PSE 13 responds slowly

Recently downloaded PSE 13. With even the most simple of tasks, I have the little circle that goes round and round showing it is "thinking". Is this normal? Should I uninstall and reinstall? Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

  • MacBook Pro responding slowly, beachball, Console errors

    Hi everyone.
My friend has asked me to look at his MacBook Pro; he's been having troubles with various applications and the machine responding slowly in general.
    Machine's specs:
    15" MacBook Pro (Model 4,1); 2.4 GHz Core2Duo, 4 GB RAM, OS X 10.6.3
    Symptoms:
According to him, the "sbbod" would show up when opening many applications--didn't seem to matter which ones. I haven't been able to replicate the behavior in his user account or in the new one we created for me to use for testing.
What I have noticed are errors like this in Console (this is just a small sample; the same messages are created for nearly all applications opened):
    5/14/10 12:46:21 AM smcFanControl[430] Incompatible applications: app=com.eidac.smcFanControl2, targetApp=com.apple.Safari
    5/14/10 12:47:01 AM firefox-bin[442] Incompatible applications: app=org.mozilla.firefox, targetApp=com.apple.Safari
    5/14/10 12:47:01 AM [0x0-0x3f03f].org.mozilla.firefox 2010-05-14 00:47:01.885 firefox-bin[442:903] Incompatible applications: app=org.mozilla.firefox, targetApp=com.apple.Safari
    5/14/10 12:50:49 AM Adobe Reader[456] Incompatible applications: app=com.adobe.Reader, targetApp=com.apple.Safari
The applications seem to function normally, but there is a delay in opening them. I don't understand the error message, so if anyone has insight, I'd love to hear it!
    Troubleshooting steps taken:
    1) Tried second user account to see if Console messages appear--they do.
    2) Used Disk Utility to verify hard drive--all OK, no repairs needed
    3) Applied the 10.6.3 v 1.1 COMBO update--no change
    4) Reinstalled Safari, since each message mentions Safari--no change.
    5) Verified hard drive has plenty of free space (294 GB free of about 500 GB)
    6) Verified amount of free RAM--1~2 GB free at all times
    7) Used Smart Utility to check integrity of drive--all OK.
I'm honestly stumped by this one and will be grateful for any advice!

Gonna pass the "solved" star to you, since the suggestion you made is essentially what the gentleman said at the Apple store.
What we ended up doing, since something had gone terribly wrong with the Applications folder, and the system in general, is what he called a "manual merge," which involved the following:
*Copying the entire home folder to an external drive formatted HFS+
*Erasing the internal drive, then installing Snow Leopard.
*Creating a "test" user account with a different name than the original home folder
    *Installing available updates to SL
*Changing permissions on the Users folder for the admin group. Permissions were changed from "read only" to "read & write"
*Dragging the original home folder into the Users folder.
*Once the original folder had finished copying, entered System Preferences and created a new user account using the short name from the original as the new account's name.
*System Preferences requested to use the home folder that already existed, which is what was desired.
*Changed permissions on the Users folder for the admin group back to "read only."
    *Re-installed desired 3rd-party apps.
The entire thing was kind of a hassle due to slowish FW transfer speeds (took about 3 hours for the 180 GBs of data to transfer off the hard drive to the external, but only 1.5 hours to transfer back after the reinstall) and a few copying errors.
End result: Performance greatly improved, applications no longer jamming, and no data lost. My friend is quite happy.
Thanks again for the input--it helped me get on the right track!

  • Help! Final cut responds slowly - floating clips etc.

    Hi,
My final cut pro often responds slowly. While scrubbing or dragging clips they don't respond directly to my mouse movements but float somewhere behind... It makes editing very frustrating. I use an external hard drive (Lacie) with a firewire cable, so I don't think that's the problem. I believe my system is slow somehow, but I don't know how to improve that. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanx

Assuming you have the stock 120GB hard drive in that 'Book, you have around 80 GB of stuff on it.
That's getting pretty close to the 20% free space often recommended around here.
The free space is needed so that the Mac OS has space to write scratch files and virtual memory.
Do you really need all of that data, or have you downloaded a ton of shareware apps that get used once and never again? Get rid of it or burn it onto DVDs.
One way to speed things up: download and install a free copy of "Applejack". It runs in Single User mode before the Mac OS starts, it will perform some maintenance tasks and clear out cache files.
Read the instructions carefully. When you have run it once, the next time is easy.
I recently installed Applejack for a friend on a two year old iMac. We recovered 8GB of space.
Get rid of languages that you do not speak with "Monolingual", also free and easy to use. A standard installation of Mac OS X can be trimmed by a further 2-3GB. Note that this only removes the language kits that display text in the interface and menus - not your ability to read or write documents in a different language.
Both Applejack and Monolingual can be found on versiontracker.com.
Something else you can do to save space: moving your LiveType, Motion and Soundtrack libraries to the external drive will regain another 25GB or so on the internal hard drive. Of course, this also means that you have to take the external drive with you if editing on the road is an issue.

  • Why is mail program responding slowly

Why is mail responding so slowly?

Quit Mail if it's running. Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    sqlite3 L*/C*/*.mail/*/L*/*/*/*.db vacuum
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
You should see a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) appear below what you entered. If not, press return. You can then quit Terminal and relaunch Mail. Test.
Note: This procedure will have no effect unless you quit Mail when you begin.

  • IPhone 3GS touch screen responds slowly or not at all since upgrade to 4.3.3

Ever since my iPhone 3GS upgraded to OS 4.3.3, it behaves strangely.
The following happens from time to time, not all the time, but often enough to be annoying.
Reaction time of screen touches is slow or, worse even, when I touch an app (any app), it dims and then nothing happens, until I tap the screen on various spots, then the app where I pressed the last time opens up.
When typing a message or email, characters duplicate (not all the time).
When I want to delete ONE character, the whole text is deleted, slowly, one character at the time, and I can’t interrupt it.
When I want to scroll through screens, nothing happens….until suddenly multiple screens scroll by.
When I scroll down, like in Twitter, from time to time nothing happens or suddenly a tweet highlights all by itself (!!); when I try to continue scrolling down, that highlighted tweet opens.
When I close an app, it closes but the screen is not responsive (like above in #1).
I took off the screen protector.
I shut down and restarted several times.
    I rebooted several times.
I restored the iPhone several times.
To no avail…..the same annoying and unpredictable problems pop up.
My mobile phone company (Orange) has no clue, though they suggest to “send it to Apple” which may take 6-12 weeks (!!!!).
The Apple importer in Israel (iDigital) has no clue and is not helpful at all: they claim they don’t handle iPhones.
Last, but not least: Apple doesn’t give any iPhone support either, not online, not by phone, nothing…..
    Anybody can help?

No replies.....nothing from Apple, of course.
    Update:
    1. Orange had the phone for 2 days....and did nothing.....got it back in the same state.....claimed that there was "nothing wrong"
    2. Meanwhile the iPhone was responding slower and stranger, opening apps by itself, disconnecting phone calls without touching the phone, freezing, impossible to scroll down (only up), impossible to answer phone calls because the screen wouldn't react......getting madder and madder
    3. So with no "repairs", help or advice I did the whole rebooting and restoring bits again.... with ONE difference.... I restored first as a new phone and then again a second restore using my backup..... it took me almost 1 full hour........ BUT IT WORKED...... and I'm using the iPhone now as if it were brandnew..... the only setback is that you have to rearrange your apps from scratch, login your FB, Linkedin, Twitter, etc. anew, reload your pics and music, and in fact redo ALL your settings.... cost me 2 hours.
    BUT COULDN'T ANYBODY TELL ME?

  • Newly bought Xperia C3, responding slowly for a quad core processor phone.

My Xperia C3 is just a week old sincebI bought it and my very 1st Sony phone. Doing simple task is so annoying because of phones slow response to command wether doing browsing to text messaging, i would have to wait for the right screen to come up, or even from stadby mode to making a call, or txt, it responds so slow.. Totally different from other brand of quad core processor I've tried. My phone memory or sd card memory is is not even 1/4 full. Why is this behaving like this?
Could someone Sony-brilliant user or support personnel help me on this please. Kindly help me make my Sony experience a better one.

My Samsung Galaxy S1, which is still fully functional up to now, does not even have a quad core processor, but its not slow like this C3. Same with Lumia 520 & 630.. So I don't know why would a new phone behave like this... Really annoying

  • I have 2 caps lock notifications and they respond slowly

    Hi,
I have now got 2 caps lock notification boxes in the bottom right hand corner. This I suppose I can deal with it's the fact that most of the time when I have pressed the caps lock they show up sometimes 1 or 2 and then the keyboard is slow to respond i.e. I cannot type for a couple of seconds and as I type quite fast I am finding that half my stuff is missing!
I had installed a new caps lock notification box recently from a fellow forum user as the original blue one had disappeared and I needed to have one because of passwords being case sensitive etc. After the 2nd one was installed the old one came back and now there is the 2 of them.
It could be the point there is 2 boxes making it react slower. If so how do I get rid of one? or is it something else making the repsonse to the caps lock slow?
Can anyone help me solve this? I have the HP Touchsmart Windows 7 with a wifi keyboard and mouse
    Thanks everyone!!

    Hello victoriacrps,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that after a fix to put the Cap Locks Indicator back on your system you now have 2 of them showing and are getting a lag when you switch back and forth. I would suggest that you follow the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) and restore your computer back to a point in time when you had a single working Cap Lock Indicator. This will not affect your personal files only applications that have been installed after the date you choose or settings that have been adjusted after the date you choose.
Please re-post if you still require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Garage band drums respond slowly during recording

While I'm using musical typing in garage band the drums will respond fine, but as soon as I hit record, the drum response time will stick, so I'm quite often dropping beats. This never happens when record isn't engaged.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I'm very new to GB and am just recording voice messages to email to friends with my imac's built in mic. I am plagued with the popping in the recordings. It's not related to my voice, is just a consistent pop through the recording. The metronome is turned off. I'm using ilife 08. Any thoughts?

  • 4 gen touch screen not responsive/responds slowly, not functional.

I have a 4th Gen iPod touch that I have owned for just over 2 weeks and three different times now the screen has gone unresponsive.  The first two times I restored it (had to restore it twice each time) and it has fixed it.  Now I have tryed to restore it 3 times and it is still not working.  Any suggestions??
When I say unresponsive, it kind of responds but it is very delayed, and I cant scroll through the screens.
    Any help is much appreciated.

If you restored it to factory defaults/new iPod and are still having the problrm then it is likely a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If not try that restore.

  • PSE 10 running slowly on Win7 machine

I have a PSE 10 catalog with about 31,000 images indexed. It's running on a Win 7 64-bit machine with a Core i7 2.67GHz CPU, 6GB RAM, and a 128GB SSD for applications and a conventional 1TB HDD for files. It has a Wiundows Experience Index of 6.6, so it's adequate, if not a screamer. I recently reinstalled the OS and all applications, restoring my PSE file from a backup.
Before the re-install and now, the program runs like a dog and occasionally crashes altogether. From the time I start the application until I have a working cursor (as opposed to the animated "I'm thinking about it" circle) is a minimum of 45 seconds, and moving between one image or keyword group and another also takes between 10-30 seconds. This gets to be pretty frustrating when I'm trying to find a particular image or add images.
Is the lag a result of having so many images indexed in one catalog? If I was to break the catalog up into smaller catalogs, how would I export the images from the master catalog and keep the indexing/keyword information I've created? If it's not caused by having a large catalog, then what is the best way to speed up the program?

What Jeff said. Ask usage questions in the product forums and when you do, provide a more exact description of what's going on and your system specs.

  • I have ipod touch 4th generatiion but it responds slowly and te battery drains quickly although iboight it 2months ago , wt cn ido ?

The ipod tesponds slowly and it freezes for a short periods and the battery drains quickly and i bought it 2months ago

Try to set it up as new device:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If this does not help, try again, this time without using the latest backup.
If you are using push/fetch for your mail, deleting the account and setting it up again after a restart could also solve your problem.

  • Pages 5.1 (1769) is responding slowly.

Hi there, I've done all the relevent updates. When I'm typing in Pages the text only shows a few seconds later and puts up one letter then a pause then the next letter.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

One it is slow, and two have you checked how much spare space there is on your hard drive?
OSX likes a minimum of 10-15% free to write its temporary files.
Other slow downs are working to iCloud and having Time Machine turned on.

  • SQL Developer responding slowly

    Hi,
I am connecting to Oracle DB from SQL Developer using remote connection through LDAP. I work with sql server management studio regularly but through sql developer this is my first time.
I find SQl developer slow compared to sql server management studio- IS this true or is it because of the remote connection.?
What steps can I take to improve its speed . Are there any tools or settings that I need to change?
I have a simple insert query into a temporary table which ran for 5 hours. The application does not stop executing after that and I need to end it from task manager. I think this is to do with the buffer size, so I need to commit data in batches to process it more speedily. Are there any settings to do to run data in batches?
Thanks for your time and help

Based on the code you posted in a later reply this does NOT appear to be a sql developer issues at all and should be posted in the SQL and PL/SQL forum.
    PL/SQL
Before you post there please read the thread 'How to post a tuning request' located at
HOW TO: Post a SQL statement tuning request - template posting
That thread discusses the information that you need to provide in order for volunteers to be able to make meaningful suggestions. That information includes
    1. the DDL for the tables and indexes involved
    2. the row counts for the tables
    3. the row counts for the query predicates
    4. the execution plan for the query
    5. the expected row count of the result set
Based of this code that you posted
    INSERT INTO Temp
    SELECT
    VisitNo,
    EmployeeNo,
(SELECT EmployeeNo FROM Employee e WHERE e.CaseNo = clin.CaseNo) emp,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY VisitNo, CaseNo) rnum
    FROM
    ClinicVisit clin
    ORDER BY
    VisitNo,
CaseNo;the query will simply be sent by sql developer to Oracle for processing. Sql developer will play no further role until the query is actually completed. So based on this example code there is no basis at all for saying:
    1. sql developer is slow
    2. the application does not stop executing - please clarify what you mean by 'application' and by 'does not stop'
    3. I think this is to do with the buffer size
    4. I need to commit data in batches to process it more speedily
    5. the remote connection is in any way involved
The code (insert into temp) suggests that you are using the typical sql server practice of populating a temporary table whose data will then, typically, be used for further processing and population of the target table.
In Oracle you rarely need to use temporary tables and when you do use them you use them differently than the way they are used in sql server.
The SQL and PL/SQL forum is the place to gets answers about tuning queries but you will get better help if you provide additional information about what you are really trying to do.

  • Mouse responding slowly in a cool room?

I recently did a warehouse party using my Macbookpro 15 to run Traktor Scratch Pro 2 DJ software.
It was NOT extremely cold (maybe 10c). When I set up and was playing my MBP ran fine but my mouse was extremely slow and unresponsive. What could it be?
Is it the combination of the cool ambient temperature and my hand temperature?
When I got home and booted up it functioned perfectly and has ever since.
I'm playing again at the same venue this Saturday and do not want a repeat of this incident.
Any comments / ideas / remedies?
    thanks in advance
