PSE 5 doesn't recognize drive when attempting backup

I have Adobe
Photoshop Elements 5.0. When I try to do a backup to my
optical drive, it does'nt display in the destination field. I know the optical drive works, since I use it to burn disks with other software, e.g. NTI CD & DVD Maker.

Sorry for the delay in responding; we were without power for a day.
As to your first question: I can't get that far in the backup process.
And, as far as I know, what I was attempting to do was a true Catalog backup
using PSE's backup function, rather than doing just a copy files to disk
type of backup.
Here are the actions I have taken to do a backup of my catalog with PSE5:
1. I opened the Organizer with the catalog I wished to backup, and did a
File>Backup Catalog.
2. A Recovering time line displayed until the recovery was complete.
3. A Backup Options window displayed: I checked Full Backup.
4. The Select Destination Drive window then opened. It Displayed 3 drive
options: C:\, D:\ and F:\. I actually don't have a D:\ drive. The F:\ is my
external hard drive. My optical drive that I use to burn disks is
desigtnated E:\.
5. Since the E:\ drive does not display, I can not progress the backup
further. So, I don't know what would be the wording for my backup option to
burn to a DVD.
In a nutshell, the problem is that SPE5 , at least the one on my computer,
fails to recognize my E:\ drive.
I don't know wheteher this has a bearing, but I'll share it with you, just
in case. I have Adobe PSE Catalogs all over the place. Most likely this is
due to my initial, and continuing ignorance about PSE's Catalogs
functionality. Another fact is that I downloaded a free trial version of
PSE8. Just before I installed it, I copied My Catalog as My CatalogBU,
thinking I had done a true backup. I then opened PSE8, tried it, and decided
it would not enhance my image oraganization needs. So, without uninstalling
PSE8, I went back to using PSE5. Since then I have uninstalled PSE8. In
addition to the disk burning problem I related above, I now need to figure
out how to delete all but the most current Catalog and rename it. But, first
things first.
An guidance that you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Don

    Hi.
It's look like that new disk was used at array with FW 7.x and have new version of DACstore.
    You can read
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=340296&tstart=0#14528182
    support.oracle.com : ID 1019666.1
    For check:
Connect serial cable to array controller, set boudrate. Reseating one new disk.
    message like:
08/25/08-17:50:45 (GMT) (ssmDriveSpinTask): WARN: Unsupported dacstore: dev = 0x1
    means that is true.
Possible solution: Connect CSM200 directly to server and clear disk. ( dd for example).
For test - start with 1 disk and check.
After - Connect CSM200 back to 6140 and check this disk.
    Regards.

  • Time Machine Doesn't Recognize Drive

My Macbook Pro died the other night -- it wouldn't wake from sleep and couldn't be restarted -- and it now has a new logic board. Everything seems okay, but Time Machine no longer recognizes my time machine backups. The files are all there, on the same drive they were always on. But TM doesn't see them and won't back up, giving me an error that the time machine drive can't be found.
So I re-specified the drive in Time Machine preferences. And now TM now says that it doesn't have enough room for the backup on that drive -- presumably because it wants to start over and back up the whole drive again.
I've checked both the internal drive and the TM drive with Disk Utility. No problems found.
    Does anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks very much,
    Steve

Thanks for responding. Yes, I see. New logic board, new computer.
If I have to start over, I'd like to hold on to those old backups -- and put the new backup on the partition where the old one was. So I tried copying the whole TM backup to another partition, where I could keep it for protection.
But apparently you're not supposed to do this. The finder asks for your password twice in order to do it and it took about a half hour just to prepare to copy -- and it counted about 2 million files. Is there any way to back up the back up, or do I just blow it away?
In that FAQ they refer you to an article that allows you to use the terminal to point the Mac back at the original backup. But it seems pretty fragile and easy to make a mistake. (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101)
I also called Apple support and after escalating the call I got a guy who was willing to do much the same console thing. We started and immediately got an error from the console. If the Apple guy can screw this up, maybe I should stay away.
Suggestions? Do I just give up and start over?
    Thanks again,
    Steve

  • IMovie doesn't recognize camera when external hd is connected

I can't import a movie from my camera into iMovie6 when a external hd is connected. That is,a 400gb LaCie tripple interface or a freecom classic sl hard drive400gb.
When a LaCie Mini 80gb is connected there is no problem.
When one of the above is connected with firewire iM doesn't recognize the camera at all.
When connected with usb2 it does see the camera, but only imports for about two seconds and that quits.
    Any suggestions?
    Jacqo

    Thanks Karsten.
Yes, my camera is a Canon, but not one of the models mentioned in that tech note.
    I've solved it now.
Reading your reply gave me a bright idea.
If that is true why can I import with the smaller LaCie hd connected?
Look at the type of firewire cable Jacqo.
Yes,that is a different type of cable;connected the 400g with the cable that came with the 80g hd and eureka,it works.
So it was just a matter of the right type of firewire cable.
Why didn't I think of that earlier.
    Again ,Thanks Karsten.

  • After upgrade to 10.5, computer doesn't recognize camera when attached

I recently upgraded from OSX 10.3 to 10.5 and ran Software Update. I don't know for sure if it's related, of course, but now nothing happens when I connect my camera to the computer; it used to automatically open iPhoto and go to the import window. Now nothing, not even the clicking in the hard drive when I make the connection. I've checked the USB cable to make sure it's securely in place at both the computer and the camera, and made sure the camera is in the correct mode. I've also tried your troubleshooting basics (Repair Permissions, deleting the plist file, and creating a new system account) none of which worked. I'm ready to try a reinstallation of iPhoto. Is that what you suggest? If so, do I need to uninstall anything before running another installation? And do I run it from the iLife disk? Do I do a custom install of iPhoto only? Or do I run it from either my original system disks that came with the computer or from my new Leopard disk?
Also--I know this is perhaps off topic, but I mention it in case it might be a related problem. Since installing Leopard, my keyboard button that normally opens and closes the disk drawer does not work at all. I'm having to open it by restarting and holding down the mouse button.
Thanks for your time. Sorry if too many questions.

I don't think 10.5 will install on your machine. Check if you have enough MGHz or RAM or some of that stuff smarter people than I talk about.
I have had to stop with 10.3.9 on the iMac. Please let me know if you can install 10.5

  • Time machine doesn't recognize old time machine backups after new drive

After getting my original hard drive replaced on apple care. Time machine refuses to recognize time machine backups dating back to October when I first installed Leopard. The Records are there on an "off-board" Lacie drive. Any fixes for this? I have had so many problems with Time Machine I am afraid to turn it back on. Last time it took over 40 hours to do an initial back-up.

Yes I had been having multiple problems and once saved the entire system in archive and install and also time machine had been active since October when I first installed it. all of this was saved to an off-board Lacie drive I can find the old time machine files easily enough but time machine since the new drive, does not recognize them. Since I got the drive back with tiger installed, I first had to re-install Leopard so I don't know if that caused Time machine to start over . I did do an archive and install at that time but there was nothing really to archive since they had not recovered my old files. If this wasn't bad enough The Technician replaced my administrator password with his own and the was off for a few days and I couldn't do anything for awhile. You have been very helpful thank you for your time on my behalf.
    Respectfully,

  • New MAC Mini w/OSX Lion - will not boot from USB or external optical drive when attempting to use BootCamp to install Windows 7?

The University recently purchased 6 brand new MAC minis for deployment in classrooms I support.  I am attempting to create a dualk--boot environment comparable to our existing computer systems, only these machines wil be running MAC OS X Lion and Windows 7.  After following the procedures outlined in the BootCamp on-screen prompts, and attempting a few techniques I found in the tech support user-base, I am still unable to get the MAC mini to boot up from the USB flash drive, or from an external optical drive, so that I can complete the installation of Windows 7.  When using the Boot option key at start-up, all devices are displayed suggesting that they are being properly recognized, however the computer boots to a black screen with an error message indicating that "No bootable devices are  found - press any key to continue." I am able to boot into the computer's internal drive, but not from any external devices.  I fully expected that the semi-automated BootCamp procedure properly prepares the USB device for booting, and for installing the Windows 7 OS.

Meh, with the price they take for a drive in Denmark, I don't think it's worth it... They take around 160 $ for the drive (that's the cheapest MacBook drive I could find), and I am not even sure that's the one I need.

  • G3 doesn't recognize drive

I have an external drive that I used on my G3 but switched it over to my mini when I bought it. I've moved the drive back to the G3 but it doesn't show up on the desktop. System Profiler shows it exists, though. Is there any way I can get it to appear on my G3?

    Discovering the partition scheme
You can easily find out what partition scheme a disk has using Disk Utility.
    Open Disk Utility:
If you're started from a Mac OS X installation disc, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. If you're started from your computer's Mac OS X volume, open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder. You can get there by choosing Utilities from the Finder's Go menu. Select the hard disk (not the volume) in the left side of the Disk Utility window. The disk usually contains the name of the drive vendor, not "Macintosh HD" or a name you chose.
Tip: In Disk Utility, volume names are indented on the left side of the window. Disk names are not indented.
From the Disk Utility File menu, choose Get Info.
Look for the "Partition Type:" line.
A PowerPC-based Mac can only install Mac OS X on a disk with the "Applepartitionscheme."
An Intel-based Mac can only install Mac OS X on a disk with the "GUIDpartitionscheme."
from TS1600- "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume..." alert in Installer

I have a MacBook Pro, an iPod, and an iPhone.  Using the same usb port and cable I have the following situation.  The MacBook Pro recognizes both other devises in iTunes through the internet.  The MacBook Pro does not recognize the iPhone 5 when connected by cable but does recognize the iPod.  Because of this I can't transfer photos from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro.  When connected the iPod shows it is charging but the iPhone 5 does not.  Using the same cable connected to the wall charger both devices show they are charging.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  Thank you.

  • Lookout does not recognize passwords when attempting access to client process through web

When accessing client process through a web browser Lookout prompts for username and password but doesn't accept valid username and password.

Passwords are unique to each machine not to the application. For example if I were to load your application onto my machine, my security settings would be in place. I have never had Lookout ask for a password when accessing through a web browser. Does the machine you are using have Lookout on it also? If it does, you need to use the user names and passwords for that machine. If not,try using user name "administrator and no password.

  • IChat doesn't recognize anyone when I try to send message.(AIM)

I rarely have any problems logging onto iChat, but when I message someone and try to send a message a window appears that reads, "Add at least on person to this chat before sending the first message". It seems as if they don't even recognize them. Sometimes, iChat will just quit and a different window will appear and it says that iChat has quit unexpectedly and then asks if I want to relaunch, report, or to just ignore. This problem has recently occurred. I usually have no problem with the application.

    Hi Britany,
I have a system for getting to read all the posts.
First of All I get Emails as I am Susbcribed to every thread I have already Replied to.
Once I have read these and update them if required I use the Back to Forum link and start with the oldest unread thread.
Just because I have not replied means that I have either been sleeping or working.
Both Defcom and I are in the UK so there is also the Time Zone factor to add in.
A chat window that opens in the manner you describe is actually a Group chat window used for Group chats/Chatrooms.
In the View menu you get the option to display the Chat Participants.
Sometimes iChat does seem to take it into it's head that it wants to start a group chat when you have not asked it to.
The other issues also points to an issue with iChat.
I would start with deleting com.apple.ichat.plist
You will have to go to your Home Folder then the Library then Preferences manually by clicking the folders.
    Restart iChat afterwards.
