PSD to PDF results in HUGE filesize

I'm making a brochure sized 8.625" x 11.125" (the extra .125" is bleed) at 300 dpi. The PSD file is 10.3MB (just looking at one side, since the problem's with both), but when I try to save it as a PDF, it gives me an error saying that the resulting file is more than 2GB!
Also, if I save it as a JPEG (figured I might try to convert to PDF from that), the image dimensions jump to 35.417" x 45.833" (not including bleed). Shrinking the dimensions leaves me with a low resolution though.
I'm not a PS pro, but I'd like to know if shrinking it, then just increasing it to 300dpi would cause problems. Alternatively, what else could solve the problem?
Thanks in advance

I just finished converting a PSD to Photoshop PDF in
Photoshop CS4.
First thing to do with the PSD is to see what the Document Size (Print size) is showing up as.
From the Image menu > Image size dialog.
The size is given in inches, and the resolution in dpi.  It should be 8.625" x 11.125" at 300 ppi
If not, uncheck "Resample image" so you can adjust the printed size only.
After doing this, go to the File menu, choose Save As... and Photoshop PDF as the format.
when the PDF dialog comes up,choose "High Quality Print" or "Press Quality" Preset from the topmost drop down menu in the dialog.
The converted PDF should open in Photoshop and be the same Print Size as the PSD file.
This should work unless there is something going on I'm not aware of.

  • Export PSD to PDF and retain text

I know that you can export a PSD to PDF by printing the document with something like NovaPDF, however, doing so will result in a PDF that has no text - it appears the text has been rasterized and the PDF document is just a series of images. Is there a way to export a PSD to a PDF and retain the text blocks?  This would be very helpful in that the PDF can be indexed, or so that the Find feature works on the document in Adobe Reader.
    Thanks!

Don't worry. On some versions, it's not that easy to spot. Most Save_As will have Photoshop PSD at the top, then drop down alphabetically, so that Photoshop PDF is amongst the "P's." Sometimes I have to squint to see it and have paniced, when I could not initially find it tucked away.

  • Adobe Printer Not Converting psd to pdf

I have a Photoshop CS4 Extended user who is attempting to print a psd file to her Adobe pdf printer using the following page set up settings:
    Adobe PDF page size 22"x34",
    print quality set to 4000dpi,
    Truetype as "download as softfont".
The user gets as far as selecting the page setup settings in the print dialoge box and clicking okay to print but the "save as file location" dialoge never appears. However, she is able to save/print/convert from psd to pdf with the same settings except for the page size being 11x17.
User stated that this is a common work flow for her but started running into trouble late last week.
    Troubleshooting Steps
    All Adobe PS updates applied
    Windows OS updates applied
Installed Adobe PDF Converter printer on a local port - With this printer, the file goes through all the usual steps and is able to execute the file conversion process even showing the progress bar but the file never appears in the selected location. Further troubleshooting steps included changing the save file to location settings from Adobe Prompt to a folder on the desktop but result was the same.

It has EVERYTHING to do with the pixel dimensions of the image, so-many-pixels wide by so-many-pixels high.
The limit, already outlined by Mylenium, is 60,000 pixels in either of the two dimensions.
What he was suggesting—obviously—is to RESAMPLE the image. With the "Resample" box checked [ √ ], set the ppi to 300 ppi or less, and save that as a copy.  That copy will print.
Changing the ppi alone without resampling the image is, of course, sheer nonsense.
    As mylenium wrote:
What you see is perfectly logical. 4000 DPI seems slightly insane for any use case I can think of, especially at those sizes. You wouldn't need that resolution [even] to print a 100x100m mural…
That's 100 meters by 100 meters, or some 110 yards by 110 yards.
For a page size of  22"x34", you don't need more than 200 ppi, maybe less; but 300 ppi is doable.

  • I have a problem using the "save as pdf..." command of the print panel of MS Word (lower L corner).  When file has a few photos in it, the pdf file becomes huge; 7 mb Word file becomes 31 mb., on MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo processor , OS X 10.5.8

How can converting a MS Word file to a pdf make the file 5x bigger?  Can someone tell me how to update the "save as pdf..." feature when "printing" a file in MS Word (Word:mac 2008, ver. 12.2.5).  The problem is that using this to create pdf files gives huge files when the Word file has graphics pasted as pictures from Powerpoint, even for simple graphics and when first exported at low resolution (180 dpi) as jpg files from Powerpoint and inserted into Word.

Here's a little more info on the save_as_pdf issue.  It is Word files in 97–2004 format (doc) that get 5x bigger.  The conversion works fine and file size is normal if the Word file is saved in most recent Word format (docx rather than doc).  Somehow MS Word can't save its own files properly in pdf format.  Thanks Bill for all the frustration.

  • How do I save a large banner design (108" X 18") in PSD or PDF?

I design custom banners which include both text and images and have no problem saving my files as PSDs or PDFs as long as I stay under 96" wide.  The minute I go wider, CS4 no longer gives me all my normal options, instead it gives me TIF, PSB, Photoshop RAW, or DICOM.  I usually try to give my banner production house files that are not undersized as I don't want to have all the edges aliased and jaggy.  Especially photographic portions of the banner.  Is there a size limitation with CS4 Photoshop regarding saving in "normal" file formats?  Typically I give my production house 300dpi PDFs and it works out great.
Thanks in advance for any/all advice.

    Chris, Mike, Gator...
Thanks for your input.  Mike... you're essentially saying I should downsize the artwork slightly and then reload into AI and convert to PDF after resizing.  I have the full CS4 package although I confess that as a 15-year CorelDraw user, I never got into AI LOL... and now that I'm retired and doing these projects to keep the grey matter sharp... I don't know if I have the courage to try and convert my brain from CorelDraw to AI.  But anyhow, your idea sounds like a do-able approach, certainly worth trying.
Gator... I honestly don't know for sure.  I know they want artwork in 300dpi, and it should be in PDF or AI or CDR (CorelDraw) formats.  And as much as I like CD for Vector work, Iequally love PS for general work... in fact, I probably use PS more than CD these days.  I never bothered much with Corel's PhotoPaint even though I've been to Corel Seminars in the past.  I will talk to my guys and see what they do before printing.

  • In Safari, opening a web-based pdf results in a black page?

Whn I am using Safari which is  the default browser on my IMAC, opening a web-based pdf results in a black page? This does not happen when using firefox. Also does not happen when opening an emailed pdf.

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Saving from Safari as PDF results in an icon with 0 byte volume that fails to open as it is "damaged" Why and how to solve?

saving from Safari as PDF results in an icon with 0 byte volume that fails to open as it is "damaged" Why and how to solve?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Acrobat X--View Adobe PDF results

Since the latest update to Acrobat X Pro, to 10.1, Acrobat doesn't show the PDF results when I print to PDF (from Word, from the Web, etc.). The PDF printer otherwise works fine; I just like to see the PDF pop up right after I create it to make sure it's what I want. I took a look at printing preferences for the Adobe PDF printer, and "View Adobe PDF results" is still checked (it was checked under the version before the update). I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, if that matters. I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks in advance!

I also had this problem immediately after upgrade to 10.1, and I believe there is a bug involved.
Going to Printer Properties, Advanced tab, and unchecking "Enable advanced printing features" did display the file after creating it.
Checking "Enable advanced printing features" caused the file to not be displayed, even though the Printer Perferences setting to "View Adobe PDF results" remained checked under both conditions.
I think there is a bug involved because under the problem condition, when the PDF file would be created but not displayed, I could not rename the file. It would say that Adobe had the file open. I could only rename the file by Ending Process on acrodist.exe or restarting Windows (7 Pro 64-bit).
It seems that somehow the process was getting hung at a point prior to the display of the file.
Since the workaround is to disable advanced features that I would like to use, it's not an acceptable solution for me.
Is there a place to file a bug report and get a ticket?

  • View Adobe Pdf results Minimized

I'm running Acrobat Pro 10.1.4 with QuarkXpress and Photoshop CS5.  With both programs when creating a Pdf by using the Adobe Pdf driver and the "View Adobe Pdf Results" checked, a pdf file is created, but not fully opened.   A flashing minimized box is placed on the taskbar which opens to a full page view when clicked.  In earlier versions of Acrobat it opened directly to full page view.  Additionally, when creating a pdf with a third party program (NovaPDF), it works properly and directly opens to full page view.  Perhaps, I haven't configured the preference file correctly.  Has anyone else run into this problem?  Appreciate all help & guidance.
    Burt Stuttman

Yes, I'm printing to the Adobe PDF printer. FWIW, I used to be able to right-click in MSIE and use "convert to PDF" to create a PDF, but when my hard drive crashed and was replaced and the OS (and everything else) reinstalled, that wouldn't work anymore. Now I get a script error. I'm guessing that's an MSIE problem (possibly because when the OS was reinstalled, a newer version -- 9 -- of MSIE was installed), but at this point I can live with it.

  • Disable View PDF Results not working

I am using Adobe 9 with Windows 7 and I am trying to disable View PDF Results via printing preferences. Everytime I uncheck the box to View PDF Results, it does not stay unchecked. It is driving me nuts. I have searched this forum and a few others had this issue but there were no solutions posted. I had this issue once before but I cannot remember how I fixed it because I think I fixed it by accident.
    Thanks

Anyone have any idea how to fix this issue?

  • REFUND DISPUTE - CLASH OF CLANS UNAUTHORIZED PURCHASES RESULTING IN HUGE DEBITS WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD!

There are at least 40 charges relating to Clash of Clans gems which are a clear duplication which have been charged to my credit card resulting in huge charges which I cannot afford.  I have lodged disputes via every channel possible, reported a problem with every order/purchase all day yesterday but no response from Itunes on when they intend to refund me my money. I am so utterly dissapointed and at my witts end, I cannot have these charges, very worried stressed!

My son had a bill of over $450.00 that I cannot pay, he took my credit card so he could upgrade? I just about had a heart attack. Each purchase of these so called gems was $10-18.00 , when I looked at their app they show $4.99 being the most.  This is such a scam! I had to cancel my credit card to avoid more charges and forbid him to play this anymore.  We parents are getting ripped off. How can an 11 year old be expected to have this bill? I just sent an email as well.
Wish you luck as I cannot pay this either!

  • "view adobe pdf results" stopped working

Even though the box for adobe pdf printing preferences is checked.
i always like to see when a new pdf is creared, but now it goes straight to the folder instead.
using acrobat 9 pro extended, version 9.5, which i just updated again.
    any help much appreciated

Wish I could tell you more. The setting is to show the pdf file once printed, and the box checked is entitled, "View adobe pdf results." I believe that is the default. After a recent automatic upgrade, it stopped doing so, and after a lot of playing around, including repairing and reinstalling the program, and turning the feature off then on again, nothing has worked. I can live with it, but it's just that I now have to go into the folder each time to make sure it printed correctly.
I just tried it with this message and it worked after a bunch of strange errot messages.
Overall, I have experienced intermittent "printer not responding" messages that force me to shut my browser, mostly firefox, and I think there is a bug in firefox that affects the interface with acrobat. I sometimes just copy and paste to word as a go around.
    Thanks.

  • PS Elements 8 - "Save As" PDF File Sizes Huge

In Photoshop Elements 8.0, Photoshop PDF file sizes are huge when using the "save as" function, using JPEG compression.
No matter which "Image Quality" is used, the resultant PDF is huge. At "high" quality the file is 20 MB. At "medium" quality, the file is 15 MB. At "low" quality, the file is also 15 MB, much too large. This was not a problem in older versions of Elements. File sizes were typically just more than 3 MB.
If I save the image as JPEG files using "maximum" (10) quality, "medium" (5) quality, and "low" (3) quality, I can insert the image(s) into Word and use the Acrobat Pro PDF printer driver to get PDF file sizes of 1.8 MB, 1.3 MB, and 1.1 MB. These PDF files are perfect. Even the lowest quality is perfectly readable for my purposes. The older versions of Elements worked fine so I didn't need to take the step of saving in JPEG format, importing to Word and then printing.
Does anyone know if Photoshop Elements Version 8 is capable of saving PDF files in the smaller file sizes?  Is there a plug-in I can purchase that would give better results?
Photoshop Elements Version 8.0 (20090905.r.605812) with all updates applied.
    OS = Windows 7 Enterprise (6.1, Build 7600).
Thank you for any help or adevice.

I'm dealing with the same situation.
With Photoshop Elements I use to scan a picture at 300 dpi, save as PDF file, jpg compression medium low
quality and alway got files under 5 Mb, even lower than that. Colour or black and white pictures.
Now with Photoshop Elements 8.0 did the usual procedure but the pdf are huge, larger than 8 Mb, even more
    than 10 Mb !
Am I missing any detail in settings program, perhaps ?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
