PSE 13 organizer consumes all available RAM and crashes

I have found that I am unable to use PSE13 Organizer for more than a couple of hours without my system becoming unstable. Organizer keeps requesting RAM until it has taken up all available RAM and my virtual memory file has expanded to fill the hard drive it is on. At this point Organizer and most other running programs crash, the system becomes unstable and Windows issues  out of memory warnings. I am at a loss as to what to do about this. Does anyone know if Adobe is planning on fixing this rather major bug?
I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit on an AMD X6 1090 with 16GB RAM.
Thanks

That's the first time I see that problem on Elements forums and bug reports.
Investigating your particular situation will require more info:
- on your hardware, your preferences (scratch disk)
- your organizer usage (photos or videos), autoanalyzer and other opened softwares
- any plugins?
What happens if you stop and restart the organizer at shorter intervals? Do you see the RAM and virtual memory grow the same way?
The only remotely similar situation I have met on all Elements versions is the impossibility to delete a large number of files in the same batch. The Organizer slowly fills all the RAM, then issues an error message and rolls back to the situation before the delete command. No crash.

  • SMTPD consumes all available RAM resources

    Hi all,
    I have a mail server that has extremely heavy disk activity after a few minutes of being booted, I have narrowed this down to heavy RAM usage by the SMTPD process.
    In Activity monitor, multiple SMTPD processes are spawned, consuming up to 2GB of real memory each (server has 8GB of RAM).
    The server keeps spawning these processes until there is too many, and it becomes unresponsive. As more spawn, the amount of real RAM used by each reduces, but the overall total remains the same.
    I think each process should only be using 1-2MB per instance.
    Server specs:
    10.5.7 server, external XServe RAID connected via fibre channel holds the mail.
    Connected to an OD system (not a replica).
    OD master and replica sit on separate XServes, also running 10.5.7. Approx 1300 users on the OD server.
    Is there a dud setting in /etc/postfix/master.cf or main.cf that may cause this, or is there something else at fault?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

    I think I might have found the problem, there is a bunch of these entries in the log file:
    CFPreferences: user home directory at /var/imap is unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
    Called Apple and they said to re-select the mail store location in Server Admin -> Mail -> Settings -> Advanced -> Database
    This seems to have done the trick, all the smtpd daemons are now only consuming around 1.8MB each, fingers crossed it stays this way!
    I think there will be a kbase article posted about this soon.
    Thanks for your help

  • LR 3.3RC still eats all available ram and swaps during preview

    I didn't see anything about ram issues being fixed in 3.3rc1...  and can confirm I'm still seeing problems.
    If I preview and rate 500 images LR starts swapping, as it ate 16gig of ram.  After that, everytime you preview a couple of more images, it swaps another chunk of ram to disk and allocates more.
    Personally, I think this is a bit excessive...
    Any word on when this will be fixed?
    Cheers!
    Mac, 64bit, 16gig ram, dual quad core processors

    It is a known and unfortunate limitation of how our current lens profile installation/uninstallation works. The workaround is to reinstall LR 3.2.

  • PSE 9 Organizer Error Adding Keyword Tags and Other Woes

    Hello, everyone.  I am having a ton of problems with PSE 9 Organizer.  The most frustrating and biggest problem is that I believe my catalog has been corrupted beyond repair.  I spent all of yesterday tagging my photos.  I had no problems and everything seemed to be going well until all of the sudden, the organizer suddenly froze up.  I had to use the Windows task manager just to get it to close.  This happened several times.  Finally, the organizer locked up my computer and I had to restart.  I opened the catalog and didn't seem to have any problems at that point.  I was able to view all of the images, video files etc.  I was even able to open the editor from the organizer.  When I tried to add a tag to a photo it gave me an error.  All it said was "error adding keyword tag" then nothing.  I tried to delete the photo and all it said was "error deleting photo".  This "error" shows up any time I try to make any changes to all of the images.  I can't add any new photos, can't delete, or add tags.  I have repaired the catalog several times.  It found errors the first time, but evidently that didn't fix my problem.  I also optimized and deleted my thumbnail cache to see if that was the issue.  Still nothing.  I have other catalogs and they work fine, so it is something to do with this particular catalog.  Any suggestions on what to do next?  Can I move the pictures to a new catalog without losing the tags?  And no, I didn't write the tags to the images because I wasn't done tagging.  Besides, PSE doesn't always write the tags correctly, as you probably know. Next problem.   When I first open PSE and select the organizer, it doesn't alway open.  I can see it on my taskbar (Windows 7 64 bit), but I can't get the window to maximize.  I have to close and open several times to get the window to open.  Sometimes it randomly jumps to my second monitor like it can't decide where to go.  Very frustrating.  I would appreciate any suggestions about what to do.  Thanks.

    Back to the original question, after thinking about this for a couple days I have had two ideas for workarounds:
    1)  Copy my tag names into the photo metadata and create a new catalog to bring all of my images into.  This will allow me to keep all of my existing tags, and it MIGHT solve the tag display problem based on a test with a couple images in a new catalog.  The downsides to this are a) permanently writes my tags into the photo metadata which will be bad if I decide to change something later, b) loses all version sets, and c) loses all albums (although I don't have that many).  I found instructions for this workaround at http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Merging_Catalogs.
    2)  Live with the lack of color tag display in Organizer, and use reverse searches to find missing tag categories.  For example, if I want to find all photos that do not have a "Places" tag, I check the box next to the "Places" category (which also selects all sub-categories and tags below this).  Then I go to the Options drop-down in the Find Bar and "Hide best match results" and "Show results that do not match".  This gives me every image in my catalog that does not have a tag from the "Places" category, so I can go through and tag these as appropriate.
    I would have gone with #1 if it weren't for the permanence of the keywords.  I guess I have a commitment problem (or I just haven't got my tag hierarchy figured out yet).  Instead, I am going with #2 which should give me most of what I need for now.  I will still hold out some small glimmer of hope that Adobe manages a fix for this issue down the road.

  • InstallerS Problem - Consuming All my RAM

    Hello
    I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I downloaded something the other day (I have since cleared all cookies and history so I don't remember were it was from) and tried to install it on my MAC. I'm not sure what happened to the install. I was being distracted by a few christmas activities at the time and wasn't paying a lot of attention to my computer. I though that install had completed as there was nothing happening on my computer when a got back to it.
    Anyways...The problem is when I start up my MacBook Pro- OS X 10.6.8 - 4GB RAM it starts fine but then once up and running the computer slows down to almost freezing up. I did as much as I could with what I know with respect to erasing all histories/cookies from all web browsers, but it's not that. I was able to get to the Activity Monitor in my Utilities folder and found out that an 'InstallerS' was increasingly using up my RAM until all my available RAM was occupied. When I forced quite the Installer S, my Mac returns to normal. The other symptom is when I shut down my computer about 50% of the time a small window come up and asks me if I'd like to abort the install. This is sometimes after a long period of computer use and long after I have 'forced quit' the InstallerS.
    I have looked in my 'Startup Folder' and there there is nothing there.
    I have searched in my 'SpotLight' for InstallerS and have found nothing.
    I have erased all cookies and history from all web browsers.
    Please find attached an image of my activity monitor just as my RAM is being more and more consumed.
    The first time I was able to get to my activity monitor I had 5 MB of RAM available. Only the InstallerS, Finder and Activity Monitor were running.
    I would love to know how to ride my computer of this InstallerS issue once and for all.
    Best regards,
    B

    REPEATING MY ANSWER FROM ABOVE
    THIS WORKED....AND NO PROBLEMS FOR 2 MONTHS.
    I used the suggestion above (Kurt Lang).
         Open Activity Monitor
         Find "InstallerS" and double-click it
         Click on "open files and ports"
         This provides a list of files associated with "InstallerS"
    This is where I first found the Geneio connection that Kurt Lang mentioned in his 2nd post.
    I then went to "Finder" and typed "genieo" in the search box.
    I think there were 5 or 6 files that came up with "genieo" in them.
    I then right-clicked on each and moved them to trash.
    I was afraid to just delete in case they were linked to other necessary files.
    After deleting them, I restarted computer, and "InstallerS" never came back (2 weeks now).
    After I few days, I emptied the trash.

  • PXI-SCXI in Linux running LV 8.0.1 consuming all available memory

    Hi, we have the following environment here:
    Software
    - Mandriva 2006 PowerPack
    - LabView 8.0 with update 8.0.1 for Linux
    - DAQmx 8.0
    - DAQmx base 2.0
    Hardware
    CHASSIS  PXI-1011: PXI-8176, 512Mb RAM, 6052e, SCXI-1129 (we are using 7 of them), BORNES SCXI 1129: 1335,  matrix topology 8x32
     LV program
    Two analogic acquisition tasks created and cleared in a non-simultaneous way (one for rotation measurements, and the other for vibration measurements), and a switching task, in a total of 54 sensors.
    Here goes the history:
    After struggling (togheter with some NI folks) to configure this environment in Linux, now we have a different problem: In a matter of days our application eats all the available memory (swap and RAM) and freezes the PXI-SCXI.
    We have already checked:
    - (phisical) memories
    - all start-clear/stop threads (including different combinations of stop AND clear and only clear)
    - isolated our algorithm;
    - isolated all local variables and arrays (no global variables);
    - isolated all database related code.
    In the end, after having only the acquisition tasks running, the LV process still eating aproximatelly 1Mb of RAM per minute, if we use a 1minute window for complete switch-loop and acquisition-loop.
    We would like to know if there is some known workaround or upgrade that we are supposed to do to solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance for all contributions,

    Hi Ratem,
    Memory leaks is a little difficult to debug. I can see you have already done some procedures to isolate the problem. The tests indicate that the acquisition code is consuming the memory. It is possible if you are leaving some tasks open (in memory). All tasks opened must be closed to deallocate the reserved memory.
    There are others possibilities to the memory problem. The linux itself can be the problem. Are you sure the memory leaks are only observed when the LV program runs? If it's the case, I will suggest you to do a simple vi, a while loop with a timing function. Does this simple program show the same behavior?

  • [iPhone] - Memory Warnings, available RAM and development

    Hello-
    I keep receiving memory warnings, and occasional 101 exits from my iPhone app. According to Instruments, the RAM usage never goes above about 13MB. From what I have seen this should be well below the RAM available to apps, which I have read should be around 20-30 MB. We usually only see this after the phone has been on for a long time, with repeated builds and test sessions.
    The question is, if we alloc memory during a testing phase, and then exit the app in a non-standard way (Xcode stop button), could we be leaving memory allocated, taking away the available RAM for the next build? Also, when does applicationDidReceiveMemoryWarning get called? When a certain percentage is left, a certain byte count?

    Memory warnings are triggered when the OS is low on available memory - it might have nothing to do with your app. Something else happening on the device - an incoming text message, phone call, notification of some kind etc. all can cause memory warnings. With that said, you have to free up unused memory or you run the risk of your app being force quit by the OS.
    There's some things you can do to help reduce your memory overhead. Only cache items you need cached, alloc and release objects as you use them rather than adding them to the autorelease pool. Auto released objects use memory until the pool is cleaned. For example creating an autoreleased NSString with
    NSString* a = [NSString stringWithString:@"a"];
    will get added to the autorelease pool and freed eventually. Instead, create it, use it and release it straight away.
    NSString* a = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"a"];
    // do something
    [a release];
    This way the memory is only allocated for the time it is in use. If you're going to use auto release pools, create them and drain them close together. I keep an autorelease pool around even though I am allocing and releasing most of my objects and then I drain the pool on a memory warning which frees up some memory.
    I hope this helps, I seem to remember that the SQLite books sample code had some examples on inflating objects on demand and deflating them on receipt of a memory warning. Good luck.

  • UML295 consuming all available hard drive space

    Hello,
    I have encountered a problem with multiple people on multiple computers. I am presuming these are some kind of cache files for the enhanced interface, but the device will consume all hard drive space available within %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Verizon
    I am attempting to do a sitdown with the user, but I suspect it will be all things normal. I am wondering if anyone has seen this or knows anything. We do use Cisco AnyConnect, but so far, I haven't seen anything documented for behavior compared to the UML290 which required us changing the way the device identified itself to the operating system.

  • Get all available BAPIs and BusinessObjects via RFC

    Hi!
    I need 2 things:
    1)
    A remoteable function which gives me a list of all available BAPIs or remoteable functions.
    2)
    A remoteable function which gives me a list of all available BusinessObjects in SAP.
    Thanks,

    Hello Konrad,
    Guess I can help you with your first doubt.  You can create remote Z funcion which calls a standard BAPI, as follows:
    CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_MONITOR_GETLIST'
    EXPORTING
       OBJECTTYPE              = p_ojtpe
       SHOW_RELEASE            = p_rel
       BAPIS_POTENTIAL         = p_poten
       BAPIS_NEW               = p_new_pabi
       BAPIS_OLD               = p_old_bapi
       RELEASED_BAPI           = p_rel_bapi
       RELEASED_FUNC           = p_released_func
    IMPORTING
       RETURN                  = d_ret
    TABLES
       COMPONENTS2SELECT       = int_cs
       SYSTEMS2SELECT          = int_sss
       BAPILIST                = int_bapilist
    For the remote functions, you can query on table TFDIR to get them.

  • ITunes eats all my RAM then crashes!

    I don't know if it's a recent update or something, but recently iTunes, if left running unattended for a few hours, will eat up all my RAM (I have 12GB), causing over 11 million pageouts before becoming unresponsive. As soon as I force quit my memory is released, but I keep coming back to my Mac and finding that this has happened!
    I've got lots of RAM and HD space free so I know it's not that - any ideas what I can do?

  • Brbackup/backint consumes all my RAM on Linux

    I am investigating the disappearnce of RAM in my Linux hosted SAP ECC6 Development System on SLES10 and Oracle 10.2.0.4. The box is hosted on a VM but as this problem only happens when the backup is ssheduled I have ruled out VM as the cause for the time being.
    The box has 24GB or RAM allocated.
    After starting Oracle just over 1GB is used.
    After starting R3 just over 2.5GB is used.
    During the normal operations the used increases to 7GB leaving 17GB Free.
    Brbackup starts at 09:00 and with no other large processes running suddenly Free RAM drops off to 112MB. When the backup completes the free RAM remains at 118MB. Why do I think that the backup may be the cause? Because I restarted the server just over a week ago, and got the same dropoff or RAM at the same time on the same day. (being a DEV system I only do a full backup  a couple of days a week).
    If you have any ideas of how to fix this issue please respond.

    Hello Mark,
    in order to avoid that all the available physical RAM is consumed on your system by the file system cache during backups I would recommend to check if it is possible to configure your backup software to use DirectIO. With DirectIO enabled all data written by the backup software would go directly to the storage without being cached in the file system cache by the OS first thus avoiding that the RAM gets filed by the file system cache during backups.

  • After applying KB2975719 Windows Explorer takes all available RAM until BSOD

    OS Windows 8.1x64 Pro.
    After applying the latest cumulative update for Windows 8.1 I noticed APC_Index_Mismatch BSOD. I investigated further and found that Windows Explorer was using more and more of my RAM until there was insufficient to process system tasks and the machine crashed.
    Removing the update fixed and I reapplied and confirmed the issue was back so its 100% to do with the update.
    Further investigation showed that if I had a folder with MP4 files and I was using details view this could happen. It doesnt seem to be all MP4 files but certain ones cause the effect of ever increasing RAM usage every time I do a view refresh (or sort by
    date etc) unless I restarted the process. RAM didn't decrease at all which suggests memory leakage. Any other view in Explorer eg list, tile etc and the issue is not present. Other file extensions seem fine.
    Sadly I've been unable to verify on my office machine (Win8.1 Enterprise) which could have enabled me to raise a support case but thats a lot different from the setup of my home box & I can't replicate that in the office.
    Can anyone confirm/offer any other suggestions for details view?
