PSE 7 Pen pressure problem

I have been using a Bamboo tablet and PSE 7 with no problems until recently. I just purchased and set up a Cintiq 21ux DTK2100 as a secondary monitor. I updated the latest driver directly from Wacom. Now when I use PSE, pen pressure wont work the way that it used to on the line thickness. The pressure I put on the pen will vary the opacity of my lines but not the thickness of the line even though I have Size and Opacity checked off. What do I have to do? Please help.

I'll continue trying different drivers, but it looks like this is a Photoshop issue to me.
Clearly, the tablet doesn't lose sensitivity when I'm working in either Adobe Flash or Paint Tool SAI.  I've sadly had to turn to Paint Tool SAI to work around this problem.  I'd much prefer to use Photoshop, with which I have the bulk of my experience.  I purchased Photoshop CS5 for my Mac.
Since my Mac has been starting to give me trouble, I've been working on my PC.  I was hoping to upgrade my version of Photoshop, but if this product isn't going to work the way it should, I'm just not going to purchase it.
I understand this is frustrating, but, from my perspective it's clearly an issue inherent to Photoshop.  My tablet drivers work fine in other programs that use pressure sensitivity.  The artifacting seems above only occurs in Photoshop.
Is there a way I could try previous versions of Photoshop in order to see if, perhaps, it's CS6 that doesn't like my tablet?
Again, I'm sorry if I sound critical, but I'm frustrated.  Just really want Photoshop to behave like it should.
Thanks again Chris,
~Rob

  • Photoshop CC on Sony's Vaoi Fit15A (pen pressure problems)

This question is very specific. I just downloaded the trial version of Photoshop CC on a new Vaoi Fit15A. It's like a hybrid between a tablet so I can supposedly draw on the screen directly. (So I don't have a pen tablet.) My problem is it doesn't register the pen pressure. I also tried borrowing a wacom bamboo to see if it can feel that, but nope, PS CC still won't recognize the pen pressure even from a pen tab. What should I do? Thanks to anyone who can help!

Hi! Thanks so much for replying
I tried attaching a bamboo create to see if it could sense the pen pressure. Alas, it still couldn't. I already installed the drivers but it still wouldn't.
So um, just letting you know that I did take it to the store where I bought it. They told me that Adobe wasn't keeping up with something something industry-wise. Sorry I'm in Japan and my Japanese isn't that good but basically they told me that I have to wait for Adobe elements 12 (which isn't out yet) before I can hope that my Vaoi recognizes the pen pressure. So they basically told me that Vaoi fit15A, using PS CC, isn't compatible. There's no way I can get pen pressure using that program.
But is this true? Adobe is late that's why I can't get it to work in Vaoi Fit 15A ? They just didn't tell me this because they couldn't get it to work right? When is this "Adobe elements 12" suppose to come out anyway? If I can't get it to work I'll have to return the Vaoi itself since I need my pen pressure working in PS.
    Thanks for your time!!!

  • Pen pressure problems in Photoshop with the Yoga Thinkpad

    Hi!
I'm having problems with uneven pen pressure in Photoshop. When draw a few lines very sensitive some of them get's thick like it was drawn with full pressure when it actually wasn't.
I installed http://www.wacom.eu/index4.asp?pid=9278&lang=en but still having the same problem
Is there any fix to this? Is this problem related to the device, to Wacom or Windows 7?

Adobe supports any working stylus -- but your stylus may not implement all the APIs needed for applications like Photoshop.
Most likely you'll need to contact Sony and see if they have updated drivers for their stylus to support professional graphics applications.

  • CS4 and pen pressure problem

When drawing with the brush or the clone stamp brush now and then strokes are drawn at full pressure even though that is not the case. The next strokes are ok again for a while and then again... a few strokes like they there was no pen pressure. Very annoying when retouching masks.
I already installed the latest Wacom driver but no joy.
    What else could I try?
My graphics card doesn't have OpenGL capacities so I don't think that's the problem or could it?
Also CS4 is much slower than CS3 in updating the screen. Related?
    Tips welcome...
I am a long time user of Photoshop (since 2.5) but I think CS4 will be the first upgrade I will skip although I love the new adjustments and masks panels...
Windows XP Pro, 4 Gigs of Ram, Matrox Millenium card, plenty of sratch disk space.

I had exactly the same problem with my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.
The solution is to go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Device Manager>Human Interface Devices and disable Wacom Virtual Hid Driver.
I found that somewhere on the Wacom site and it does it for me.
I'm not sure but I think it started when I updated the Wacom drivers to try and solve another problem.
Can I ask, if you press CNTRL-ALT-DEL to start task manager, does that disable your pen until you select the Task Manager button? That came with the latest driver too.

  • Pen pressure not working. Tried everything.

Tried techniques in both Adobe and Corel.
Any suggestions on how to get the pen pressure to work would be greatly appreciated!

Notably Wacom has *just* released a new driver for their tablets to correct pen pressure issues, and at least one person has reported that it has corrected pen pressure problems.
I haven't read too carefully here, and I don't know if their driver could help you directly.  I just mentioned it because you said you saw Wacom people reporting problems too.

  • Erratic pen pressure with Wacom Intuos 3 in CS4

Very light paint strokes on my Wacom Intuos 3 produce a full force stroke in CS4 every 3 to 15 strokes.  Anybody else have this problem?
This does not happen with CS2.  Also, using the Wacom diagnostics, I can make endless light strokes and never see the pressure go above 16%.
I'm using CS4 11.0.1, Wacom driver 6.1.1-3, Nvidia GeForce 6800 with drivers updated 8/10/2009, Windows XP.
    Thanks,
    -Rob

Wacom has just released a new driver version that some say has cleared up the pen pressure problems:
    http://www.wacom.com/en/CustomerCare/Drivers.aspx?model=Intuos3&os=Windows+7
EDIT:  I no longer see the June 2011 driver on that site.  It was there earlier today!

  • Problem With Cintiq Pen Pressure in CS5

    Hey folks,
When using my Cintiq 12WX (using the latest drivers) on the CS5 I've found a strange quirk pops-up every now and then: sometimes it doesn't recognize/register the pen pressure and it goes from a thin line to solid flat line randomly. Like if one was using a mouse. I've searched the net to see whether this is an issue with the cintiq; the drivers for it; photoshop CS5 or any combination thereof and to see if there's a solution.
Unfortunately, all I've been able to find is that the issue most likely resides with CS5 and that there isn't any real solution. Here's a link to the wacom forums of a fellow who's dealing with the very same problem: http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5606
I hope that by inquiring here, on the adobe forums, that perhaps a solution can still be found. Perhaps someone here has dealt with this and has found a fix? Of course, if there isn't any fix to be found I also hope that perhaps this can com  to th attention of those working on photoshop itself and that a fix can eventually be cooked up.
    Thanks!

As far as we are aware, the problem is in the Wacom driver code.
Please check with Wacom for updates.

  • Disable tablet pen pressure for eraser tool in PSE 10?

Hi, I recently bought PSE 10.
I have an Intuos 3 Wacom tablet and whenever I switch to the Eraser tool, in the brush preview icon (top left corner) I see this ~ type of a shape with narrow-pointy edges, indicating that the size-pen-pressure feature is on.
This is always true, even when I switch off all the per-pressure options via the Brush tool.
Can anyone hint how to control or at-least disable the pen-pressure feature while in the Eraser tool?
    Thank you.

One way would be to use the Basic Brushes which are not set for any pressure functions by default.
Or if you need a special brush you could save the brush without any pressure settings with the brush tool selected
and those settings should carry over for the eraser tool.
Also, you can set the mode to clear with the brush tool and that will act like the eraser tool set on the brush mode.

  • I have Wacom Intuos 4, and for some reason pen pressure isn't working with PSE 10

I can still use wacom tablet pen to draw in Photoshop Elements 10, but I am frustrated because I could not get lines thinner and thicker with more pressure I apply with the pen like I could with Photoshop Elements 7 - and I had already checked "size"  in the tablet setting in PSE 10.  I also made sure I set up my Wacom Tablet Properties to apply to Photoshop Elements 10, and I still can't vary the lines like I want.   Any suggestions?  (also, could it be because I unwittingly bought and installed  34 bits PSE 10 in my 64-bit computer with Window 7  - is that what is preventing PSE 10 from making lines thin and thick with pen pressure?)
    Thanks for your help.

photodrawken, I went to Wacom website and looked up the latest driver.  I see Driver 4.60 for Windows -- will that work on my 64 Windows 7?   (The information didn't mention which Windows, but did warned not to install it on Window Vista 64.)

  • Wacom Tablet Pen Pressure stops working in Photoshop after using Lightroom Local Adjustment Brush

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a problem with my Intuos Pro Medium (driver 6.3.9w3 on Windows 8.1)
I am using Lighroom 5.6 and Photoshop CC 2014.
I an get the pen pressure to work in Photoshop without any problem. However, if I go into Lightroom and use the Local Adjustment Brush and then transfer the photo into Photoshop (Right Click Edit In => Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2014 CC) then the pen pressure stops working in Photoshop.
Really frustrating... The only workaround is to close both Photoshop and Lightroom, then reopen Photoshop, then usually the Pen pressure feature starts working again.
Has anyone experienced this before or has any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Guillaume

Your tablet driver isn't reporting pressure correctly.
The knockoff tablet drivers usually need to be revised for each new version of Photoshop (and we have no idea why).
Contact your tablet maker to see if they have updated drivers to fix their bugs.

  • How do I get pen pressure sensitivity in Photoshop CS5?

    Hi
There is no sensitivity to pressure in my Photoshop CS5. I have installed the driver for my tablet (Intuos 4), but it still doesn't work. I have also clicked the icons for both pressure and opacity in the bar at the top, but they made no difference.
I see a triangle with an exclamation point in the brushes menu by the control options. It says "Control by pen pressure requires the use of a pressure sensitive tablet," so I take this to mean that my tablet isn't supporting sensitivity.
The tablet works just fine, but the sensitivity won't. What should I do?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I figured it out! Pen Pressure is working just fine now. Here are the steps I used to fix my problem. Thanks for your help, Noel!
    Windows 7/Vista Pro Driver
-Disconnect the tablet from the computer
-Open your start menu and then the Control Panel
    -Open programs and features
-Uninstall any listing here for Tablet or Wacom Tablet and then restart the computer
-After restarting, download and install only the latest driver (6.16) from wacom website
-Once the installation is complete, and the system is stable, connect the tablet.

  • Wacom pen pressure sensitivity with PS elements 9

I was just using the free trial with CS6 and was able to get  it to ignore the pen pressure sensitivity, so that it was the same size no matter how hard i pressed down. In elements I'm having a hard time in getting it to ignore the pressure sensitivity. I have the pen settings in the wacom software on the softer side so you dont have to press down hard to get the full size of the brush in photoshop, but when I go to test it out in PS it doesnt ignore the pressure.
Im using it on windows 7.
    Any ideas?

With the Brush Tool selected in pse 9 did you look at the settings for the graphics tablet?
It's a small arrow as in the screenshot below to reveal the popup menu to set the pressure options.
Since you posted in the full photoshop forum you might post over in the photoshop elements forum if the above doesn't work:

  • Photoshop Pen Pressure Issues

I'm not actually sure that this is the correct place to post this. I don't have a question per se, as I've fixed the problem, but I would like to address an issue with Photoshop and my pen tablet and hopefully help others who might have the same problems. I recently built a new computer and, upon installing my Wacom Bamboo and Photoshop, found myself unable to use the pen pressure settings in Photoshop, which had previously worked just fine on my old machine. I tried everything I could find on the web to fix the problem: reinstalling the tablet drivers, installing old driver versions, turning on and off various settings, nothing worked, when finally I stumbled across a post by someone who offhandedly mentioned that they started Photoshop with their pen, instead of their mouse, and that their pressure settings worked just fine. I was kinda skeptical that such a trivial-seeming thing could be the fix, but I tried it, and lo and behold, it worked! If anyone here knows why I'd be interested in knowing, just for the sake of curiosity, but I hope this simple fix can save some time and frustration for other users.

Photoshop CC 2014 changes stylus use to use Microsoft system API's, with these API's you need to have Windows Ink enabled. These API's give better stroke results and improve the out of the box experience for users using Windows tablet/convertible devices. If you want to go back to the old WinTab implementation of previous versions do the following:
Create a file that contains instructions to revert to the WinTab functionality.
Create a text file in a text editor such as Notepad.
    Type in the following lines:
    # Use WinTab
    UseSystemStylus 0
Save the file as a plain text file named PSUserConfig.txt, and save the file into the Photoshop settings folder: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Settings\.
To turn off the gestalt's functionality, delete the PSUSerConfig.txt file. Or, move it to a different folder if it doesn't contain any other commands, or change the lines so they read:
    # Use Win8 native tablet support
    UseSystemStylus 1

  • Pen Pressure not working in Photoshop CS5.1

    Hello,
I've looked at a lot of questions and answers concerning pen pressure in this forum, and I've tried a lot of things to fix this problem. I have a Genius MousePen 6x8 and use Photoshop CS5.1. It's been a while since I used my tablet, but it used to work before. I rebooted my computer a while ago, so I installed the new driver from the Genius website. The tablet is working fine, even the pen pressure, but for some reason it just won't work in Photoshop. I've tried to fix it by resetting the Photoshop settings by using the Ctrl+Shift+Alt, I've reset the brush tool, I've played around with the brush options and nothing has worked.
Here is the image of the pen pressure working:
And here is the image of the settings for the brush and the pen pressure not working:

  • How do I change the pen pressure in Adobe Elements 11?

I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 in the hopes that I could finally start to draw and color lineart, but I don't know if it's an old and/or atypical version or what, cause I've tried like four or five different tutorials on how to change the pen pressure so that the thickness of the line you draw depends on how hard you push the pen. In all of these tutorials however, I only get as far as to the third or fourth step before they tell me to click an option I don't have. Now I hope that I just haven't found the right tutorial yet or pen pressure can't be modated in Elements 11??

In the pse 11 editor in Expert mode with the Brush Tool selected, click on Tool Options
and then click on Tablet Settings and select, for example, Size
