Pse 10 to 12 HELP!

I just  upgraded from PSE 10 to 12 after the restart I noticed that my desktop photo was missing when I launched iPhoto there were no pictures then I launch LR4 the same thing all I have left in Organizer are Thumbs with ?'s on them and all pertinent  actions are greyed out. I had the computer  checked at the apple store . How could this happen and does any one have any ideas. Tech support was not able to tell me . The Apple store said it was an Adobe problem.

Your post is extremely unclear. Are you using organizer or lightroom to catalog your photos? What does iphoto have to do with anything? Please, please don't say you are using three different photo management programs, but if you are you need to explain in very great detail what you are doing and why.

  • PSE-5 Photo Degradation HELP

I am using PSE-5 on window XP media edition. I was opening 5, when all of a sudden it started adding photos that were already in my organizor. Of course, I hit the cancel button, and it closed. I then clicked on a recently added JPG and it was degraded showing as red and black as if I had sharpened it to the max. I then opened PSD photo files that I had viewed previously and they were now degraded.
I decided after much frustration to opened these PSD and jpeg files in another program and they were ok. I then uninstalled 5, and waited untll the next day to reinstall. No success. I again uninstalled and removed it from the registry. When I reinstalled, degradation remained. I am at a loss and desperate need help.
(I am a recuperating quadriplegic. I've spent the previous 2 1/2 years in the hospital. I am using speaking software to type this message. So please excuse any and all errors. Because of the extremely high medical bills, I was hoping to delay having to upgrade when I cannot use the software to the max. But if it cannot be repaired, then I might not have any other choice.)
I have another program, but I have spent an extremely amount of money on styles, actions, etc. and we hope to be able to use them. OK ,Shirl, off your soapbox. LOL

I have enclosed a photo of my daughter-in-aw and granddaughter. In PSE-5 editor the baby;s legs are completely red, her hand, and wherever there is change in skin pigmentation. Her mother's  hair and sunvisor, chest area, inside arm area, and where the skin tone changes. This was in the PSD and JEPG  files. When I started to save the web in 5, the screenshots were much clearer. it is only  in the editor that the degradation happens, and it is awful. I am hesitent about opening any other files in the edit, but that is the where I can only use my extras.
You have been extremely patient with me, and it is truly appreciated.
    HUGS!!

  • How to open Nikon D5300 Raw files in PSE 11? [was:Help Please]

With My old Nikon D90 Elements 8 would open raw files OK I now have a new Nikon D5300 and when trying to open a raw file it tells me that it is the wrong type of file Help Please
    Andy

There isn't a generic nikon raw. Each camera has its own raw format and the camera raw plugin has to be updated every time a new camera comes out. The D5300 requires ACR 8.3, which is only compatible with PSE 12. So you have three options:
    1. Upgrade to PSE 12.
    2. Use the nikon software to convert the files and send the converted images to PSE for any further editing.
    3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to create dng files that your version of camera raw can understand.

  • PSE 12: Mac need help opening RAW files

I downloaded the trial version of PSE 12 on a Mac OS X v 10.8.5 and I am unable to open the CR2 RAW files taken by a Canon EOS Rebel XS and loaded directly to the Mac.
The exact error message is, "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
The Camera Raw plug in version on this PSE 12 is 8.2.0.94
In an effort to open these CR2 files, I downloaded the DNG Converter 8_2. This provided a similar error, "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files."
I believe that my camera is supported by PSE12 :
I plugged an external hard drive into the Mac which contains CR2 files from the exact same camera. The files were unloaded using a Windows PC and then saved on the hard drive. They open on the Mac using PSE12. No problem.
So, I am guessing that the problem is that I am a new Mac user. I have no idea where I should look on the Mac to figure out why the CR2 files directly loaded to the Mac won't open in PSE12 but files loaded to a WIndows computer and then opened on the Mac will open in PSE12.
    Any suggestions?

Barbara B--thank you so much for trying to help me.
I finally have success! I discovered that I must use the Canon EOS Utility to download the files to the Mac. Not iphoto and not the Image Capture.
For anyone else who might need a link to the Canon Rebel XS EOS Utility, I found it here:

  • PSE 11 (OS X): Help! Catalog has just decided my photos are on a different disk

I've been running PSE on my Mac for several years without problems. I just downloaded about 3,000 new photos from my camera, apparently without problems, but when I clicked on one of the thumbnails, PSE couldn't find the photo. On further investigation, I realized that while the photos had downloaded to the usual place, ~/photos/download, the catalog was now looking for them in the same directory but on my BACKUP disk (I have a second hard drive that I use to keep a copy of my main disk). I have no idea how this has changed or why, as I've never manually moved anything to the new disk, and have no idea how I'd tell PSE to look on a different disk anyway, but it seems to have decided to keep the same directory structure but now to look for everything on a different disk. How can I correct this? I can get PSE to find my newly uploaded photos if I copy them to the backup disk, but this is not what I want - it's supposed to be a backup disk!
Thanks for any suggestions, both about what might have gone wrong and (especially) about how to correct it.
    Best,
    Richard Stanton

    Hi,
Can you please check Edit > Preferences > Camera/Card reader pref > "Save Files In" preference?
Also, for the current situation, you may reconnect the files using File > Reconnect > All Missing Files. You would need to manually locate path ~/photos/download and click Reconnect.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Pse 9.0 Trial Help

So far, I've downloading Pse 9.9 two times, but it will not work properly. I open up the organizer, select a photo to edit, click on the option 'Edit Photos', and the Editor opens. After a few quick moments, and error message pops up, saying 'PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close', and precedes to do so. This happened in a straight 30 times. When this occurred, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but it still does this. I'm sorry, but if more detail is needed, I'll need to be asked specifically what I'm not saying properly or at all. Does anybody know the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

  • PSE 6 in XP help button

Nothing happens when I click the help button or hit F1.
New installation from CD, reinstalled twice.
Is this something others have experienced?

I've been so busy trying to get highspeed wireless setuphere, I haven't had time to check the patch I downloaded. I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know.
I did finally find the PDF help file, though.
As a comment, I found the "Make Larger" button in PSE 6 and tried it on a crop I want to get to 16 x 20. It works GREAT. The original crop would barely make 8 x 10, and now will make poster. I think the detail is even better on the enlarged one. Big file! :D

  • PSE 6 Cloning and Help

I have had PSE 6 (used Photo Deluxe for years) for some time, but, only now wanting to use it to be a little creative.  Problems I have when trying to clone parts of 2 pictures and then receive an error "Could not use the clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define a source point)".  I have tried that along with trying to reset Ctrl-Alt-Shift and repairing the install, and nothing works. Also the Help F1 key does not work.  I searched Adobe site for assistance but cannot find solution; any assistance would be appreciated.

Here's an entirely different approach, using the Gradient tool and a clipping group.
In this example I positioned 2 pictures with an overlap where the blend will occur. For purposes of the example I temporarily shifted the top picture so you can see the amount of overlap:
Add a blank layer between the pictures and group the top two layers, creating the clipping group.
Set the Gradient tool options: Linear Gradient, Foreground-to-Transparent, Normal Mode, Opacity 100%, Transparency box checked.
Draw the gradient straight down within the overlap area. The length of the drawn line determines the amount of blending.
Important: be sure to draw within the overlap or else the picture edges will show through.

  • Another question...this time about Styles in PSE 10...help?

I've had Photoshop Elements 7.0 for quite some time, and use styles pretty often.   When I bought Photoshop Elements 10 a while ago,  I transferred all of the styles I've accumulated over the years into the PSE 10 - and then discovered that most of them do not show up in Effect panel (except for those already pre-installed by Adobe).  I'm kind of bummed - how do I find a way to use my favorite styles in Effect panel?  Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Same path only substitute 10 for 9.

  • PSE newbie frustrated, please help with image resizing

    Hi!
Tutorials aren't helping me, nor is trial and error. I just want to resize some photos I downloaded to my computer, then upload them to a website to use as my avatar or signature. There are specific pixel dimensions I must adhere to. I want to keep the photo in it's entirety, but when I resize it, it distorts a bit, looks fuzzy...
I can't figure out what the heck I am doing wrong. Some pictures turn out just fine and others look really bad. I know it can be done because I've seen the same pictures I'm trying to size, being used for the same thing I want to use them for, but theirs are clear, absolutely no distortion whatsoever. The pixel dimensions I have to work with are either 100x100, or 450 pixels wide by 90 pixels high.
I hope this made sense, I'm not sure how else to word it. Please forgive my ignorance, I've really been trying.
    Thank-you
    B

For an avatar it’s possibly best to crop to begin with so you get a true square.
Open the image and select the crop tool and change the aspect ratio to 1 x 1 or 5 x 5 then drag out a square and move the image around inside it or drag the bounding box borders until you have it looking as you want. Then click the green check mark.
On the top menu click Image > Resize > Image Size and in either the height or width box type 100 px (you only need to type the dimension once the other box will change to 100 automatically. Make sure you have the bottom three boxes checked:
    Scale Styles
    Constrain Proportions
    Resample Image
With all three checked set the bottom dropdown to Bicubic and then hit OK.
If you want to apply some sharpening select Enhance on the top menu and choose Unsharp Mask.
Make sure the Radius is no more than 1.5 and use the amount slider to get the image looking as you want it then save.

  • PSE 9 'Help' section keeps crashing

Opening a second item from the browser column causes the 'help' section to crash. Windows sends an error report to Microsoft but no advice is given.
I am running XP 32bit Home ed. on an Intel Pentium 4, 2.66G chip with 2gb of ram and plenty of disk space

Thanks Barbara, at least I'm not on my own with this. Why do people keep making 'Improvements'? I think they forgot to add that particular code. So for now I'll continue to work in PSE 9 then save and print from PSE 3. At least I have the luxury of that. Silly isn't it? Even sillier, is that when I actually buy software, which so many don't these days, it always seems retrograde compared to the illegal version I sampled. PSP X2, for example, where Corel bought it and stripped out half the functionality of PSP8 and launched it as a 'new' upgraded version. (Sorry to rant)
    Cheers

Nobody but adobe likes the new print window, but they do, for some reason. At least it's better than PSE 8, where you couldn't even uncenter the image.

  • PSE 8 for Mac says "License expired"

    Hello.
I am having a problem with PSE 8 for mac.  The situation for my software is complicated but it my be germane.  I download the trial version of the software and liked it.  I put the software on my wishlist.  My in-laws got a copy of the software for Christmas, but they bought the windows version from Costco.  Because Costco does not sell Mac software, I called up Adobe support and asked if they would cross grade me.  I did not want to return the software at Costco and not be able to get it.  So, I thought I would call Adobe and see what they could do -- cross grade could be a win/win.  They said that they would if I sent the serial number.  I did that, then they said that I need to pay $25 to cross grade, which I did not want to do.  I asked them to just give me a permanent serial number.  Adobe eventually did give me a permanent serial number for the PSE 8 trial and that is what I have been using.
At about the time of the 10.6.3 update, PSE stopped working giving an error message "Licensing for this product has expired".  I tried a number solutions listed on the support site here at Adobe, but no have worked EXCEPT turning back the clock to 2008.  Is there a way to get this to work without having the clock wrong?
    Thanks.

This shouldnt have been the case. I am sorry that you are experiencing this issue.
Can you please try to do the following:
    1. When your system date is in year 2008 and you are able to work successfully with PSE Editor, go to Help Menu inside Editor and click on the link saying Help->Deactivate...
    2. Select the option to erase serial number and deactivate the product.
    3. This will quit PSE Editor as well.
    4. Launch PSE Editor again and now supply the serial number which Adobe gave to you again...
Hopefully, this error message wouldnt come now...Please keep me informed...
    Regards,
    Ankush

  • PSE 6 Problems Fixed in PSE 7

Over the past year, Ive kept a list of PSE 6 problems Ive encountered and verified:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b65e1b/0
Ive tested those problems in PSE 7 on my computer, and the results appear below.
PSE 6 problems that appear to have been fixed in PSE 7 are marked [F], and problems that arent fixed are marked [NF]. Because of limitations of the forum, this list is split across several messages.
    Overview
The good news is that Adobe has fixed many of the most serious problems with PSE 6:
    - The missing Help content.
    - The inability to use raw files on a newer computer.
    - The Move command that deleted files.
    - The low-contrast grey-on-black user interface.
In addition, the PSE 7 Organizer seems significantly zippier for scrolling and searching (with my 13K catalog and someone elses 68K catalog).
The not-so-good news is that a fair number of serious problems and a large number of minor ones remain unfixed:
    - The Organizer still gets horribly confused by reassignment of drive letters and drives with duplicate serial numbers, situations that occur when people upgrade their computers.
    - Numerous problems with searching, including the broken timeline and exclude keyword category.
    - Folder Location view still shows incorrect folder contents.
    - Map view remains a buggy toy that cant handle more than several hundred photos.
    - Date/times set by Adjust Date and Time can still be lost silently.
    - High-resolution displays with DPIs larger than 96 arent supported.
    - The Organizer shows incorrect colors for Adobe RGB photos.
There are 65 issues listed here, 37 of which are major, causing data loss or seriously impeding functionality with no easy, obvious workaround. Of the 37 major issues, 13 have been fixed. Of the 28 minor issues, 8 have been fixed.
Ive reported all of these problems to Adobe. Almost all of them are in the Organizer. Based on all the reports on the forums, it appears that the PSE 6 Editor has far fewer problems the Organizer. Perhaps thats because the Editor shares the same code with the professional Photoshop, while the Organizer appears to be an orphaned consumer product whose development Adobe has moved offshore.
For reference, my computer is a midrange laptop with a dual-core 1.8 GHz processor, 3 GB of memory, and a 7200 RPM disk (the same speed as desktop disks).
    Raw Files
    Major Problems
[F] On a multiprocessor, the Organizer behaves erratically with catalogs containing raw files: sometimes it crashes, sometimes it shows the hourglass icon for raw files, sometimes it shows the broken-image icon.
[F] In a catalog with large numbers of raw files, scrolling quickly over dozens or hundreds of large-sized thumbnails will consume 100% CPU for a minute or longer.

    Part II
    File Management and Tagging
    Major Problems
[F] The File > Move command will silently and permanently lose a file if the destination folder has a file of the same name as the file being moved; this is different behavior than PSE 5.
[F] The File > Move command loses the association between the photo and the audio caption, even though it moves both files to the new location.
[F] If you move or rename a catalog using File > Catalog > Move/Rename, you can no longer edit existing slideshows in the catalog.
[F] Tag hierarchies with more than 500 or so tags make the Keywords pane unusably slow (but worked fine in PSE 5).
[F] The Photo Downloader process APDProxy.exe crashes at startup because of a missing DLL.
]This problem doesnt occur in my PSE 7. But it was clearly a timing-dependent bug (a race condition) that came and went for me and many others, so it may be still lurking. Adobe has a tech note that says it occurs with PSE 7, but the tech note gives symptoms and a workaround that only apply to PSE 6, suggesting a cut-and-paste error by a PSE 7 support person.
[NF] The Organizer fails very ungracefully when two drives have the same volume serial number, e.g. because of the use of a disk-cloning utility.
]Im very disappointed that Adobe didnt add the three lines of code that would have issued a warning when it discovered two drives with the same number. While most people will never encounter this, when it strikes someone, its symptoms are very mysterious. Adobes tech note on the issue gives incorrect and misleading information about possible solutions.
[NF] The Reconnect command fails to reconnect when: you move your photos to a new drive, assign the drive the letter of the old drive to the new one, and leave both drives connected to your computer.
[NF] If a hard drive containing photos in the catalog gets its drive letter reassigned by Windows, then the left-hand folder pane of Display > Folder Location view shows the old drive letter, not the new one, as containing the photos.
]This sounds innocuous, but it led a user on the forums to select the wrong drive when dragging and dropping a folder, permanently deleting some files. This bug and the previous one with Reconnect have the same underlying cause the Organizer doesnt update drive letters in its catalog.
[NF] Folder Location view shows incorrect folder contents when more than one keyword tag is selected in the Keyword Tags pane.
]Based on reports on the forums, there appear to be other situations where Folder Location view shows incorrect folder contents, but they havent been easy to reproduce.
    Minor Problems
[F] The File > Rename command no longer includes leading zeroes, causing the renamed files to sort incorrectly in Windows Explorer.
[F] Display > Import Batch shows the wrong time for batches imported by the Photo Downloader; if the local time zone is UTC-8:00, then the time will be 8 hours earlier.
[F] The Organizer doesnt unlock an edited file saved to a folder whose name contains an apostrophe.
[NF] In File > Export, the Common Basename can no longer be empty, and a hyphen is added automatically, so you can no longer get files named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.
]You can get files named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. but you cant get files named p1.jpg, p2.jpg, etc. a hyphen is still added in that case.
[NF] Setting the Apply Metadata > Author or Copyright fields or the option Preserve Current Filename In XMP of the advanced options of the Photo Downloader causes duplicate files to be downloaded and imported.
    Map View
    Major Problems
[NF] Map view is unusably slow with more than about 6-8,000 mapped photos.
]When I tested PSE 7 by importing 12,000 photos (the size of my catalog) that had GPS locations, the red push-pins didnt blink uncontrollably as they did in PSE 6. But the Organizer crashed a number of times when I tried to zoom and pan the Map view until I was able to scroll the map to another country and then back again. The CPU continued to consume 80% of a single CPU (40% of two), even 10 minutes after I closed Map view. When I selected Limit Search to Map Area, PSE took over a minute to respond.
[NF] It takes 5 seconds to assign a keyword tag to a photo if there are 1,000 or more photos with map locations.
]In PSE 7, it takes 3 seconds with 1,000 photos, 12 seconds with 8,000 photos, and 18 seconds with 12,000 photos.
[NF] Giving a map location to a tag assigned to hundreds of photos makes both the Keywords pane and the Map view unusably slow.
]Giving a map location to a tag assigned to 2000 photos makes assigning any keyword tag to a photo very slow (see above). Searching on keyword tags takes 15 seconds, and a Show All takes 15 seconds.
[NF] Removing the map push-pin of a tag assigned to hundreds of photos mistakenly tries to update the metadata of each photo, which can take tens of minutes and fill up your recycle bin.
]The weird thing is that assigning a map location to the tag doesnt try to write the metadata of files with that tag.
[NF] Moving map locations always fails, silently (too bad if you want to record backcountry locations not namable via a place name).
[NF] If a photo with GPS coordinates is imported, it doesnt show as a red push-pin on the map.
]Scrolling the map or restarting the Organizer causes the pin to appear.

  • Problems installing pse 8 on macbook pro

I'm trying to install pse8 on my new Mac Book Pro and keep getting an error message saying that Firefox is running and I cannot install until that program is closed.  Only problem is firefox is not running.  Has anyone come across this problem before?  I was able to successfully download other software onto my computer immediately following my pse 8 attempt.
    Help please??

    Barbara,
No Firefox process is running.  I created a new admin account and tried it again but the same message came up. Shouldn't the installation process automatically start when inserting the disk?  It doesn't so I have to double click on the icon in the top right corner then I double click on pse8 and then set up.  It starts the intiallizing but ends with the same message everytime that the firefox application must be closed in order to continue.  Is there a better way? Everything is closed as far as I can tell.  Nothing has begun to download.

  • NEW to pse and to forum, how to add a frame?

I have never used Photoshop. I would like to add a white frame around  a photo. can anyone share how to do this? I hope i can figure out how to get back here to read the answer! LOL

If you hit the F1 key to open the online Help, in the upper right corner there's an icon to "View as PDF".  Click on it and you can save the PDF to your hard drive.  That's a very good thing to do because then you can search the PDF, which you can't do with the online help.
I learned PSE by reading that help file and watching the Adobe TV tutorials (some of which have sample files for downloading so you can practice with the same images used in the tutorial).
Others will have to jump in with recommendations for books, since I haven't looked at any of the books.
