PSE 7 Multipage Wall Calendar

I have just upgraded from PSE2 to PSE 7 (love the new version, by the way) and need to create a multi-page wall Calendar (scrap book style pictures - ie many photos on a page) and wondered if anyone had some pearls of wisdom.
This is where I am at:
1) The nice and quick Calendar feature from my friends earlier versions seems to have now gone is PSE 7 and it was not yet in PSE 2........!!!
2) I have created a single page (ie back cover - horizontal 8x10) with all months and summary of the pics that looks pretty cool as a single psd file.
3) I am starting to do each month as a single PSD file (as a work around), but feel there must be a better way than to have 24 files for the one project (ie 12 picture pages and 12 date pages)
Any assitance on finding a nice template, plug-in etc that will allow me to "flip/turn" the pages as in a photobook would be appreciated?
Solution I have thought about is to paste each of my completed psd'd into a photobook, but in portrait mode - but cannot find how to turn the entire project around, ie to let the book hand like a calendar.

Wall calendar with Photoshop Elements 8?

At present I am using Photoshop Elements 8 and would like to create a wall calendar 2015. Are there in addition calendar templates for the year 2015, with which one can arrange easy into a photo calendar?

In the browser window where you see all of your photos highlight those you want to place in an album (click on the first and hold down shift and click on the last) then drag the album icon from the left panel to one of the selected photos and it will place them all in the album.

I'm trying to create a family wall calendar in iCal. It would have 6 vertical columns: weekday, date, and 4 names along with 31 horizontal rows for events to be written in for each family member.
How can I format this? Is iCal the wrong tool for the job? Recommendations?

How do I make my calendar look like a calendar and not a list!

My calendar is a list...I want it to look like a wall calendar.
I switched from Entourage to mail and can not figure out how to change the way the calendar displays.

I guess you answered my question...although I am very dissapointed.
If I switch to Mail then I'll also have to run iCal and deal with two applications instead of one. Not to mention the fact that I can't get iCal to automatically update past calendar appointments all at one time.
I never thought I would admit that microsoft did a better job than Apple (man, it hurts to say that). I guess it's back to Entourage for me until they come to their senses and combine them into one smooth running MAC product.

Flex Calendar

I have created a flex app for use by the employees of our company. There are 60 employees and we are all shift workers with various rotations of work days. In the application, an employees logs in and a datagrid appears. Inside the datagrid is a cell for each day of the year and this is populated through actionscript with the employees work schedule for the year. A rotation is placed in the database of 6 days on and 4 days off, for example, and this is displayed in the datagrid based on the start date of the rotation. So if a employees starts their cycle on January 1, the dates January 1-6 will show "WORKING" in the datagrid, then January 7-10 will be blank (days off), then January 11-16 will show "WORKING" and so on.
What I want to try in to produce an annual calendar view, similar to any paper wall calendar. It will appear with the 12 months arranged in a grid type fashion. For each day that is a "WORKING" day, I want to highlight it somehow (color, for example). This way, an employee can look at this calendar view and quickly see that he is working on December 25th without having to scroll all the way through a datagrid.
I hope I explained that succintly!
Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Since the actionscript already can produce the days of work and rest, it is just a matter of displaying the working days in a grid type calendar rather than a list based datagrid. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do it.

Building the Flextras Calendar took 11 months; and it was my primary project during that time. I'm told we're pretty close to the iLog Calendar conceptually, but it isn't the same. Our focus was not on duplicating Outlook / Google Calendar. It was on providing an extensible base where developers could build anything. Every 'visual' piece of our Calendar has a renderer associated with it, which gives the developer complete control.
Generally, I assume a developer, with a single use case could build a knock off in 1/4 of the time. It wouldn't be as extensible or documented as ours is; but if it's for a single uise / specific app it would work fine and be taylored to their specific needs.
It sounds like the the original poster doesn't need all the functionality of the Flextras Calendar or the iLog Calendar. He just needs a month view that displays 12 months and highlights the color of specific days. I bet something could be created in <2 weeks easy. I could probably create a mockup using the Flextras Calendar in a couple of hours. I already have a prototype where three Calendars act like a single unit; creating one where 12 act as a single unit won't be much different.

Can I make a calendar in iPhoto '09 using my Aperture 3.0 library?

I've just doanloaded a trial of Aperture 3 and am generally very impressed. I decided I wanted to make a wall calendar, which is not supported but it says somewhere you can work from your Aperture library from within iPhoto. Is this only supported in iPhoto 11, or in 09 too? (I only have iPhoto 09)
When I click on the 'Show Aperture Library' in iPhoto, I get the popup with 'loading images' but nothign actually happens?
Can anyone advise? If I cna't use iPhoto to make teh calendar is there a way of easily getting out my chosen images from Aperture?

I don't really know. Make sure you have turned on "Share Previews with iWork and iLife". This is found at "Aperture→Preferences→Previews".
My suggestion, however, is that you upgrade to the most recent version of iPhoto. The upgrade is $15 US at the App Store -- this seems worth it alone for a calendar. The most recent upgrade should provide much better integration with other Apple products.
It is always easy to "get your Images out of Aperture". Select the Images that you want to use with other programs, and run "File→Export Versions". You will be presented with a dialog box from which you select an Export Preset. The Preset determines the settings used to create your new files. These Presets can be seen and edited via "Aperture→Presets→Image Export".

Pointers needed to create a JSP for week/hour calendar type component

I am looking to get some pointers on how to create week/hour calendar type component in JSP.
My application is JSP/struts2 based web application. I need to create a web page where users will see a week hour calendar and for any time slot will enter some information. Each time slot can have different information. For example: Sunday 9:30am to 10:00am - Click on this cell and pop up a dialog for info and save it without refreshing the page. At the end combine all this info for each slot and submit to the server.
If there is already a component like this is available to use, please point me to that.

I dont know of an already existing application that can do this. However, here are some ideas on creating your own:
Create an html table in JSP who's number of rows and columns match what you would find in an ordinary wall calendar for the given month and year. Use the Calander.java class to obtain the number of days in the current month and build the JSP page accordingly (Calendar.java should automatically take care of leap year). You will probably need to add 'next' and 'previous' buttons to the form to retrieve the previous and next month(s) in case the user wants to access previous or future months. Each cell in the table displays that day (example ' 28 '). Notice my convention the first column is usually 'Sunday'.
Next, determine what to put in each cell. One suggestion is to embed a table in each cell with 48 rows (24 hours in a day, 1/2 hour resolution= =48), and two columns (first column is for time: example: "10:30am to 11:00am", the second column is for the user's appointment message).
Above that embedded table is the day (example: '28'). If a user has no information in the embedded table, the outer cell will appear to have nothing but the '28' in it.
Next, how to populate the cell. When the user clicks on the cell, have an onclick event call a javascript function. The function will pop up a new window (a child window) by calling 'window.open( )' (google 'window.open'). In the pop up, show a table with 48 rows, 2 columns that the user can type in a message within column 2. When the user clicks 'submit' button on the pop up, call a javascript onclick function that reads all the message cells. Any cell not empty will populate the corresponding cell (day, rowID, columnID) back on the parent window by calling something like this: window.opener.document.myFormName.myTextField.value = someValue
(google 'window.opener'). Once this is done, close the child window from that javascript function. By calling 'window.opener', you dont have to refresh the parent window.
Next, if the user clicks on the parent window cell that is already populated, you will have to pass all theexisting information for that day through the window.open( ) to the child window so the pop up child window will show that preexisting information (that way he can add to the cell or alter it as he pleases).
Next, after he alters many days on the calender, you have to provide an 'update' button on the parent form so the user saves his changes (write the data to a database record, with his name attached to that record). Note: if he clicks the previous/next button, he will lose any changes unless you also save the information before going to the previous/next page.
Next, you might want to provide a vertical scroll bar on the table cell if
the end user has many messages that cant be viewed in the parent cell all at once. Note each cell should be a fixed number of pixels width/height so it shows correctly. Have Fun!

This will create a jpg of each page of the calendar and save it to a new album in iPhoto. Then print each page to 20x20 stock with the following print settings: Paper size: 20x20 border; Print size: Borderless.
If your printer doesn't support that size borderless and you don't want a border around each page then try Old Toad's Tutorial #8 - Printing a iPhoto Greeting Card. This requires an image editor that supports layers.

What has a crash of Lightning (calendar) done to my Thunderbird?

For quite some time I've been using Thunderbird with the Lightning add-on which I've come to rely on. Yesterday I tried to edit an event/reminder by changing the date of it to one day sooner, but when I clicked to save it, Thunderbird hanged completely and continued to hang every time I tried to open it. The only way I've been able to get Thunderbird opening again has been by removing Lightning. Even when I re-add it, Thunderbird goes back to "not responding" until I remove it again. I wonder whether anyone else has experienced anything like this, or if anyone can shed some light. Thx.

I don't know from calendar sorts at all. After I added Lightning there was a little icon up on the tool bar that looked like an old fashioned, desktop date calendar. When I'd click that it would open like a wall calendar displaying the entire current month. It had a corresponding tab. When I'd close the tab and the calendar would close. I never selected, added or saw any other calender, so I don't know how to say what sort it was. As far as I knew, it was the calendar whose icon appeared on the toolbar after I added Lightning. Now, of course, I wish I could take a close look and identify it, but if I add it again Thunderbird completely and hopelessly hangs.

Year-at-a-glance View in iCal

Once again, I am filling out next year's year-at-a-glance wall calendar and wish I had this view in iCal. With today's screens, a year-at-a-glance view shouldn't be difficult to implement and would be very useful. My favorite layout has 12 rows (one for each month, January at the top) and blocks for each day running from left to right with weekends shaded. When is Apple going to improve iCal? or at least enable others to make such improvements?

I can't believe this, I finally get round to organizing myself and ical doesn't do a year view.
I have hunted online for some way to make this happen and have ended up making a pdf of a printout to be able to see it.
This can only be a temp solution, as my diary changes a lot and printing/pdf is not very elegant or efficient or even that easy to read quickly.
In my online search I have found posts requesting this as far back as 2003, and 6 years is to long to wait for something that surely must be such a simple solution.
I'm also stunned by the lack of plugin/widget/app solutions from 3rd party developers, I would definitely pay a a buck or 2 for something to let me do this well within ical,
And If I want it you can be sure there are at least another 100,000 who would also pay, maybe we could get the guy who wrote the ifart app for iphone to write it for us, about 2000 people a day were buying that at 99 cents a pop in the run up to christmas.
Apple should embarrassed by this.
If anyone knows the solution please post it.

How to show whole year in iCal

iCal is configured to shoe day, week and month but can one get iCal to show a whole year, like a wall calendar. If not then perhaps there is some add on software that will do this?

Aside from the fact that it takes third party software (no longer available) to do this, I don't really see what the need would be. Time, date and month change often enough that the would be necessary to keep up with but the year? Every 365 days?
Besides, you can click the time in the menu bar and it will show you the year.

Is there a way to view multiple months simultaneously?

Is there any way that iCal can allow multiple months to be viewed simultaneously (similar to a year or multi-month wall calendar?).
(Or even a, gulp, third party piece of software?)

Overset Text In InDesign

I've created a wall calendar in InDesign. In preflight, there are 80 errors, all overset text. Does this mean that the overset text just won't show up in print? Because if that's the case, I don't need it anyway. So would I need to delete it or deal with it at all if I don't need it printed? Thank you for any help. I'm still learning.

However, I always delete overset text, to avoid confusion and to be safe that
a third party person/print company opening the document won't be confused.

This has worked well for me for the past two years, when I was using a version of Numbers from one of the iWork suites, but during the past year, I upgraded to what is now Numbers 3.1. I need to make some adjustments to cells and sheets that are normally not the topmost cells, and in the past, I seem to recall that I could access the appropriate sheet by clicking the appropriate value of a hierarchical listing of sheets that ran down the left side of the display. I don't see this in Numbers 3.1, and though I can bring cells and sheets to the top for editing by selecting the cells / sheets that currently are above the one I want to edit and moving them either "Backward" or "Back", I'm getting lost because I have no visual way to determine what the current layering is. Is there any way to activate the left-side hierarchical display that existed in the previous version of Numbers, or at least to display the named sheets in my speadsheet so I can select specific ones by name?

You say you "upgraded". Does that mean iWork '09 was on the computer before? If so, then it is still there. Upgrading to Numbers 3.1 does not remove Numbers 2.3. I guess they knew people might want to still use the old version.
