PSE 7 Editing Problem using Photoshop CS4

I recently upgraded to PSE 7 and am totally confounded by a recurring problem using Photoshop CS4 as my editor for photos from PSE 7. When I enter Ctrl + H, Adobe Photoshop CS4 opens the photo just fine and I am able to edit without any issues. When I am done editing, I save the file, close Photoshop (or close the file) and the photo is immeditealy deleted from the directory even though it was just saved in the directory.
I recently re-installed Windows XP, PSE 7, and Photoshop CS4, and the problem continues. Any help or suggestions? I really prefer to use the Photoshop CS4 editor.

Thanks for the response. However, I don't believe the article you you referred to actually refers to the problem I'm having. It seeems more specific to thumbnails from .PSD files created in CS4.
However, the work-around you mentioned is a possibility for me as well. However, instead of overwriting the original, I can also save the edited file to another directory and copy it back to he directory once I exit PSE. This gets to be a REAL PAIN, though, when you're editing several photos at a sitting.

Problem using PS CS4 with PSE 8

I have just installed Windows 7 (64-bit) on my computer. Everything's OK except that I can no longer use Photoshop CS4 as the external editor with Elements 8. Selecting a file and clicking on 'Edit in Photoshop' opens PS but does not load the file. Have tried reinstalling both applications but this did not solve the problem.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hey John,
While installing Photoshop CS4 did you choose only to install the 64-bit flavour of the application? I believe there are some issues if you have only the 64 bit flavour installed. I believe there is an option to set the same during the installation of PS-CS4.
Can you please retry by uninstalling CS4 and installing it with both 32bit and 64bit flavours?
If you already have CS4 installed with both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours and the problem still persists for you, can you please attach the files here with which you're having trouble and I'll try them on my Win-7 (64-bit) machine.

Problem with Photoshop CS4 after migration to new Mac

I just migrated from an old Mac to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS4. Specifically, two things:
1) When I open an image in Camera Raw, I get this error:
Fatal error - missing component
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
2) When I try to save anything, it tells me it can't because of a program error.
I've looked around for a solution. Apparently I had to install Java, but that hasn't solved the issue. A couple of people mentioned that reinstalling would work for a similar problem. My problem with that is that my disk is on the other side of the world and my new macbook doesn't have a disk drive anyway. So I logged into my Adobe account hoping to see a download link for software I have licences for, but there isn't one.
So my question is firstly, whether there is a simpler solution to the errors I am getting and, if not, if there's a solution to reinstalling Photoshop CS4 without the disk.

Did you use Apple's migration tool? It misses a lot of support files, especially in the Application Support directories.
You'll have to copy those files manually, or reinstall the app.

Lr 4.1 won't "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4" properly

Using Lr 4.1 w/ Camera RAW 7.1 and Photoshop CS4 11.0.2... When I try to edit a RAW file in Ps as I always have in Lr 3.x (Right click film strip >> Edit In >> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4) I get the following message:
This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 6.7 for full compatibility. Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu. [Button options are: Render using Lightroom, Open Anyway, and Cancel.]
Render using Lr just keeps me in Lr, doesn't open Ps.
Open Anyway opens Ps, but not the image.
Using Ps >> help >> updates: says there are no updates.
But help >> About plug-in >> Camera Raw: shows it is only Version 5.7.0.213
Interestingly, if I go back to Lr and hit Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4 >> "Render using Lr" and then immediately do it again, this time clicking "Open Anyway" it actually DOES open the image in Ps. I can edit and then when I save it takes a long time to write the TIFF format (several times longer than when previously editing through Lr 3.x),
Is there a fix for this so I don't need to do multiple steps to edit from Lr to Ps? And is there a way to update the Camera Raw in Ps from 5.7.0.213 to 6.7 since Ps>>help>>updates doesn't catch it?

You are going to have to render using lightroom in order to use the latest ACR updates since you can no longer get ACR updates for PS CS4. But when you click on Render using LR, it still should open in CS4 I would think. You might be able to fix this by telling LR that you have another editing program, CS4, and then select it instead of the generic photoshop at the top of the this. But I would not think that you would have to do this.

Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4

Frustrating problem: Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4. What happens is this. When I am in PS CS4 or CS3 and run the following script it runs fine. When I am in Bridge and go to tools/photoshop/batch and run the same script it runs until it wants interaction with preference.rulerunits. How do I get it to quit doing this so I can run in batch mode? Any help is appreciated. HLower

Go to to the image I'm working on --- selected the image, the clicked on edit. When nothing happened I double clicked the image. Still elements didn't open. Then I opened the Elements editor, went back to iphoto and tried the entire process again. the photo still didn't open on Elements 13 for editing.
I have 3 Elements 13 books as well as looked on line--all my references say the exact same thing ---- iPhoto>Preferences>advanced>edit in external program>photoshop Elements
I uninstalled and reinstalled both iPhoto as well as Elements.
I spoke with application technical support. There appears to be nothing wrong with my copy of iPhoto. However there is no support from Adobe. I waited for over 1.5 hours for chat support several days ago, and finally gave up.

You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

Edit in adobe photoshop cs4 not working

I have Lightroom 2.3 & Adobe Photoshop CS4 installed.
The "edit in adobe photoshop cs4" function is not working for my RAW files (DNG). When I select "edit in adobe photoshop cs4", Photoshop is started up, but it doesn't load anything. It is working for other formats like JPG/TIF/PSD, as an -EDIT version though.
Anyone any idea? Thanks in advance!

Normally, when this happens it's because the version of Camera Raw installed with Photoshop doesn't support your camera. You haven't mentioned which camera you are using, but it's probably worthwhile downloading the latest version of Camera Raw (currently 5.3, but there's a release candidate of 5.4 available from http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Camera_Raw_5.4

Incorrectly coloured text when saving to .PDF using Photoshop CS4

I am using Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7, and have designed my own business card.
When saving to .PDF to send to printers I am finding that a small section of text is saving with a white section to it, for example out of the 3 lines of text on the card the bottom left hand corner of the & sign I have in the design is coming out white, the rest of the text is a golden colour.
I have tried searching on this forum and on google but can't seem to find anyone with my actual problem so unsure where to go.

Font / text edit problem in photoshop CS6

Hi there,
I have a strange text edit problem in Photoshop CS6 running on Mavericks.
Every time I use the text-tool in PS, write a sentence, mark it and change something like color, font size etc., the marked text vanishes.
I have to "undo" the last step and the changed text appears again.
Every time!
I have a clean installed CS6 with no plugins and no other than system fonts installed.
Everything on a new Mac Pro with OS X 10.9.5

Do you have the latest updates for photoshop cs6?
You can use Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6 to check if there are any available.
Also, if you go to Help>System Info from within photoshop cs6, you can see the Photoshop Version in the top line.
You should be on version 13.0.6
See if turning off Dictation solves the issue.
Go to System Preferences ---> Dictation and Speech -----> select OFF radio button .

Problems with Photoshop CS4

Hello everyone
I installed windows 7 64 bit and photosop cs4 32 and 64 bits.
For plugins I use photoshop 32 bit as in 64 does not recognize.
When working with photoshop 32-bit, or by applying a similar effect on photoshop I "refresh" the screen, I have to give it a click above to update the action taken, which does not happen with the 64-bit . previously when I had windows XP 32 bit, something similar is happening but unlike in Windows 7 is became more confusing to work
Looking at other forums I found that others feel the same.
I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7, but can not get photoshop to work properly.The refresh of the windows is horrible, it gives many hitches, even small images at 72 dpi. It's pretty desperate
I have a similar problem with Photoshop CS4, Windows 7 and the Gforce 9800 GTX version 196.21
The problem is that whenever I do a process, I have to click on the screen to react, is quite annoying if you retouch photos, anyone know where the problem may lie?
Example of my problem
I apply an effect to an image flash
Notice how after applying it, as is the browser and thumbnail in the layer and I obviously still displays the result on the image.
After giving up a click:
I shows the effect applied, but the display remains the same, as in the layer.
If I want to leave the viewer have to make the preview zoom.
As you will see work like this is very annoying and stressful. Any help?

Did you update PS CS4 to 11.0.1? If not update before turning off opengl or updating Nvidia drivers.
There are also new nvidia drivers out 197.13. However, newer does not always equal better.

Problems with Photoshop cs4 for the Mac

I am having all kinds of problems with Photoshop CS4 for the Mac. When I boot the software it seems to work for a while then, I am unable to open upf a file in Photoshop. I drag a photoshop file over the application icon, the whole screen flickers and nothing happens. I am unable to quit Photoshop as the quit choice is grayed out and command-q will not make it quit. I have to force quit. I can repeat this pattern over and over. What is happening? How do I solve this problem?

Thanks for the reply. I am using Photoshop 11.0.1. I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have found both Photoshop and Dreamweaver to be pretty buggy for several versions now. My suspicions were that they were really engineered for Windows and never really fully implemented for the Mac. Dreamweaver crashes or hangs on me three or four times a day if I us it all day and does various annoying things like refusing to respond to the delete key after I have used it for a while. I have pretty much stopped using it to some degree for that reason and also because there is other software that does a lot of coding things I do much more directly and simply. Also Dreamweaver always seems to struggle to quit when I tell it to quit (that is, it takes a long time and gets hung up at places before it quits) and once it does quit, I always get a message saying that it has unexpectedly quit (even when I have told it to quit).
The problems with Photoshop (starting with just taking a long time to load) have escalated to the point I described today, which makes it almost unusable. I just reinstalled Snow Leopard to see if there was anything buggy in the system software. I will report if problems go away.
Regarding both the refusal to open image files and the grayed out quit command, made me think something like you, i.e. there was some dialogue box open somewhere. However, I couldn't find anything and I don't use two monitors.
So . . . Adobe just seems to be getting more expensive and more buggy.
Incidentally, why is it still running in Rosetta rather than natively? Adobe now has a real Intel processor to work with.

Imac freeze using photoshop cs4

Hi All,
I'm really hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
When using Photoshop CS4 my imac keeps repeatedly freezing, this seems to happen whilst moving the image around.
I also get some of the same crashes using bridge. I have previously reinstalled all os and programs. I now keep my imac very clean, I only use one program at a time etc. It is driving me crazy!
I have tried CS5 and didn't like it, it also didn't agree with my machine. I have tried updating the firmware for the graphics card and it wont do it saying something is missing, I'm fearful that this could be the problem.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Tell Acrobat 9 Pro to use Photoshop CS4

I have the Creative Suite Design Premium 5 installed, for reasons I won't go into, Photoshop CS5 is a dog on my system. It's simply unusable. All other CS5 apps run fine.
Acrobat Pro 9 wants to edit images using Photoshop CS5. I'd like to be able to tell Acrobat to simply use Photoshop CS4 (since that version actually functions). Is there a pref or something somewhere I can set?
I've looked and haven't seen anything.
Am I left to simply uninstalling Photoshop CS5?
(Even though PSCS5 is currently unusable, I'm hoping an update somewhere from someone will make that $900 not wasteful.)

Issues editing Layouts using Dreamweaver CS4 (ShopOnline)

I am having Issues editing Layouts using Dreamweaver CS4 (ShopOnline). May be someone has encounter this problem. When I open the large_product.html in dreamweaver (after installing the extension for BC) the file opens, but when I go to the property inspector, I can not modify any of the css rules currently defined and no css is linked to this file. I looked at all the available css's and I could not find any with the defined rules in this page.

It must be a module template layout that is being used. If you're on the latest interface it's under
Site Manager > Module Templates > Online Shop Layouts > Individual Product (small or large)
and if you're on the older interface it's
Ecommerce > Products > Advanced Layout customization (under the “related” box at the bottom right)

I got iPhoto '11, version 9.2.3 and want to edit photos using Photoshop elements 10. I have put P'shop 10 as the preferred editor... but when I click on the photo in iPhoto the Adobe p'shop 10 program opens BUT the picture does not open for editing. Wha.
