridge CS3 I set up my favorites folder just the way I want them; but when I close the program down and reopen it, the favorites menu has been cleared.
I tried saving my work space; But this was to no avail.
The work space layout stayed in place but the favorites are still erase when I load the work space.
Also, if it helps to diagnose the problem, when I try to open the preferences Adobe Bridge CS3 immediately crashes.
I've tried deleting the cache folder & I've tried repairing Adobe with the install CD with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Stephen K.Stephen,
Great when things work again; funny how you can try something and it does not work the first time; then magically it does - the joys of software!
I often wonder what the preferences file in Bridge does for us, if we can clear it and not notice that we have lost any settings.
I hardly use Bridge since I moved to Lightroom, except to check that Bridge sees what Lightroom does. But I must say that I like its Metadata panel.
If neither Bridge nor Lightroom existed, I think that I could survive on Photoshop CS3 alone and manage files without either. -
Problems with Bridge CS3 crash freeze and burn
Hi,
I am running Bridge CS3 version 2.1. 100 on a MacBook Pro 3
Intel Core Duo
2.4 GHz, 2GB ram
I am having some serious Bridge issues. My problems have ranged from it just being very sluggish and slow to Bridge not applying a label to random crashes.
So far today here are the issues:
"Operation Cannot be completed, an unknown OS error has occurred"
"EventHandler:2976"
Will not apply a label when using the command key or from the tool bar menu
Not responding when quitting from icon in the dock
freezes when renaming a file
unexpectedly quit while cropping an image in PS CS3
Things I have tried to resolve this:
shift-alt-command and reset all preferences and purged cache
changing the thumbnails preferences to only process 50mb or smaller files
create small thumbnails
(as a former pc user) I have restarted multiple times...
Things I have not tried:
rebuilding OS
uninstall reinstall
throwing laptop in bathtub
The files I am working on range in size from 4 mb up to 400 mb .psd files
Any ideas?I can't use Bridge CS3 anymore. It freezes on my screen and the only way to close it is with task manager. Had problems with it the first time I loaded it...a full version of CS3, no upgrade. Spoke with 2 Adobe technicians who tried to help, but being a believer in Murphy's Laws I decided to bypass their suggestions which I had already tried.
The best viewer alternatives to Bridge are:
-Fast Stone Image Viewer is shareware and handles .psd files along with RAW, TIFF, JPG, etc. Go to their site an look for yourself. It was so good I sent them the suggested contribution. Adobe could learn a lot from them.
-Use Adobe Lightroom as a viewer and to do preliminary editing before launching the file into CS3. Adobe got it right in Lightroom...how come not in bridge CS3?
-Nikon View NX is good but doesn't show .psd files.
Nikon's Capture NX is a reasonable alternative to CS3 if you get fed up with Adobe. Or go back to PS Elements!
Finally, some lecturing Photoshop gurus have called Bridge "JUNK...you get what you pay for." Correct.
Benefits of JUNK sofware is that you explore alternatives and can be surprised at what's available out there.
Conclusion: Bridge CS3 is meant to be a "bridge" to many PS products, but for me it's a "bridge to nowhere." Make it simple, guys.
