PSE 12 reimport to LR 5 trouble

Hi,
I exported a photo from LR5 to PSE 12, and made a few adjustments to the image. However, upon completion and saving the image, it does not automatically re-import to LR 5. My PS CS5 used to after I was finish editing a photo.
Please help. Thanks!

You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD) or right-click and choose Open In PSE
2) Edit in PSE; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
3) Ctrl+W to close in PSE and update Lightroom thumbnail.
On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
The important point is to overwrite the LR export copy by using File >> Save (Ctlr+S) because if you use “Save As” you create a new document which LR knows nothing about.

  • Trouble "getting" photos in PSE 8 Organizer

I'm trying to bring photos into PSE 8 Organizer. I've used PSE 5 and 6 with no problem. Now I've upgraded my computer to a new, 64-bit Windows 7 computer (Dell Inspiron), and a new PSE 8. I've imported my PSE 6 catalog with, apparently, no trouble.
Now when I try to get new files, I can't select them in the "Get Photos and Videos" window. I can see the files I want, but when I try to click to select them, they either won't select at all, or they select the folder above or below the one I want, or they select a different folder and show a duplicate of the same folder, or the folder I want disappears.
It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen!
    Any ideas what's happening???

Hmm, haven't heard of those symptoms before.
As a workaround, try dragging individual files, selections of multiple files, or entire folders into the Organizer.  Does importing them that way work?

  • Do photos get resized when sending from PSE 6 to PE 4?

Do photos get resized when moving them from PSE 6 to PE4?
I've come to understand that using overly large photos in slide shows in PE 4 can cause lots of issues, and its recommended to resize photos to 1000x750 (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bb8822c) before including them in a slide show in PE4. I'm trying to understand the implications of working with photos in PSE 6 and then moving to PE 4 vs. just doing it directly in PE 4.
I can imagine (at least) two scenarios:
    1. I have all my photos in PE6 and want to work ONLY in PE4. I'm guessing i would resize my photos in the PSE 6 Organizer by using File-->Export and picking a smaller file size (e.g., 1024 x 768) and then import them into PE4 and build my slide show there.
    2. I have all my photos in PSE 6 and want to to create a slide show there and then move it to PE 4 to touch it up or do some fancy stuff to it. Will the photos be resized so PE 4 won't have trouble with them or do i need to resize them in PSE 6, reimport them into PSE 6, build the slide show, and THEN send it to PE 4?

    eric,
See my post over at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b85fd0/4
for reasons why I think that for your current objectives, working in Premiere Elements (rather than making a slide show in PSE) will be a better choice.
    >1. I have all my photos in PE6 and want to work ONLY in PE4. I'm guessing i would resize my photos in the PSE 6 Organizer by using File-->Export and picking a smaller file size (e.g., 1024 x 768) and then import them into PE4 and build my slide show there.
    Yes.
    A couple of considerations
1- Where will you establish the sequence of the photos in the slide show?
Are you making an Album in PSE 6 in order to establish the sequence of the slides as you are selecting which photos to use? if YES, we can experiment with sending the photo files in their Album sequence to Premiere Elements.
Or will you establish the sequence of the photos within Premiere Elements?
2- When working in Premiere Elements will you be able to do the 600 slides in a single PE project?
I don't know the answer to this: it will be influenced by your system configuration.

  • Frame by Frame editing of Video in PSE

Hi and good morning and Happy New Year to all @ Adobe Support,
I have had more versions of Adobe PSE than I really like to think about, not to mention other various Adobe products.
To go directly to my question, I had thought that I had used PSE to edit frame by frame videos ?
Have I gone bonkers ? I just purchased PSE and PE to make sure I could edit a few short videos that I wanted to draw in simple things like lines, drops, arrows, etc. Now it seems I have two products that both can't accomplish this and apparently I cannot get a straight answer to what I should have on your site or in the forum or anywhere else, for that fact. I'm hoping you are not going to tell me I need a 500 dollar program to do this ! I only have a dozen videos I would like to paint or draw in and the last time I needed this was 1992 or there abouts. I am a Mac user and currently have 10.9.1 installed. Just for your information the installation went of without a hitch for both products on Mavericks and appear to be working fine, aside from the fact I can't frame edit videos in either one.
Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter,
    Wade Arnold
    Apple and Adobe Enthusiast

The most recent version of PSE removed the ability to import a frame from a video file. I suspect this is what you were thinking of.
However I assume by 'PE' you mean Premiere Elements (PRE), the video editor. You can still export a clip from PRE as a sequence of still images that you can then edit in PSE and reimport back to PRE. This is in Publish+Share> Computer> Image> Advanced, check 'Export as sequence'.
However from your description you might be better off using the tools in Titler within PRE to draw your lines and arrows - this is way simpler than doing so frame by frame in PSE.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • Full screen view in PSE 10 crashes under both W7 32 and W7 64

    Hello
I am testing PSE 10 (I have PSE 6) and have installed PSE 10 under both WIndows 7 64 bit and WIndows 7 32 bit.  Both installations are fully updated.  The hardware is the same for all three of my regular XP (PSE 6) and these PSE 10 installs.  The catalogs and images are on a separate large drive (one directory set for PSE 10, one directory set for PSE 6).
I have found that PSE 10 crashes after a period of time when showing images in full screen mode (the slide show mode).  It is hard to say how long it will take, but somwhere around after diplaying 100-200 images PSE 10 crashes.  Worst case was after about the fourth (it might even have been the second).  Sound is 'none', captions are disabled, update rate is 2 seconds.
I have put PSE 6 on the W7 32 bit install and it runs perfectly.  (I am only using the PSE 10 organizer, I haven't tried the editor in any dpeth as yet).  PSE 6 ran for hours in slide show mode with not a hitch.
I have rebuilt and optimized the catalog (but the PSE 10 Organizer will run without trouble for hours if I am not in full screen slide show mode), so I don't think the catalog is damaged.
I have switched off all those background features (from the preferences).  I have run in XP compatibility mode.
This is a fresh W7 install and has no problems reported in it (AV etc).  There are no disk errors for example.  The PC has 8GB RAM (~3.6 available under W7 32 bit).  There is a lot of free space on both the C: drive and the data drive (100s of GB).
The Microsoft support for the crash is 'no support available' from the event viewer (or the W7 system health report accessed from the control panel).
Google search on the crash shows no useful light either, basically the Organizer just crashes.
Neither Adobe's search or a Google search on the forum seem to find a suitable similar experience.
All images are jpegs and are roughly the same size, very approximatly 4MB each.
Any other suggestions I can try?

    I’ve found a work-round.
This is embarrassing (for Adobe), as the work-round is to set the CPU affinity to single cpu mode. With that PSE 10 has been running in slide show mode for 3 hours now.  Looking good!
On a temporary basis, from the task manager, show the ‘processes’ tab, right click on the PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe *32 process, choose ‘Set Affinity …’ unselect ‘All’ and select (check) any one CPU.  (Under W7 32 bit I guess you won’t get the *32)
For a more permanent fix, using the start command with the affinity option is needed.  This is not compatible with the PSE 10 launcher though, if you use the launcher you will need to set the affinity as shown above.
To use the start command, from a command prompt type start /? for the syntax..
Try a google search of  “how to set the processor affinity” for further advice.
Now, should Adobe be reading this thread I have some advice for them:
“It is NOT POSSIBLE to conduct a reliability test of a program using a virtualized environment”.
I made the error of assuming that after the PSE 6 fiasco in a multi-cpu environment Adobe would not make the same mistake again.  Well, they have.  Perhaps this time they will conduct a root cause analysis of what they are doing wrong with their test plans and FIX IT, because I object to doing their testing for them, again.

  • Photo tags not working in Elements 11

I upgaded to Eements 11 from 10 but now all the tagged photos will not come up when I hit the tag on the right on the Organize page.  I tried editing category of the tag from "imported" to "Other" but still no go unless I click on their file on the left sideof the page.  Is this a change from E 10 or is there some adjustment I need to make?

    Hello to everyone,
I'm new in this forum - but not new to PSE  ;-) - and that's where the troubles begins... ;-))
I think that jhurst098 encounters the same problem as I do: why did adobe implement this `advanced search`?
In previews versions like PSE 8 it was such a funny thing to work with this tags - just select/unselect the checkbox in the front of the names of the tags (even a right-click to `invert` the selection was possible).
After I installed PSE 11 I was pretty disappointed - the functionality of the tag-view is very degraded - the rather shrinked view of the `advanced search` is quit annoying - for me at least...
What I am doing wrong - or is it as it is?
    Thanks
    Thomas
    ps:
If I could choose I would like to have an advanced tag-view - that means:
    - have back the checkbox in front of the names of the tags (in the tagview) so you can easily select/unselect certain tags.
    - have two buttons to show/hide pictures that make only part of certain tags - or of no tags at all (instead of that unhandy dropdown `option` in the advanced search)
    - have an area where all of my current selected tags are shown up to let me easily deselect previous selected tags and let me specify ANDs and ORs by grouping the currently selected tags
to select eg. all photos of: (`mama` OR `grandma`) AND `garden`
    - show up the number of photos that make part of the tag (depending what tags already have been selected)

I have photoshop elements 9, my computer has ceased working and need to reinstall on my new computer.  How do i deactivate or get a new serial number for my programme.  I am desperately trying to use the programme.

You shouldn't need a new serial, just use your present serial for pse 9 and if you have trouble activating pse 9 on your new computer or want to get back the activation you lost, use the

  • Clean up Dust/Scratches on iPhoto Based Pix ?

Background:  I have current Mac/iPhoto software and a CanonScan 9000F that came with PSE 8. I plan to scan about 25 trays of old slides and get them organized with iPhoto. The first two trays have been imported to iPhoto events and they turned our relatively well with one major exception. These trays were the oldest ones  (40+ years) and they have a good deal of dust and fibers. Is there a way I can export these events into PSE 8 and automatically have it remove the dust, etc from these initial 200 photos? And then import them back into iPhoto?
Are there any documented "how to" procedures covering this subject.   Thanks much in advance.

Set up PSE as your external editor in the iphoto prefs and send the photos from iphoto to PSE, or export them to the desktop, use file>open in PSE and reimport them to iphoto as new files.
If you use PSE as external editor, save, not Save As, without changing the name or format and iphoto will keep one edited version plus original. You may need to go to PSE>prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to set this up right.
In PSE try the Dust and Scratches filter, the spot healing brush, etc. Hard to make a recommendation without seeing a photo.

  • Trouble upgrading from PSE 3.0 to PSE 8.0

I'm getting an unusable format of my ver 8.0 when upgrading from ver 3.0. My 3.0 PHOTO browser is OK but my 3.0 FILE browser is a mess because I moved many files by "getting" pictures and "deleting from catalog" rather than using the FILE browser in Editor. Does ver 8.0 look at the PHOTO browser or the FILE browser when installing. If this is the problem, is there a way to re-initialize or update the ver 3.0 file browser before I install ver 8.0. I'm using Windows XP SP3. I'll appreciate any help. I'm stuck.

I have used Windows Explorer to managemy directories and files for some time. Last night while trying to get a handle on what was happening I found two troubling things. First, adding or deleting categories and sub-categories in PSE 3 Organizer does not add or delete them in the Editor File Browser. Not having used the File Editor for some time I never discovered this. I'm sure that somewhere, early on in my use of PSE 3, I found information that lead me to believed that the two browsers held the same information.
The second thing has also escaped me for some time because I ignored the File Browser. There was a second copy of the Documents folder and the My Pictures folder in the File Browser. These were relics from a long time ago when I had placed shortcuts to both the Documents folder and the My Pictures folder on my desktop because it made it easier to access them. As I grew more familiar with using the program I realized that a shortcut to Windows Explorer was all I needed. So, I sent both the Documents and Pictures shortcuts to the Recycle bin. That, of course, as I found with Categories and Sub-categories, did not remove the short cuts from the File Browser. I was not aware that the shortcuts were still in the File Browser. All of this simply means that when I tried to upgrade to PSE 8 it was confused. When I removed PSE 8 after the bad install things got more scrambled.
I have removed the second copies of Documents and Pictures and am now starting on the, I'm afraid, long process of getting my files in order. It's clear to me why the two browsers didn't agree. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

  • Trouble Importing Files PSE 7 to Windows 7 (32 bit)

I am attempting to install PSE 7 into a computer running Windows 7, 32 bit.
The installation was a success to the extent that I was able to connect a catalog containing a huge amount of photos, (180,000 +) to the organizer, and after several hours of "generating thumbnails" the installation seemed to have stabilized.
However, when I try to import new photos, the "get photos from files and folders" operation takes ridiculous amounts of time, and is sort of "hit or miss" in that it sometimes it hangs altogether and I have to use "task manager" to shut down PSE.
Other than this, the program seems to be working normally (!) or maybe (?)
I have tried various compatibility modes, (XP SP2, Vista, Vista SP 1 & 2) with very little difference in results. Well, maybe Vista SP 2 was a tiny bit better.
The computer this is installed in is a Pentium C2D 2.8Ghz (E6300) w/ 2 GB of DDR2 800Mhz RAM. So, it's got plenty of "juice" to deal with PSE's requirements.
My photo files are stored in folders & sub-folders on a separate internal HDD (750GB WD).
Both PSE 5 and 7 work on 3 other computers containing the identical catalogs and photos, in basically the same configuration, including separate storage drives for each. These machines are running Windows XP SPs 2 or 3 (I use multiple computers as a back up strategy, copying the entire existing HDD to another, then install the drive into another machine, import the catalog file into PSE, and change the HDD letter to match that of the existing catalog). Done this way, the PSE installation is identical to that in the previous machine, and is up and running rapidly.
launching such  a large catalog takes a bit of time to initialize, or search (understandably), but on these other machines there is no trouble importing, locating, or managing files.
I should add that on the Windows 7 machine, Windows Explorer works quite well in accessing all of the photo files, so this sort of rules out a problematic Hard drive.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Ellis, PSE 7 is simply not permitting me to drag folders from Windows Explorer into the organizer. It just blows up the dreaded "black circle with diagonal slash", and that's the end of the issue, at least as far as PSE 7 is concerned.
Since I've had to terminate this program abnormally several times, it resets the preferences upon restart. The other day it hung when I was trying to set preferences, so as you might expect, I'm very cautious about making changes. I don't know if changing any preferences would enable drag and drop, I'm just trying to illuminate the eggshells I'm walking in trying to stabilize the program.
In answer to your question, about the "documents and settings folder", no, I'm not using in any of my photo file paths. I realize I may have confused the issue with that statement, it was out of context. But my purpose in doing so was to obviate the differences in file paths that PSE is expecting, and the file paths that I'm using. Perhaps that was a bad example.
I almost never use either the "My Documents" or the My Pictures" folders in Windows, nor do I allow PSE to use them. Storing data of any kind on the OS drive (C:/) is not in my repertoire of "stupid things I like to do, even if they're destined to end badly".
All of my computers have a minimum of 2 physical HDDs, not partitions. All video, music, photos, program installer files, etc. are stored on a discreet, separate, HDDs, (identified in "My Computer" as, (IE) " G: Volume")). The "C:/" drives are exclusively for Windows and installed programs.
That said, a typical file path to a group of photos in my computer would be, "My Computer" > "G:/ Volume" > "My Digital Photos" > "Airshows" > "McGuire AFB 2007" (In case you're wondering, I'm way too lazy to go through that each time, so I add desktop shortcuts to the extra HDDs and even the largest folders).
As you are well aware, that is completely different from the file path that PSE would choose by default. A file path for which I have a great deal of disdain. But, that is another complicated and contentious issue, which doesn't have a clear winner thus far.
Anyhoo, I think that PSE would "appear" more compatible (and probably is )with Windows 7 if it were allowed to follow it's own choices as to where to store the photo files. One supposes the folders that Windows 7 "creates" for earlier programs further aids (supposed) compatibility.
As I mentioned in one of my other somewhat long winded posts, I now have a viable option for importing photos, "find photos by searching", the manual drill down modus operandi. Works great!
I'm not expecting this installation of PSE to do any, "heavy lifting" with respect to editing, or a resting place for un-backed up photos . It's in a new machine I just built for the primary purpose of, extra backup,  recording TV, and perhaps installing a Bluray drive. The motherboard has HDMI output, so it plugs into the TV directly, and the PSE slideshow function works perfectly.  With a 40" TV, it's even better than a slide projector for boring relatives with vacation photos!
So, although this thread is still marked as "unanswered", I do have a workaround solution. There should be a check box indicating, "it won't ever be answered until Adobe issues a patch"! (Like that's going to happen).
Again Mr. Ellis, thank you very much for your interest in this issue. I might add that I have read your page on problems with PSE and it's obvious that you have applied a great deal of thought, effort, experience, and industry toward helping people deal with PSE more effectively.
As an afterthought I have several copies of PSE laying around, 2,3,5, & 7, (some in multiples) and I've never had a serious problem with any of them. So I'm actually astounded when I see the litany of issues that apparently manifest themselves. This is my first actual issue, and Windows 7 is pretty upfront about PSE 7 being an incompatible application.

  • PSE has trouble displaying .jpg or .psd files

I just upgraded from PSE ver 5 to PSE ver 8.  For some reason, ver 8 has some trouble displaying some .jpg and .psd files in the editor.  .nef files (raw) are no problem.  Some of the .jpg/.pse files display as a 'broken file" image, or are blurry if I double click them in editor..  If I right click on the image and go to edit, I am able to edit it and save it, but the resulting saved file may or may not be displayed.  Attempts to add unmanaged files to the catalog have not helped.  Any suggestions?

No, filter uses the jpgs AFAIK. They are in Photoshop too. They are seamless so you could use them as is and define them as patterns; then again you can also use the PSD files to make patterns. The grass jpg is a good one to turn into a pattern.
If you want to use them with the filters that require PSD files just save a copy of each in PSD file format. You might also think about making them black and white so you can tinker with how they will apply the texture. (White is high; black is low; 50% gray is neutral. Colors act as shades of gray so black and white might help you better predict what the result will be.)

  • PSE 12 Trouble

I have several versions of PS elements all work fine. When I uloaded my first small batch to the organizer(PSE 12) it announced they were not connected and then began searching files? When a pic is double clicked it opens the pic but is blurry? Can anyone help? Thanks BUDS

Sounds as though the pictures are no longer in the place where they should be - the blurry picture is PSE using it's internally created thumbnail.
    Many possibilities:
if you moved them with Windows Explorer or Mac Finder, Organizer will no longer know where they are.
if you imported them to a removable hard disk that has since been removed, or now has a different drive letter, they won't be found.
if you imported them from the camera, or via a card reader, but did not copy them to a hard disk (and have since disconnected the camera or card reader) they will not be found.
Do any of these scenarios seem likely?

  • Action trouble, PSE 9 and Windows 8

I am having a hard time loading actions into PSE 9 sincee ive got Windows 8, using the same process for windows 7 but no luck.

You may need to re-boot. New items are usually added right at the bottom of the list, so scroll right down the list.
If that makes no difference you probably need or rebuild the media database.
Close Photoshop Elements Editor and Organizer.
    Navigate to:
      C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_us
      Delete the file Mediadatabase.db3.
Re-launch Photoshop Elements Editor. A progress bar appears as the media database is re-created. Wait for this process to complete. It make take some time and the screen may periodically go blank; so go away and get yourself a coffee and be patient.
