.psd saving as quicktime

All of a sudden when I save a .psd file in CS6 (windows 7) it now bears a quicktime file icon.  Anyone know how I can get back the standard photoshop file?   Thanks.

OK, in Windows Control Panel, go to Folder Options (don't think this name changed in Win7?), and File Types. What do you see for PSD's there? If QT Player, then be sure to check other image formats too.
FYI, Microsoft has been busily taking the ability to closely control the final file associations away from the application programmer, and it's being presented differently to the user.  It's moved to an entirely different place in Windows 7 (per Curt's instruction), and is going to be changing again in Windows 8, as it will be adding yet another layer of abstraction because of precisely the problem identified by Chupamirtodorado above.
Unfortunately, Photoshop doesn't normally appear in the Default Programs list in Windows 7. I think things are in such transition with Windows 7 and so many apps found so many ways to associate themselves with file types that people have to resort to direct registry editing in some cases.
I honestly don't know how to advise further here, except perhaps to try the [Reset to Default Associations] button in Bridge.

  • Saving a QuickTime trailer from the HD Gallery on the Apple QT Website

I downloaded the HD Trailer IMAX Deep Sea (480p) from the HD Gallery and it played great with QT 7. Only thing is that I couldn't save it as a file even though I could play it using "Open Recent" optionin the QT Player. It looks like QT Pro has that option to save it. Is there any way to retrieve the file from cache (it must be cached somewhere but I couldn't find it) or any any browser 'trick' to save the file as it's downloading. Someone on this forum suggested a trick for saving avi files using the "Activity" function in the Safari browser but it didn't seem to work this time

The easiest method for saving viewed QuickTime files is by upgrading to Pro.
You can also search through the source code and reassemble the URL (if needed) and use the Safari Download window to download the file. Simply drag the complete URL (starts with http and ends in a QT file extension) to the Download window and wait.
The Safari Activity window may show the URL but most are now part of a javascript file and are difficult to find.
Other Web browser offer different methods for saving html page elements.
New to version 7 is a revised caching scheme that allows each user to set the size of the QuickTime cache. These cached files can even be viewed "offline".

    Hey guys, first post here
I made a poster on PS CS5, it had fonts, and about ten layers. I saved it as a .jpg so I could open it on a different computer, but it's not letting me. I need to print it out from this computer.
Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

  • Audio sync problem after saving to QuickTime file

Hi there, I'm relatively new to Adobe Premiere - I'm not quite knowledgeable enough about video editing to really use it to its full potential but needed something more flexible than Windows Movie Maker.  I haven't had any problems before editing smaller files, but am having tons of trouble with a 2.7 gig file.
I'm trying to take a 2.7GB .MOV file recorded on a Kodak Zi6 and divide it into three roughly equal parts to use an email sharing service that has a maximum file size of 1GB (I know that there are sites that will allow 3GB files and I wish I could use them, or use an FTP server, but the person who needs the video needs it to be sent over his own company's file sharing system).  It was recorded on an 8GB SD card, that SD card was put into my computer, and I then transfered it over to Premiere Elements 8.
I rendered the entire file first (it wouldn't even play until I did that) and after rendering, the audio and video were good and everything was synced up.  I then split the clip into three and saved each as a separate project.  Then I opened one up again and tried to save as a Quicktime file (that's what the person I'm sending it to requested).  All seemed to go well, and for the first minute or so of the 15 minute clip everything is great.  Then after that, the audio gets more and more out of sync as the video plays on.  I tried playing it on several different players, same thing.
My computer (a Cyberpower PC) is running an Intel Core i7 CPU, 870 @ 2.93GHz 3.06 GHz; 8 GB of RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285; Windows 7 Home Premium.  I'm not sure where to get the rest of the information requested in the "How to best ask for help" post but if you can give me some guidance I'll find it.
The presets are on the defaults because I wasn't aware of them until I came to this forum.  Happy to try the whole process again if someone can tell me what the presets should be changed to.
I'm looking for a solution to this particular problem, but am also looking for some basic help about files.  The files that I used most often usually come from a Kodak Zi6 (.MOV) or a Flip Mino HD (MPEG4 I think; had to convert those to something else to use them in Premiere at all).  I have AVS Video Converter 6, so I can convert those files to pretty much anything.  I'm wondering what I should convert files to before trying to edit them in Premiere, and how best to save them.  I rarely use the files anywhere but online if that helps (this particular 2.7GB file being a big exception) at a maximum width of 550 pixels, so I don't think I need the quality to be all that great; it's more important to me to be able to work a bit quicker, without rendering that takes hours.
I'd also love to take advantage someday of some of the more advanced features of Premiere, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any tutorials that will walk me through things in a linear way (as in, start from the beginning and teach me what I need to learn before moving on to something more complicated).
Thanks so much for your help, and please speak slowly; I'm in over my head!

Very well-done post, and welcome to the forum.
First, many have issues with OOS (Out Of Sync) with QT files on Export/Share. This is not just with PrE, but PrPro also. Unfortunately, OOS is pretty easy to fix, when you encounter it on the Timeline, but almost impossible to fix when it creeps in during Export. As an aside, I fought some MPEG Audio from a client, that was perfect in the Timeline, but when Exported to MPEG-2 for DVD-Video, ALWAYS went OOS dynamically, and even adjusting for that on the Timeline (rather guessing how much OOS the other direction I needed,) just flat would not do it. Sync would be fine for awhile, and then suddenly start going out, before miraculously returning to sync with the next Clip. Never could get that one correct.
In your MOV Export/Share, I am not certain which CODEC you chose. Was it H.264?
Within the MOV "wrapper," did your recipient give you any options for the enclosed CODEC's, or is the wrapper and the file size the determining factors?
Wish that I had more to offer directly, rather than questions.
As for the tutorials, I strongly recommend Steve Grisetti's Learning Series, his Boot Camp and his many articles and general PrE tutorials on Muvipix. He also has several books, available there too.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Disabling Saving of Quicktime Clips

This may be a Quicktime Forum question, but it might also be an iWeb question, I'm not sure. It's been a few years, but in the past I've embedded Quicktime files in web pages and used HTML to disable saving. **Q: can you do in a page made with iWeb 08?** (I do realize you can't 100% stop people from saving clips, but making it more difficult is fine for the use I have planned). If this ISN'T possible, then I'll move over to the Quicktime area and see if you can still make clips that have this encoding (I think I used an application called 'Quicktime Helper', but that was OS9). Thanks in advance.

iWeb doesn't write the html page code until the file is published and you would have to hand edit those files to add some code.
iWeb also uses special javascript to load QuickTime browser plug-in (and your file) and you would need to edit them to add.
The "old" html method is to add the kioskmode="true" tags and that same code can be added to the .js file made by iWeb. It stops "Pro" users from having the "Save" menu.
Since I don't have iWeb on my Mac mini, and I haven't looked very hard at the javascript code made by it, I don't have your answer.
iWeb 2 does include a QuickTime Inspector that can set some parameters but I don't know its options.

  • TIFF & PSD Saving-Troubles!!! URGENT!

    Hi guys!
Since 4-5 days i cannot save working TIFFs or PSDs out of PS CS6e (13.1.2) anymore! (out of nowhere!)
The saving process takes forever, and after all the files are corrupt!
So i cant open the PS files in LR5 or any other external viewer...which means my workflow is stopped more or less completly - so URGENT SUPPORT NEEDED!
When i try to re-open the saved PSD it says "End of file corrupt"!

To where are you saving? Is it your local hard drive? Over a network? To  flash drive?
Also, how big is the drive and how much free space is available?
If you are on a Windows system, has the drive been defragmented lately?
IF Mac, have you run Repair Permissions or Verify lately?
Any system specs you can give us might help.

  • Saving as Quicktime or Final Cut Pro Movie File

More a general question about compression from Final Cut.
Source - HDV 3 min movie
I compressed using default settings for Export > Quicktime Movie. (Result - a Final Cut Pro Movie File)
Also I used default settings for Export > Using Quicktime Conversion, except I boosted to 'Best' quality. (Result - a Quicktime Movie file)
The latter resulted in a file size twice that of the first (in theory higher quality) but stuttered on playback once burned to disc, although plays fine from Mac hard drive.
Tried this with more than one movie and same problem of stuttering playback with higher file size QT Movie once burned to disc. Wondered what might be causing this.
Also what are the pro's and con's of saving either as a Quicktime Movie or Final Cut Pro Movie File?
    Thanks

You can't "improve" the quality of what is already a digital video. The "data" that makes up the video can't be improved once the camera records it as a file. There isn't even a theory about this. Going from one codec to a higher codec does not "add" any quality. In fact, your method is degrading your quality, as you're causing your HDV data file to be re-encoded twice to another HDV file.
You're creating a larger size video file, with less quality do to doubling the compression generation with QuickTime Conversion, and it's the unnecessary increased file size that is making the CPU work overtime to play it back.
Export > Quicktime, self-contained, this is the BEST quality you'll get, the most efficient playback, too.
If you want it to play back easier, convert it to H.264 (quality set to medium, trust me), or ProRes 422.

  • Photoshop cs6 psd saved file video display is degraded from original imported file

I have had some 16mm film converted to avi 1900 by 1080 pixels, 72 pixels/inch. Photoshop displays it ok. Then when I save the file as a psd and open it again the quality of the video displayed is deteriorated from the origional. Then no matter how it is rendered, it deteriates further. I am using a windows 7 computer. I have tried this with an Nvidia Quatro 1800 card and an Nvidia Gforce 760 card.
Why does not photoshop at least keep the quality of the video as origional in a psd file? I can understand offering to degrade the display for faster display, but not the rendering degradation. I have tried rendering at H.264 High Quality and DPX full range 8 bit, they both degrade the quality, even though the origional avi file is also 8 bit depth. Rendering degrades the colors considerably.
Where can I get information on what is going on in photoshop 6 as to how to control how it saves a psd file and more control of the rendered color depth?

    [email protected]

I have to make a lot of color corrections because this is film taken from the early 40s to the early 50s. I tried doing it in Avid Studio, Pinnicle studeo and Corel Draws Video Studeo which is what Avid Studio became. None of them alow for the amount of correction allowed in Photoshop. I already owned Photoshop 5 so I upgraded to 6 to take advantage of its advances in video. The plan was to break the converted files up in smaller peices so that Photoshop could handle it and use Premier Pro perhaps to do other post production editing. The origional avi files are a movie about 1 hr and 15 min long and another one about 45 min long. The CODEX is MJPG in avi.

  • Disabling Saving of Quicktime Movies In Compressor

I'm creating a bunch of Quicktime Movies in compressor and I want to disable the save as option that the end user can see. (The drop down box on the lower right). I know I can do it through HTML by setting kioskmode to true, but that seems like an extra step.
Cleaner had this function years ago - why can't I find it in Compressor?
How can I make Compressor my one stop shop to compress as a H264 quicktime file, with fast start - compressed header, flatten for playback on all computers, and disable the end-users ability to save my quicktime file through the drop down in the player.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

  • Need help with "batch saving workflow" quicktime / automator

    Hi, my goal:
I have a lot of folders with (windows) DV-avi files I need to change container to apple mov.
The best way - I found out - to just change the container from avi to mov - without touching the video and audio stream or metadata - is:
open the file in quicktime pro 7
save as self contained movie (same filename, same location).
    wait til finished.
    open next file...
As far as I understand, the script should open and handle many files automatic, file by file - always waiting til process is finished, before starting with next file.
A probably similar thing I found is a script for batch encode..... but I need batch save , because I don't want to "touch" the source media

You don't need to go through the double export process. You can either place the edited and rendered 720p sequence in the 352x288 sequence and then export, or you can scale the image down on export in the QuickTime Conversion export module, or in Compressor. Any QuickTime can read uncompressed video.

  • Problem saving in quicktime format

When I try to save in quicktime format (.mov), iMovie starts converting but doesn't finish (never!)... and I have to quit it.
What can I do to save in quicktime format?
    Thanks

I've had that problem running QuickTime 7 in Panther and had to go back to QT 6.5.2 But since I upgraded to Tiger I haven't had the problem.
I DID have problems in Tiger, though. For some reason, the pre-bindings were taking up all my processor time (check your activity monitor - system usage should be a low number - mine was over 85% system usage! I had to run a program called MainMenu to fix it). Next check your disk space and your Quicktime settings. I've got multiple drives with partitions and found I had forgot to set the save as directory - it was trying to save a 30 gig movie onto my startup disk.

  • Instead of saving my quicktime screen record I closed out of it. Can I recover the unsaved video?

When I got done recording my screen in quicktime I forgot to save the video. Instead I wasn't thinking and closed out of quicktime after I was finsihed. Is there anyway to recover the video that I didn't save? I'm running mavericks if that helps. Thanks for your help.

Only QT Player in ML does that.

  • Our imovies were accidentally saved as QuickTime movies. Now, they won't open. Neither program is recognizing the format. Ay suggestions?Ay suggestions?

Our imovies were stored in an external drive.  The files were moved to drop box.  We moved them back over to the external drive.  Now, they won't open and look like quick time movies when you look at the file names.  Neither quick time nor imovies can open the files, though. Any suggestions?

Just an update... A rep contacted me and we did a screen share. They were convinced that I wasn't full of <insert proper word here>. They promised to get back to me in a few days, and now? A few months later? Nothing.
Still no files. Still no correction... Still no nothing from Adobe.
The person I spoke to was kind, saying he'd make sure I got CC for free for a while...
    Still though, no follow up.
Adobe, are you going to correct this or just let your customer suffer at your mistakes?
