PSE 13 installation

Hallo,

  • PSE installation issues - How do you uninstall trial version???

I've read several posts about this already, but I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall the trial version of PSE for mac. (I am getting the critical errors/incompatible payloads error message. Shame on Adobe for not fixing this yet.)
I read not to dump it into the trash. But when I launch the program from untilities I don't see any option to unintall. One post said to "remove it" How do you do this? The delete key doesn't work. How on earth do you uninstall something? I can't even get into the trial version because it keeps asking for a serial number (and I've read entering it doesn't help. I'm so lost, and really didn't plan on spending my hard earned Friday night doing this.) Any help would be much much appreciated!

There is no uninstaller. The only two icons in the Adobe Installer folder were something called Exented Scripts Installer and the Photoshop Elements icon. I got tired of messing around with it after several hours and finally ran the cleanscript 3 program which worked; I was able to install the purchased version right away. It still really bothers me that I could not figure out how to uninstall though, I'm sure I will need to in the future.
I wonder if my computer is just missing this installer/uninstaller option?

  • Deactivate? PSE installation issue

I am trying to install a PSE-9 on new computer and restore from back up. The PSE on the new computer has no "File" in the organizer to open to do the Restore. Does this have to do with deactivation?
I am moving from XP to Win 7 and have a question as to how to restore to a "New Location with the Restore Original Folder Structure". The location of the files on the old computer was: C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry\My Documents\My Pictures\(year)\file name. I would like the location on the new computer to be C:\Users\Jerry\My Pictures\(year)\file name. I would like to avoid making it longer as shown in the example in the help section: c:\ My Picture Album\Documents and Settings\Jerry\My Documents\My Pictures\(year)\file name. How can I do this?

I am forwarding this from the storage and sharing forum to the installation forum so that they can assist you.

  • Exporting Categories and Tag Associations to New PSE Installations

    Hi,
Traditionally I have always organised my photos in folders.  Although there are definite limitations with this method I can move my photos to different PC's without loss of the organisation.  Since I am a software developer I oftern rebuild my PC and try out new windows OS's.
Last night I played around with Catagorizing and Taging photos.  Due to the number of photos I have it will be a huge task to get them all done.  With that thought I do not want to put 'all that time in' if I cannot migrate the catagory and tag associations with the photos to a new installation of PSE.
I have been unable to see how this is done in the literature.  Any help would be much appreciated.
    Geordie

PSE versions 5 and earlier were pretty good about not corrupting their database files.  I think PSE versions 6 and later are even better -- they are built using a very well-regarded database technology called SQLite that is used by many commercial products, include Apple's OS X.  I've seen no reports of users losing their catalog information.
However, the PSE application does have bugs which in some circumstances writes incorrect information into the catalog database files (e.g. the wrong drive where your photos are stored).    Also, since PSE 6 Adobe has provided very poor support for upgrading to new versions of PSE, and some people have had a lot of trouble upgrading and/or have lost information when they upgrade.  Strictly speaking, this is not "database corruption" as engineers would use the term, though many users would probably called it "corruption".

  • PSE Installation hangups

I recently purchased Photoshop 11 & Premiere Elements Combo. Software installation stops at ' installing shared technologies' and won't proceed. I have tried the suggested renaming of the OOBE, copying the installation file to the root directory and even chatting with an agent who advised that they do not support this product. I'm fast running out of options and am open and appreciative of all suggestions. I am not very expert at these things when errors occur and would certainly appreciate any assistance that a cyber simpleton like me is able to follow.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

    Ron,
Though you mention both Photoshop Elements, and Premiere Elements, it appears that your first issue is with Shared Technologies in Photoshop Elements. That is why I Moved your post here.
There are several threads on Shared Technologies issues (for several different Adobe programs). I am sure that the regulars here can point you to some of those threads.
If those do not help, and you get Photoshop Elements running, but still have issues with Premiere Elements (separate programs), BarbaraB can Branch your thread to the Premiere Elements Forum.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why does PSE 12 installation continually fail?

Despite repeated attempts with Adobe Support, I am unable to get PSE 12 installed due to "Shared Technologies" installation failure. After 20-30 minutes of attempting an install, I receive an error message saying that Shared Technologies has failed to install and a full uninstall is required (another 15-20 minutes). I find nothing in the PSE installation log files, I have tried everything (I do mean absolutely everything) suggested in the forums, support, knowledgebase and/or what Adobe Support has suggested (which really hasn't been sub-par). I even provided Adobe Support my log files and - in response - they told me to uninstall "Bit Defender" anti-virus (which I do not have nor have I ever had on my machine). Anyone else have their PSE 12 installation continually fail?

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I’m not sure what exactly you mean by “removing the bits” in-between times but I have removed the installation and OOBE folders (after renaming them didn’t help either). As recommended in a forum or by Support, I created a root-level folder (c:
PSE12_Install), saved the installation file(s) to that folder and ran “As Administrator” the EXE from that location. I tried that three (3) different times and each time I deleted the folder and OOBE folder. I restart each time plus I run ccleaner.exe to make certain there is no legacy registry entries or undeleted files.

  • How to install PSE 9 on Mountain Lion (Mac)?

I recently transferred from Mаcbook Pro to Macbook Air using Migration Assistant. When I started Elements for the first time on MBAir, it said that something was wrong with the installed Elements and I should reinstall. First I used the Air's ability to use another computer's DVD drive (it has none itself). The installer failed. Then I used an outboard USB DVD drive, but the installer failed again. I then deleted the Elements on the new computer and tried to install again using the disk in the USB drive. It failed. If there is anybody there who can help, i'd very much appreciate it!

Did you go around after running cleanscript and delete everything manually? Cleanscript just breaks all the internal links. You have to do the work. Check especially hard drive>library>application support>adobe.
You can never successfully migrate PSE. The migration assistant is designed to deal with applications which follow the apple developer guidelines and are nice tidy self-contained packages with everything in the Applications folder, whereas the PSE installer is more like buckshot--it strews necessary bits all over your hard drive in many places the MA isn't programmed to look.

  • Re-installing PSE 10 on Win 7 pro 64

I'm having a issue involving re-installing PSE/PE10 onto my new Win 7 pro 64 home build.
    It started with-
I had an issue right in the middle of installing software onto this new machine.
I have multiple Hard Drives installed and during a recovery from being hit with some bugs (malware/virus) during all this installation I thought it best to unplug some of those drives to minimize potential damage.
I had already installed PSE/PE 10 onto those drives and when I finally got back up and running the links to these installed programs no longer worked. Trying to re-define the links proved too much and so I thought a complete re-install of both programs should do it.
    I un-installed both programs
Un-install, cleaned registry, found more folders (reading forums here) deleted those, cleaned registry, rebooted thru several of these processes,..and did manage to re-install PE 10, but PSE 10 is giving me fits and I can't figure out what else to do.
I go to re-install PSE 10 and the only choice I get is to REMOVE the s/w from the pc (even tho it's already uninstalled). Okay, I'll do that and THEN proceed but- after offering to deactivate my software on this pc (okay I can do that) the only option it then gives me is to delete, fine, but when I select that option it then takes me to a window that informs me that the disk doesn't have the room available and even tho other disks are avail to click on, doing so doesn't allow any other selections to be made. The TARGET area (even tho it is for uninstall) is the install disk drive and I can't make another selection. So it ultimately does nothing!
I managed to get PE 10 back onto the drive, what in the world remnants are staying behind to give Win 7 the impression that I still have the program installed and not allowing me to do just that- re-install it??
Could really use some assistance on doing this before I wipe the whole HD as a last resort- ugh!
ps- uninstalled Air, Organizer and any/all folders I could find related to anything Adobe thinking it was interferring with this

    I managed to RegEdit those areas but must have gotten heavy heanded in that, after cleaning all instances of Adobe out of the Registry I get another problem. I just went to try and install PSE 10 after doing as much cleaning as I know how;
checking the registry as you suggested
running a registry tool to check for  missing links etc
rebooting after each pass to clean the drive
When I went to install it tells me an error on the windows installer- "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your suppport"
I must have taken too much out of the Registry. Is there a method to restore? Would that fix the issue?
    Thanks for the assistance
ps- FYI, upon trying to run the PE10 installer it seems as if that was going to work. I cancelled out of it until I fix the PSE 10 issue. But it did get further than the PSE installer and no error messages.

  • Trouble Importing Files PSE 7 to Windows 7 (32 bit)

I am attempting to install PSE 7 into a computer running Windows 7, 32 bit.
The installation was a success to the extent that I was able to connect a catalog containing a huge amount of photos, (180,000 +) to the organizer, and after several hours of "generating thumbnails" the installation seemed to have stabilized.
However, when I try to import new photos, the "get photos from files and folders" operation takes ridiculous amounts of time, and is sort of "hit or miss" in that it sometimes it hangs altogether and I have to use "task manager" to shut down PSE.
Other than this, the program seems to be working normally (!) or maybe (?)
I have tried various compatibility modes, (XP SP2, Vista, Vista SP 1 & 2) with very little difference in results. Well, maybe Vista SP 2 was a tiny bit better.
The computer this is installed in is a Pentium C2D 2.8Ghz (E6300) w/ 2 GB of DDR2 800Mhz RAM. So, it's got plenty of "juice" to deal with PSE's requirements.
My photo files are stored in folders & sub-folders on a separate internal HDD (750GB WD).
Both PSE 5 and 7 work on 3 other computers containing the identical catalogs and photos, in basically the same configuration, including separate storage drives for each. These machines are running Windows XP SPs 2 or 3 (I use multiple computers as a back up strategy, copying the entire existing HDD to another, then install the drive into another machine, import the catalog file into PSE, and change the HDD letter to match that of the existing catalog). Done this way, the PSE installation is identical to that in the previous machine, and is up and running rapidly.
launching such  a large catalog takes a bit of time to initialize, or search (understandably), but on these other machines there is no trouble importing, locating, or managing files.
I should add that on the Windows 7 machine, Windows Explorer works quite well in accessing all of the photo files, so this sort of rules out a problematic Hard drive.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Ellis, PSE 7 is simply not permitting me to drag folders from Windows Explorer into the organizer. It just blows up the dreaded "black circle with diagonal slash", and that's the end of the issue, at least as far as PSE 7 is concerned.
Since I've had to terminate this program abnormally several times, it resets the preferences upon restart. The other day it hung when I was trying to set preferences, so as you might expect, I'm very cautious about making changes. I don't know if changing any preferences would enable drag and drop, I'm just trying to illuminate the eggshells I'm walking in trying to stabilize the program.
In answer to your question, about the "documents and settings folder", no, I'm not using in any of my photo file paths. I realize I may have confused the issue with that statement, it was out of context. But my purpose in doing so was to obviate the differences in file paths that PSE is expecting, and the file paths that I'm using. Perhaps that was a bad example.
I almost never use either the "My Documents" or the My Pictures" folders in Windows, nor do I allow PSE to use them. Storing data of any kind on the OS drive (C:/) is not in my repertoire of "stupid things I like to do, even if they're destined to end badly".
All of my computers have a minimum of 2 physical HDDs, not partitions. All video, music, photos, program installer files, etc. are stored on a discreet, separate, HDDs, (identified in "My Computer" as, (IE) " G: Volume")). The "C:/" drives are exclusively for Windows and installed programs.
That said, a typical file path to a group of photos in my computer would be, "My Computer" > "G:/ Volume" > "My Digital Photos" > "Airshows" > "McGuire AFB 2007" (In case you're wondering, I'm way too lazy to go through that each time, so I add desktop shortcuts to the extra HDDs and even the largest folders).
As you are well aware, that is completely different from the file path that PSE would choose by default. A file path for which I have a great deal of disdain. But, that is another complicated and contentious issue, which doesn't have a clear winner thus far.
Anyhoo, I think that PSE would "appear" more compatible (and probably is )with Windows 7 if it were allowed to follow it's own choices as to where to store the photo files. One supposes the folders that Windows 7 "creates" for earlier programs further aids (supposed) compatibility.
As I mentioned in one of my other somewhat long winded posts, I now have a viable option for importing photos, "find photos by searching", the manual drill down modus operandi. Works great!
I'm not expecting this installation of PSE to do any, "heavy lifting" with respect to editing, or a resting place for un-backed up photos . It's in a new machine I just built for the primary purpose of, extra backup,  recording TV, and perhaps installing a Bluray drive. The motherboard has HDMI output, so it plugs into the TV directly, and the PSE slideshow function works perfectly.  With a 40" TV, it's even better than a slide projector for boring relatives with vacation photos!
So, although this thread is still marked as "unanswered", I do have a workaround solution. There should be a check box indicating, "it won't ever be answered until Adobe issues a patch"! (Like that's going to happen).
Again Mr. Ellis, thank you very much for your interest in this issue. I might add that I have read your page on problems with PSE and it's obvious that you have applied a great deal of thought, effort, experience, and industry toward helping people deal with PSE more effectively.
As an afterthought I have several copies of PSE laying around, 2,3,5, & 7, (some in multiples) and I've never had a serious problem with any of them. So I'm actually astounded when I see the litany of issues that apparently manifest themselves. This is my first actual issue, and Windows 7 is pretty upfront about PSE 7 being an incompatible application.

  • PSE 8 - Changing Dates - Serious problem

I have been using PSE for many years and have built up a library of almost 14,000 images, which are carefully tagged and dated, however I recently upgraded from PSE7 to PSE8 and, as recommended, I regenerated the thumbnails. I now find that PSE has changed the dates on about 4,000 of my photos and videos to the date of installation of PSE8 or of regeneration of thumbnails. The import date has remained unchanged but the date created and the date modified have both been changed on the file properties. The Exif Date as also been changed and mow matches the PSE Installation date as well.
I am running Windows 7 and first installed the trial version of PSE8 while I waited for the boxed version to come.
Since I am also experiencing some of the other bugs described in this forum, such as duplicated tags and the crashes when using people tagging etc. I am seriously thinking of going back to PSE7 and asking for a refund.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I did a backup of the catalog just before upgrading and I assume that I could restore that, and then import all the new pictures since the PSE8 upgrade.
Does anyone have any recommendations for fixing this situation? I suppose I could deinstall PSE8 and PRE8, do a fresh install from the official disks, restore my PSE7 backup and reimport the recent photos. I have to say this sounds like a lot of work though.
    Peter

Thanks for the reply, John.  After I wrote my post I found your comprehensive listing of resolved and unresolved problems with the PSE Organizer in 7 and 8 and saw that you had already found an unresolved issue with both 7 and 8 changing dates and times.
I have not consciously changed anything at Photoshop.com.  I'm only using the on-line backup/synchronization as one form of back up.  I also back up to an external hard drive and DVDs.  But now that the main files are corrupted, later backups will be corrupted, too.
I did have the advanced option to "Resolve backup/sync conflicts automatically" checked by mistake for awhile and I believe the date problem occurred while I had that option selected.  Now that I've de-selected that option, however, the improper dates/times keep regenerating themselves.
This program is a quite disappointing upgrade, all in all.  As you note, it is a lot slower in several ways than PSE 7 was.  The program size may itself account for that since it is more than three times larger than 7 was.  What kind of programmer allows an automatic backup function to override dates and times which the user has specified in response to a dialog box which specifically asks you to specify dates and times?  And what kind of programmer hides the selection of file types for backup under "Advanced Backup/sync Options"?  Out of the box, PSE 8 has no files selected for backup.  The Backup/sync icon indicates that it's operating normally even when nothing at all is being backed up because you haven't clicked on any file types under "Advanced Backup/sync Options.
I saw someone asking about other organizer programs for electronic photos and other files.  One which was not mentioned, which has a basically bulletproof organizer function, is Creative Memories Memory Manager 3 for about $40.  Editing features are quite limited, but functional with no glitches.  Organizing is the main thing here; editing is secondary, as you'd expect from a program aimed primarily at the digital scrapbooking market.  The entire program is very easy to learn and use and backups work without a hitch.  You could always edit in PSE and then use another program like Memory Manager 3 to organize your files as long as you don't save the edited files as .psd files.  See:  http://www.creativememories.com/MainMenu/Our-products-and-services/Digital-Scrapbooking/Me mory-Manager%c2%ae  The reason my wife and I moved to PSE from Memory Manager was the more sophisticated editing functions available in PSE, but by comparison PSE's Organizer is second rate, to be kind.

Interesting, this is another symptom of a known bug: Photoshop.com doesn't handle unknown month, day, or time fields. (This is ironic, given that Adobe has been pushing a revision to its XMP standard specifically for handling unknown date/time fields.)  See this post for other issues wth Photoshop.com:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2306550#2306550
After you first sync with Photoshop.com, you can see that the thumbnails on Photoshop.com have incorrect date/times.  But for me to reproduce your bug, I need to then change the tags or captions of the thumbnails on Photoshop.com.  Then when I sync again, the incorrect date/times get copied back into the PSE catalog. If I don't add a tag or caption on Photoshop.com, the incorrect date/times don't get copied back.
Are you making any changes to the tags or captions of the photos on Photoshop.com?

  • PSE 9 - Edit, Full list of effects & contents blank

How do I get the list back in the panel bin? I clicked every icon there and there are no list.  It was there from my old iMac but not in my new MacBook Pro.

Okay, you've created a major mess for yourself. You can never migrate PSE.  The PSE installer strews things all over your hard drive in places the MA isn't designed to look.
You will need to download and run this:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
and then scout around and manually remove all the bits you can find, not just in applications, but also in places like your hard drive>library>application support>adobe, then reinstall from scratch.

  • Restore - PSE 9.

    Hello,
I have purchased an iMac and would like to move my pictures from the old Macbook to this new iMac.
The Apple migration tool does not work as expected. Is there an easier way?
I tried the back-up/restore optins in elements, but for some reason when I select back-up it goes onto "search for missing file"  and never seems to finish.
Thank you everyone for your suport,
    Mike

First of all, I would strongly recommend reinstalling PSE from scratch on the new computer. Migrating an existing install almost always fails eventually, because the PSE installer strews stuff all over your hard drive in places the Migration Assistant isn't programmed to look.
I would repair and optimize your catalog on the old computer (File>Catalog), and reconnect any missing files. If you still can't back up, then I would just copy over your photos, keeping their locations as much as possible in the same location on the new computer, and then go to Help>System Info in the organizer on the old computer, which will show you the location of your catalog. Put it in the same place on the new computer and see if it can reconnect with your photos.

  • Install problems with PSE 8 free trial

I downloaded the free trial of PSE 8 from the Adobe site to my new computer running with VISTA.  I then was told I needed to unzip so I successfully downloaded a Winzip program which, as I guess is supposed to free up these large files.  I can't figure out what to do next.  When I go into the Winzip program, I see a bunch of unzipped files that, taken together, add up to about a 1.1 GB large download which is what PSE 8 is.  How do I proceed to install so I can finally get to the program?  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Ankush
    1. Download successful
    2. Launch EXE - no UAC, no AV, run as administrator
    3. As extraction reaches 100% a failure error displays (step 2 image below)
    4. Never actually get to start PSE installation. If the setup.exe file is run another error shows. Interestingly, setup.ini is empty 0 bytes.
My take is that the file for download is corrupt the .7z, possibly by the download manager or maybe in extraction.
What is very weird is that this has happened on both an old Vista install and now a fresh W7 (64bit) Pro install.
Could it be machine related? Maybe, but it would have to be a hardware conflict of some sort ...

  • PSE 8.0 WILL NOT DOWNLOAD CR FILES FROM CANON 1DMKIV

I have intslled and reinstalled PSE8.0 and the software STILL will not download the RAW files from the Canon 1DMKIV.
Downloads all other CR files from all my other Canon bodies fine.
I keep getting "Corruption or File already exists" errors yet if you check Adobe CS4 RAW files are downloaded fine.
    Any hints?
This is 2nd copy of PSE installation cds. Tech Support cannot find trouble.

    Thank You "99jon".
That did it ...FINALLY. ATTENTION TO USERS: DO NOT "DOWNLOAD PSE8 FROM ADOBE STORE"!!!! THIS FILE IS MISSING AND PLACED IN WRONG DUAL PSE FOLDER> FOLLOW WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS FOR PSE8. TIER 3 ADOBE SW ENGIN COULD NOT FIX!
After checking the PSE8 Program Files I discovered that the zip file was indeed previously downloaded but for some screwed up reason Adobe has place 2 files for PSE8.
After reading the "download text file" I found that the "exe" file was placed in the wrong file according to Adobe Download instructions.
After placing it in the file it should be AOK!!!! TESTED OK!! Plug-IN version still shows version 5.51 but it does dwnld 1DMKIV CR2 files now.
Submit your Pay Voucher to Adobe because they could not figure it out up to Tier 3 Software Support Engineering!!
