Psd file wash out when add transparency to page

HI,
I've had a noticeable yet unknown problem, and today I figured out why, but now need help fixing it.
Working with CS2
When I import a grayscale psd file into ID, it gets washed out when I add a transparent element to the page. My page started out in the page Window as a solid white background, and changed to transparent when I added the transparent element next to it. At the same time, my nicely contrasted grayscale psd image (contains levels adjustment layer) became washed out and lighter. This is the first time I've actually watched it happen as I added a transparent element - probably because often transparent elements are added before my photos.(this explains the poor image quality I've had in the past - always thought it was a calibration issue on my monitor).
So my question is, how do I get the page (icon in the pages window) to be solid white again? or at least not weaken my grayscale images?
I had a printout before I added the transparent box, the image printed nicely. Now the image prints washed out just as on the screen. (printing using "Send All Data" for image output.
I'm working in Doc CMYK, transparency flattener is set to Doc CMYK, turned on overprint preview, tried isolating the blending, knocking it out, re-placing the psd file, adding a solid white box behind it (a no-no, I know, but was for testing purposes) all to no avail.
I'm sure there must be a setting somewhere, but I'm not finding it.
I'm grateful for any help I can get!

How are you printing? Are there any CMYK elements on the page?
Most desktop printers are really RGB devices. You may find you get better results if you change the transparency blend space to RGB.

Try opening the AI file in FW instead of saving as a PNG in
    Illustrator.
Been a long time since I've used FW MX, so I can't recall
    what support
    it has for AI files.

That depends on why it won't open.  Most of the time it means the file is corrupted and unlikely to be recovered. If you saved it right after adding or copying a LOT of layers - then it might just be the layer limit and we can attempt to recover it.

  • QTs are washed out when rendered.

    HI there
I'm rendering out through AE (v12) and through numerous codecs - animation,H264, ApplePro, tiffs, etc.... - and all QTs look washed out when compared to the AE project. Does anyone have a solution or know the cause of this? (OSX 10.8.4 & GeForce GT650M)
    Any help appreciated.
    E

Tiffs and Targa sequences still seem to drop less so.
When importing the rendered QTs back into AE they appear less washed out/desaturated within the viewer than they do with the QT player. Obviously one or the other is causing the main problem, but both seem to be playing a part.

  • PDF files break up when scrolling down the page

Embedded pdf files break up when scrolling down the page i.e.

Go to the "inspector"-click on the "table" icon-then "headers and footers" where you can set the number of headers or footers you want and click/unclick "freeze". You can also do that directly from the button bar on the "header-footer" buttons

  • PDFs washed out when exported from Indesign

I have a grayscale picture on a B&W background. Looks great in Indesign, but when exported to PDF the blacks are washed out. I have tried it several times.
I am using Indesign CS, exporting to Acrobat 5, print, on compression I have chosen 'do not downsample' on all.
When exporting simply to screen, it looks fine and the blacks are rich. When exported with the press settings, the black becomes a dark gray.
    Help? thx

There are a few things to consider about the way ID handles grayscale images.
ID does not have a grayscale color spacethere's only CMYK, RGB, or Lab. The display of Black (which is CMYK 0|0|0|100 because there is no grayscale space), varies depending on the document's CMYK profile. Modern profiles never display 0|0|0|100 as absolute black because that's not what happens on pressoffset blacks are not very black. Absolute black is reserved for rich black combinations, i.e. 65|50|50|100. If you change profiles from a coated to an uncoated profile you will see that uncoated profile previews Black as an even lighter value, which again is what will happen on a press printing on an uncoated sheet.
Things get more complicated when you place a grayscale image. ID displays it differently depending on whether you have Overprint/Separation previews turned on or off. With Separation preview on, the grayscale previews as if it's on the black plate of CMYK (dark gray). With Separation preview off the grayscale previews at 2.2 gamma and the 100% black is not limited.
When you export a press quality PDF with a grayscale and black objects you get a CMYK PDF with everything on the black plate, so Acrobat's display of the CMYK file is again dependent on the CMYK profile in Acrobat (black is gray)
Legacy CMYK profiles display 0|0|0|100 as absolute black, so try setting your Color Settings in both ID and Acrobat to Photoshop 5 Default Spaces, which will give you an absolute black preview in both programs.

  • Colors are appearing washed out when saving from Illustrator to PDF

    Hey Guys,
I am working on a cover page for my office to go along with our bid packages. I have finished adding all of the elements that they wanted and added a little flare to it. Its a really basic document and when I save it into a PDF form, the colors appear washed out or like the PDF adds a lot of white. the Rich black appear gray, the red appears pinkish... and the blue is much lighter than it looks in AI.
I need this to be completed soon, and I have been having this problem for a while now. Im not sure if its just the way it looks on the screen, or if it will print like that. I am a self taught Adobe guy.. So I am a little confused as to how to make this all work
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Steve

    Steve,
What the PDF ultimately looks like depends on the settings when you create it. If you open it in Reader, it may be somewhat off, but in Acrobat it should look right (if your colour management settings are the same as in Illy).
A rich black may be customized to match the artwork in question (such as no C if there is no C in the artwork), or you may have some of each, often with emphasis on C and maybe M; there may be different views on what a rich black should hold.

  • PNG Export from Illustrator 8 Washed Out When Opened in Fireworks MX

When I export a file containing line art from Illustrator 8 as a PNG and open it in Fireworks MX, the lines and colors are washed out. Why is this?

If you are talking about the sharpness of shapes, it's probably because the image is now made up of pixels, not paths. When you export the AI file to PNG, you rasterize it.
If you are talking about color accuracy, you will have to get into the whole issue of color management settings beween your applications.
Was the AI document CMYK or RGB? What are your PNG export settings? Did you use Export or Save For Web?
What versions of both programs are you using?
Can you post AI and FW screen shots of at least a portion of the artwork?

  • .psd file reducing size when sending file to web guy who is using PC (1020x750 changing to 640x471)

I have created a layered .psd file for a client of mine for his website who is dealing with a web guy in India to programme it. The guy in India is using a PC.
The file when I send it out is sized 1020pixels x 750pixels, at 72dpi. When the web guy opens it at the other end he is saying it is 640pixels x 471pixels.
Has anyone experience this before? Is there something I am setting up wrong within my .psd file?

You might be using Snow Leopard 10.6 and you  might have sent the message without noticing the option in the lower right of your message window.

  • Photoshop (PSD) file broken out of nothing

    He folks,
Today I was working on a .psd file.
A few hours later (now) I'm trying to open the file getting the following error: "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document."
I'm using Photoshop CS6 and a Mac. When I preview the file (pressing space in finder) it shows correctly.
How could this happen and what can I do about it?
When I copy it an change the extension to .tiff or .jpg it opens, but without all my layers etc.
I read something about open it in a hex edtior search for this and this. I did but I didn't helped me out..
I'll hope someone in here can help me ..
    Thanks for the effort!

If you open the image as a tiff an save that what is the filesize and what is the psd’s filesize?
Salvaging the damaged file may not be possible, how it was damaged is another issue.

  • QT video washed out when uncomposited on MB Air (over-contrasty when not?)

Sorry about the funny title, but this is quite odd. I've noticed it with a couple of videos in QT player now -- both from Apple, one a HD trailer and one the video of the iPhone SDK event.
It happens on my MacBook Air, but not my 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4.
When I watch the video and nothing is over it (so it's full screen or in a frontmost window), it's washed out. The contrast is poor and the blacks are grey. But when anything overlaps it -- I move another window partially over the QT player one, or a drop-down menu overlaps it, or the dock overlaps the full-screen view -- the image gets a lot darker (it looks better to me but maybe you see less detail -- maybe the washy greys are right this is too much contrast?)
Anyway, it's odd. Can anyone explain? Thanks

what color is the render bar above these problem clips?
it may be that with these graphic overlays applied then you are seeing only a proxy or preview of the final effect and not a full render
if so, check your Sequence > Render settings and make sure to check the Preview and/or Proxy options
    cheers

  • Colour washed out when using image processor in Bridge CS6

    Hi there
I hope somebody can help please?!
I am editing raw files in Camera Raw 8.2, then using image processor through Bridge CS6 to save them as both jpegs and tiffs.
I am finding the colour on the saved files is coming out a little washed out and faded.
If I open them individually and save them in PS6 as jpeg and tiffs, the colour remains vibrant and true to the original raw file.
I have thousands of these files to go through and don't have time to open each one individually in this way so I am desperate to automate this process while still retaining the great colour in the original shots.
Can anyone tell me why the shots are coming out this way and help offer a solution for me please?
Any advice would be massively appreciated!
    Many thanks
    Benny P

    Hi,
Do you have Include ICC Profile checked at the bottom of the Image Processor dialog?

  • Color washed out when using image processor in Bridge CC

    Hi,
When I use the image processor - Tool>PhotoShopS>Image Processor, via bridge my colors appear wrong and washed out.
When i choose "Include ICC profile" in the process dialog it has no effect - the colors are still wrong.
In PhotoShop my profile is set to ProPhoto RGS, can that be the reason?
When I save as JPG from Photoshop the colors are correct.
    any suggestions?

  • Photos looked washed out when played through a TV....

I have a new G5 iPod and a 60gig Photo. When plug then into the same TV with the same cable (s-video and audio) the pictures from the G5 look washed out. The iPod Photo colours look "brilliant" and are all but identical to the original digital pictures and when shown on my iMac 20" screen.
Is this because of the video aspects of the G5 and the "corners" cut to get the unit size down (hence no fire wire).
Please advise, I feel like returning this and sticking to the Photo.
    Thank in advance.
    David

    Got a refund today
Will wait for better resolution iPod to be released. The Photo still rox

  • Linked PSD files not found when opening .ai files via shared folder

My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro so that I can get someone to help me on a big job. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files.
The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time.
It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook.
I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files. Any ideas?
G5 iMac OSX 10.7.5 / Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.2 / networked via FireWire cable / file sharing on, laptop user has Administrator status, all files are read/write, permissions include all enclosed files / CS6

If you are rebooting the computer holding down T to share via firewire, that is your problem. that mounts the other computer as a hardrive and probably messes up the filepath.
Turn on sharing via Ethernet or wireless
    Connecting two computers using Ethernet
You can use an Ethernet cable to connect two Mac computers and share files or play network games.
To connect two computers using Ethernet:
Connect a standard Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on one computer to the Ethernet port on the other. You don’t need to use an Ethernet crossover cable.
If your computer doesn’t have an Ethernet port, try using a USB-to-Ethernet adapter.
On each computer, choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sharing. Note the computer name for each computer.
In the Finder on one of the computers, choose Go > “Connect to Server,” and then click Browse.
Double-click the other computer in the window and enter your password, if necessary.
If you manually configured the TCP/IP settings for the Ethernet service on the computer you are connecting to, you may need to enter that computer’s TCP/IP address in the “Connect to Server” dialog.
To see or set the TCP/IP address, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network, and select Ethernet in the list.
