Psd file corrupt

My psd file corrupt in CS6. What might be the solution??

This is the user-to-user discussion forum on Adobe Audition.  I presume there is a similar forum for Photoshop?
Since your question is to do with a Photoshop file you need to re-post it there.

  • PSD file corrupted!

I was working in a project for a client, when the lights go out.
When  the computer start again, I see that my PSD file is there, I can see a  thumbnail preview, but when I try to open with Photoshop CS5 (the same  that I used to create it) It says:"The file is not compatible with this  version".Any help will be welcome. I really need that file!!!.
    I'm using Photoshop CS5 on Windows 7 (64 bits).

I sense a small trend of people who were working in Photoshop when a power failure occurred then they lost their saved PSD file.  Unless you were actively saving the file at the moment the lights went out (or just seconds before), the file already saved on disk should NOT be affected by a power failure.
The only things I can think of that would lead to this are:
Data in memory not yet flushed to disk.
Corrupted file system as a result of other activity when the power failed.
Bad PSD saved in the prior save operation.
I know this is an old thread, but perhaps Pepe will see it...
WERE you saving just before or or right at the moment the power went off?

  • PSD File Corrupted - Lion Incompatibility???

Well, yesterday I worked normally in these files, but now when turning on the computer, some files were changed.
Some PSD files, filled with layers, as is commonly used in Photoshop, but, today, strangely turned into a flattened layer with the image entirely unintelligible and meaningless.
    http://twitpic.com/60sub6
This happened to anyone else? Any solution? It would be an Lion incompatibility or a bug to the Photoshop CS5.5?
If anyone has any answer would be grateful.

You guys are scaring the heck out of me...
I just found this thread because my PSD has become corrupted too, but its not just the PSD--its the other saved flat jpgs I saved out from it. The some of jpgs can open but a couple of them are jumbled (portions of the image repeated onto itself). I get an "end of file" error" with the ones that wont open. The PSD file give me a "not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error, which is obviously wrong (created in PS CS5 12.0.4).
I checked older files using my Time Machine backup and is goes all the way back to the first day I created the file in the beginning of the month. Not sure how that is possible, as I have used the file with no problem inbetween.
I am petrified to start opening other files but I have hundreds of thousands of them on my drive (and backed up on TIme Capsule) and I may never know the extend of the damage here.
THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS HERE. Apple wont give a $h1t, so Adobe PLEASE look into this.

  • PSD files corrupting without opening them.

I am an experienced Photoshop user. For many years I have been bringing psd files home to work on using various external hard drives. My work computer has PS CS2 and will soon be updated to CS5. My home computer had CS4 updated to CS5 a couple of months ago. I use the external drive at work to hold my psd work files. They open and save normally at work and I have never had a damaged file.
For the past several months when I take my hard drive home and view the photos in Bridge many to them are damaged with what looks like shifted color layers. This is without opening the files-only viewing them in Bridge. The files will open sometimes with a damaged file warning, sometimes not but always with damage. The damage usually only affects one layer.
Sometimes, but not always, I can take the home damaged file back to my work computer and have it open normally with no damage! Has anyone seen this before and knows the cause?

Look for red Error entries.  Disk failures, for example, are pretty obvious - they say stuff like "Drive 0 detected a bad block and recovered".
Ideally a system shouldn't accumulate any Error entries, though in practice there will probably be some that are unavoidable.

  • Windows Updates causing PSD files to corrupt?

I was curious as to if anyone else has ever had an issue with Windows Updates performing (possibly the updates that came out this week for various Microsoft products) in XP causing PSD file corruption in certain files?
The situation I'm looking at is that one of our users' computer had an update, which installed yesterday. Suddenly, 2-3 PSD files (which I am able to open on my own computer) are giving an error when trying to load of "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." Tried recreating the prefs folder to no avail.
The only solution that worked was performing a system restore to a previous date. However then today the computer reinstalled the update again and the files appeared to corrupt again and not open. Other PSD files are still opening fine (as well as importing via Place in Illustrator), its just these particular few that are not (they will not place in Illustrator, giving a similar error message saying it is not a valid file type).
Any ideas, or anyone else having similar symptoms?

    Hi,
Uncheck all updates with drivers and check will this help or not.

  • Photoshop CS 5.1 - can't open psd files

    Hi,
I have Photoshop CS 5.1 32bit and 64bit (running on 64bit windows), and sometimes it happens that I can't open files (jpg, psd, ...) in it. When I drag and drop a file to photoshop, or click on Open file dialog, or even try to make a new document, nothing happens.
I have tried tricks with deleting preferences, but it didn't help. The only thing that helps is restarting windows - but this is not a practical solution for me.
I would expect some help from Adobe on this, since we pay a lot for their products!
    Thanks,
    Marek

    Hi, Marek,
Unfortunately this is a forum for the CommunityHelp application and not a Photoshop forum, so there isn't a way to get an answer here.
Might I suggest that you describe your problem in a Photoshop forum such as:

  • Is there a way to recover corrupted psd. files?

I recently transferred all my work from a work computer to my mac at home. i am unable to access my work computer until October as we are having a 'break'. However, I have a deadline for September 15th and I need all my files.
Some older files open perfectly fine but I fear there was a problem in downloading-perhaps due to my haste to leave and enjoy the beautiful weather!
I tried downloading a Remo Repair software but unfortunately this was unable to launch. Is there program out there that you would recommend in this instance for me to recover my psd files-which are of great importance!
    Any help would be appreciated
    Basic notes:
    Created on Windows computer cs5
Trying to open on Mac cs5
Sd card used to transfer-couldn't eject, this may be the problem

It is most difficult to recover a corrupted file.  Many have tried but almost all end up in failure.  Try opening in another program.  IF you can then "save as" and you can probably open in PS.
Do you have a backup?  Do you still have original files on Win computer?  These are your best bets.  It is too late for these files, but I think you can see the necessity of having a backup on a separate HD or even on a disk.

  • Psd files are getting corrupted

    Hi
I am using PSE11 on a Mac, and have experienced PSD files getting corrupted twice now.  They are digital scrapbooking files, where I have started with a layered PSD file 'template' and personalised it (with lots of effort!).  I save it and close it.  Later I try and reopen it and it will not open.  The Adobe Photoshop Elements dialog box says 'Reading Photoshop Format' but it just gets stuck - the progress bar does not move beyond 1/3.  This is really bothersome as last time it happened I had no option but to start over and redo the layout.  Any ideas or suggestions as to why or how this might be happening?  What could I do about it?  I am reluctant to reinstall PSE, as I prefer version 11, have no disc, and last time it took many calls to Adobe to be directed to a place where I could download it (they kept telling me I would HAVE to buy the latest version.
    Thanks, J

A little more info about the files and just how you're saving them would help, as would info about your version of PSE. What color space are the files? Have you reset your PSE preferences?

  • PSD file worked fine month ago - now corrupted

    Hihi,
Suddenly I can´t open a psd file I saved on the 24th of January, I opened it im march but
now I get this error window:
COuld not complete your request because the file
is not compatable with this version of Photoshop
the file name is litun.psd (non unusual characters as u can see or none spaces)
Is this file permanently damaged or can I do something to open it?

    Welcome to the forum.
I assume that this file WAS Saved from your version of PS. Is that correct, and which version is that?
Was the PSD Saved to an external, or networked HDD? If an external, what is the connection type, USB 2.0?
Over the years, there have been utilities touted to "recover" PSD's that have become corrupt, but I have not ever used any, and they seem to go, as quickly as the come. You might want to do a Google Search, or terms like "PSD recovery," etc. and see if there are any reviews of the utilities.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • All my .psd files are corrupt after a pc restart...

What the hell?!?! What could have caused it and is there any chance I can restore anything ... Everything on my pc seems ok but the psd files ...
"Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document."
    This is what I get
I am using Photoshop CC on Windows 7

It sounds unlikely that multiple PSD files have become corrupted.  My first thought when seeing the thread title was a bad Windows FAT (File Allocation Table) but even that sounds unlikely to only affect PSD files.  So I'd be looking at the common denominator, which is Photoshop.  Have you tried creating a new document, and saving and reopening?
I think I'd try opening the files with another app like Irfanview, or just reinstalling Photoshop.  Do you have the files backed up?

  • I was using photoshop CC as normal, when suddenly it started going haywire. It has corrupted all the one PSD files by distorting the images and colour. Does anyone know how to recover the original images?

I was using photoshop CC as normal, when suddenly it started going haywire. It has corrupted all the open PSD files by distorting the images and colour. They are now completely unrecognisable and unusable. Does anyone know how to recover the original images as I was saving them as I went along but the files are now corrupt?

What version of Photoshop are you running?
I've seen a couple of instances over the last week or two where Photoshop has added masks, strange colours and also merged content from two separate PSD files that were open at the same time.
This has occurred on two different iMacs, (both 10.10.x) running Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 (20141204.r.310 x64).
    see image below for example:

  • Corrupt Black PSD File

    Morning all,
I have a large psd file 239 megs, when I opened this morning it was black and all layers where gone. Has anyone had this problem and is there a solution? It would be very much appreciated as a lot of work has gone into the Image.
    Cheers

Did you get any error messages when opening the file?
If so, it's probably corrupt on disk.
If not, then it was probably saved that way and you might be looking at the wrong file (same name, different directory maybe?).

  • Photoshop CS4 11.0.1  crash upon save, leaves small sized corrupt PSD file

    Hi!
I've just updated our retouchers Photoshop CS4 to 11.0.1 but one of the issues we had with 11.0.0 remains. The problem doesn't happen that often, but since the result is an unusable .PSD file it's pretty nasty...
Sometimes when saving Photoshop crashes and the .PSD that was to be saved becomes a small (68 KB in the last example) and unusable.
    The hardware/software we have:
Mac Pro 2.66 GHz (some with 5 GB RAM and some with 9 GB RAM)
    Mac OS X 10.5.6
Photoshop CS4 Standard (updated to 11.0.1)
People work on server volumes shared via AFP. I've heard saving over the network isn't supported, but there's no other way, plus this issue never happened in CS3 so...
Any ideas on what can be done?

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that
    normally, it does work
, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • How do I recover a corrupt PSD file?

My last save of a 1.5GB PSD file went without a hitch. Routine save, as I always do before closing Photoshop (using CTRL-S). The save was not interrupted in any way, nor did it behave differently than it did the previous 100 times I saved this particular file.
However, upon reloading, now the progress bar stalls at appx. 30% before the thing gives me a disk error.
I have 600GB and 700GB free on both of my hard drives, so disk space is not the problem.
I tried loading the file with both Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 64-bit Edition. Both produce the same results. Disk error.
    Rebooting did not change anything.
I tried copying the file to another location, but I get a "Cannot read from source disk" error.
But it's there, seemingly full size, with two weeks worth of work in it.
I ran a Google search for PSD recovery tools, and there are several commercial products claiming to be able to help. But I wanted to know if Adobe provided one first, then if anyone ever tried any of the other tools out there and saw it actually work.
    Thanks!

I mean, these are all "Bad Block" disk errors. What's the worst that can happen?
What non-Windows repair tools have I advised you to use?  I suggested a full System Image backup, using Windows Backup.
It's not a software problem, it's a confirmed hardware failure.  Software repair tools will not fix it.  This is experience talking.
The worst that can happen is that the drive will fail completely and you will lose all your data.  And yes, even Caviar Black drives do fail.
If something under the hood of your car goes boom and you lose power, do you just floor it to maintain speed so that you can keep driving?  No.  You stop immediately, to take the stress off your engine so that you don't compound the problem.  Something like a CHKDSK /R would exercise heck out of your drive - the very thing that's failing.  Is that really what you want?
