PSD files move in User Order Sort

I have posted on this subject a couple of times before, but have had little reaction and I can't believe this is not a major issue to a number of people - so here goes one more time!
When user sort order is selected in library mode and a file is chosen for editing in photoshop, the original image and the edited image moves to the end of all the images displayed in that folder. This is very annoying as I then need to pick up the stack and move it back to where it started. PLEASE can this be fixed as it ruins a great product for me. Aperture doesn't do this. Does anyone else get frustrated by this or is it just me!?

How can I move pictures within a collection. I accidently missed a row when moving the pictures into the collection and now cannot drag or otherwise move the pictures into the correct order for a slide show

  • User order sort changes everytime in Lightroom 3.2

I have been using Lightroom for a number of years with no troubles.  It is an important part of my photography business.  Lately with ver 3.2 my sort order gets all messed up every time I reopen a catalogue.  The sort can take 4-6 hours, so it is a real problem for me if the user order changes each time Lightroom is relaunched.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am on a Mac, OS 10.6.5.   Is it a bug?
I am installing 3.3 - maybe that will solve it.  Any tips would be helpful.

    Richard,
At this point I would download the program again and start the process over. It sounds to me like a camera profile file is corrupt.

  • I would like to see a "user order" sort option for Smart Collections

I use LR to set up Collections to use for web output and typically use key wording to organize which photos will be included in any web gallery. Right now I have to make that into a regular collection so I can rearrange the collection to appear the way I want to present things. I would prefer to be able to utilize Smart Collections so any photos I want to add will be included automatically when I set up the proper keywords. New additions should be at the end of the current order and the user should be able to move that around in the presentation order as desired.

I absolutely agree. I used a similar function in Aperature all the time. It was the main reason I originally chose Aperature over LightRoom till Lightroom came out with the latest edition that included Smart Collections, and was I disappointed to find that it wasn't as powerful as Aperature's Smart Folders options.
Both programs have their strengths and their weaknesses... and this time around I think Lightroom has the advantage, but Aperature still wins on Smart Collections customization ability and power.

  • How do I save PSD files created in windows so MAC users can open and work

I have been designing photoshop files for sale to photographers online and all of my work has been created in a windows 7 system. I had a photographer contact me saying that the PSD was trouble to open and that the fonts would not work on his MAC computer.
Can someone supply me with information on creating/saving windows PSD files so that a MAC user can open them and also use the fonts I supply with the files.
The files I create are multilayered PSD's and contain fonts for windows PC use and I don't want to exclude MAC users from utilizing my work.
    Any help appriciated.

Just save.  There is no difference in files between platforms.
There are some Windows-centric font formats that aren't portable, by any OpenType or TrueType font will be portable between platforms.

How do I move all my files from one User Profile (account) into another?
I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
    cd /
    (cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
    cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
    ls means list files/directories
    so:
    cd /Users
    ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose))  this flag is very optional.
    you will see
    fred
    user2
    for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
    for example:
    cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
    ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
    cd /
    cd Users
    cd user2
    cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
    /Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
    so in your case.
    sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
    should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character /  it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
    so
    cd /Users/fred
    is not the same as
    cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\  on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\  (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
    pwd
it will tell you where you are.
    for example:
    cd /
    pwd
    this shows  /
    cd Users
    pwd
    this now shows /Users
    cd /System/Library
    pwd will show /System/Library
    cd /
    cd /Users
    cd fred
    cd Library
    pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la  (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
    do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
    whatever pwd returned / myfile
    I hope that makes sense.

  • Updating PSD files in a Flash movie

Hello.  I'll start off by saying that I'm new to Flash.  I'm using the CS5 Web Premium suite and want to publish an updated version of a Flash movie that contains PhotoShop files which I've recently modified.  Unfortunately, when I open the .FLA file in Flash Professional CS5, it's not apparent to me how to do this.  I don't see the PhotoShop files anywhere in the Library pane and thus can't figure out a way to update the Flash movie to recognize my newly modified .PSD files.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
In Flash you'll have to import those PSD files which can then be used as bitmaps and/or movie clips. Simply click on File -> Import and select the PSD file. Then you'll be presented with a dialog where you can select which layers to import.
    Hope this helps.
    Valerio.

  • In domain environment standard users can't open .psd files

in domain environment with non admin users; getting this error: http://imageshack.com/a/img543/9085/cdnu.png
only administrators can open .psd files
what permissions needs a standard user to open .psd files?

did fw work previously to open psd files?  - no, only admin users can open psd files wiht fw or ps.
do you see that error with all psd files? - yes, all psd files give this error, no error given jpeg or png files
are those cs6 psd files? - yes.
what happens if you right click fw>click 'run as administrator'? - same error.
i have to give local administrator rights to users that they can work with psd files.

  • How Do I "Sort" by "User Order" ?

Seems to me I knew how to do this yesterday... but today? Not so much.
I have imported a slew of photos and at the moment they are appearing in the Library in their capture order. I would like to rearrange a couple of them.
It seems to me that the last time I wanted to do that, I went to the sort order drop down menu in the tool bar and chose "User Order" and could then rearrange to my hearts content. Problem is presently "User Order" is not appearing as an option in that drop down menu.
If I go to the menus at the top of the screen, under "View...Sort..." then "User Order" is available, and I can select it... but I still don't seem to be able to rearrange the images in the strip at the bottom or in grid mode.
Seems simple enough... all I have to do is make it work...
    What's the trick?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Trick, if you will, is to choose one folder to sort. Make sure you uncheck including subfolders.

got no idea what this means and installing/removing works fine with pacman.

    any ideas?

Have seen the comm: error a few times lately. Apps appear to install without issue, what is the comm referencing?

Both inputs have to be sorted before feeding them to comm:

  • Where is User Order (Manual sort)  in V3.5??

I just installed v 3.5 and cannot manually arrange images anymore.  Is this a bug?  If so it's a huge one.

View/Sort/User Order is greyed out.  Also refered to as "manual mode".   In gallery mode I used to be able to manually rearrange photos by dragging and dropping them --an order in which they would revert to when "user order" was selected.

  • Opening a bin of clips to Icon View defaults sorting to "User Order"

It seems like almost any time I open a bin of clips directly into Icon view, Premiere always defaults to sorting them in a random "User Order," instead of by clip name (which would be preferred).
Any setting I am overlooking that would cause this?  Premiere 7.1 on Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    Cheers

That makse sense, I suppose, but I don't think I've ever consciously imported media from the media browser NOT in sequential order (in terms of hitting CMD-A, selecting all, and Importing)

  • Re-arranging files to new sequence order by name to export

    Hi,
Is it possible to re-arrange picture files within a LiteRoom Window?
How to organize a list of picture files merged from different Windows Folders into a user order?
This should be an obvious requirement of any SQL Database program.
How else can picture files from various locations be organized into a correctly formatted order?
I would hope a simple drag and move option would be available.
Once the correct order was arranged, a file renaming process would establish that correct order to be used in any application or browser.
For instance: to produce a list of files to be shown in the Sony Playstation to be displayed on a HDTV in a preferred order.
Fortunately, Sony did not use a Dos bassed Windows OS when they designed the Playstation 3.
Nevertheless, everyone else seems to have done so.
    Thanks,
    Howie

User Sort Order is what you're looking for. Whilst it's fairly easy to achieve there are a couple things you need to be aware of.
First, to change the sort order of files within a folder you simply click on the image part of the thumbnail in grid view then drag to where you want it to appear in the sequence.
Second, when you apply above procedure with files across multiple folders the photos will be moved from one folder to another - I doubt that's what you want, so don't do it.
The best way to reorder files that are located across multiple folders is to create a Collection that contains all of the files you want to include in the sequence. Next, click and drag the photos within the Collection to to where you want them to be.
File renaming and exporting should be fairly straight forward after that.

  • ITunes 12.0.1 windows file movement

    Hi
I have always been a Windows user, and can find my way around the file system without having to think about it. I use iTunes for an extensive music/movie collection and have sorted 99.9% of the files metadata so that itunes recognises it correctly. (there always seem to be a few I miss which my OCD doesnt cope well with!)
I am soon going to be purchasing the new iMac and moving all my media over to it. In the meantime I still have CDs that need to be added to the iTunes collection.
So I have two main queries ...
    1. When ripping a CD onto the current laptop, the folder never ends up where I expect it to be. It ends up creating a new folder called 'Music' WITHIN the existing 'Music' folder and THEN organising as I want it by artist/album/tracks.
I currently have my music collection stored on a Seagate Wireless HDD. iTunes Media folder location is set to Seagate drive\Public\iTunes Media\Music with the folders within the iTunes Media folder named Music, Movies, home videos, etc. I have unticked the 'keep itunes media folder organised' and also the 'copy files to iTunes Media folder..' options. I have asked iTunes to show CD before ripping, so that i can check the details (OCD again!).
I have also tried setting the iTunes Media folder location as Seagate drive\Public\iTunes Media without directing it into the music folder, and then it rips the artists album directly into the folder and ignores the subfolder of 'Music'
SO how can I get it to behave so I dont have to move the files and redirect itunes to see them?
    2. Secondly I want to find out the best way to transfer the files over to the new iMac so that iTunes runs as seamlessly as poss, and so that I can find my files. I also have an SD card that goes into my car which doesnt seem to like itunes playlists, it reads a file structure which I would like to stick with without getting iTunes involved if I can help it.
Any advice welcome, the last thing i want to do is juggle files and put them into the new machine in a disorganised way! I dont mind rebuilding libraries, and the old laptop can still be used to feed the car's SD card, so I would like to be able to access the files without causing more problems with itunes.
On another note I need to find out how this might mess with syncing to my ipad/iphone, but can cross that bridge when i come to it!
    Thanks in advance!

Not that is any comfort, but iTunes LP and Help both work here. Haven't synced or tried to restore anything with iTunes 12 yet.
Try working through TS1717: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
