PSE 5.0 IPTC Support

I have PSE 4 and with it, the only way to add IPTC information is one photo at a time, in the Editor. Has this changed in PSE 5.0 so that you can add, e.g., copyright info, to multiple files?
I'm considering going to Lightroom for my organizer but would rather not if PSE 5.0 has improved in this area.
Thanks,
Larry

I looked around for batch-entering iptc data and downloaded Irfanview (freeware) since I haven't used it in several years.
I found it does a good job with exif data and entering iptc information on single images and, more important, batched images.
It allows you to enter any or all fields you select to as many images as you wish.
It appears to be terrific for that purpose. Give it a try. I think it'll work for you.

  • Ap 3700 PoE with PSE that does not support CDP/LLDP power Negotiation

We run into a problem when AP 3700 is connected to an 802.3at PSE
that only supports physical event classification as compliant to 802.3at standard for PSE,
but does not support CDP/LLDP power negotiation.
AP 3700 (I believe the firmware version does not matter much) cannot get enough power after not receiving any CDP/LLDP power negotiation packet. (get no more than 15W power although PSE supports 30W.)

    Hi Leo,
Thanks for the information, and do you know if Phihong power injector supports 802.3at LLDP power negotiation or not?
And is there any special configuration on AP3700 side like disabling CDP/LLDP power negotiation to make it to work with such power injector,  and what is the command if there is any?
    Thanks again, Leo.

  • Does PSE 13 on Mac Support NAS/SMB?

Considering moving to PSE 13 and one thing I want is to store all my photo files on a server (ubuntu/samba), but I get the impression that PSE on mac doesn't support this, is this true?

There is a completely new slideshow in PSE 13, which is the same for both platforms. It isn't as customizable as the old slide show editor.

  • Does PSE 12 camera raw support my Fuji X-T1 camera?

I get the following error message when trying to view a camera raw file from my Fuji X-T1 in PSE 12:
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of camera raw." The installed version of camera raw on my PSE 12 is 8.0.
I am, however, able to view my Fuji X-T1 camera raw files in Lightroom CC (ver 5.4). Is that because the current version of Lightroom has an updated version of camera raw, which my PSE does not? Can I get Version 8.4 Camera Raw for PSE 12?

From Expert Mode click the menu:
    Help >> Updates
Install the camera raw 8.4 update

  • PSE 8 does not support Nikon 7000D RAW files?

I just got a Nikon 7000D, and when I tried to open up one of the .NEF (RAW) files in PSE 8, it wasn't supported.  I researched the Camera RAW plug-in, and from what I can tell, PSE 8 is only compatible with Camera RAW up to version 6.2.  It looks like version 6.3 is only useable with PSE 9.
Camera RAW 6.2 does not support files from the Nikon 7000D, or at least the list I saw does not show it, so I did not download 6.2.  Is my only choice for being able to use PSE 9 with my 7000D to spend the money on PSE 9?   -Bill C

You could also download the standalone DNG converter and make DNG files (which you may be able to process in 6.2), or use the Nikon software to convert your files and do any additional editing in PSE.

  • PSE 12 is not supporting camera raw files with my nikon d4s

I am using PSE 12 to edit pictures. I just purchased a Nikon d4s and neither the organizer nor the editor lets me open the raw file. It says the camera raw file is not supported. I just downloaded camera raw update and it still does not work

Which operating system are you using?
Did you try Help>Updates from within the pse 12 editor to get camera raw 8.5, which should then enable both the pse 12 editor and organizer to open those files.

  • IPTC support in iPhoto '08

I haven't yet taken the time to add keywords/tag my photos in iLife '06 because I was hoping the newer versions would include support for IPTC / XMP tagging of the files. Any word on this? Here's hoping.. haven't seen anything on news sites or on Apple's iPhoto "what's new" pages. I was also hoping for integration of the wonderful Keyword Assistant by Ken Ferry (http://homepage.mac.com/kenferry/software.html) but I haven't yet seen how keywords are added. Dragging and dropping is less than ideal.

iPhoto will write the ITPC keyword, title and description metadata to the files when they are exported vie the File->Export->File Export menu option and the option to include Titles and keywords is checked. However, they are not written to the files that are in the library, only those exported.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Supported IPTC Fields in Aperture 3.3

Does anyone know what the current state of IPTC support in Aperture is as of 3.3.
Is there a document anywhere that specifies which fields are / are not supported ?
    Thx

I've never seen this information documented (fwiw ).
You can get a list of IPTC fields in Aperture in a few ways.  Probably the easiest is via "Aperture➞Presets➞Metadata".  That dialog shows five sections of IPTC metadata fields.

  • 16 bit color depth not supported in PSE 7 (only 8bit) ????

I just updated to PSE 7 and when I try to edit a Raw file from my 5D M II a box pops up and stating that PSE provides only limited support for files with 16bit color depth and then asks me to convert the file to 8 bit.
I have updated the plug-in to support the Raw files from the 5D M II and do not have a problem with that, it's just the color depth.
I want to use the files from my camera to the max (16 bit).
Can I fix this???  If so, how????
    Please help.  Thank you.

Try the Photoshop Elements forum.  This is not a color management issue. Few folks here are familiar with Elements.

  • Does PSE 13 support Outlook 2013 64bit?

We are currently using PSE 12 with Win8.1 and Outlook 2013 64bit. Unfortunately PSE 12 does not support 64bit Outlook (can't send pictures via email). So now PSE 13 is available and we're wondering if it will solve our problem - work with Outlook 2013 64bit? Thanks for any info.

    Hi,
Yes, With 64-bit version of PSE13, you can use Outlook 2013 64 bit with PSE13.
    Thanks,

  • Tag to IPTC in PSE 8

I have stored the PSE Tags as IPTC Data in my Files. After that, I deleted a Tag an wrote to IPTC again. But nothinng happens. The deleted Tag is still in IPTC. Seems PSE did not override? What I am doing wrong (sorry for my english).

No, you didn't do anything wrong. That is one of the limitations of using the PSE command. You can use John Ellis's excellent psedbtool:

  • What IPTC fields are supported by LR 1.1 (or 1.2)?

I have previously discovered that Lightroom does not support IPTC properly. Does anyone have a list of supported IPTC fields, so I can know whether my current IPTC data will be safe or not? An answer from Adobe on this issue would have been great.
    Thanks
    H

So it only supports a subset of the full ITPC-NAA IIM? Theoretically that's quite ok, but removing IPTC fields that are not supported is NOT quite ok.
Is Lightroom's IPTC support documented somewhere? I haven't seen anything about it somewhere. At least, when a program is removing data from files that it does not like, it should have been a big warning sign somewhere.

  • PSE 10 - multiple failed installs; I give up

    Adobe staff and forum members,
I really wanted to upgrade to PSE 10 (and in fact, I felt sort of forced to because PSE 8 does not support the RAW files for my new camera) but I ended up getting so frustrated last night that I returned my downloaded copy of PSE 10 and PRE 10 (the combo pack).  I got PSE 10 to run for a day or two, then it began crashing immediately upon launching the Organizer. I did several uninstalls and reinstalls to no avail, then spent about two hours on the phone with two customer service reps yesterday, doing multiple installs/uninstalls, multiple downloads of the files, etc.  I finally gave up and did the return, but I'm writing to express my extreme displeasure with the quality of this product and the download option for getting the files.  Customer service was of little help, and the second person I dealt with was abrupt and didn't explain what he was asking me to do.  He had me opening what I thought was an online chat to discuss the problem, but it turned out that I was allowing him to take over the desktop on my computer and work on my machine.  I am extremely uncomfortable with someone half a world away taking over my machine, for both security reasons (and he was changing security settings on my machine without asking or explaining) and because it will make it harder for me to replicate what he did in the (very likely) event that I have to address the same problem in the future.  I was also irritated that he didn't clearly ask me if it would be okay with me to take over my machine; this sort of request seems like something that should be very clearly requested and explained.
After it became pretty clear that my downloads were failing multiple times, I was offered the option to order disks and handle the install that way, but of course there is an extra cost for that option, which I was trying to avoid in the first place. (And I'm not at all sure that going that route would result in a complete, trouble-free download and installation.)
Overall, I don't feel that Adobe does a very good job of readying its products for launch and testing them thoroughly in various user configurations. I'm not a techie, but I see lots and lots of frustration on the forums and in various other places regarding perceived premature launches, poor customer support, etc. I realize software has to work on an almost infinite variety of machines and configurations, but it just doesn't seem like it should be this hard to install and use a product. What's more inexcusable to me, though, is Adobe's customer service after the sale. As I said, the second rep was abrupt, didn't explain what he was doing, and didn't solve the problem. It's also difficult to deal with international-based customer service at times when there are language or accent difficulties, which are particularly challenging when you're dealing with something complicated and technical. I tried in vain to reach someone in the US sales office this morning to complain, but the telephone system does not give you an option to talk to someone without knowing a name or extension.
In short, Adobe has lost a customer and it's a shame for all concerned.  PSE has a lot of powerful and neat features that I hoped to learn more about and use, but it's just not possible at this point for this user.

26kel I apologize for your experience.  If you can please private message me with your e-mail and phone number I can review your previous interaction and provide feedback to the technician and his supervisor.

  • What is happening with PSE 10?  Cannot "log In" to download premium features

Do I have to upgrade to PSE 11 to have support and access to the premium files?

spoke with technical support via chat.  All the "login" and "premium features" are no longer available.  The support person indicated I needed to upgrade to PSE 11.   I love photoshop elements, but just got this at Christmas and paid $100.  Don't think I'm ready to shell out another chunk.  I think I'll wait until version 12 is released.  I read online that it is supposed to be coming late this month or in October....  All the reviews on PSE 11 have been very positive.
Adobe puts out a quality product with an enormous amount of support and tutorials that are available.   I'm still a happy camper!

  • APERTURE SUPPORT

as a new apple user,G5,2.3,and as a aperture user I am both surprized and troubled by the lack of support and the dead quiet of apple concerning aperture.the members of this forem are some of the most gifted computer users I have found on any form,my fear is that you are so gifted because apple gives very little support and you must find all the answers yourselves.Adobe has vidios to show how to use Lightroom and that program is only weeks old,I have been stuggling with aperture since it came out and I still cannot find any answers to when the program problems will be fixed.is apple always so separated from the people who buy their products?? thank you all for the answers you have tried to give in the absence of apples quiet..Michael

    Hey, hey,
Thanks for the links to the Aperture review sites
I found this tidbit to be enlightening from Luminous-Landscape at the bottom:
    Howdy,
I just read the review by Michael Reichmann titled "Apple's Aperture a non-review"
"in light of this generally negative commentary, that I provide full disclosure. I have been, and still am a beta tester for some Adobe products, including Camera Raw. Furthermore, Thomas Knoll, the original author of Photoshop, and creator of Camera Raw, is a friend, has attended several of my workshops, and we have been shooting together on several occasions. I also have a friendship with Kevin Raber, the US VP of Sales and Marketing for Phase One, the publishers of Capture One software."
That said, I found many falsehoods for example:
"Firstly, it appears to be designed for future Macs. If you have a typical 2004 / 2005 generation Mac you will find running Aperture to be an exercise in waiting."
    Not true and misleading.
It runs super fast using an October 2004 2.5 GHz mac with a nVidia6800 card. Faster than anything Photoshop could ever do.
"Firstly, it appears to be designed for future Macs. If you have a typical 2004 / 2005 generation Mac you will find running Aperture to be an exercise in waiting."
Again, not true. See answer to first statement.
"another problem is font size. Maybe its me and my middle-aged eyes, but a couple of hours with Aperture makes me want to visit my optometrist to see if I need better glasses."
Doing a side by side comparison of both Photoshop & Aperture the palette fonts appear to be exactly the same size as Aperture project fonts and sometimes Photoshop fonts are smaller still. Again another misleading statement by Luminous-Landscape.
"One of the major complaints against Aperture, which I resoundingly echo, is that it is a unitary database program. By this I mean that it keeps all of its files and data in one huge database. This has several implications. The first is that your entire collection of raw files, completed files, versions etc, can not be larger than a single hard drive. This is simply unacceptable for a professional application."
I'm using the same size hard drive that I was using for my Photoshop files 400 GB HD but now with Aperture I am saving many many gigabytes of storage that Photoshop was using with it's multiple versions of the same image file. So in fact by using Aperture a user can save on hard drive space.
"Yes, I know that you can change to a different database, but what if you want to search for, compare and re-catalog files that reside on different disks? Can't do it. Bad. Really bad. Can you say "dumb design"?"
Aperture not only lets a user search multiple databases it does it much faster than Photoshop. The same exact databases or hard drives used for photoshop files can be indexed and searched in Aperture.
"I am very uncomfortable having my files living inside a large unitary database."
"Consequently Aperture really has little utility for cataloging images. Without the ability to catalog files outside of its own limited environment, photographers are forced to use other cataloging programs, and these are incapable of reaching inside Aperture to index its files. All in all a bad situation."
Another flat out lie. Aperture can access any metadata and has presets from IPTC & EXIf protocol which is an industry standard. It has very robust metadata & cataloging features.
"I've left the question of raw editing till last. I have to say that I'm not overly impressed. Both Camera Raw and Capture One do a much better job in almost every regard, and faster to. It will also be unusual for any photographer to be happy with the overall level and variety of image control offered by Aperture, and therefore a trip to Photoshop will be necessary."
No data is given to back this statement up. We are left with believing Mr. Reichmann's already misleading statements.
"Apple makes this fairly easy on the way out, but problematic on the way back because Aperture doesn't understand Photoshop's layers."
    Again, another fabricated lie.
Aperture can manage photoshop layers very well and maintains their stucture. All one has to do is select External Editor from Aperture and make the edits in Photoshop, the layers are preserved for future edits.
"(Layers on files coming back into Aperture from Photoshop are flattened, though if you re-export they are still there)."
Not true at all. See answer above.
"the Photoshoped file needs to reside inside the Aperture database for the whole system to make any sense without large numbers of multiple copies of files ending up all over the place."
Not true. Aperture makes 1 file that is edited in Photoshop, just 1 and it is placed in the Library not all over the place as Mr. Reichmann would have us to believe.
"Metadata and IPTC support is not very good, with no IPTC templates"
    Not true.
"and also the inability to export complete metadata to other applications or import it properly."
Again, Mr. Reichmann does not know what he is talking about. All metadata is preserved on Aperture and is exportable.
"There are other flaws and gotcha's, almost too numerous to mention."
    Name them. I'll be waiting.
In light of Mr. Reichmanns comments Luminous-Landscape has gone down several notches in my book.
    love & peace,
    victor
