PSE 2/PSA 2 conversion to PSE 5 on new PC

I Just purchased and installed a new PC running MS Windows XP Media Edition. I am in the process of converting applications and data/picture files from my old MS Windows XP Home Edition to the new PC. Both Windows XP operating systems are up to date.
The old PC has PSE 2.0 and PSA 2.0.1 which manages just under 2,000 cataloged and tagged photos. I have not installed PSE or PSA on the new machine. Both PCs have a single hard drive c:.
I just purchased PSE 5, but have not installed it on either PC. What would be the best way to convert and copy My_Catalog with all the photos to PSE 5 on my new PC?
a) On old PC, Backup My_Catalog to CDs (or flash drive) with PSA 2;
Install PSE 5 on the new PC and restore to c: on new PC
b) Install PSE 5 on old PC and convert My_Catalog to new Organizer
(however that might be done);
Backup catalog and photos on old PC with PSE 5 to CDs (or flash drive)
Install PSE 5 on new PC and restore My_Catalog
c) Some other method?
I searched your Tips, Tools, How-to, and Techniques forum and did not find anything too definitive. I would sincerely appreciate guidance on this conversion before I start.

As no one has posted to this entry, I am thinking about doing the following to convert to PSE 5 and moving to a new PC.
On my old PC:
1. With PSA Ver 2, File/Reconnect_All_Missing_Files
2. With PSA Ver 2, File/Catalog/Recover
3. With PSA Ver 2, File/Backup the catalog and burn CDs
4. Install PSE Ver 5. Hopefully, this will convert the PSA 2 catalog to PSE 5 format.
5. With PSE Ver 5, Backup the catalog to CDs
On my new PC:
6. Install PSE Ver 5
7. With PSE 5, Restore the PSE 5 backup CDs

  • Problem With PSE-2 and New 1.5 TB Drive

Hi all. First of all, I've been using my registered PSE-2 for several years with no problem. AMD Athalon 7750 dual core at 2.7 Ghz, 2.0 G Memory. WD 1.5 TB primary and WD 500 GB secondary drive.Win XP SP3. I recently had a drive fail and installed a new freshly formatted WD 1.5 TB as my boot drive. Fresh install of WinXP and updates. Now when I install Elements, it appears to install fine. The problem comes when I attempt to start it the first time I get "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the scratch discs are full". Then Elements closes, thus not allowing me to do anything with the internal configuration of the program. I have tried unistalling and installing to the 500 GB drive, but still get the same error. I have increased my page file memory Does anyone know of a problem with installing Elements on a large drive or can anyone offer a possible solution to what I am seeing? Thanks in advance for suggestions...
    JohnR.

I think Barbara meant photoshop 7, which was out a little before pse2.
If you hold down the Alt+Ctrl keys just after you start pse2, a dialog
should appear allowing you to choose the scratch disk (keep holding
the keys until the dialog appears)
If you have a recovery partition on your hard drive, try choosing this for
the scratch disk and then exit pse2. Then restart pse2 and from
Preferences>Plug-ins and Scratch Disks choose your regular hard drive for the scratch disk.
Newer versions of pse, at least newer than 3 or 4 don't seem to have this problem.

  • How do I download a previously purchased PSE to a new PC?

How do I download a previously purchased PSE to a new PC?

You must install it from your original installation media. You can't move an installed copy of PSE--it's too complicated of a program, with bits and bobs all over your hard drive. If you bought PSE as a download and it's a version less than three years old, you can go to the main page of adobe.com and look for My Adobe and there may a be a download link your store account.

  • How to move entire catalog and collection from old PC with PSE 4 to new PC with PSE 9

I have read various answers regarding upgrading to new PC's using newer versions of PSE
. All solutions seem to differ slightly. Can anyone give me a good path to follow for upgrading from PSE 4 on old windows XP PC to PSE 9 on a new Win 7 PC
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    I did it like this:
copy all your photos from your old PC to exactly the same folder in your new PC.
Install the trial version of PSE9 to your new PC. Copy the old catalog from your old PC to your new PC. In the new PC choose File/Catalog/Convert/Find more catalogs, locate the folder where you copied the catalog, choose Convert. And there it is! Everythingworks beautifully!
Of course I'm not 100 % sure was it exactly like this what I did just half an hour ago. But I had exactly the same problem as you: PSE4+old PC --> New PSE + new PC (I wanted to have all the old tags to be in use also in the new PC and new version of PSE9).
Some more advice: to locate the catalog in your old PC: start PSE4, choose File/Catalog/New and you'll see on the screen the folder where old catalog is located (in my PC it was: c:\Documents and Settings\All  Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalogs - file named "My catalog.psa").
    Good luck,

  • Installing PSE 9 on new iMac with no CD Drive.

I bought a new iMac and cannot figure out how to install a new copy of Elements 9. I have a disc that I previously used to install on my Macbook, but now I do not have a Cd drive on my new computer. Tried to transfer the software using an external hard drive but it did not work. Any help?

    First of all this:
Tried to transfer the software using an external hard drive but it did not work
Did you try to migrate an installed version of PSE? If so, you have your work cut out for you before you can install it.
As for the disc, if you have access to another computer, even a windows computer, you can copy the files from the disc to something like a thumb drive and use that. If you're near an Apple Store they will sometimes let you make the copy there.

  • PSE 6 on old XP computer, PSE 9 on new WIn 7 - where are the pictures?

I am lost.  I had 9000+ pictures on the old computer outboard drive; and others copied onto the new computer (Win XPSP3.)  I am now am on the new computer (WIN7).  I just opened PSE 9 for the first time.  The guide which came with the PSE disc discussed "Catalogues" which I don't see anywhere.  In fact, there's no file>catalogue choice that I can see in Organizer.  The guide instructs how to convert a catalogue.  It makes little sense to me.
I believe I must re-associate all my old pictures into PSE 9 but am lost in space...
Sometime ago I had (thought I) had organized my many pictures into folders on the outboard hard drive which now appear, in many cases, empty...???
Must I put PSE 9 on the old computer? to get the photos off of it and into PSE 9 on the new computer?
Why won't the files (which DO contain pictures)  I CAN see, open in organizer in the new computer?
Thanks for any info.  I am feeling really stupid.

The file paths will be different in the catalog e.g. documents & settings under XP which is not part of W7.
It’s best to use back-up and restore letting elements work out the appropriate file paths on the new machine.

  • Installing already purchased PSE 12 on new mac?

I have already purchased PSE 12 and have the serial number, but I don't know how to install this on the Mac I received for Christmas. Anyone?

photoshop elements is dual platform so your serial number for windows should work with the mac.  just download the mac installation file and install with your serial number,

  • How to transfer pse 5 to new computer

    Hi,
Sorry if my question is very basic, but I honestly don't have much of a clue about how to do this properly.
I have PSE 5 and just went from one computer (XP) to Windows 7.  I put all my files on an external hard drive and the PSE is in a folder on that drive.
I don't know where to go from there-which file do I install or can I just transfer the whole file over to my desktop?  Will that work?
Do I need to download the patch for PSE 5 to have it work in Windows 7?
Thank you so much for helping!

That is what I did..copied the folder.  I bought the
program as a download on the Adobe site and don't have a CD for it-I do have my serial number.  Since I live overseas I could only
order it online at the time.
So do I just launch the installer that is in the folder?  What happens to all the other files?
I really apologize for my lack of knowledge in this-this whole transferring to a new computer is beyond my understanding right now.
    Thanks!

  • How to transfer files from pse 9 to pse 13 on new iMac

How do I get my catalogues from PSE 9 on a older iMac transferred to a newer iMac with PSE 13?

  • Installed PSE 13 on new computer with PSE 11

I used Laplink PC Mover to move contents of my old computer to a new computer. That included PSE 11. When I tried to open PSE 11, it didn't open. Decided to "upgrade" to PSE 13. I bought and downloaded and installed PSE 13. Organizer in PSE 13 opens, but shows no photos, albums, people, tags, etc. All the pictures transferred. I can find them using explorer. They don't show up in Organizer, and I don't want to lose the tags, captions, etc.
    It ought to be easier.
    Thanks for your help.
After getting PSE 13 to work, should I or can I remove PSE 11?
Tried chatting with Adobe, but was receiving "we are still assisting other customers, thank you for your patience" for over an hour. Gave up.

    Bobh123us a écrit:
Neither Laplink nor Adobe make this clear when moving to a new computer. It should be easier.
There is practically one post every day about the migration process of the catalogs in this forum.
On the other hand, there is a link on the welcome page of the present Elements forum.
    But...
It is not mentionned in the faq page. (If Adobe employees browse this discussion...)
The real problem is that it's not a question people ask when learning the program and reading help files and tutorials. Only when they need to migrate.
So what happens when it's time to migrate?
    - those with scarce knowledge about computers will ask in this forum or search for solutions on the Web.
    - those who are at ease with computers will think they know... and fall into the trap that restoring on a different drive will not work and create disconnected files.
    What do you think?

  • Migrating PSE 9 to new pc

Currently I have PSE 9 on XP with SP3.
I bought a new pc with Windows 7.
What will I need to do to migrate my PSE 9 to the new machine?
    1. Copy the media to new pc.
    2. Copy the PSE9 catalog to new pc.
    3. Install PSE9 on the new pc.
    4. ???
I'm not sure if those are all the steps.
And if they are, how do I go about connecting the new PSE9 to my catalog and media?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Migrating PSE 8 to new computer

I purchased a new computer the other day. It does not have a CD drive. I want to install my copy of PSE 8 from my old computer. Any ideas?

See if someone you know can either lend you an external disc drive or will let you copy the disc to a usb drive. If your new computer is a mac, the apple store will often let you do this there.

  • How do I Transfer PSE to a new computer?

I have a new computer.  I was using PSE 11.  I have the key.  How do I get it on my new computer?

After installing PSE11 on the new computer it's best to use the backup and restore method to preserve all your keywords, version sets and albums etc. You start in the Organizer on the old PC.
