PSD file looks blurry after render

Hey all,
I've got a PSD logo (CS2) with an alpha channel. I'm dropping it on top of video (DV NTSC) with a Magic Bullet filter applied to the video. The PSD file looks crisp on the computer monitor until I render. Then it looks like I've applied a gaussian blur to the PSD file. I'm not working with an NTSC monitor so I'm not sure what's going to happen when I print to video. What's causing this?

The codec you are working with. A nice sharp image, when rendered in the DV codec, for example, will get VERY soft.
But you need an NTSC monitor to really see what it looks like.

  • Photoshop file looks fuzzy after render

I have an RGB Photoshop file over a white color matte over video. It's text I created in PSCS2, nothing rasterized, with transparency. When I bring the PS file into the timeline it looks crisp and legible, but when I render to preview the timeline, the text gets fuzzy and it starts to look pixelated on the monitor like when you start scaling up too much. I have my RT set to high as well. Any ideas?

what color is the render bar in this portion of the timeline? if its bright green then what you're seeing during playback is the realtime "preview" quality, not the fully rendered quality as you see when the playhead is parked
another issue you should consider is the placement of the graphic. in the motion properties make sure its placed on a whole even numbered y cordinate, otherwise you may see a slight softening of the image due to interlace issues (unless i'm confusing this with a diferent issue)

  • PSD file blurry after render

I've posted this before and never could figure it out. It's only one PSD file that's doing it. I've tried changing the sequence settings to "render all yuv material in high precision yuv" and that did nothing. The vertical is divisible by 2, I checked and unchecked everything in the sequence render settings and my PSD still gets blurry after I render.
It's an 8-bit RGB and was originally an Illustrator file (RGB as well) that I converted to a PSD's. I have 13 other files and so far I've tried 2 others and they get blurry as well, but not as bad as this particular one. Please HELP!

Mike, you're probably right. But I seem to have this problem whenever I bring in psd's. And I keep trying things until something works. Unfortunately, I don't do this often enough to remember what the solution is. Perhaps editing the psd into a seperate sequence with field dominance set to none and then edit that sequence into your complete sequence. I know that I've solved this problem, just can't remember how. but resetting the field dominance to none will at least show the OP if he's on the right track.
I'll try the freeze frame thing next time, if I can remember....

  • Pages documents look blurry after updating to iOS 8.3

I use the iWorks apps a lot, after updating tonight to iOS 8.3 I discovered that the display of all the documents from Pages looks blurry, and when I open a document it looks still blurry, is there a way to fix it?, Am I the only one having this trouble?

Just got off the phone with Apple Tech Support, including a Pages specialist. No solutions so far but there have been other complaints. The initial technician had to look up under iWorks rather than Pages. The Pages specialist is filing a report but suggested it would speed things along to go to apple.com/feedback, scroll down to iOS Apps, select Pages, and file a bug report online, which I just did. The more of us willing to file an online bug report the faster the fix. Be sure to include the version number of Pages (Settings/Pages). I checked other native iOS apps (Safari, Mail, Notes, Calender, Contacts) and they are all fine. I updated my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 to iOS 8.3 and Pages text is blurry. I did not update my iPhone 5c. It is still running iOS 8.2 and Pages text is perfect. All are running the latest version of Pages (2.5.2). So the problem is definitely with the 8.3 update.

  • Higher res pics placed or dragged into a 72 dpi .psd file are blurry

I have a project in which I am designing a website in Phtoshop at 72 dpi. Everytime I bring in a photo be it an AI file, or jpeg or even tif that is much, larger than the 72 dpi .psd file I am working in, the image becomes blurry as I scale it down. Why is this and what then should I be doing to get my images crisp for a final file that will be used to slice out web assets during the build.
    Help please.

    Just some idle thoughts:
One good trick is to sharpen images a bit heavily at higher resolution, then downsample them (e.g., using Bicubic) to the final pixel dimensions, then maybe add just a touch more small radius Smart Sharpen.
Another consideration is that maybe you want to start thinking about publishing images at higher pixel dimensions and using HTML to downsize them.  This has the advantage of the images holding up well when browser zoom is used.  Consider what people do when they want to see something more clearly on an iPad, for example - they use a reverse pinch gesture to make it bigger temporarily.  It's more impressive if when one does that the image shows more detail.
Trying to have this stuff just happen automatically by dragging and dropping simply removes your fine control over how the image looks.

  • Why do my Creative Cloud files look blurry and bad when previewing them?

PDF, PNGs, AI and PSDs all look like very poor quality, compressed JPGs when viewing on Creative Cloud files website or in the iPad app. You can even see the low quality JPG-like compression artifacts all over the files. Nothing is sharp. Would really like to be able to use the cloud to preview files to clients, but the quality is just not usable. Would like to know if others experience this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The thumbnails are fine. The problems start when I click on the thumbnails to view the photos. See my long comment above. Thank you.
I meant the mismatch between thumbnails and photos, sorry. In addition to broken rotation tags, that Winston Churchill pointed out, the database entries with the applied adjustments may have become corrupted. Repairing the database will at least ensure, that the database entries are correct.
Are you shooting RAW?  Then consider tor reprocess your RAW files. The Help recommends that, if your photos have been edited in another app, for example iPhoto.
    Reprocess imported RAW files
If you import RAW files that were already processed by another app, such as Aperture, the RAW processing of the photos might be out of date. If you’re happy with how a RAW photo looks, you can leave it as is, or you can choose to reprocess the RAW file with the most recent version of Apple’s RAW processing software. Note that your photos may look different after reprocessing, and you cannot undo this change.
Double-click a photo to open it, click Edit in the toolbar, then choose Image > Reprocess RAW.

  • No new PSD file in Lightroom after Edit in Photoshop

As usual, I send a NEF from LR 5.6 to Photoshop CC2014 (ProPhoto RGB) but a new PSD shows up in LR after saving/closing in PS? (Mac)

Lightroom works in a completely different way than Photoshop or other pixel editing programs. In order for you to edit that PSD file has to be imported into the Lightroom catalog. It might be to your advantage to just use Photoshop, if you have it, because understanding how Lightroom works is essential in order for you to be effective.
If the PSD file has a text layer, you will not be able to access It separately using Lightroom. Lightroom does not use layers, and you cannot work with text like you do in Photoshop. I just believe, based on what you have told us, that Lightroom is probably not a good choice for this particular project.

  • All my .psd files are corrupt after a pc restart...

What the hell?!?! What could have caused it and is there any chance I can restore anything ... Everything on my pc seems ok but the psd files ...
"Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document."
    This is what I get
I am using Photoshop CC on Windows 7

It sounds unlikely that multiple PSD files have become corrupted.  My first thought when seeing the thread title was a bad Windows FAT (File Allocation Table) but even that sounds unlikely to only affect PSD files.  So I'd be looking at the common denominator, which is Photoshop.  Have you tried creating a new document, and saving and reopening?
I think I'd try opening the files with another app like Irfanview, or just reinstalling Photoshop.  Do you have the files backed up?

  • Imported screen capture file looks blurry

Hi, I am re opening an old post, because I didnt find any answer.
The post is from 9'th of May 2008:
"I'm using a demo version of iShowU to record my computer screen. The resulting .mov file looks great! However, when imported into FCE and rendered, the quality is not nearly as good. It becomes blurry and the text is choppy.
I have tried several preset and a few custom settings in iShowU. Almost all of them produce a great looking movie when playing in Quicktime. But none of them look good in FCE 3.0. They look passable, but not as good as I had hoped.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Mike
I have the same problem, using the FCE 4.0. I am struggling with this for two weeks now and still couldnt find any solution. I would really appreciate if somebody could help me,
    thanks in advance,
    Michał

Thanks for Your answers, it were inspiring
I think I have the answer.
    1) You should use Animation codec, instead od dv pal or dv ntsc
do not scale it or resize if You plan to edit it
2)In FCE You MUST choose in the sequence preset, one of Apple Intermediate Codec. Using any dv preset, will cause blurring.
(I don't know how it works in FCP, any info will be greatly appreciated)
in FCE all apple intermediate (as HD ) are in 16:9 aspect ratio, i wonder how can I make screencast in 4:3?

  • My .psd file was crashed after a blackout

    Hi,
I was working on a .psd file (opened in PaintTool SAI) when there was a blackout so my laptop was crashed. When I opened it an hour later, the .psd file was ruined; all layers flattened to one black background layer; and no matter how many programs I tried to open the file, it's still the same black image.
Is there any possible way to recover my .psd file before it was crashed?

Do you have a backup strategy?  In other words, do you have a process that makes copies of your work - e.g., every night - to another location.
You don't usually need extra software to do this, but it's surprising how many people just don't bother setting up backup, and now you know a situation in which it could have helped.

  • Jpegs look blurry after crop at fit to screen but are fine at 50%... Why?

I recently upgraded to CS4 and have system 10.6.2.  Jpegs appear blurry after cropping at fit to screen but are fine at 16%, 50% or 100%...  My CS2 version never did this. Anyone know how to fix this bug?
    Thanks

Your resolution (in the pic) is likely set to 72PPI. In smaller JPGs when they are enlarged to full screen, they will appear pixelated or blurry.
Before cropping, try setting the PPI to 300.
I had to do this when making PNGs for conversion to icons, because they would blur when converted. I set almost everything I do to 300PPI.

  • Why do Adobe Illustrator files look blurry when Replicated?

When I replicate a group of Adobe Illustrator files, the Replicator output is blurry.
Take a look at this screencast for more details.
I've turned off Fixed Resolution for each layer. The group of AI layers scales fine and stays crisp at any scale. However, when I replicate the group, the output is blurry.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I'm moving down the question list
In the Replicator inspector, turn on 3D. Turn on Best from the Render > Quality menu.
Also, if you're exporting to a movie file and you're working in Normal or Draft quality settings, in the Export dialog, make sure to click the Render option button and set Render Quality to Best as well.  Sometimes it's easier to work in Normal, especially if you're using emitters and render out at Best. With the export dialog, you can make "final decisions" to the render separately from your workflow. (Export is set to "Use canvas setting" by default.)

  • Video Looks Horrible after Render?

I am working in a HDV 60i timeline with a mix of 60i and 30f codecs. The video looks great until I render. Once the video is rendered it gets really pixelated and ugly. I usually just export without rendering but when I tried it with this video it took about 15 hours and the final result looked exactly like it does after I render. I checked the render settings and they all looked they they are set to the highest quality. When I dump my render files in the timeline the video goes back to looking good? What the heck?!! Please help!!!! I am using FCP 6.06 Thanks.
    Jeremy

So that is what is weird. The long export looks great now, (after exporting the smaller pieces, and then bringing the smaller pieces back and exporting the long one) The video looks great, plays great in both quicktime and final cut pro. The file doesn't appear to be corrupted...But after 4 different attempts at compressing to Mpeg2,(on different computers) the video crashes while in compressor. This is the error I am getting. 3x Crash Down. Sorry I kind of combined by two problems, but the problems were essentially the same. Here is a link to my other post. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2363793&tstart=0
This is my normal workflow I use all the time. I have heard your not supposed to use HDV and change to Apple Pro Res, but the HDV workflow works 98% of the time. I tried a couple different settings with the Apple Pro Res, but it seems degrade the image quality quite a bit. I am about to try the Adobe Media Encoder.
Thanks again for your time. Jeremy.

  • Clips look worse after render

    Hello,
I have added the Color Corrector and RBG Balance filters to my clips, but once I render the timeline, the clips look worse than when they are not rendered. (I play through the time line before I render, and it looks great.) They look really grainy after rendered.
    Running FCP 6.0.2
    QT 7.4.1
    I used the Easy Set up -> HDV-Apple ProRes 422 1080p24
Clips were shot in 24f with XH A1
    Sequence settings:
    Frame size: 1440x1080 16:9
    Rate: 23.98
Render Codec: Apple Pro Res 422
Do I have my settings right?
I appreciate any help on this!

It depends what you are doing with the color correction. Raising the blacks/mids too high will introduce noise in itself.
Another factor is how you are monitoring, FCP always uses a lower res proxy image to better enable real-time playback. You can only really assess the quality on an external pro monitor or at the very least, an excellent TV

  • Crystal clear b4 render,... blurry after render

Everyone is saying to render the timeline so I wont have the problem of the blurry pictures, but they look perfect before I render. When I render is when it becomes blurry now. I have tried to mess with these settings to figure it out. Is there a way to go back to default and start over. I am really not familar with this program. I usually use imovie, but the person I am doing this video for was not happy with how the quality of the pictures came out on that program. At first in Final cut, they look great, so I just do not understand it! Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!
