PSE 10 Wont access Paper Profiles for printing

I have my ICC Profile installed. However I can not access the paper types when trying to print on my epson 1280. Paper type only shows "Unknown"
Im going crazy. Can someone help?

Barbara, I installed the Mac OS 10.5.6 Combo update as you suggested. Unfortunately, no change in PSE 6's behavior with its "Photoshop Manages Color" in printing with ICC profiles. It did, however, fix a little delay problem I was having when putting my Mac to sleep. Thanks.
Well, from what I have experienced after days of experimenting, researching the Internet, writing at length on forums such as this one, and going through a lot of expensive OEM photo paper and ink, I can only conclude that the "Photoshop Manages Color" feature does NOT work in PSE 6 for the Mac under the Tiger AND Leopard OS's. The problem apparently is not printer brand specific, nor driver specific.
This important feature, which worked in PSE 4, is broken in PSE 6 for Mac -- and Adobe needs to do something about it SOON, because their customers are not getting the features that they paid for and are wasting a lot of time and resources trying to figure out this problem. Not once in two weeks did anyone on five different forums come forward and say, "this feature works for me" -- instead, just the opposite.
My guess is that many people try this feature and when it doesn't work for them they just go back to using the "Printer Manages Color" setting, or as in my case now, chucks PSE 6 and goes back to using PSE 4.01 until I can find an affordable non-Adobe alternative.

Finding paper profiles for printer

I have an Epson and a Canon inkjet printer connected to my Macs, and I am trying to find profiles for different inkjet papers that I can add to the printers so that they will print correctly on the papers.
The available paper types listed in the printing options are very limited and don't include options even for the range of papers sold by the printer manufacturer.
I am not familiar with this process.
Are there downloadable profiles for printers working on Mac OSX?
Can you load paper profiles for different brands of paper?
Does the process involve something more?
I have read about having to do calibrations and even having to buy profiles from commercial sources, but I am not clear how all this works.

A Web search shows that the Epson R200 ICC profiles can still be downloaded from Epsons Europe support site:

You can extract the profiles into a folder and then use Control Panel > Color Management > All Profiles > Add to add those profiles to your system.

How do I change the default paper size for printing?

I am running Firefox 3.6.3. Recently, the default paper size for printing unexpectedly changed to a user-defined size of 3.00" x 4.57". It used to be letter size (8.5 x 11). The default paper size is 8.5 x 11 for everything else. I have tried changing the size in the preferences dialog box and then clicking "default", but after I close Firefox or if Firefox opens a new window, the default size switches back to 3.00" x 4.57". Does anyone know how to fix this?

I try to automate my printing procedure in photoshop. The problem is that I don't know how to select the printer and select the icc profile for printing with vbscript like I manually do in the print-menu in photoshop?

You need to ask the printing service provider. Dealing with color totally depends on the printing process involved and of course the machines used.

Color profile for print

Do I need color profile for print taged in the file?
I need to print some photos at LAB (photo lab) and they print in color space sRGB.
I have created through Adobe Raw a JPEG file, which has untagged color profile.

Since you say the printer "prints in color profile sRGB", it sounds as though you should save your images tagged with the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.
If I'm understanding you correctly "Lab" does not mean "print lab", it's an acronym that describes an alternate color space for representing an image, fundamentally different from RGB. Print houses normally don't expect an image to be sent to them in Lab mode.

Trouble changing paper type for printing

I downloaded Photoshop Elements 11 to a new computer (with much more memory and speed that old computer) but now Photoshop does not work as well. When I try to change the paper type for printing, the setting is stuck at "plain paper" and there are no other options available. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

It sounds like a printer driver issue, not a PS issue. Can you update your printer driver on the new computer?

Loading icc profiles for printing

Converting to CMYK color profile (for print) in raw format

I am looking to self publish a cookbook in lightningsource. They need the photos in cmyk format. When is it best to convert to this color profile from rgb?

What I'm doing currently:
I click on my .arw image file and select "open in camera raw" which brings me to an editing screen. At the very bottom is says rgb, and 240 ppi
I need 300 ppi at least and cmyk color.
Now I know how to change these things in Photoshop, but I was taught that editing it in camera raw in bridge is better to preserve quality for print.
Should I just edit it in raw and then convert to 300 dpi and cmyk color in photoshop? Or is there a way to do this in bridge? Whats the difference? Any advice will help, trying to make my pictures look amazing in print

Correct me if I misunderstood anything!
You are on the right track except for the ppi story. The ppi settings just are a figure expressing the amount of pixels stored in 1 inch, without the width and height figures of the image itself you can't do much with it and just changing this figure is not changing the total amount of available pixels.
For instance create a new document at 300 ppi and use the international paper size A4 (21 x 29,7 cm). The amount of pixels is 2480 x 3508 (roughly the result of an 8 MP dSLR.
Use the image size option in PS and be sure to not resample (meaning creating new pixels or deleting pixels to alter the original file size that is 24,9 MB). Now change the amount of pixels to whatever you like. If you increase the number the width and height decrease, and vice versa. Yet the amount of pixels and file size stay at 2480 x 3508 and 24,9 MB.
But with the specs of wanted width and height for the end result of 300 ppi starts making sense.
For instance you have a image at the size of a post stamp and an image at international paper size (A4) and both are 300 ppi. The small post stamp size would be in cm about 2 x 3,5 while the A4 size has about 21 x 30 cm width and height.
So you can imagine having both needed to be printed at the A4 size in 300 dpi (printers work with dots, hence they use dpi - dots per inch- and while not the same they both often use the 300 figure and stand for pretty high quality result) the A4 sized original will meet the wanted standards without problems while the post stamp would have to be resampled to the new A4 size and when having still 300 ppi needed there would be a lot of interpolation (creating new pixels to match the new size) and this would often result in pixelated or worse quality print result, because PS has to use guess (albeit quit educated guessing) work to add more pixels that are needed to reach the new dimensions.
ACR has the advantage to set the ppi by default at 300 but as said, as long as you don't alter width and height of the original it is just a figure without any significant importance until you know the complete specs for the output source.

HP c7180 ICC Profiles for printing in Lightroom 2.0

How do I find ICC profiles for the various HP photo papers and then import them into Lightroom 2.0.

OK so I've done some testing now using the Lab 33 x 33 x 33 image.
Photoshop seems washed out when printing on photo paper pro but is far more accurate than in lightroom.
I also did an experiment and in Colour matching picked Vendor matching and in the Colour Options printed one with None selected and one with Driver matching selected - the one with Driver matching was much closer to the image on screen.
I also deiscovered that there is a bug in Lightroom which causes Colour matching options to be grayed out. I guess this is something I should be telling Adobe about.

Have a Epson Stylus 2200 photo printer. Need to load icc profiles from Ilford.com for the Galeria printing papers. Need some guidance in loading these icc profiles.

Photoshop Black and White profile for printing

I'm a black and white photographer, so this issue is extremely important for me to resolve. I've been looking online and I have yet to find the answer, so I hope someone can help.
I need to know how to set up the black and White profiles in Photoshop for printing. The printer I have is a canon Pixma Pro 9000 a mark II
I need true black and white. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions. If you need me to provide additional information let me know.

I frequently print black & white work on an Epson, using the Advanced black & white feature in the print driver.
A quick internet search found that there is something similar for Canon - Canon : PIXMA Manuals : Digital Photo Printing Guide : Black and White Printing
I print scanned grayscale files, and have the grayscale profile in PS set to Gamma 2.2.
If you are printing digital photos, they will be RGB, but that will probably not make any difference. But you have to read the documentation for the Canon to find out if it will. IOW - if the image should be Grayscale or RGB.
One very important thing when printing like this is to set the printer to manage colors (not PS) in the PS Print dialog.

CMYK Profile for Printing

I have just migrated from CS3 to CS4 Extended. And now when I convert my image from RGB to CYMK, I am asked to set up a profile. I use photoshop for press printing. Which default CYMK profile I should go for?

OK. First, Rick McCleary's advice was good, best case scenario is to have a custom ICC profile describing your precise print conditions (your in-house press, the print standard, the inks, stock).
If you don't have such a profile you can use others. The three Rick mentioned describe various print conditions on coated paper. Each has a specified total ink limit which is an important consideration. To check this, make a blank CMYK document. Assign the profile. Hit "D". Click on the foreground black color and add the CMYK numbers
Japan newspaper has a TIL of 240. The profile describes an average newspaper print condition in Japan.
US Web Coated SWOP has TIL of 300, with black ink limit of 90. It describes US Web Press printing to SWOP standard on a coated sheet. The two Web profiles Rick McCleary specified have TIL of 307 and 300, with black ink limits of 97 and 98.
TIL needs to be less for uncoated stock. It can't accept as much ink. As the paper stacks up at the delivery end, if there is too much ink it can offset on the back side of the sheet. This is especially likely to happen with a large image with lots of shadow area.
Since you mentioned US Web Coated SWOP and Japan Newspaper, perhaps you've been using them in CS3. If so, and your press runs have been consistent and reliable, you could also use the same profiles in CS4.

Selecting the tray or the roll as the paper source for printing

my printing machine is a canon ipf 5100.With Aperture 2 it was easy to select "tray" or "roll" in the printer driver.With Aperture 3 it is impossible because their is no such option in the Aperture 3 driver.I have tried to download the last version of the ipf 5100 printer driver but Aperture 3 doesn't take it.What can i do to recover my options "tray" or "roll" for my choice of paper?

Your wording has me confused. You said you were unable to select tray or roll in the printer driver originally. I showed you where the roll selection is; if you do not select roll in the driver, then it will use tray for all the other selections are cut-sheet paper.
You last message says you can only select roll in the printer. Make these selections on the computer from the print driver, not the physical printer.
