PSCS3 print output washed out

I have a one page composite document with photos and text that I have been printing for years without problems. Now when I print the document the colors are washed out, grainy, almost like it's in draft mode. I can't seem to find what setting has changed. Before, I just selected Print and used default settings, and the document printed beautifully.

The closer that your Monitor profile is to sRGB, the more likely you are to get a close match between Hex colors and your JPEGs when you view a web site in Safari.<br /><br />However, neither Dreamweaver nor Firefox are Color Managed so anything that you see displayed in them will be displayed using your Monitor profile (which will probably be different from everyone else's on the planet).<br /><br />And 98% of the people who subsequently view your site are going to be using non-color-managed Browsers and uncalibrated monitors so they will see something entirely different.<br /><br />Virtually all monitors now in use display "Millions of Colors" so the use of web-safe Hex colors is no longer necessary.<br /><br />I use GoLive in preference to Dreamweaver and in GL, I can specify colors using RGB values. <br /><br />Because my monitor is very close to sRGB; Safari, Photoshop and GoLive display the same RGB mix of colors almost identically.<br /><br />For example: If I specify the same 68R; 136G; 85B in GoLive that I used in Photoshop, it is then automatically translated by GL into html:<br /><color:#"#448055";>.<br /><br />Safari then displays the html color as a visibly identical match to the way that I see it in GoLive and Photoshop. But Firefox does NOT<br /><br />That is what we are up against with web work.

  • Quicktime output washed out

    Hi all,
The web seems rife with theory about this, but can someone explain why my output from the FCP timeline to a quicktime movie (using current settings, DV, HDV, doesn't matter, even ProRes) is washed out? The Enable Final Cut Color check does not fix this problem.
    What's going on here?

Thanks Steve, Steven and Todd for your responses. I am sorry that I hadn't mentioned my OS is Windows Vista with AE CS3.
Steve : In the output module, I selected Quicktime Movie format and by default the codec is H.264 which I think is the culprit for making the washed out mov. I then followed your advice to use Animation and the result was great! I'll try different settings for a better result. But I wonder why H.264 yields such a poor result as most movies nowadays use this codec.
Steven : I tried switching on "Match Legacy After Effects Quicktime Gamma Adjustments" in Project Settings, and left everything default, but the result was the same, e.g. the color of the rendered mov was lighter than the original.
Todd : I'll read carefully the information on the link that you mentioned.
    Best Regards

  • Color Laserjet 2600n: only red not printing properly, washed out on the left side

    Hello,
Our HP2600 Color Laser printer does not print well whatever includes the color red. On a portrait layout the 2" from the left are washed out in red. We only use new HP cartridges, clean the machine regularly.
Error happens with different computers, XP and OS 10.
Machine is about 2.5 years old, estimated 100,000 pages have been printed on it.
    Thanks
    Su

I have two 2600n color laserjet printers.
One has color fading down the left hand side and I understand that this is due to dust accumulating on mirrors and laser.
More worrying is that the second printer will not print the color red at all - it gives an orange output

  • Why does my Pages Brochure print all washed out?

When I print my Pages Photo Brochure the colors are all washed out. I edit my photos in Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and they print out with good color and resolution from PE10. Is there a color manager for Pages? I'm exporting my document as a PDF but even if I just drop a photo on a Pages blank page and print, its still washed out. The screen view looks great but print quality is bad. Adobe says its not their problem. I'm most appreciative of any help from the forum. I'm a new MAC user. Thanks in advance :-)Judy

Not sure I understand the question, "what is your screen"?
I have always "saved for the web" since I'm a Real Estate Photographer and MLS Web Viewing is important. I save at 300dpi. It worked ok for print when I was using MS Publisher to create my documents. My print colors were vibrant with good resolution.
When I print aphoto dierectly from PE10, it looks great, but the same Photo printed from Pages is faded and washed out.
In PE10 I have my color profile set to Adobe RGB. In one forum I read that Elements should be set to determine color instead of the Printer. It seems as though the PE10 color profile isn't available to Pages.
Perhaps PE10 doesn't save the color profile in the photograph?
How should the Photoshop Elements Profile be set up to work best with Pages so that my photos will be optimized when I print from Pages?
I continue to use PE10 because I shoot with a wide angle lens and need to be able to correct vertical distortions.
    thanks for your help! Judy

  • Brother printer prints pixelated, washed-out & over exposed only from PS & LR

Relevant info out of the way first:
    Brother MFCJ6910DW (Multifunction Color Printer)
HPZR30W Monitor (Just in case it's relevant)
Photoshop & Lightroom CC (Up to date)
    Windows 7 - 64bit
I honestly can't pin-point when this began happening but I know I didn't see it manifest while I had CS6 installed. My wife claims that she's had normal printing experiences since then but that this will crop up every once in a while, however this is all I've ever seen for the last few times I've tried to print directly from Photoshop or Lightroom.
I have tried changing color settings, letting the printer manage colors, letting Photoshop manage colors and selecting a few different color profiles while allowing Photoshop to manage the colors yet I get the same results every time. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and drivers. I've also uninstalled everything associated with the printer (support software, Control Centre 4, etc.) and re-installed everything fresh and still no dice. I'm using only Brother inks (not second-hand) and the printer is connected primarily via wireless (though I have tried with an Ethernet cable). I have also tried running the self-cleaning procedures, just in case.
I should note that I have no problems printing these same images from Windows Picture Viewer or while embedded inside a word document or Power Point.
You can find examples below. Originals on the left, scanned prints on the right.

You might be able to get something better by letting the printer manage color in this case - but that won't get you the best color quality.
The problem is in the driver code, apparently in the color management code path (since color managed apps are the ones showing problems) -- and that can only be fixed by the driver authors.

  • Docs print out washed out

All my InDesign docs are now printing out very washed out. If I export to pdf then print all is fine so printer is working ok. Have re-launched InDesign + re-started Mac. Any ideas?

    In InDesign check
    Edit>Colour Settings
Then in the PDF dialog box, check the Output settings and see what colour destination it's going to.
If the Indesign Colour Settings are different - then change them to the Output setting that the PDF destination has.
You will also have to Assign that Profile (through the Edit>Assign Profile) to the document.
Perhaps someone better at colour management settings could chime in and explain this better than I?

  • Printing Issue: Colors print fine from Photoshop but washed out in Illustrator

I am having trouble printing from Illustrator.  The same image...whether cut and pasted, opened in, or using the swatch created....prints differently in Photoshop and Illustrator.  I need to use this specific color (for branding purposes) and it prints fine in Photoshop but washed out and grey-ish in illustrator.
I've made sure the color settings are the same (in bridge) and made sure all the print settings are the same.  It is the same color on the screen, and in detail, but the print output is clearly different.  Any help please??

If I print from Acrobat, everything is washed out and greyed -  both the PDF from Illustrator and the PDF saved from Photoshop.
I tried letting the printer decide and I tried set to illustrator - both washed out and greyed.
Here are my settings in illustrator:

  • HP Officejet Pro 8100 - Washed out blacks in images / Dark blacks in text prints???

Here is my system: iMac Maverics OS, HP Officejet Pro 8100, Photoshop, Pages & Genuine inks.
I print a text page (Black and various colours) from Pages/Text Edit or any other text program and the colours are deeply saturated, blacks are black and I'm totally happy.
I print the exact same text, recreated in Photoshop, everything is washed out. Blacks are greyish, colours are pastel & it looks like it's been printed at 50% opacity.
I saved my Photoshop text mock up as a .Jpg .TIF .BMP and tried printing them in Pages & Mac Preview - same washed out results as when I print direct from inside Photoshop.
All my software is genuine, drivers are up to date. It's like HP use one process to print text and a whole other process to print images, **bleep** is going on???
Please advise on how to fix, if anyone else is having or has had similar issues.....

Hello @pA8100 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're experiencing Photoshop colour issues.  I would like to help.
It is possible you need to adjust the colour settings in Photoshop from RGB to CKMY.
I would recommend utilizing this article on How to Convert RGB to CMYK in Photoshop.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Photo Prints Yellow and washed out

I am having problems printing photos on photo paper.  I have windows 7 64 bit and all my hp software and drivers are up to date.  My printer is c5180 and I have not had any trouble in the past.  I upgraded to windows 7 in Dec., and have had several printing issues since then.  By the way, I really loved the photo premiere software that came with my printer, but is no available with windows 7.  I have tried printing from several programs including picasa, and the windows photo viewer, which I also don't like as much as windows xp.  I have tried several different settings, including the default everthing on automatic, messed with the color setting in the printer settup, and tried printing on 8.5 x 11 as well as my 4 x 6 photo paper.  If I print on regular white paper the colors are just fine, it is only when I use photo paper.  My photo paper is HP Premium Photo paper.  I have attached scans of two photos and you can see the one on photo paper is yellow and washed out whereas the one on plain paper has good coloring.  Do I need to change anything in color profiles?
I have no idea how to get my pictures to display.  They are on picasa web albums and I also tried to just drag them in.

Did anyone ever solve this problem?  I have the exact situation with my C5180 and I am about replace it.

  • Photosmart 8700 not printing Black & colours are washed out

Have an A3 Photosmart 8700 printer which has for no reason started to print in muted / knocked back colour and a solid black is now printing out as a washed out grey.
I've cleaned the printheads at all levels, tried a new cartridge, all of the normal things but cannot get it to work & cannot find anything online for this model.
In addition occasionally the printer will quit with a 'Filter Failed' message and I have to resend the document.
    Please Help! Thanks.

  • LaserJet P2015dn Washed Out Print

The cartridege and printer is brand spanking new.
Word, Excel documents print superbly. However, if I print something from a website it is barely readable, same for my email messages.
I use Gadwin Print Screen software and that results also in printing almost unreadable.
I'm slugging through the manual (sure do like those hard copies)
I sure would appreciate any help on this. Back to the manual I go
    Thanks in advance

Have the photos printed out in more vivid colors in the past or have the photos always been "washed out"?  You might also try the following document, just to make sure there isn't a problem with the cartridges:

  • Mac 10.6.8 is printing very light and washed out, however, the color prints fine from Safari and my husbands PC, help!

My Mac 10.6.8 has always printed great from Firefox to my Canon printer, but now the black and color is all washed out. I can print same page from Safari or my husbands PC and the page is great! What is going on! ?

    Other things to try:
Examine your specific version of Optima by going to Type menu > Find Font, clicking on the Optima font and choosing More Info (I think) and find the specific version number. See if you can uninstall the font and reinstall another Optima font with a different, preferably newer version number. There has (historically) been a bad version of Optima floating around for years. Maybe you have it.
Use a free utility like FontNuke or FontFinagler to get your Mac OS to reset its font plists. Sometimes that makes the OS feel better.
Use the built-in Disk Utility to repair file permissions. You never know.
Export your old document out to IDML and reopen that resulting idml file back into a new freshly written INDD file. This might remove internal database corruptions.
All these are chicken-soup things to try and they might be good for you.

  • Prints washed out after OS upgrade

Prints from my Epson R1800 appear washed out after the most recent Leopard updates. I removed and reinstalled the drivers with no improvement. This is the same performance I had when Leopard was new. Any suggestions?

Open System Preferences > Print & Fax and delete the printer again. Now, control-click in the empty printers list. A menu showing 'Reset printing system' will appear. Click this window. Now add the printer again and see if the quality has improved.

  • Washed out text when printing from Acrobat Help?

When I print PDFs from Adobe Acrobat all the text is washed out. It is supposed to be black but I get gray text.
I have the print settings at rich text black.
The print settings on Acrobat are 600dpi.
It is not a printer issue as I get the same problem with 2 different printer that are different makes and models.
It is a high resolution PDF with no image compression.
The file prints fine from Indesign.
I am running Acrobat Professional 8.2.3
I am running CS 3 master suite
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks
    Trevor

IF, (and that is a big if) the pdf is create some some type of text (word open office, pages, etc)  then open PDF  in acrobat and click on Touch up text tool
(a Samll button with a capital "T" on it -without quote marks).
Click on select all. then  File menu look for Properties. click on properties
when window opens click on appearance tab.
choose color by clicking on colored block. choose black.
IF your document then your out of luck there are no fonts just a drawing of what appears to be fonts. You might use OCR on Document but then not all Characters might ocr so you would only be partially successful.

  • Compressor DPX output from Prores (4444) QT is washed out, can I fix this?

    Hi all,
I've been trying to use compressor to convert quicktimes to DPX, but have noticed that the DPX files rendered out are all washed out.
I imagine this is because compressor is doing a video/lin to log conversion. Is there anyway to avoid this? I simply want compressor to do a file conversion so that the DPX look as closeas possible to the original prores source.
I've looked through the settings, but there isn't much to play with. Anyhelp would be very much appreciated.
    JT

plus one. for now i use color, works well actually but being able to export "linear 0-1024" dpx from the fcp timeline would be nice, and of course saves a render step. gluetools seems to work but unless you use it a lot a bit too expensive.
