PSE 4 only opens 4 selected iPhoto pix at a time

I have iPhoto set to use Photoshop Elements 4.0 as my editor. What's strange is that no matter how many photos I select in iPhoto, PSE 4 will only open 3 or 4 of them. It doesn't matter if my PE 4 photo bin is empty or not when I do it.
Previously, my PE 4 had a quirk where the help palette was blank. I did a clean reinstall, and that problem was solved.
In a previous thread, Barbara Brundage recommended that I reset the PE preferences for my new problem. I would like to make sure I do this right, so I am asking for more details about this. Do I go into Users/Library/Preferences and delete the com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist file? The Preferences folder also contains these files:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Paths.saved.20060813
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Settings
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Settings.saved.20060813
Do I do anything to any of these? Any others?
Also, does it seem strange that this happens, even after a reinstall of PE 4? Should I suspect the iPhoto preferences?
Here's a detailed example of my issue:
Looking at the last 13 photos of my iPhoto library in Film Roll view, with the final photo being #13, I selected #s 1,3,4,5,6,9,12,13 and the info showed 8 items selected. I double-clicked on #13. PE 4 opened #s 5,1,6,9 in that order, and was finished. So I went back to iPhoto and selected #s 3,4,12,13, double-clicked on #3. PE 4 opened #s 13,12,4,3 in that order.
I appreciate all advice and suggestions.

I've not had a crash, just that problem with the missing Help Palette after my upgrade to Tiger. When my hubby did the reinstall of PE, he renamed those pref files (.saved) in case I needed them after the new install. He said it was unnecessary to move them to another location, because renaming them would mean they wouldn't be used by the app. unless I wanted to reinstate them later. So apparantly he didn't delete the prefs and paths before reinstalling - he renamed them.
I did as you said and trashed the .plist, the Paths folder, and the ones with .saved. I also found a PE 3.plist that hubby added the .saved to, and I trashed it as well. I don't see a PE 4.0 Preferences folder anywhere. Couldn't find one with Spotlight, either. ?? Inside Preferences/Photoshop Elements 4 Settings there is Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Prefs.psp. Should I trash that, too? I have not emptied the trash yet. Should I? After the trashing I launched iPhoto, selected 10 photos, and again only 4 photos opened in PE 4.
Then I tried a new user. The first time 2 photos opened when the Adobe Updater interrupted. I then tried to open the remaining 8 photos and only the first 4 of them opened. So the different user seemed to make no difference.
My iPhoto library is on an external FW hard drive. [Which is formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled).] All applications are on my mini's internal drive. Could the drive be causing the limit?
What should I try next?
Thanks for all your assistance.

  • I can only open 1 .Ai file at a time from explorer

Okay.  Googling is getting me nowhere and posting this is a last resort.
    computer is running:
    Windows 7 x64 SP1
    Creative Suite 5.5
    Illustrator 5.1
    The problem is:
From within Windows Explorer, I can only open 1 Illustrator file at a time.  To get a different file to open, I either have to drag and drop the second file into the tabs under the menubar, or I need to quit Illustrator and re-open it.  Also,  I can not open additional files from Explorer one-at-a-time if one is already open.
    Quirks:
If I go to File -> Open I can select multiple files from within the Open File dialogue window and they open just fine.  but i can't do it from within windows explorer.  This used to work and now it doesn't and I have no idea why.  Can anyone help me out?
Seriously? 137 views and no replies?  No one has run into this before?

This is a long shot but try going to Preferences/Type and uncheck "Show Font Names in English".
Quit illustrator and restart, does it work now?
The reason I´m suggesting this is that unless I have this box unchecked, some internal function in illustrator crashes after I´ve opened one document and I have to quit & restart if I wan´t to open another one. A rather silly bug and I stumpled upon the solution by accident after cursing illustrator for a couple of months...

  • How do I enable links to only open and not download all the time?

I find in the Firefox browser that when I click on a link to view, listen, or watch the file automatically gets downloaded to my computer. I have gone into the preferences to disable this to view instead of save and this still continues. In other browsers I am able to simply view or listen such as in Safari. How can I disable this from automatically downloading?

Hi eusib43, <br /> Sorry you are having problems.
The redirection blocking feature is really intended to help users that need to use screenreaders and such; rather than being any sort of effective security measure; but some users set that unnecessarily.
    * Try '''Firefox Button (or Tools) → Options → |Advanced| → <u>Accessibility</u> →<br /> [] Warn me when Websites try to redirect or reload the page ''' <br />(Wording and exact menu options may differ somewhat)
    * See [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption#w_accessibility]]'''_accessibility'''
    * Does unsetting that solve your problem ?

  • Changing settings so not to open in Iphoto

    Hello All,
I was wondering if there is a way to change settings on the Imac so that I have the option to be able to see my CANON 400D in finder?
I do not want it to ONLY open in Iphoto.
The iMac does not automatically see my Canon and I am wondering if there is a way to get my pictures onto my desktop without using iPhoto as I have pictures in RAW that I want to open using Photoshop CS5.
I am probably missing something but have not been able to do this
    HELP
    Thanks
    YM71

Canon Cameras don not mount on the desktop - it's a "feature" of the brand.
If you want to get the card showing on the Desktop, then use a USB Card reader.
You can stop iPhoto launching simply in the iPhoto Preferences: General pane: 'Connecting Camer Opens... And select 'No Application' or your preferred application as you choose.
You can use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to move your photos from the camera to a folder somewhere.
You can also import your Raws to iPhoto and send them to Adobe Camera Raw for processing.

  • HT5037 I am trying to open my iPhoto, but it tells me I need to upgrade.  Help?

I can't opne my iPhotos.  It tells me I need to upload using the Library Uploader.  I download as instructed, but it doesn't seem to download.  I can't open my iPhotos.  Help!

Okay- so here's the long story!
    Perhaps this will help.
My computer crashed a few months ago.
    We got a new hard-drive.
I tried to open my iPhoto for the first time and go some message about it being "locked".  I no longer get that message so I don't remember entirely what it said, but I followed to directions to "unlock" it.
Now, when I click 'iPhoto" on my dock, I get this message:
To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple.
then there is a "learn more" button.
When you select that, it takes me here and this is where my discussion started.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5037
I followed the steps to upgrade from previous versions- see my comment above, but I get stuck from 8.1.2 version to what appears to be the next one up from there.
Does this help?  I hate computers and simply want get my photos back from Carbonite before the crash happened.  I'm freaking out because I have 4 years of photos from the birth of my son.  If I can't get iPhoto working, I have no idea how to get my photos restored.
    <sigh>

  • My macbook pro isn't opening up iPhoto automatically when I plug my phone in. It used to automatically open up iPhoto and ask me if I wanted to import photos.

When i plug in my iPhone to my macbook pro iPhoto doesn't open up and ask me if I want to import photos.  This process used to happen automatically.  It's like they are  not talking.  My iPhone does show up in iTunes though.

    Hi ez2bme63,
The application that launches when a device such as your iPhone is connected is controlled in the iPhoto preferences. From the iPhoto menu > Preferences > General > Connecting camera opens: Select iPhoto. See this article for reference -
iPhoto '11: Change what happens when you connect a camera to your computer
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I just backed up my photos by copying my iPhoto Library onto an external drive. Now the Library on my MacBook won't open. I can only open the photos if the external is plugged in. How can I resolve this issue?

I just backed up my photos by copying my iPhoto Library onto an external drive. Now the Library on my MacBook won't open. I can only open the photos if the external is plugged in. How can I resolve this issue?

    Exactly what did you do?
    The correct steps are
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
My guess is that that you have not switched iphoto to use the external drive yet - opttion launch and select libary

Iphoto will not open my iPhoto library......have tried everything.  This has only happened in the last week.
I have tried everthing suggested on the forum.

    Did you follow these directions?
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

On the bottom bar of the window (on the left iPhoto 11, on the right in other versions) note the slider. Drag it left.

  • I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!

I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk - I don't have any room left on my computer. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!  This is seriously frustrating!.
Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?
Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks for your help!

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

  • What does one do when iPhoto version 7.1.5 only opens one event without showing all photos?

What does one do when iPhoto version 7.1.5 only opens one event without showing all photos or any other events?

Depends -what other clues? What recently changed? Do you have a good current backup?  best guess is to Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - and repair the database - if that does not resolve things rebuild your iPhoto library database

If you have iPhoto '09, you cannot browse or restore seleted items from your backups.  See the pink box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
Mail should work, however, per the blue box there.
