PSE 6.0 hangs on file open/read
I have PSE 6.0 on my Windows Vista Home Premium system. This is a new Dell XPS. Everytime I try to open any file the program hangs regardless of the file size. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I have added the updates from the Adobe site. Same problem everytime. Any help would be appreciated.

Reader 8.1.2 hangs on File Open menu
My Acrobat Reader was upgraded to 8.1.2 last week. The program works fine if I open a PDF file by double-clicking on the name in a Windows Explorer window. However, the program hangs when I try to use the File Open menu. I have to use Task Manager to end the task and close the program. I am using Windows XP, SP2 on an HP desktop. I don't think this was a problem on earlier versions of Reader.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.After updating to 8.1.2 from 8.1.1 the program will not open. I deleted 8.1.2 and installed reader 7. That would not open. I tried to restore the OS to a date before the update but it did not work. I removed all adobe reader programs including from the register. I then re-installed reader 8.1.2 but it will not open from the short cut or from the explorer. I have 8.1.1 on my laptop and it has no problem. I had no problem before the updating. Help

Mac hangs on file open, Mac hangs on file open
I am using Stata, a statistical analysis program. Recently, when I try to open a file, using File Open, the program hangs and I have to force it to quit. I can open files easily if I use Recent files. When the file gets open, I can do everything I should be able to do with the program. Analysis, graphics, etc. It is JUST when I do File Open that it hangs, and it seems to be ONLY with Stata.
Any suggestions?
DonHi Don,
I don't have it, but...
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does Stata work in the new account? -
Most applications hang when performing File | Open
Hello,
Excel 2013, Word 2013, Notepad+ and other applications all hang when File | Open is selected. I read a post stating that it could be related to printers.
When I try to go to Control Panel | Devices and Printers, nothing loads so I would guess there is something wrong with printers.
Would anyone have a suggestion on how to debug printer problems on Windows 8.1?
Thank you, BillHi,
Could you please have a share with the post which stating the issue is related with printers?
To narrow down the issue, please try to boot into clean boot and see if the open/save dialog would work:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
For the Devices and Printers not load, could you please give us a screenshot? Besides, please also check into Event Viewer and see if there are any errors logged. Use Windows Search to search Event Viewer, then select
View Event Logs
Reference: What information appears in event logs? (Event Viewer) ;
For Windows 8.1 hangs, please take a try with a refresh or reset, then check the results.

For the printers troubleshooting, we may take a look at the following article first:

Hyperlinked files open with Pro even though Reader is default PDF application
Hello.
I have a Windows 2008 x64 Server that I have installed both Adobe Pro X and Adobe Reader X on. I have installed Pro first, then Reader, both with MST files, so that Reader is the default PDF viewer. Reader shows as the default program and if you double click on a PDF document, Reader does indeed open. However, if a hyperlink in Word or some other document points to a PDF file, Adobe Pro opens instead. I need to make Reader the default application for all references to PDF files, but I need to keep Pro and Reader installed on the server at the same time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JohnThat was always set correctly. However, I did uninstall and reinstall Reader with a newer patch. It seems to be the default for even embedded PDF files now. The new problem is Reader now asks for the user to select a language before opening, but it does this only with embedded pdfs. Double clicking on an actual pdf file opens Reader with no issues.

Applescript: file.open("r") returns empty in jsx
Hey guys,
i am having a bit of a scripting problem here. The big goal for me at the moment is creating a UI script to control aerender.
To achieve getting feedback from the terminal about when an aerender process is completed, i let the terminal trigger an applescript running a jsx inside after effects (since the terminal can't run a jsx inside after effects itself).
However, this particular script needs to eval the contents of a text file that is outputted during the render process (its just a log file put into a fixed location). No matter what i do: I can't get a proper response from the script. Here is what should happen when a render is done:
function RenderEnd () {
var report = new File ("Macintosh HD/Users/macname/generallog.txt");
report.open("r");
var reportstring = report.read();
report.close();
var reportendindex = reportstring.indexOf("Total Time Elapsed:");
var reportcloseindex = reportstring.indexOf("aerender version");
var reportendstring = reportstring.substring(reportendindex, [reportcloseindex]);
var regex = /Finished composition/gi, result, indices = [];
while ( (result = regex.exec(reportstring)) ) {
indices.push(result.index);
var ItemStringArray = new Array ();
for(var i=0; i<indices.length; i++){
ItemStringArray.push("Finished Item " + (i+1) + ": " + reportstring.substring(indices[i]-32, [indices[i]-2]));
var AlertString = "Rendering done." + "\r" + reportendstring + "\r" + ItemStringArray.toString().replace(",","\r");
alert(AlertString);
RenderEnd ();
Running this script by itself properly returns an alert containing a message "Rendering done." plus additional info about the render time and item completion.
But whenever i have the following applescript triggering the above jsx script...
set scriptfile to (POSIX file ("/Applications/Adobe After Effects CS5.5/Scripts/AERenderEndTrigger.jsx"))
tell application "Adobe After Effects CS5.5"
DoScriptFile scriptfile
end tell
...the line report.open("r") just returns empty.
Same goes when i place the jsx in the startup folder and just call the function RenderEnd () via applescript. It's as if the file open/read stuff does not work when using applescript.
Does anybody have an idea about this or knows the reason for why this obviously wrong behaviour happens? Maybe someone knows a different approach of how to get feedback from a completed aerender process back into a UI script.Ok, i finally found the issue:
Applescript apparently does not recognize file paths beginning with a drive designation:
When i change the file path part of the report file from
var report = new File ("Macintosh HD/Users/macname/generallog.txt");
to simply
var report = new File ("/Users/macname/generallog.txt");
everything works as it should.
It's still a bit weird and i don't understand this. Maybe someone can explain this to me, please? -
File opening hang in lion 10.7.2
I'm using a new mac book pro ( MD318 ) .
recently I had a problem with file opening in finder. after I am trying to open the folder in finder , it hangs and I have to wait about 1~2 minutes for opening the folder.
I followed this http://www.macworld.com/article/163227/2011/10/fix_a_lion_file_opening_hang_in_m ac_os_x_10_7_2.htmlhttp://www.macworld.com/article/163227/2011/10/fix_a_lion_file_opening_hang_in_m ac_os_x_10_7_2.html but it didn't help me.
and yes I created a new user and delete my current user . the problem is still there
for the records I repaired my disk permission via disk utility and still the problem didn't fixed.
there isn't any problem in browsing folders in "my computer" in windows, so I guess there is not a hardware problem.
any Idea ?While booted in Safe Mode, did the Finder crash?
1. If no, do this in Terminal:
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
2. If yes, remove any non-Apple files from
/Library/LaunchDaemons
(move them to your Desktop so that you can put them back later if it doesn't solve the problem)
3. In either case, after doing either 1 or 2 above, restart the mac and test. -
Word and Excel hang "downloading" file from network drive - copy file to be able to open it
Word or Excel hang trying to open files on a network drive maybe after an untidy close.
Symptoms: pick the file from a pinned entry on recent list or even direct from File!Open... or by double clicking on the file from file explorer. Word/Excel show in the middle of the status line a comment "Downloading:filename "
a progress bar, that shows no progress, and a white cross on a red circle to close. Some minutes later may Excel/Word say could not open filename.
I have removed any temporary copies of the file prefixed with the ~. However there are no documents shown in any document recovery pane.
If I rename the original file the problem is still there.
I can only clear the problem by working on a copy of the file. It works with either a new name of if the copy is used to replace the original file.
It seems file explorer's "copy" is clearing something within the file that is causing this problem.
I have seen the same issue with both Excel and Word documents in native Office 2010 format.
Is there a better way to clear this issue?
ThanksHi,
It doesn't hang/crash, does it?
If you could provide the exact error message, it would be preferred to determine the cause.

Can't get OPP service started after OATM due to can't open file for reading
This is my second run on the OATM upgrade. OPP (and thus XML reports) came up fine after the 2nd run. After this run, had some issues with enqueing and solved them in an S/R with Oracle, but now I can't start OPP. I have tried all sorts of things, like aborting it in OATM, restarting, shutting down instance, running cmclean twice, resubmitting request, etc. Here is the error I get:
As System Administrator in forms, go to:
Concurrent -> Manager -> Administer
-> pick Output Post Processor (from the many manager in the list)
-> by the way it says "Activating" under status, seems stuck there.
-> then hit the Processes button
-> it will show a long list of "Terminated" and default to the first
one at the top.
-> Hit the "Manager Log" button
-> you now get
"APP-FND-01632: Cannot open file
/sechi/applcsf/log/SECHI_orav880d/FNDOPP1380237.txt for reading
Cause: [Routine] encountered an error when attempting to open file
sechi/applcsf/log/SECHI_orav880d/FNDOPP1380237.txt for reading
Action: Verify that the filename is correct, the environment variables
controlling that filename are correct, and the file exists.
Action: Verify that protections on that file permit reading by this
program
- but what is wierd is that the permissions on this dir are 777. I can see old OPP logs in that directory from before OATM. I can manually create a file with the name it complains about , then the app opens up the blank file with nothing in it. It seems that file is not getting created, not that it can't be opened.
If I need to change the log level of OPP please also tell me how to do that if it would provide some clues.
THanks MarvinOne more thing I am going to try first....
I am going to change the service ID of the OPP manager. It keeps trying
to restart the dead process maybe that it is..

System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(word);
word = null;
doc = null;
GC.Collect();
GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers();I know it's a very old issue and I reached to this page looking for a solution. Finally, I have found a fix to this problem.
The problem is that we create an instance of Word and do not close it correctly. This makes program believe that the file is already open and hence you're getting the respective message of file being locked by you.
Set the visibility of your application to true and then when you close it both file and instance should close and you will not get the problem again. -
I would like to use Firefox with Sharepoint.
However, I am only able to open a file in "read only" mode whch means I cannot edit the document and save it. I am also not able to "check-out" a document in Sharepoint and edit it at the same time.This may not work for everyone, but I solved this problem by clicking on the file name in sharepoint, not the document icon to the left of the name. This then brought up the various options, including checking out, editing, version history etc. It seems obvious but I have only just realised this!

When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes
When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes. I have to open the reader, then search for the pdf file through the reader. I'm using Adobe Reader 11.0.5 with windows 7 service pack 1 home premium. Is there any way I can just click on a PDF file and the reader automaticaly opens? I purchased the upgrade so I can convert PDF to Word but it didnt make any difference.
Some things to try...
Update Reader to version 11.0.06
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html -
Files open as a blank in Adobe Reader 9.5.4
Files open as a blank in Adobe Reader 9.5.4MUI. It seems that some files if created on my computer will open, but others will not if coming from elsewhere such as the internet. My operating system is Windows 7
Is there a reason you haven't updated to 11.0.3?
