PSE 7 background

Dear experts,
I use pse 7 and the all background (the working area) is black in color,
How to change it to another color?
thanks

Both the editor and the organizer have a slider in their preferences that will let you lighten it, but it's still pretty low-contrast, no matter where you set it.

  • How do you Whiten an off-white background in PSE (pic of a person with a shadow)?

I have PSE10 on my PC. I use it to edit photos I take of people in a studio set up with a white background and white vinyl on the floor.
Currently I whiten the BG and floor by, 1) using a Levels layer (to darken the image) and then 2) apply the Dodge tool (set to highlights) to the original image.
It is good (a bit time consuming) but when I get to the shadow of a person I don't know how to edit the shadow of the person. If I leave the shadow alone, the photo then looks odd!! Currently I use the Dodge tool (set to Shadows at about 75%) and go over the shadow to lighten it a bit which seems okay but I wanted a method from someone that was familiar with editing studio pics of people...ideally something that was a guided/automatic edit but any manual method would do.
    2 examples I have seen thus far are;
Using Curves in CS to whiten the background (which is quick and easy and automatically lightens the shadows of the subject to provide a natural look) but only 'Colour' Curves is available in PSE and I am not sure if this will do the same job?
Using Set White Point in Levels and then use the mask and paint brush to paint the subject back in but I am not sure of every step and don’t know how well this works and if it is of any use when it come to the shadow of a person?
Please provide a step by step guide on your method of doing this.
    Thanks in advance :-)

    Have you tried Enhance...Adjust Lighting...Shadows/Highlights?

  • Background folder (library?) in PSE 8.0

Could someone tell me what menu or function is used to access the images in the folder  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Photo Creations\backgrounds ?
Since PSE 8 populated this folder with a library of so many stock images/backgrounds, I assume that there must be a function in PSE that uses them for some purpose. (but I sure can't find it!).
    Thanks,
    Barober

I believe that those Image files are basically Clip Art, stock photos and similar, for use in PSE, but as John mentions, the folk in the PSE Forum can verify that, as I only use Photoshop (PSE's "big brother"), so I am guessing here.
    Good luck,

  • How to round picture corners in PSE 9.0 without background showing

    Hi,
I'm new to PSE 9.0, I'm trying to round the corners of some picture to put on my web site.
I've followed the directions I can find online but none of them work, or there for earlier versions that don't have the same functions that they show.
I can get an outline of the picture with the rounded corners showing but it never removes the sharp corners from outside the rounded rectangle.
When I save the picture as a copy in .PNG , then call it back up there are still sharp corners shown as a background>
I can't believe Adobe could make this simple thing so darned confusing!
Adobe makes good software but there ease of use is horrible.
Can someone please give me step by step how to do this?
Been at it for 4 hours.
    Thanks Mitch (mad1015)

You can use the Rounded Rectangle tool.
    1. Select the rounded rectangle tool and draw a rectangle, then move the rectangle layer
       below your picture.
    2. Make the picture layer active and go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask.
    3. Make the shape layer active and select the move tool to adjust the size of the rectangle.
    4. Go to File>Save for Web and select png 24 and check Transparency.
    Added
In step 1 set the radius of the rouned corners in the tool options bar.

  • PSE 7 - Layer Styles don't show on white background?

    Hello!
I've encountered some odd, but repeatable, situations with PSE 7's Layer Styles. If you have a white background, add a layer to that and then apply the Layer Style (like "Blue Ghost," "Heavy Noisy," "Noisy," "Radioactive," and others) you do not see the Layer Style.
However, the layer is marked with the "fx" symbol. And...what really surprised me is that if I change the color of my background layer to anything but white, they then show up! Note that things like "Radioactive" is a bright green edging layer styleit should easily show up on white. And my layer that has the layer style applied to it is above the background layer and visible. The picture part of the layer is quite visible, but the layer style is not as long as the background layer is white.
I think this is a glitch/bug...but it's odd, because it's not there in PSE 6 and I can't imagine why Adobe would change this in PSE 7...and as far as I know there is no "new" feature associated with Layer Styles in PSE 7.
If anyone has any other information on this or a work-around, I'd be most interested in hearing about it.
    Thank you!

    Beverly,
I can't imagine that another Beverly Schulz would be posting to this forum other than the one that teaches for ed2go. Since your name popped up here I want to take the opportunity to say that I took PSE5 Advanced and it was the best ever online class I have taken. The knowledge has served me well and I still refer to my notes.
I hope someone can solve your problem. I am now working in PSE7 and am interested in the responses.
    Best of luck.

  • PSE 7 Black Background

I am trying PSE 7 the trial version for 30 days. The background is black with white printing for the menus. Is this normal or can the background be chaned to a more pleasing color?  Thanks

There is a color slider preference in Edit>Prefrences>General. You can control UI brightness and grid brightness accordingly.

  • Pse 11 organiser view screen background colour

Am I able to change the background colour of the view screen in PSE 11 organiser?  The current background is grey, which isn't a great colour to optimise viewing images.  Black would be better.

You can only do it in the Editor within a tab or floating window. Right click on any gray area surrounding an open image.

  • PSE how to have photo automatically resize the a 12 X 12 background document

I was told that when you drag a photo onto a 12x12 document it will automatically resize to the 12 x 12. When I do it in PSE the photo is small...and asking me to transform it. Is this different within these two programs or is there a work around in PSE. I had a friend try it in her photoshop program and the image wasn't distorted at all...Didn't appear huge, like if I transform it.

Both are set at 300....it's a very small picture... 4x3 my online friend uses CS5 and said it automatically changed it to the 12x12 blank document when she dragged it on...I did that but it gets very large and blurry...I studied about smart objects and used place to open photo and then tried to resize it....she clipped a mask watercolor underneath to give it emphasis... she then tilted the whole picture.she's out of town for the moment...I was trying to figure out what she did...for the life of me I can't get mine to resize to the 12 x 12....it expands larger than hers when I try.

When an image is added to a document, the incoming image is scaled to the resolution of the target document.  Make sure the resolution is the same for both, or simply use the Move tool on the pasted image to resize it to suit.  The incoming photo is never resized automatically to the target document's dimension. • Access to bonus backgrounds, graphics, etc in Adobe PSE 7?

How can I gain access to bonus backgrounds, graphics, etc in Adobe PSE 7 if Photoshop.com services have been shut down? I have been using the bonus backgrounds and such from Photoshop.com for several years to design Christmas cards for my photography clients. Now, my Photoshop.com membership doesn't exist, so I can't use those backgrounds and graphics. Is there a way to go around this or to gain access to those bonus items?

Any that you have already used are on your computer--you only have to download them the first time you use them. If you haven't already downloaded them, then yes, you're right--they're no longer available.

  • Pse 10 change background colour in organizer

    Hi pse-experts,
as a user of pse 6 I 'm used to work with darkgrey background in the organizer.
This works perfectly for quickly assessing brightness and contrast of pictures.
In pse 10 however I could not find any button to change the preset lightgrey background colour to darkgrey.
Has anyone an idea in order to do this ?
    Thanks for your support, Frank

Right click in the middle of the edit window.
But you must right-click next to an open image or in the gray space in a floating window. I often choose a black background.

  • PSE remains active in background after exit. How can I stop the program completely?

PSE remains active in background after exit. How can I stop the program completely?
Is there any command line option to force PSE to stop completely after exiting the GUI?
Opening the Windows Task Manager and killing the PSE process is not a solution!
(Context: I want to start PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe from another program with an image filename as command line argument. This other program waits in background until PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe has finished and pops up again after that. Since PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe continues to run silently in background, the other program will never come back.)

Hi - having the same problem with PSE process not ending on exit. Have you had any luck in resolving the issue?
Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

  • I bought PSE for one reason. . to standardize background colors of my product pictures

    Hi Everyone,
I just bought and installed PSE on my pc for one reason. I retail fine and costume jewelry and gift items on my website. I am currently having a new site built for me and I want to have all the product pictures showing on my site with a standardized color background as opposed to whatever color I scan the item with in it's original background color. The product pictures come from several sources (mfg websites, catalog scans, etc.)and my site is cheapened by the array of too many different (and distracting) background colors showing at once. My webmaster told me PSE would allow me to do this.
All I need to do is remove the existing background color of each picture and add a standard color of choice. As I have hundreds of items/product pieces, I need a quick and effective way of making this change YESTERDAY.  I have read so many tutorials, but they are not making the jewelry pieces look "real" much less elegant.
I am attaching a sample of the types of pictures I am working with. Can anyone help me accomplish this quickly, easily and professionally???

It's a manual edit. I don't know of any way around it. I've never seen ANY photo software that has an auto-background setting for imported pictures.
You could try getafreelancer.com and see if they have anyone who can do this for you. Most of the people there work cheap and they are no slouches when it comes to getting things done in a hurry.

  • Only 5 background pages available? PSE 5.0 Trial

I wanted to try PSE 5.0 out before making my purchase. One of the things that is important to me is that there be oodles of background pages and graphics to choose from. I only see five background pages. Is this because it is a trial version? If so, how can I get the true picture?

Yes, it's not clear at all what you mean. The only thing I can think of that is about that limited is the number of canned background slides in the Slideshow Editor.
Colin is correct that there is no difference between the features of the trial and the purchased program.

  • How to un-fill workspace background, PSE 8 for Mac

I just bought v. 8 for Mac, and there is no checkbox in Prefs to get rid of the 'fill workspace background', its keeping me from using v. 8, as I cannot see my desktop.
Here is a screenshot to show what is wrong,
    http://www.jcdouglass.net/images/no-yes.jpg
If you can help me get rid of this annoying thing, I will be very happy to use the new version,
    Thank you,
    Jane

    Hi Barbara,
Thank you!   Weve been struggling with this, they sure fooled me by changing the way to do it.
I would think that Fill Workspace would be better working than Application Frame, as it sure isnt a frame in my book.
But you saved the day for us, as you always do!
2 more interesting things, when I use this forum with Firefox 3.5.5 for Mac or Opera 10.10, when I click Post Message, I get an error message that there is no body to the message, but found that using Safari is the fix for that one.
And Adobe forums would not recognize my old username, email, Adobe ID #, nor my password on this new Mac. I couldnt figure that one out, as it works fine on my old Mac, but this new one, whew, I had to re-sign up. But I am the old Jane from years ago from Cape Cod.
And we have a new Yellow Lab, a girl named Lilly.
    Thank you again!
I will post the answer on our classroom forum immediatly.

  • PSE 7  Need to transparent the background of a line art logo and name

PSE7  How do I make the background transparent behind a line art logo (a lily and my name)?  There used to be a tutorial about a line art map in black and white, but I can't find it.  Thanks.

There are several ways. One way:
    1. Select>All
    2. Edit>Copy
    3. add a black color solid fill layer
    4. alt (option) click on the layer mask in the layers panel
    5. Edit>Paste (your pasting into the layer mask)
    6. Filter>adjustments>invert (invert the layer mask) Ctrl(cmd)-I
That gives your logo on transparency (the logo will be black, so if you want to change the color, you clip a color fill layer)
    transparent:
    on color:
    layers:
color changed (solid color clipped ) Layer>Create Clipping Mask
