PSE 7 - Pictures in wrong folders

I just opened up my organizer in PSE 7.  While most of my pictures are in the correct folder for their date (using folder location view), the last 10-12 folders are completely screwed up.  Pictures dated 2009_05_16 (for example) are spread across folders for the 05_16,05_17 and 06_04 etc.  I have not moved the pictures via any other application.  Further, when viewing through Windows and several other photo browsers I have, all the pictures are in their properly dated folders.  This has happened 2-3 times.  Sometimes it goes away on its own.
Any ideas?  These kind of things, compounded by slow application loading, occassionally freezing and application shutdown in the middle of back-up jobs cause me to start avoiding using PSE7 at all.  Very frustrating

Thanks for the reply and the link.  I tried switching back and forth between thumbnail and folder location view a couple of times, but it did not resolve the problem.  Neither did quitting and relaunching the application.  I did check properties of a few pictures which showed them still permanently located in their correctly dated folders.  So, it is the horizonal "folder location" notation above each group of picture which is incorrect for about 10 of my folders.  Why it started more than half way through my catalog is beyond me.

  • PSE 12 organiser uses wrong folders

PSE 12 organiser doesn't remember photos after import from whatever source (for example, pics are imported from e:\test\pics, but the organiser shows them as imported from f:\test\pics), and this is trying to locate pictures (link again) with no success.
This even happens when everything is freshly installed, and pics are shown correctly - after saving the catalogue pictures cannot be found.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

One typical situation when you may see the location in the catalog pointing to another drive letter (Windows) is if you are using different external drives or USB thumb drives. This is the reason why it is highly recommended to always assign the same letter drive to any external drive; it's best to start with letters like M, N, P, Q... rather than E, F, G, H... If you have assigned the letter E, then you have another drive plugged in, the last one will be assigned E, and if you plug-in the previous drive, Windows will recognize it as F.
The organizer saves the drive identification with both the drive letter and the drive serial number, but that does not always help to correctly identify the drive. For instance, if you have a cloned external drive, there are situations where two drives have the same serial number.

  • I am moving all my iphoto pictures to seperate folders outside of iphoto.  I have found iphoto slighlty cumbersome.  After I move all pictures from iphoto to a separate file how can I delete all the iphoto photos without deleting the ones in the file?

I am moving all of my iphoto pictures into seperate folders becuase iphoto is great, but a bit cumbersome when I need to transfer all the pictures to a external drive.
    1) After I move all pictures, how can I delete the iphoto pictures without destroying the ones I have in files
    2) how can I ensure that I have sucessfully captures all the iphoto files so when I delelte from iphoto I have not forgotten any
    3) is there a way to determine what duplicate pictures I have?
    Thanks!

If you Control click on the iPhoto Library, you'll see a list of folders - one named "Masters". Inside of this folder are all of your original, high-res photos. You can copy them to other folders if you like.
You can't delete iPhoto pics without deleting the ones in the iPhoto Library.
You can copy all of your Masters pics out of the Library, ensuring that you won't forget any.
I don't know of anyway to determine if there are duplicate photos - most (if not all) have a unique name assigned.
    Good luck,

  • View coppies of pictures in multiple folders

I have alot of different folders for pictures on my PC for different purposes and some of the folders contain the same pictures as other folders.
For example... I have a folder named "Job Related" and another named "To Print". At times I will copy some of the picture from the "Job Related" folder to the To "Print" folder (not move the file but copy it). So now I have the same picture in 2 different folders and that is what I want.
The problem is that Elements will only show the picturs in the original folder, it will not show coppies - all other organizers show all the pictures that are in each folder.      How can I make Elements show all the coppies of pictures in all the different folders?? All it should take is an option dialog box to allow such a request.
I have Elements 7 and just downloaded  the trial version of 8 and both do not allow me to do what I want. I would like to buy version 8 and all upcoming versions but if I can not set it up to see copies of pictures in various folders then Elements is a progrma that is to limited for my needs which is a shame because I think it is a great organizer.   Help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance, Jim.

A couple of quick questions about how you use Elements
When you import new pictures, do you always assign a tag to them?  If not how do you then view them?
Do you import all pictures in to one large folder?
I like using tags and think it as a great way to organize pictures but I feel like the program would be more powerful by allowing the viewing of all pictures by tag or by folder, wouldnt it?

  • Syncing photos from pc to iphone - end up in wrong folders

Every single time i try syncing photos from my computer to my iphone 4s they either end up being multiple and/or theyre in the wrong folders.
And yes, Ive tried deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" thing and re-sync, but it doesnt help at all. They remain in the wrong folders. I seriously dont know what to do, Ive had this problem for too long, and its starting to bother me even more when I get more and more photos.

nowhere do you mention what operating system you are using

  • Trying to import pics from iphoto to imovie- can't import the PSE modified pictures.  I see them in iphoto.

Trying to import pics from iphoto to imovie- can't import the PSE modified pictures.  I see them in iphoto however they don't appear in the thumbnails in imovie.

Drag the PSE modified pictures from iPhoto to the Desktop. Open them in Preview then save as jpegs (File > Export - then choose Format JPEG). They may already be .jpg files, but are not readable by iMovie. Exporting them from Preview may fix this. Import the saved files to iPhoto - they should now work in iMovie.

  • PSE 7 Move all files & folders to another location

I have 3000 pictures in the following folder structure in Windows 7: C:\Users\User Name\Documents\My Pictures
Under that structure there are 9 folders i.e., Family, Military Service, Friends etc. that contain the actual photos:
I want to move the entire thing catalog and all to C:\My Photos
without having to do a bunch of re-working.  There must be a way to do it but I can't figure it out.
So that the 9 folders and all the sub-folders are directly under the C:\My Photos folder
I cannot figure out how to do it.  The move command is constantly grayed out on my File Menu so I cannot access it.
    Thanks for any help

    Hi Paige
Well it does not seem to be working out for me.
Here is what I am trying to accomplish.
I just went to Windows 7.  I am using a dual boot system with two hard disk drives.  One has XP Pro on it which I used with PSE for years with no problems,  The other drive has Windows 7 on it. When I boot from the XP drive the Windows 7 drive becomes drive D and of course when I boot from the Windows 7 drive the XP drive becomes drive D.
All of my PSE 7 photos on the XP drive are backed up to external drives using the PSE backup function.  I have PSE 7 installed on the Wlndows 7 drive and working.  The XP drive has the old file structure that I found to be laborious as I explained in my first post.  I wanted to import all of my pictures from one of the PSE backups onto the Windows 7 drive and use the new folder structure I described in my first post, C:\Family Photos.
I booted using the Windows 7 drive, loaded PSE 7 and selected the backup recovery function.  I restored from the PSE backup drive which was Drive G  that was created by the backup function in the XP version of PSE 7.   I restored to a temporary folder (C:\Hold Pictures) using the original structure (C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Pictures.  My intent was to get the old file structure on to the Windows 7 drive and then using PSE folder display as you described move the pictures folder to C:\Family Pictures.  It restored the files correctly to the \Users\User Name\My Pictures folders of course it went much deeper than that to get to the actual pictures.  I then tried to move the folder (Pictures) using PSE but nothing worked right.  PSE seemed to handle it correctly but when I looked at the properties of the pictures in the catalog they were all to Drive D (the XP drive) using the old structure and not on the C: drive which they should have been..
I finally gave up and will work on this again some other time.  I removed PSE7 from the Windows 7 computer in that it is probably a mess on the catalogs and I thought I had better start fresh.
I hope all the above makes sense.  Obviously I am doing something quite wrong in the procedure
    Thanks for your help

  • Iphoto is scrambling my picture folder. When I sync, it mixes up the pictures in the folders. approximately 1/3rd of my foilders are okay, with the correct pictures in them, but the rest are completely mixed up.

I synced and when I looked at my folders, the wrong pictures were in them. I checked in iPhoto, and the pictures were in the correct folders there. they get messed up when I sync on both my Ipad 2 and my Iphone 5.

Your post is  not clear as in iPhoto for the Mac folders do not contain photos - and the order of photos on an IOS device is not determined by iPhoto on the Mac - it is determined by the photos program on the IOS device - I suspct you nee to ask in an IOS for iPhone or iPad foum - although I'm not really clear on what your question is
And iphoto does not (and can not) make any change o any file or folder outside of the iPhoto library - it simply has no ability to do that so iphoto is not every doing anything to your pictures folder

  • Importing old pictures with wrong date stamp. After adjusting date they are landing in the correct folder of referenced masters.

I was thrilled to learn that with Aperture I could have one big library and using referenced masters, I can organize the pictures by date so I know where everything is and can backup to the cloud.  I started importing really old photos that were taken with god knows what camera and the date is wrong.  Since I had all these in date structured folders I could make a best guess on the date - not needing it to be exact, just so it shows up close enough in projects and the original lands in the right folder for future use & backup. I have come to learn that changing the metadata is only referring to how Aperture sees it.  In other words, images that were taken on 10/31/04 are still landing in the referenced masters folder on the date the camera said.  I now understand that the metadata date is not the date Aperture needs fixed.  Is the best way to fix this to delete the images from Aperture, find some tool that will adjust to the approximate real date, then reimport.  If so, can someone recommend a utility that does this? If I can fix this inside of Aperture, even better.  I saw on one of the discussions: "it's all about the Exif and IPTC and not about the file metatata."  Please feel free to learn me on that.  Cheers.

That answers some of it - the relocate files.  That will allow me to put the files in the right year/month folder.  I imported full folders into Aperture so need to edit the metadata date for multiple pictures at the same time.  I understand when you select multiple pictures and then ajust time, it adjusts in relation to the first picture.  In my case these things were taken by all sorts of crappy cameras & re-edited years later (2003 data).  So pictures taken on the same day have 2001, 2003 & 2007 dates. I really do just wnt to set all of them to the same (ballpark) date.
    So my goals are:
    1) have the pictures land in the right referenced folder - answered
    2) do a mass adjust time to the same date for a folder of images
    3) have the projects then land chronologically inside Aperture - not sure about this one yet
Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated.

  • How to import PSE tagged pictures from friends into organizer correctly?

    Hello,
my father and me have both PSE, I have version 11, he 10. When I get tagged pictures from him, the persons are normal tags after import to PSE Organizer 11 and not faces. How can I import those pictures, that I can filter later for the already included persons without repeated face detection by myself?
    Thank you
    Christian

    Hello Andaleeb,
sorry for my long delay, but I don't get so often new photos from Friends. Today I got the same problem by importing Tagged Fotos from PSE11 to an other PSE11 Catalog. Here is the reproduction:
    - Having two Catalogs: One e.g. For photos until 2009 and one for newer photos.
    - Finding some Scans in newer Catalog (>2009) with wrong date and correct the date to <2009.
    - Tag all photos in new Catalog with Persons (faces) e.g. "Christian from Laatzen"
    - Save meta data in the files (by File menu)
    - Copy Files via Drag and Drop to a folder where also other files of old catalog (<2009) are stored
    - delete files in new catalog (incl. checkbox detele also from harddisk) because the copy is in the other folder
    - open old catalog where also a person "Christian from Laatzen" is included
    - import there the fotos from the folder created above
    - Get a selection box if tags shall be imported (there the names are shown: e.g. "Christian from Laatzen")
    - Import -> Now are the persons are together with other imported tags in a Tag-category like "imported keywords" (german: "Importierte Stichwort-Tags").
Here I can filter for "Christian from Laatzen" correcty like for other tags like "Holiday". But the photos are not detected as people/faces - when I select People tab and then the stack of "Christian from Laatzen" (tagged before in old catalog <2009) the new imported photos are not shown...
Hope it helps to understand the problem. I wouldn't create a screenshot as there would be real names with first and last name of > 10 persons and I assume it would not be ok for them to find there nemed in a forum.
    Thank you very much!

  • PSE 11 - Photo dates wrong

I still have my catalog sorted by Newest First, but half my pictures are scrambled! The date is now wrong on thousands of pictures, and they are (consequently) out of sequence. HELP!

Can you elaborate your issue? It will be good if you can post a snapshot and then explain your issue for single image.

  • How do I prevent AE from saving .AEP files in the wrong folders?

I've been using AE heavily for about 6 months, and it has this really pesky basic Windows UI problem that makes life quite frustrating. I work on lots of projects that I maintain sequentially numbered in their respective folders. Typically in Windows when you choose "Save As" windows defaults to the folder the current file resides in.  For some reason After Effects defaults to the last folder I saved a file in, which often times is not the folder I am in. So I end up with project files from projectA stored in the projectB folder.  This leads to version control problems when members of the team can't find the most recent version of projectA and so they start working on the previous version of ProjectA and later on ask me where all my changes are.  I want to believe that AE has a checkbox in preferences somewhere that says "make save-as feature operate like every other windows program" - but I haven't found it yet.  Does anyone have any advice on this topic?

I think you are operating on wrong assumptions - a project is just a reference to other files plus some internal data, so it doesn't exactly make sense to maintain endless lists of absolute paths, given that you can import things back and forth in a million ways. What happens as soon as you import a project into another one? What, when you collect files? What happens when you re-import pre-rendered files? A "same origin" policy would be riddled with tons of issues to figure out the logic as to what the user actually wants to do and which path is the correct one.... I've never missed any such feature.

  • How can I move pictures to different folders while browsing in fast-preview (space)? Can I make any keyboard-shortcuts to move or tag a photo while looking at the pictures in this mode?

When I look at the thumbnails in finder, I press enter to look at the picture. And I scroll down to look at the other pictures. I want to move or delete the images when I look at them this way... Any suggestions? I would think that there was a program for this...?
    Thanx in advance!

    GraphicConverter can do that.
When you drop a folder full of image files onto GraphicConverter, it automatically opens them all in a catalog-style window. You can then select each in turn and use keyboard shorcuts to move the selected one to a target folder of your choice. I believe you can have up to 30 different target folders preset for this purpose.
GC also provides a host of other file manipulation features.

  • Moving Pictures and Music Folders

Having run out of space on my hard drive, I have installed a new 1Tb internal disk. I have moved my Aperture library and some other large folders from (user/library) to the new disk and have added the new folders to the Finder sidebar.
How can I now make sure that applications such as iPhoto and iDVD (especially iDVD) will find the folders on the new disk when I click on the media/pictures tabs when making DVDs?
    Regards,
    Cliff

    To move the iPhoto Library
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
iDVD will find the content of the iPhoto Library if you do it as described above.
    Regards
    TD
