PSE 7: Images on Network Drive

All my images are on a another machine on my network, that I access with a UNC path. The other machine is running XP just like the machine that PSE7 is installed on.
If I just use the organizer everything works fine. When I send an image to the editor to be worked on, it works great until I save the image. Then the organize will not come back. It shows as "not responding" in the task manager. What is even stranger it breaks all my network shares to the other computer. They are return "no access", until I reboot both boxes. This never happened with the earlier versions of PSE (and I have had them all).
Any ideas?
PS: the faq on how to stop the ads says the paths are different for XP. I can't find and "Messaging Pods" program only PodPlayer in application_swfs. Is that the one?

That is strange behavior. A couple of troubleshooting thoughts:
- If you run PSE 6 on the same computer with your old PSE 6 catalog, do you get the same behavior? If so, then the problem is independent of PSE 7.
- Try starting the Editor and using File > Open to open a photo on the network share. Save it back to the network share, being sure to
uncheck Include In Organizer. Does the problem occur? If it does, then the problem is with the Editor; if it doesnt, the problem is likely with the connection between the Organizer and Editor.

  • Downsizing images to network drive workflow

    Hello,
I would like to ask for a help. Trying to make Service to resize folders of images to network drive. But no version works as I would like.
    I would like:
    * there woudl be created folders of the same name in target location
    * to process one or more folders of images
    * to images were first processed then saved to target location. I do not want copy originals to target location or else.
Simply picking up folder and create downsized version on target location (Time Capsule) without any middle steps like copying files somewhere.
Is it possibel to do that with Automator or I need to use some AppleScript? I am on 10.6 for now.
    Thanks for advice.
    Frantisek

Additional information on the problem I am experiencing. If, from Lightroom, I ask that the image be processed in Photoshop, when I exit from Photoshop back to Lightroom, Photoshop saved the filename-Edit/PSD file to the network drive.
From the computer running Lightroom, the network drive is accessible, other applications, including Photoshop and read and write to it, the computer can display the network drive directory and it does not matter if the network drive is mapped to a local drive (Z:) or just as a network location in My Network Places.
I would really appreciate some idea as to what is happening and if its a bug, when and what release will fix it. Also, a date if possible. If you do quick patches for testing, please consider me a volunteer for this one :-)

  • Images Offline, NAS Drive in Finder but can't Reconnect

    Aperture 3.0.2, Mac OS 10.6.3
I have all referenced images on network drive. It's all there in the finder but aperture says it's offline. Furthermore, the reconnect button is always greyed out.
Even more odd is sometimes when I relaunch Aperture, it finds the images but they're ephemeral. (I can right-click to Show in Finder successfully once or twice then it's offline again.)
I have tried rebuilding library to no avail. I've tried copying referenced images to local drive and I still can't reconnect (greyed out) - I'm totally stumped.

I found the best articulation of the solution at MacCreate: http://aperture.maccreate.com/2008/03/01/reconnecting-images-in-aperture-2-when- moved-between-drives/
How the "Reconnect ... " dialog works is not at all obvious. In fact, it is somewhat misleading because so many of us were incensed over the apparent claim that our drives were offline.
I have come to understand that "offline", which appears in the "Status" column between the "Volume" and "Files" column does not pertain to the drive (Volume) but to the images (Files)! After successfully reconnecting Aperture to images in one particular folder of my external drive, the dialog then showed two lines for the same Volume: one showing the number of online files (the reconnected ones) and another line showing the number of offline files (not yet reconnected).
It would be clearer if the columns were labeled "Volume", "File Status", "No. of Files", but such labels would increase the column widths.

  • PSE 9 (Win7) Organizer won't "copy" when adding images from network

First, bringing images into PSE 9 Organizer works as expected from cameras, memory cards, etc. The file is copied from the original source onto the drive with the catalog.
But, I simply cannot get a file "copied" from its original location when bringing it into the PSE 9 catalog under Windows 7 (64-bit) if the source location is on another computer "seen" via Windows Homegroup network.
I do the following from the Organizer:
    1) File-Get Photos and Videos-From Files and Folders
    2) I browse to the Homegroup folder that has the file, and highlight it. (By the way, it takes several attempts of moving the mouse over the file name before the preview appears and the file is actually selected.)
    3) At this point I would expect the "Copy Files on Import" option to be available, but it is greyed-out and not checkable.
    4) If I select Open or Get Media, the file does go into the Organizer, but the file location is still the Homegroup network drive. As soon as the source computer is off-line, the Organizer link is lost, and I can't use the file.
Why is the "Copy Files on Import" option never available??
    Here's what it looks like:

What I am trying to do is to use Organizer to centralize, on one hard drive, images from various other computers in my Windows 7 Homegroup that may or may not be on when I need the images. A thumbnail in the Organizer that points to an offline source is not terribly useful.
My problem could be fixed, as well as the overall usefulness of Organizer improved, by the simple enabling of the copy option even when another harddrive or network drive is the source. In this way, both the "always-on" and "never-on" situations could be accommodated.
My solution was to copy the files in question to an SD card, walk the card over to my main computer, and then bring them into the catalog (which actually copies the files to the hard drive, which was my objective in the first place).

Hello i am using TimeMachine to back-up entire Mac image (data + system) on an usb-local drive. I would like (on top of it) add a specific plan to back up some files on a remote network drive. Does TimeMachine support multiple back-up plans ? How ?

Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.

  • System Image Recovery from Network Drive - not found

    Hello all!
I have been routinely backuping my OS and important files using Windows 7 backup on a NAS. It just so happened that I needed to re-image my OS drive and I got into the Windows 8 recovery boot sequence.
I booted from a windows 8 USB stick and Under the Advanced tools I selected the System Image Recovery and tried to look for the system image on the network path. Although the prompt said it was connecting to the network , the network share was
not found. the command prompt couldn't ping google.com and netsh wlan <SSID> command did not work in hopes of connecting to my local wifi.
Is there a way to connect to the wifi network where my NAS is connected to in order to re-image from the system image found on the NAS? Luckily , there was an older image on a separate local HDD that I could re-image from but I would prefer if
I could connect to the NAS during the recovery process.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
First, I have to say that in WinRE, http and wifi is not supported, that's why you cannot ping google and connect to wifi.
To access NAS, we have to make sure that your network connection is wired, and try to manually location the NAS via
    \\IP address\...
I will check if the Windows 7 image backup can be restored in WinRE of Windows 8, and update your soon.
    Edit:
I have tried this, and it appeared that to restore Windows 7 image backup on this computer from Windows 8 winRE is not supported.

    What's the fix?
Tried reset, restart, reboot, reopen of apps same problem

What do you mean by reboot? Do you mean restore? Because if you haven't restored, then that's the next step. You'll need a computer with the latest version of iTunes and a USB connector.

(InDesign CS5) I have created hundreds of InDesign documents incorporating images stored on an external USB connected drive. I did a manual back-up to another drive at regular intervals but far from ideal.
I now have a network drive which is properly backed-up. I have copied all of the images and folder structure from the USB connected drive to this new drive.
My question is how I get all of the links in my indd files to point to the new drive. I am aware how to do it one file at a time, but is there a way of doing the same thing over many files/folders at a time?

It depends on how you organize your work. If you have one folder for images for a document, relinking one image should alert you that other missing images are in the same folder, but this assumes that images are missing. If the links window sees a clear path to the original location of the images, they aren't missing, so that won't work.
Another thing to try is to select all of the images in the links window and go to the fly-out menu and select Relink To Folder (navigate to the new folder, and you don't even have to select any images by name).
If you store your images in many different folders for the same document, you might want to either package the document to copy all of the images into one folder (you can specify to only copy images if you like) or use the fly-out in the links window (Utilities>Copy Links To…) and select or create a new images folder.

  • Unable to save images from image preview or photoshop to network drive

    Hello,
I have an issue when viewing an image file from image preview or photoshop and saving it to a mapped network drive. When trying to save it to the drive, I am met with the error "You don't have sufficient access privileges". However, I am able to save the image to my desktop THEN place it in my mapped network drive.
This has left me pretty puzzled. Has anyone else run into this issue? It was working fine a couple of months ago, and I thought it might correct itself. The issue remains at large. I am not sure why it would stop working, but still works if I click and drag files to it.

    Your assumption is correct.
    The workflow is:
Select Image in Aperture for external editing.
Send Image to external editor via one version of Aperture's "Edit with NameOfExternalEditor" command.
Aperture creates a new Original based on the selected Image and opens specified external editor with the Original loaded.
You make changes to this file in the external editor.
You close this file and select "Save Changes" (or similar) when prompted.
You return to Aperture and find an Image based on the newly-created Original selected.  This Image shows the changes you made in the external editor.  It is badged with Aperture "Edited externally" badge.
Let's check a couple of things:
    - Are you showing all Images in the Aperture Browser?
    - Are there any externally-edited Images in the Project after you have completed editing in Photoshop?
For the first, clear any filter you have set for the Browser by clicking the dark-on-light drop-down magnifying glass icon _in_ the Browser search field and selecting "Show All".
For the second, filter for externally edited Images by clicking the dark-on-light magnifying glass icon _next to_ the Browser search field and setting a filter with the Rule "File Type" set to "is", "externally edited".
    Report back.

  • Can't download images to a network drive

EOS Rebel T2i directly connected to a PC running Windows XP. The PC shows it is connected to the camera as well as our network drive. The preferences are set to download each picture taken to the network drive. This has been the case for a couple of years and it works just fine. Now out of the blue it stopped working. There is a message "No more shot is available". If we change the setting to putting the image on the desktop then it works fine. The network drive has 30TB free space so it is nowhere near being full. We have tried going to other network drives but get the same result.

What OS runs your network server? Does the XP machine control an external drive or do you have a server machine running another OS that the XP is saving to? You may need to double check your XP "allowed" programs on your firewall settings. You haven't elaborated on what network changes occured. I'm not referring to the specific details but if permissions have changed on the network server, they may prevent you from saving the files or it is a "read-only" directory now. You may need to contact your systems admin to look up these details for you. Let us know what's going on, you got me curious

  • Can't download images to a network drive anymore

For the past several months I've been photographing with a 5D mk II with a tethered connection, downloading images to a mapped netword drive. However now EOS Utility says that "No more shot is available."  Downloading them to a folder on my laptop works, but it no longer considers the mapped drive as having any more space. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the drive, mapping it to a different drive letter, and creating a new folder on the same server to map to, all of which returned the same message in the utility.
I wonder if there's a way to reset the Utility to think it's an empty folder. There's a similar Rebel topic with no solution, and a clean install (registry and all) didn't work for that user.
    Firmware is 2.1.2
    EOS Utility is v. 2.14.0.0
    Windows 7

IIRC, the first several versions of DPP wouldn't talk to network drives either. The more things change, the more they stay the same. (Or go back to the way they were.)

  • Error message when mapping to a network drive of a DFS share on Windows 7

    Hi,
We are getting the following error when mapping to a network drive of a DFS share on Windows 7:
“The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred:
A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated."
In our case, the user logs on his workstation using his regular domain account, then maps to the network DFS share using the service account of an application.
There is a fix from Microsoft (MS KB968264). But this fix requires disabling the "Network access: Do not allow storage of credentials or .NET Passports for network authentication” property. This is against the Microsoft own best practices (Network access:
“Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication” should be set to
ENABLED), and is NOT acceptable for us for obvious security reasons.
Question: Does anyone know an alternative fix to this issue that does not introduce security risks?
    Thank you in advance!
    Mdjona

Again I have tried this, but in my program if I try to save to the a drive when no disk is inserted, the JOptionPane i want to display is not coming up.
    the system prints out
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: A:\image.jpg <The device is not ready>
If that makes any sense to you

  • Trying to watch on a folder on an network drive

I store all of my photos on a netwrok drive so that everybody can acccess them.  Genrally the photos are imported and put up there by my wife using picassa on her laptop.  I am trying to watch this folder and find that PSE 10 organiser will not retain the watched folder.
I have the folder on the network drive mapped to S: on my computer when I try and watch this folder it seems to add it then tells me the path cannot be found.  So I use the nework location to put the watch folder in and it happily accepts it then when I close down organiser and repopen it the watch folder has dissappeared.
    Any ideas?

Thanks looks like it may have worked.
I forgot to mention before that I lost the watched folder when I put the laptop in standby or rebooted.  Tried it after standby and the watched folder was there although unusally it took three or four attempts to open organiser! The selection screen came up selected organiser and rather than the bar changing and then opening the selection screen just disappeared and had to reopen it
Will keep an eye on it and let you know
    Thanks
