PSE 10 Catalog from old XP laptop to new Windows 7 laptop

Hi,
I have an old laptop with Photoshop Elements 10 and Windows XP. I am now changing to a new laptop with Windows 7 (64). Based on my understanding I should make to following steps:
With old XP laptop: Create a full backup of the catalog to an external harddrive using PSE 10 Organizer's Backup Catalog -function.
Install PSE 10 SW to the new Windows 7 laptop.
Restore the backup from the external harddrive to new laptop using Restore Catalog -function.
Deactivate PSE 10 from the old XP laptop.
However, I am a bit puzzled with the step #3 and I thought I ask first before doing anything.
In the old XP laptop I have all the pictures in the D:\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures -directory. In that directory I have different kind of sub-folders for my pictures.
In the new Win 7 laptop I should have those in D:\userdata\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures -directory.
As you can see there is a slight difference in those directory-paths. Due to that I assume I cannot use "Original Location" as a restore method. However, I want to keep those sub-folders which I have under My Pictures, so I cannot use "New Location" either. But if I use "New Location with the Restore Original Folder Structure" I guess I wll have something like D:\userdata\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures or...?
So, just asking what is the proper way to proceed if I want to have same folder structure under My Pictures - folder, but use Windows 7 default path for My Pictures?

I guess it is always good to ask, since immediately after posting this question I realized I should use "New Location with the Restore Original Folder Structure" and the new location is just D:\userdata\
Of course, if you have any additional comments/instructions I should take into account, just let me know.

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

  • Moving a catalog from old computer to the new one.

The old computer (32 bit) has PSE 9 and the new one (64 bit) PSE 11. The Folders holding the photos will be on a data drive having the same letter as the old computer (both have separate dirves for data). So the adresses of the phots will be the same.
How do I move the catalog, which I think is on the "C" drive in the old computer, to the new computer and convert it to PSE format. Could I move a backup of the catalog to the new computer and then restore it to PSE 11? One problem is that I am not sure which one of the several "catalogs" on the old "C" drive is the right one. [None of those are backups since I always stored the backups on another drive]. How do I tell?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Good. PSE11 is a 32 bits application and will be installed as such in the new computer.

If the data drives on both computers are internal (not a unique external drive alternatively plugged in) you are wrong. The drives are recognized not only by letter drive but also by serial number.

Since you have the backups on another drive (I suppose they were made from the Organizer, not from another external software), you should simply do a restore to 'custom location' in the new computer. In a first step, that will restore the pictures folder tree, in a second one it will convert the catalog.
If you want to move the catalog, it will be harder:
    - locate the folder with your catalog. Each catalog is in its own folder named from the catalog title. You should copy the whole folder with its files and subfolders to the new catalog, preferably in a different folder tree than your pictures folder tree.
    - In the Organizer, you should convert it from the catalog manager
Now, how to resolve the problem of the data drive different serial numbers ? Three different ways :
1 - Use the 'reconnect missing files' feature. Its now easier with PSE11
2 - In Windows, reassign the same serial number to the drive. Some reading from John R Ellis :
3 - use a sqlite database tool to manually change the serial number in the media_table of the new catalog.
You can see why using the backup / restore process is much simpler and safer.

  • Problem printing from old XP machine using new Windows 8.1 machine

Hi....I have a new HP Envy laptop with Windows 8.1. It is hard-wired to my Verizon
FIOS router box and there is also a printer connected to the Envy laptop. I also
have an old XP box in another room that connects wirelessly to the same Verizon
    router.
Before I got the new Envy laptop, I had two XP boxes "networked" together
and they could share some documents and I could also print documents from either
machine but I cannot get the XP box to network with the Envy laptop or even print
    something from the XP box.
Can XP boxes no longer network with Windows 8.1 boxes? Is there any way to at
least get the XP box to share the printer that is connected to the Envy laptop?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
This is probably better answered on the PC forum but make sure that printer sharing is enabled on the 8.1 pc. Go to PC settings>network> enable device and printer sharing

Firstly on the Mac, sync and backup both devices to
iTunes.  Make sure everything is set up to sync all
    the items you want.
Then follow this to process to move your iTunes
    library to the PC:

p.s.  Make sure you keep your old Mini around until you are sure

  • When I try to do homeshare from my Mac to my new windows laptop my laptop won't detect my library. Why?

I got a new laptop for college and all my music is on my computer at home.  I came home this weekend expeting to be able to use homeshare to transfer my music to my laptop.  I went through step by step how to start homeshare from the apple website and my computer (which is a Mac) detected the library of the few songs from my laptop through homeshare, but my laptop (which is not a Mac) will not detect the library from my computer making it impossible to do what I want to do? Why will it not load my computer's library on my laptop but it will load my laptop's library on my computer?

If you can get both computers on the Internet at the same time without re-cabling, you have the connection infrastructure needed to enable file sharing and share those files.
That said, many users find it easier to use FireWire Target Disk mode to treat the old computer as a big Hard drive, and just drag and drop the files, or use Migration Assistant or Setup Assistent.
There is a really good guide here:

You may be able to re download iTunes purchases for free directly on the new iPad.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Note: Previously purchased music is only available through iTunes in the Cloud in Australia, Canada, Cypress, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Previously purchased TV shows are only available through iTunes in the Cloud in the United States.

Agreed. Don't even think about starting a long, disc-intensive process like that without both machines powered by AC.

  • Need to swap my Acrobat XI from my old PC to my new Mac laptop.

I submitted a request to swap my Acrobat XI from my old PC to my new Mac laptop.  I received a response from Adobe to deactivate the license on the old PC and I completed that task on 1/22/15 and responded back to Adobe on the same day.  As of 1/26/15, I am still awaiting a response from Adobe to activate Acrobat XI on my new Mac. I need this for business purposes and am finding this process to be very slow.  How can I have this process/response expedited so I can install Acrobat XI on my Mac? Is there a way to contact Adobe thru chat, e-mail or phone?

  • Best way to transfer files from old Macbook Pro to new one?

I just got a new Macbook Pro from Apple...YEEEEAAAHHHH!
    So....
What's the best way to transfer files from old Macbook Pro to new one?  I know Migration assistant, but is there a recommended way?  I don't want to put do a system restore or transfer everything from the old laptop, but I do want to move important things like photos, music, documents and such over.  Any suggestions on best way to do this?
Another question, perhaps subquestion.  If I have, say, an older version of iPhoto but a newer version of one on my new Macbook Pro, will it still transfer photos no problem?
Just looking for hints from the experts so this puppy is set up in the best way possible.

    Just one comment on this:
‘If I have, say, an older version of iPhoto but a newer version of one on my new Macbook Pro, will it still transfer photos no problem?’
the problems are ALWAYS in the reverse way, when you have the newest (or a newer) version of a given app, and wish to transfer its library to an older version.
Otherwise, see the link to Pondini.
I have been using Martin Jahn’s iBackup, with which I have become accustomed and works fine. It also makes daily backups. Its advantage over other apps is that you may add whatever you wish to save, beside its default settings (which you may delete or cancel, of course, even if not recommended); it also has a friendly interface and easily customizable. Of course, this is a personal view, you may try other methods as well, or other backup apps. All are good if you are satisfied and correspond to your needs.

  • How do you transfer my itunes ,music, apps, from old PC to a new PC

How do you transfer my old itunes account music, apps from old PC to a new Pc?

These are two possible approaches that should work to move the existing library to the new laptop.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase are reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your library or a backup of it then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • How can I upload old pictures and videos stored in my icloud to my new windows laptop?

I haven't had a laptop in years and have been backing up my iPhone solely on the icloud. I now have a new laptop and would like to access old photos and videos from my old icloud backups. How may I do that on this new windows laptop?

    Hi SuperMarine14,
Since you have iCloud available you also can use a service called My Photo Stream. See this article -
    iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
This will allow you to see all of your photo and video content on devices using it.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
