PSE 7/8 32- 64 bit?

Hi all,
I have a new Winders 7 64 bit computer and am trying to get my catalog from an XP 32 bit box with PSE7 working on it.
My files are all on a separate drive so have not changed location and I am not trying to copy my pictures etc around, just open the catalog on a different computer.
Initially I put a trial PSE8 on the W7 box but that would not open the PSE7 catalog saying it had to be repaired with the application that created it. So I went back in on the XP box and tried to do a repair which completed without finding any errors. This made no difference whatsoever. After a week of trying various combinations of this and that I have given up with PSE8 thinking it must have some change to the catalog format.
So I have now installed PSE7 on my W7/64 box and tried to open the XP/32 PSE7 catalog with it but it says 'The catalog could not be opened. It is either corrupt, or the version is out of date and cannot be updated'. However as I can open it in XP/32 it is patently not corrupted nor is it out of date as I am using the same PSE version on both machines.
I am led to conclude that there is some portability issue between 32 and 64 bit PSE catalogs but that still doesn't really help me figure out how to get round this and get my 12k photos working in PSE7 (or 8) on my new computer. I have several weeks worth of new photos waiting to be imported which I cannot do until I have got my existing ones happy on the new box.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks John and Juergen for the replies.
To clarify I am now concentrating solely on going from PSE7 on XP/32 to PSE7 on W7/64. I have run the psedbtool on the XP db and it reports no errors other than warnings about disk serials, which is to be expected as it has gone from being a real machine to a virtual one so the disk serials will be different, There are no missing files or anything like that. It does report a series of 'Paths used by PSE' that I would not expect but there are no files listed under them so I don't know whether they are just ones that the system as a whole includes. Anyway, this is the system where it works ok.
I have verified that it is correct catalog and have now clicked on the pse7db file in W7 which generates the error I originally reported, namely  'The catalog could not be opened. It is either corrupt, or the version is out of date and cannot be updated'. I was wondering if it was a permissions problem but have checked and the files are all owned by my user.
***STOP PRESS*** As I was writing the above it occurred to me to try running PSE7 as 'Administrator'. Miraculously it then opened the catalog ok. So it does appears to be some sort of permissions issue other than the obvious. I will take a deeper look but any suggestions would also be appreciated. The files and disk was physically moved to the new computer and not copied so there must be something XPish that W7 does not like about the file permissions etc. At least I have something to go on now, though PSE7 could have been a little more helpful with it's error message as the catalog is neither corrupt nor out-of-date.

  • PSE 8 - Snow Leopard 64-bit

    Hi all.
Should be an easy one (although I've look throught the website and can't find the answer!) – does PSE 8 run 64-bit in Snow Leopard?
I'm sure I've read on another website that it does, so installed the trial version and was disappointed to see it run in 32-bit mode.
I remember reading that "the retail version come with both 32 and 64-bit versions". Is this true? I'm keen on purchasing but would like to know this first.
    Cheers,
    S.

Unlike Ps CS4 which has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions, PSE only has only 32 bit version and run only in 32 bit mode even on the 64 bit machine.
To answer your query: It shall run fine even on a 64 bit machine.
    Regards,
    Ankush

  • Does PSE 12 work with 16 bit colour channels better than PSE11?

Whilst I am definitely dissapointed that PSE 12 is not a native 64 bit windows application, I might still purchase it if it handles images with 16 bit colour depth fully, which PSE 11 does not.
I cannot find any reference to this anywhere. - Normally this would mean that there is no change.
Does anybody know the definitive answer please?

    There is no change.
I don't know why you would need it, but I don't.

The reason is that if you edit first in ACR, any ulterior 16 bits editing is just an illusion.
On the other hand, don't expect Adobe to introduce much more 16 editing in future PSE versions. They want you to migrate to CC.

  • 16 bit editing in PSE 8 as compared to PSE 6 (Mac)

In deciding whether to upgrade to PSE 8 from PSE 6 for Mac, I am wondering if PSE 8 allows more 16 bit file editing capability than in PSE 6, which was very limited? If so, what editing features can now be done on 16 bit files? Thanks.

Actually, I can't remember if PSE 6 allowed you to use the built-in color curves command on a 16 bit image (I don't think so), but PSE 8 does allow that.

  • PSE 7 and 64 bit Windows Vista

  • Can I Install my NIK plugins into 64 Bit PSE 13

I have been running the Nik Software sute in PSE 11 for some time. I have just upgraded to PSE 13  (64 Bit) and can not see the plugins. Does anyone know how to load them?

    Hi ,
PSE 11 was a 32 bit program while PSE 13 is 64 bit application.
you need to copy 64 bit plugin for this .
Please go to C:\Program Files\Google Or Nik \Nik Collection.
and here you will see  different plugins for 64 bit application in different folders.
Copy these 64 bit plugis and paste it to
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\Plug-Ins

  • File incompatibility PSE 7

I was working on a file not three days ago on PSE 7.0 (and a bit on Gimp 2.6.10 for the pen tool). I attempted to open it up again and received the message "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." Switching back between Gimp and PSE has never given me problems before, and Gimp is giving me similar messages regardless. Does anyone have a solution? I would hate to lose the hours of work I've invested in this project.

What is the file-type of the the file that you are trying to open?
Have you right clicked on the file, and in the dialog that comes up, selected from  "open with.." ?

  • Camera RAW 5.6 Update - OK for PSE 7.0?

    Is the
Camera RAW 5.6 update suitable for Elements, specifically say PSE 7.0 onwards?

Indeed it is different. But it appears to work fine in PSE 8.
The method I used below is for a manual install of ACR 5.6 for PSE 8 running on 64-bit system.
If you are running on a 32-bit system and/or are using PSE 7, it will probably be  a bit different.
1 After unzipping the ACR 5.6 download file, navigate to the
\Adobe Camera Raw 5.6\extensions\AdobeCameraRaw5.0All-xxxxxxxxxx\Assets” folder (ie, the top folder, not the x64 folder)
    2. Copy the 1003 file to a new folder and rename it “Camera Raw.8bi”
    3. Navigate to the “Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats” folder. Move the Camera Raw.8bi file to another folder for safe keeping.
    4. Move the file you created in step 2 into the folder listed in step 3.
    5. Return to the ACR 5.6 folder and navigate to the \Adobe Camera Raw 5.6\extensions\AdobeCameraRaw5.0All-x64-xxxxxxxxxx\Assets” folder.
    6. Copy the 1003 file to another new folder and rename it “Camera Raw.8bi”
    7. Navigate to the “Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats” folder. If there exists a Camera Raw.8bi file, save/move it as in step 3 above.
    8. Move the file you created in step 6 into the folder listed in step 7.
When you open a .cr2 file in PSE 8, you will be greeted with a notice stating that you are using a beta version of ACR.
Nothing like a straight forward install  :-)

  • How can I set External Editor to PSE, Jpeg files?

I'm recovering from a hard drive failure, and now that I've re-installed Lightroom 4 and PSE 12, I can't get LIghtroom to send high quality JPEG files to PSE.  The two options are TIFF and PSD.  I tried manually setting the external editor to PSE.exe, which gives me JPEG files, but they show up in PSE at very low resolution, even though the resolution is set to 240 in Perferences.  I'm exporting at 8 bit, since PSE doesn't work well with 16 bit.  Before the crash, I could send over high resolution JPEG files, so I know it's possible.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for that. Yes I got it to work but had to select Photoshop first. At which point I got a message that it was already the default editor; so I clicked choose anyway and got the jpeg option. I then switched to the PSE editor app and sure enough jpeg remained as a choice. Maybe the OP needs to switch apps and then re-select the PSE editor app. A bit odd really, even the difference between Photoshop as the default and Photoshhop as the additional choice!
Worked first time on Mac and LR5 without any messing about.

  • Why won't the Flickr uploader PSE 8 work right on Vista or Windows 7?

I used to upload photos using PSE 6 to Flickr on Windows XP machine all the time w/o problems. Recently after buying a new computer, PSE 8, and Vista 64 bit I get a message that says there is a problem. I more recently upgraded to Windows 7, 64 bit, same issue.
As far as I can tell there is no Firewall issue as everything else works fine and sometimes on picture will upload, but not more than one. Does anyone know of a setting I need to look at?
    Thanks
    Jim

    Hi,
Can you please try lowering the Security Settings in Internet Explorer? Go to Tools -> Internet Explorer -> Security Tab. Lower the settings and click Apply and then OK. Relaunch Organizer and try the workflow again.
Also, please recheck that the Windows Firewall is turned off.
    Thanks,

  • 16 bit color in PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS

I get an Error when using some of my tools (example: Healing Brush) in FULL EDIT  that states that "16 bit color not supported .  Convert to 8 bit color?"
Will Photshop 9 work with 16 bit color?  Considering most cameras esp. DSLR's and scanners now use 16 bit color I hope so.

Some features of PSE will work on 16 bit images, other features of PSE will not work on 16 bit images and you have to convert the image to 8 bits. I don't have PSE9, but it is my understanding that if a feature didn't work on 16 bit images in earlier versions, it won't work on 16 bit images in the current version (PSE9).

  • I have Wacom Intuos 4, and for some reason pen pressure isn't working with PSE 10

I can still use wacom tablet pen to draw in Photoshop Elements 10, but I am frustrated because I could not get lines thinner and thicker with more pressure I apply with the pen like I could with Photoshop Elements 7 - and I had already checked "size"  in the tablet setting in PSE 10.  I also made sure I set up my Wacom Tablet Properties to apply to Photoshop Elements 10, and I still can't vary the lines like I want.   Any suggestions?  (also, could it be because I unwittingly bought and installed  34 bits PSE 10 in my 64-bit computer with Window 7  - is that what is preventing PSE 10 from making lines thin and thick with pen pressure?)
    Thanks for your help.

photodrawken, I went to Wacom website and looked up the latest driver.  I see Driver 4.60 for Windows -- will that work on my 64 Windows 7?   (The information didn't mention which Windows, but did warned not to install it on Window Vista 64.)

  • Does Elements 12 support 32 bit images in a 64 bit OS?

Does Elements 12 support 32 bit images in a 64 bit OS?

Yes.  It makes no difference how your image was created - on 64 bit
software or 32 bit software.  It is still a document and so it should
load on any system running any photo-editing software.
PSE is still a 32 bit software for windows;  Nobody knows when will 64
    bit version come out.

  • I cannot load plug ins into pse 13 like I did with pse 11.

I have tried taking the plug ins from pse 11 and installing in pse 13 but cannot get them to work, your help will be appreciated.

PSE 11 was a 32-bit program and PSE 13 is 64 bits unless you are running a 32 bit version of windows, so most likely you need to check for updated versions of your plugins, since those should be 64 bits as well.
