PSE 5: program error

i have been using pse 5 for almost 2 years now and all of a sudden i am getting this code when i try to run my editor "could not process your request due to a program error" and then windows xp tells me they are shutting it down cause it's not responding and then i get a run time error. this just started and i dont understand what to do. anyone have any words of wisdom.

Try resetting the preferences. Hold Ctrl + Alt + Shiftkeys on your keyboard and click to launch PSE. Keep holding the keys until a dialog appears asking you if you are sure of deleting the preferences. Click OK.
If that doesn't help, try rebooting the machine.
Let me know if that helps.

  • PSE 5  program error + runtime error R6025

I've had PSE 5 installed for abt a yr on Windows XP SP3 and was working fine till abt 3 weeks ago when it went buggy.  I get "could not complete your request because of a program error" even with simple tasks such as opening a file.  I also often get a "Runtime Error! Program: Adobe/Photoshop Elements 5.0/PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe R6025 -pure virtual function call"   I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, trying to delete relevant folders, but am having the same problem.  I am not sure abt the procedure for a clean reinstall, if that's what necessary, I may have neglected to delete sth essential when I reinstalled.  Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks!

The first thing to do reset your application preference files and see if that cures the problem. (If the preferences are corrupt, a reinstall of the program will not fix them as they are stored outside of the program folder.)
Adobe tech doc on runtime errors:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403090.html
If the above doesn't do the trick:
You might have an incompatibility issue or version conflict somewhere...
    Potential culprits:
Right before this started occurring did you install a new filter or a filter trial?
Did you point you plug in folder in Elements to another version of Elements or Photoshop?
Did you install a version of Camera Raw that isn't compatible with your version?
Google this phrase: Photoshop R6025 pure virtual function call and/or Photoshop Elements R6025 pure virtual function call. Maybe, you'll see something that rings a bell.

  • PSE 6 Program Error when trying to open a photo file???

Brand new macbook and PSE 6. I just installed. Programs works fine except when I try to open photos from iphoto file I receive an "program error" message. Any suggestions for this frustrated first timer?

You can't use File>Open on the iphoto library. You should never try to get into the iphoto library from anywhere except iphoto. You need to do one of two things if you are going to use iphoto:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor in the iphoto prefs and send the photos from there. Save, not Save As after editing and iphoto will keep one version of the photo + the original.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, open them in PSE with File>Open, edit, and reimport the edited photos as new photos with different names.

  • "Program Error"  While trying to print in PSE 9

Download and installed updates to PSE 9.0, Now 9.03. While in PSE mode I can no longer print images to Epson Photo R2880 or HP J4680. I can print to both printers using HP Media Smart Photo application, but if I attempt to print from PS Elements I get the following "could not print (image title) because of program error". I have since uninstalled the upgrade to PSE 9.03, I have also  done a system restore all to no avail. I still can't print while in PSE. Any experience with this? Any resolution ? Help !!!

  • Program error when trying to use the clone stamp tool - PSE 8

When trying to use the CLONE STAMP TOOL, getting the following:  "Could not use the clone stamp tool because of a program error".
Runnng PSE 8 on Windows XP/SP3.  I purchased the key to have a full version, versus the 'trial version'.  I also have Photo Essentials 3 installed and have used it without any problems.
    Any suggestions?

    I figured it out - it was ID 10 T error...ugh.
Was following along in a book and blindly did what it said....was forgetting to hit the 'alt' key when first defining the area to clone....
However, it was kind of a confusing error message - something like "clone area not defined" would be more of a help.
    thanks.

  • PSE 6- Error: Could not load style because of a program error.

I have PSE 6 on Vista. My program has always run fine until a few days ago when it started up a small white window pops up with a red X that says Could not load the styles because of a program error. I hit ok and the box keeps coming back. I can't do anyint in PSE and I have to end task to close out of the program. How do I fix this.

Delete MediaDatabase.db3 file from location C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US and launch elements again.
This would rebuild the layer styles and all.

  • PSE 5 Error "could not complete the open command because of a program error"

I have been using PSE 5 for years but all of a sudden when I try to open multiple files "could not complete the open command because of a program error" appears.  I have reformatted my computer and reinstalled all programs & updates but still get the error.  I am trying to access photo files in a specific, user created, directory on my computer; the funny thing is that if I access files in the My Documents\My pictures\ Sample pictures folder I am able to open all the files.  Any and all help or suggestions are welcome.  Thanks

When you choose liquify command it says "Could not complete the Liquify command because of a disk error." so nothing at all happens other than the error message
There is plenty of room on my scratch disks --lots of it
Tried using a smaller selection using Marquee Tool to outline a smaller area near where I want to Liquify.  makes no difference.  tried a small file as well.  no ability to use liquify.
    This is really weird.
keep probing the depths of your mac ideas, as I am going a bit nuts with this, friends

  • PSE 12 - Can't open catalog - some internal programming error. Can NOT open PSE 12 organizer

Can not pass Catalog manager - Can't open catalog - sez an internal programming error occurred?????

Yes, it seems like a problem with the main catalog.  I haven't seen a failed conversion before that didn't write a conversion log.  So there aren't many clues to go on.  I have just one more suggestion -- run the utility psedbtool on your PSE 6 catalog:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/
Because you have both PSE 6 and 8 installed, you'll have to run it specially:
    1. Start PSE 6 and do Help > System Info to find the folder path of your PSE 6 catalog folder.
    2. Start a command prompt.
    3. Type these two commands:
    cd c:\psedbtool
    .\psedbtool -printVolumeTable > output.log
    4. Copy and paste the contents of c:\psedbtool\output.log here.

  • PSE 6 "Could not load the styles b/c of a program error

This is an error that evolved from the "This styles file is bad or corrupt.
Found a folder accidentally downloaded into Styles area and removed it, checked every other file in there, all good, rebooted.  Now PSE has a new error "Could not load the styles because of a program error."  Any more help?

I posted this on your other thread...
Yeah, it's the bit I deleted but wanted to find the reference before posting.
Navigate to the MediaDatabase.db3 file and rename it...add a ~to the front of the filename or name it something like  MediaDatabase.db3.TMP. It will take several minutes to rebuild...may take 5 - 10 minutes so be patient.

  • PSE 8 for Mac - Program Error - how can I save?

I'm using PSE8 for Mac on an Intel MacBook with 4Gb or RAM, running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. When I'm editing JPEGs, usually all goes well; but sometimes I find I can't save a file I've edited, and I get a dialog box saying: "Could not complete your request because of a program error". After this appears, no form of saving works - not switching to a different format (such a PNG), not 'Save As...' to a different location, nothing. I just have to abandon the file. This happens pretty frequently and it's very frustrating. Can anyone suggest a workaround, and does anyone know if Adobe are aware of the problem. The error message seems pretty generic, BTW. Is there any way of knowing what has really gone wrong?
    TIA

    Wish I could duplicate this.
I'm running CS4 and do most of my work in Photoshop Extended, but I also have PSE 8 on my MacBook and I have an identical setup (2.26 Core Duo 4Gb RAM). Mine works OK though.
One thing I have learned in the last two years is that the generic program error usually refers to an outdated plugin or preset.
I have about 900 brushes, and another 500 custom shapes. I'm still going through the list to find the ones that are incompatible. When I try to load some of them I get the generic program error message. I have also had trouble with some older Alien Skin filters that will apply to a working file, but give me the same error when I try to save. Just a program error, no specifics, and then I have to colse the app, and reopen it to get back to work, losing all progress when I do.
As far as the uninstall, it sounds like you didn't get it completely uninstalled. If you're not too comfortable digging around in the library and application support and preferences files, try something like AppZapper or AppDelete which not only remove the app, but all related files too. The you can do a clean install and try it again.

  • PSE 9 suddenly will not open pse files - due to "program error"

The program was working fine yesterday and now suddenly will not open pse files created yesterday or today. The error message reads "could not complete action due to program error." Am I going to need to deactivate and reinstall - and if so, how do I do that? Will I lose all brushes loaded into presets, all files currently unable to be opened if I do that?

I have the same or at least similar issue - When try
ing to open a Photoshop Elements 9 slideshow I get this message
"This application has requested the Runtime
to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact
this application's support team for further assistance" I first saw this problem today - can't think of why now.  I've had the program since last Christmas.
I sure would like a solution as I'm in the midst of a project with it.

  • Program error in PSE ver.5

I'm using version 5 of PSE and recently am finding a program error message when I try to crop and create a photo from the image.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Gary,
Just out of curiosity I looked at my Photoshop CS3 Plugin folder and found two FontAgent plugins: FontAgent Pro.plugin and FontAgent Pro Helper.plugin. As my auto activation works without issue I wondered if you had both plugins installed?

  • Pse 11: internal programming error; error 213:11, and other problems

    Dear Collective community,
I have recently installed pse 11 and am having a few issues.
A kind person responsed to my previous query, however their solutions were unsuccessful and I am still having problems with catalog manager.
1.When I first click on the pse icon on the desktop, it tells me that "Failed to open catalog.  the catalog cannot be opened.  An internal programming error has occurred. When i click OK, catalog manager opens.
I try to create a new catalog e.g. dummy catalog, however when i do, it then tells me that dummy catalog cannot be created because you do not have permission to create a file at specified location.
I am confused because i am the administrator.
Please excuse my somewhat 'stupid' questions, I am tired of trying different solutions when I just want it to open properly, so I can use it for what it is meant for.
I appreciate all kinds of responses.
    Thanking you in advance
    Sarah

    hi Barbara,
Thanks for such a quick response.  I tried your solution however I cannot even locate the program data/adobe in the c:
Im so frustrated and am probably overlooking something extremely small.
Any other solutions are happily welcomed.
    Many many thanks

  • Reinstall PSE 6 to correct Program Error?

Windows XP-Pro (SP3): I recently installed PSE 6 after uninstalling PSE 3. It's a registered version and I have the CD. All is fine except the Clone Stamp is not working, I get a Program Error message. Can I just reinstall PSE 6 for trying to correct it and is there a proper way of doing it? I noticed that in my Program Files there are some PSE 3 remnants. Also I have Photoshop CS (8.0) installed.

Thanks, I tried it but no luck. I still get this message "Could not use the clone stamp tool because of a program error" when I move the clone brush (21px) to an area to be cloned and then click on it. And I just noticed that the Spot Healing Brush and Eraser do not function either although they do not give me a Program Error message. Cookie cutter selection and usage works fine. I have not tried the Red Eye Removal tool.

  • Error Message in PSE 12. Cannot complete request due to a Program Error

    Hi,
I have just bought Photoshop Elements 12 and have checked for updates. All ok. My laptop meets the system requirements. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. There is stacks of room on the dedicated hard drive I use for Elements. I use a Nikon 7100. When I am editing my RAW images sometimes everything is fine with the edit completed and saved as designed. At other times I do my editing, click on "open image" and I get an error message that my request cannot be completed because of a program error. The only thing I can do to get editing again is to re-start Elements. Sometimes I get the error message at my first edit and at other times on my second, after a successful first save.
I'd be grateful for any ideas as to why I'm getting this message and what I need to do to fix it.
    Thanks.
