Psd files are being saved as .14 file format and I cannot open them

I have been creating a few large (100MB+) files in Adobe Photoshop CS4. I saved the files both as .psd and .jpg. When I restarted my computer the next day, I went to open the file and instead of seeing the normal Photoshop icon on the file it was just a blank page icon. After attempting to open it in CS4 it flashes an alert saying, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. Then when I hover my cursor over the icon the File Type says "14 File"
I then clicked the help button in CS4 to solve the problem only to be greeted with another error message of, "There was an error loading the Adobe Help Application, you may need to re-install the application and the help component" which would be all well and good if I were at home and had the original handy. Unfortunately I am out of town and unable to do so. I do not wish to buy another version of Photoshop but I need to work on these files. Please Help

I'm not sure what happened. I would suspect something with your system, hopefully not malware.
Run a Anti virus scan. Also do some disk maintenance, check disk, cleanup, and defrag.
You can rename the files with the correct extensions and see if they open.
Let's see. You don't have access to your discs, but you can download the installer:
Download CS4 products
Have your serial number ready and if CS4 was an upgrade, the qualifying serial number.
You can these under the account you registered them under with Adobe.

If you uninstall the old CS4, use the Cleaner tool to remove any remnants.
Also checkmark "Remove Preferences" when uninstalling.
Do this all using your admin account.

My CR2 files are being saved as PNG and not PSD

When I import files into Elements 12 Organizer, I want to use the Instant Fix Smart Fix option. The CR2 files are being exported to the PNG format, and I want them to be PSD files, I don't have a way to return to the options of how to save my files by using the Instant Fix button. I really would appreciate some help on this. I can't seem to get any tech support by navigating the Adobe Web site - I always land in the Forums.

In PSE12, whenever I want to use the smart fix option in the organizer for a raw file, I get a dialog with various format options and the possibility to check one of those formats by default. If I check the checkbox to always use that format and not to display the menu, I find myself in the same situation as yours.
I don't know of a way to get the menu back... Deleting the organizer preferences should help, unless other users have a better idea.

My Old Illustrator 8 files are being seen as text files..help

Help...I am needing to go back to some old Illustrator files to update them.
The problem is that they are are only being seen as 'text' files, and i cannot open them.
I am running CS3 but have access to CS2 also.
I have updated to Mac OX version 10.6.6...could this be the problem?

Add .ai to the filename

Change open with to AICS3
While here take a look at the file size (eg:1.6mb in that above screenshot) is it really small?
If that don't work try creating a new user account and see if you can open the file.

You would need at least CS3 with ACR 4.6 to natively edit NEFs from a D90 in PS:

It might also work to use the DNG Converter 4.6 or newer to convert the NEF files to DNGs and then those might open in your older CS2 ACR, but I’m not sure, since it’s a 9 year old program I haven’t used in years.

Render Files Are Being Saved onto My Mac Book Hard Drive...?

Hi All -
So, I was highly curious as to why I have such little disk space on the hard drive on my Mac Book Pro and discovered that there is a file called "Render Files" on my hard drive which contains an enormous amount of video footage from movies I've edited in FCP.
I don't understand why these files are going into my hard drive...? I have an external My Book connected to my computer. In FCP under System Settings, on the Scratch Book tab, Video Capture, Video Render and Audio Render are all checked off and to the right of this my My Book is listed. So I thought everything would be going into my My Book external drive.
However, I looked into My Book and noticed that there is a file that says Capture Scratch that seems to have all of the captured footage of these movies. So, I'm thoroughly confused as to what this "Render Files" file is doing on my hard drive and how can I just get all video footage to automatically store on my external My Book drive. I'm afraid that if I delete the files in the "Render Files" that I'm going to create a real disaster.
Any advice or clarification on this would be most appreciated.

Couple of options for you to consider:
Open the Render Folder that you have found on your internal hard drive and sort the files by date. Are the files recent / from the current project that you are working on?
If they are then I would go to

download Preference Manager and trash your preferences. This will cause you to lose your current preferences, favorites, etc., which you will have to manually reset - but often clears up strange behavior in FCP. I would then go back and reset my Scratch Disk settings to the external drive.
Is there at Render Files folder on your external drive? Open that and sort be date and see if your current project render files are there.
If they are, that would mean the render files you found on your internal drive are from projects prior to you assigning the files to your external drive.

is this going with firefox??? buddy, look, use some pdf viewer software, like um, you know, foxit-reader or somewhat similar, then zoom in and out, make it suitable for your pc screen, then, do print-screen, then open microsoft paint tool, then paste it, then save it as jpeg. then ok.

TS1702 Numbers keeps copying saved documents randomly and saves them to my Numbers desktop on my ipad. They are greyed out and you cannot open them but the original I can open and its happening all the time to eery document

I have numbers on my ipad 2, I have saved documents I have created in a folder so far so good. For some odd reason when I open Numbers before I anything it autocopies every single document saved, and there are about 50 documents. When it saves them the Numbers Icon is greyed out, the originals are still in colour. I can open the originals but cannot open the copies which I have to delete every single time. What is happening?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

My e-mails are coming into outlook on my ipad but I cannot open them

When I try to view my e-mails, the screen is blank and then goes back to the home screen. The e-mails are coming in (the # keeps growing) but I cannot view them. My Sony A3000 is supposed to be supported by Adobe to accept raw files. They are labeled with a .arw extension and I cannot open them in my version of PS elements 13. What am I doing wrong?

I have checked and I am supposed to have a camera that uses Version 8.1 of the Raw package, but when I try to open a raw image, I am told that the .arw file is not supported by PS Elements 12. Help!

If your using pse 12, did you try Help>Updates from within pse 12 to get camera raw 8.5?
