PSE 7 randomly creates a caption.

This is really strange. When I use guided edit, and then save and close the file in editor, the edited file again appears in organizer as you would expect. Sometimes, but not always, it will give the name of my camera in the caption bar under the picture. It will simply say "Olympus Digital Camera". Yet this never happens when I edit pictures taken with my wife's Canon digital camera. I first noticed this when I shared pictures in photoshop.com, where the caption will show up superimposed on the picture in the slide show. Not a major problem, but I do have to check each edited picture to make sure it doesn't have that caption. Anyone ever have this happen before? Anything that can be done about it?

Some camera models write the camera model info in such a way that it gets picked up as a caption. (Canon doesn't, which is why you never see it for your canon camera). Here's the solution, from Organizer expert John Ellis:
Do Find > By Caption Or Note for the exact string. Select all of the results, right-click, and do Add Caption To Selected Items.Leave the caption field blank and check Replace Existing Captions.
Also, going forward, make sure the option Edit > Preferences > Files > Import EXIF Caption is not checked. That should stop PSE from importing those captions in the first place.

You have a few choices -- there are two commercial products that I have used and know about, to create sidecar closed captioning files that are usable in PPRO and follow industry standarads for CC: CPC (www.cpcweb.com) makes a authoring program called 'MacCaption' for MAC and 'Caption Maker' for WIN. Also, a German company (www.zeitanker.com) makes a program called 'Annotation Edit'.

Create closed caption within Premiere Pro

Question: I'm using Premiere Pro 6 on a intel Xeon mac osx 10.8.3. I need to do captions for my project. I followed the Tutorial on "Create closed caption within Premiere Pro". When it comes to going to the window tab and selecting Captions.
Problem: in my copy of Premiere Pro 6 there isn't this option for selecting the captions buttton. How can this be resolved ?

That tutorial is talking about Premiere Pro CC, which doesn't come out until June 17th. The current CS6 version cannot actually create Closed Captioned files. You need to do that in a third party program for import into PP.

I've just been reading tutorials on how to create static and live captions based on metadata in CS5.5. This is more complicated than what I want to do.
I just want to select an image, write a caption specifically for that image, and have it appear below the image. Is that possible?

Sure. Just add a text frame, type your caption, and, if you like, group with the image. Completely static.

Creating Image Captions: Best Practice?

I'm currently using RoboHelp to create an HTML-based internal user guide for a software product. This guide has many images and figures in it and each will need an accompanying caption. Each caption must appear centered directly beneath the accompanying image.
I need some guidance on two issues, please:
1. What is the best practice for inserting a caption along with an image? I currently cannot find any tool or which enables a RoboHelp user to insert an image into a document and designate a caption to be displayed with that image.
2. Each image will be uniquely numbered (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). It may be necessary, as the document is drafted and redrafted, to remove images from and insert other images into the document. How can the numbering of images be set up so that the removal or addition of an image will automatically reset the numbering of all affected images accordingly? I would very much like to avoid resetting dozens of image number-designations manually.

Hi there
As far as the captions go, I would normally include the caption as part of the image itself. If you feel you must keep the text separate, I'm guessing you will need to resort to tables. One column and two rows.
As for the numbering, that one will be pretty tough. Keep in mind that in the world of HTML, people don't typically consume content in a linear fashion as they once did when all we had was print.
Someone may pop in here with some solution I've been unaware of. But presently, I'm unaware of a way to force that type of numbering.

Creating a caption of a button on a toolbar

Dear all,
I was wondering if it is possible to create like a small caption on a button (which has an image icon) on a toolbar. Basically when the user places the mouse on the button, a small message appears explaining briefly what the button does.
Has anyone got any ideas as to how i can do this?

Finder not working properly, randomly creates a folder called "Name"

Hello,
Finder has all of a sudden started to cause some really odd and sporadic file/folder navigation issues. Whenever I try to access a directory, Finder creates a folder called Name, makes random folders within the directory disappear, or both. It's odd because as soon as I either log out or restart, the problem subsides, but then it comes back -- for no apparent reason. I've taken a look at all of the logs, repaired permissions, verified disks, and dumped the Finder .plist files, but still no remedy. FWIW, this all started happening after updating to 10.7.4.
Someone else posted a very similar thread on this matter, so I know I'm not losing my mind. Is anyone else has the same problem?

Logic is randomly creating fades..............

crazy annoying problem. I notice that when I start editing audio in logic, copying and pasting, dragging audio around in the arrange window, Logic starts to create fades, even when the regions are not touching. Also, Logic will play audio that is not in the arrange window. In other words, It will play an entire audio file even though that file has been cut or shortened in the arrange window. Needless to say, I have audio playing all over the place that shouldn't be there, and fades messing up levels of audio because of the random places Logic is placing these fades. Very strange. I can work around it by creating alot of audio tracks and just moving the copied files to separate tracks, but in some cases, the extra audio will still play. The only real workaround thus far has been to delete the file that's acting strange, and re-insert it directly from my audio window. Then Logic seems to deal with it properly.
Crazy. Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED.

that's interesting. Here's an example of what I'm doing. Let's say I sang 10 leads vocals of a chorus, and then I created one "comp" of the "best of" each take. Now I have one chorus, on one track with a bunch of regions, some overlapping, but some don't overlap. Now..... if I select that entire chorus, which will include ALL of the new regions I put together, in other words, the "comp", and click/hold/and drag to another location, shouldn't that "comp" look exactly the same no matter where I put it on the arrange page? And shouldn't it sound exactly the same way? I've been using Logic for many years, left for a while because I had just bought a dual opteron [that's for another post ;)] and have been using Cubase sx, Nuendo, and sonar for the past few years. I'm thinking that one thing that has never changed in any of these programs is that U can cut audio regions, or make them smaller, and U should hear what U see on the arrange page. I'm also thinking that when U select/click/hold whatever key that particular program uses for copying/and then drag, U should be able to move that particular part that U just selected, anwhere in your arrangement. this is real basic stuff here. I'm just thinking that this is a bug, but now that I think I explained it more clearly, I'm also thinking since I haven't been here in Logic for a few years, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I spoke to tech support at Apple, and they had no clue.

Every set instructions says we need to import a .scc or .mcc file, but where do we create the file? How do we create the file?

We're redesigning our guides and trying to create captions for our figures and tables that include the number of the chapter the figure is in (i.e. Figure 3.5). The trouble is that we're not using the book function; each of our guides is contained within a single document, because some of our chapters are so short that putting them each into their own document seemed unnecessary. I know that if each chapter was its own document, we could create a numbered list paragraph style with a number in the form of Figure ^H.^#. Is there any way to replicate that without real, separate-document chapters? Up to this point we've had a separate paragraph style for each chapter (Figure 1.^#, Figure 5.^#, etc.), but some of our guides have gotten longer than we expected and that's becoming more and more inconvenient. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We're using CS5.

Consider your whole guide document as a multi-level list, like an outline, with chapter, section, subsection, text, figure, and table paragraph styles. Number whichever levels are important, such as chapter and figure. Set the paragraph styles to continue numbering across stories, and to restart figures and tables after previous levels. The number format for the figure paragraph style should begin with the text "Figure " followed by a number placeholder for the chapter-level number, then ".", the placeholder for the figure paragraph style.
Search Google for terms like "multi-level numbered list tutorial InDesign" without quotes for good info.

PSE 11: Create online-album without music?

When creating a slide-show in PSE 11 I can choose a certain soundfile or deny to include music. But when I create an online-album I don't find the checkbox for music to un-check it. Thanks for any advices.

But finally I found out that different templates offer different settings. In in the dropdown-menu of categories I choose "classical" and the take the template with the three girls in the preview (third from left). Activating this template by a doublle click generates a preview of my album. When it is ready, guitarmusic starts at once. In the down left corner of the album I see a musical note. Clicking on it can switch the music on or off.
Moving the mouse on the main screen of the album shows a small line of symbols at the bottom with arrows left/right, a symbol for start and for settings (tool symbol) and one for the settings for the change of pictures.
After clicking on the symbol for settings there are options for automatically start or repeat and so on, but there is no option for deactivating music at all.
In the other templates there is absolute no music at all. But they are all too silly or foolish for my intention.

Visitors have to deactivate music by clicking on the musical note in the left corner, which is not very userfriendly.

Creating Closed Captions that do NOT dissappear and finding an alternative

Hi all!
Does anybody know how to allow closed captions to continue displaying after the audio has ended on a slide in BOTH captivate 3 &/or 4? The text in the captions dissapear after the audio has completed.
Also is there a way to modify/skin the caption box?
The reason I'm asking is because of the way our projects are designed. We want the user to stay on the same slide until the forward button on the playbar has been clicked. This is easily done with having a "Pause project" click box on each slide.
We used to have a text caption that's identical to the audio that stays on permanently on each slide but we want to move away from that.
I have also tried to use buttons in captivate 4 to show/hide a text caption (with the name"bodyText"). I created 2 buttons to do this.
The "Show Text" button has advanced actions to :-
a) rdcmndPause = 1;
b) Show the "bodyText" caption
c) Show the "Hide Text" button
d) Hide the "Show Text" button
e) rdcmndPause = 1;
The "Hide Text" button does:-
a) rdcmndPause = 1;
b) Hide the "bodyText" caption
c) Show the "Show Text" button
d) Hide the "Hide Text" button
e) rdcmndPause = 1;
That works BUT clicking on the "Show Text" button plays the slide and ignores the following:-
a) Multiple "Pause project" click box. These were placed before & after the button was paused on the timeline.
b) _root.container.cpSkinLoader_mc.rdcmndPause = 1; swf's I've inserted. These were placed before & after the button was paused on the timeline as well.
This is VERY annoying as the slide keeps playing and will eventually show the next slide. Which is NOT AT ALL what we want.
Another method I have tried is to wrap the captivate file into a flash "loader". All this flash file is to do a Load Movie with the captivate into a target movieClip called "container". With this "container", I've used an imported AS2 flash player 9 "hideText" swf that has a "Show/Hide text" button in it:-

Creating Custom Caption Set

I'm trying to create a custom caption set for Cap 5. I created the 5 seperate bmp files and saved them to the Gallery, all properly named and added the information to the font .ini file. When I open Captivate again the group is present for me to select except that the inside of the box is transparent and I want it to be white like in the .bmp I created in Photoshop. The background of the .bmp I created is all grey, the box is white with an orange outline. What am I missing? I'm not clear on the upper left hand corner pixel things I've been reading, I was assuming since the entire background is grey that I wouldn't have any transparency issues. Any help would be great. I'm having this same problem, but my caption is all white except for the top left pixel. It's FFFFF9, while the rest of the pixels are straight FFFFFF. Unfortunately, that makes it rather difficult to display it on this white page! So I expanded the canvas and filled the canvas with gray. The gray area is not part of the caption itself.
Here's a view of it at 6400%. I used the magic wand to select only the pure white pixels--you can see that the upper left is a different color.
When the caption displays in the dropdown, its thumbnail is also transparent.
The weird thing is, a co-worker is using the caption successfully in Cap 5. She sent me the .bmp and .fcm files, and I saved them into my Gallery>Captions directory. I've tried closing and restarting Captivate, with no success.
I appreciate any suggestions that anyone has!

PSE error created in client 033 not 000 so it was removed now errors

One of the Basis people created system PSE in client 033. However it should have been created in 000.
The person deleted it in 100 and then wnet ot create it in 033, but I keeps giving the error. I remove the entry from 200.
I then go to recreate it on 000 however I keep getting errors when I try to create PSE (local)

Hi,
your post is a little bit confusing. There are too many clients :-). But the system PSE is client independent. There is one system PSE per instance. So it does not matter where you create it. What errors do you get?
